This study examines the role of fraternity in the learning and behavior of 4th year criminology students at Taguig City University during the 2012-2013 academic year. It analyzes factors motivating students to join fraternities, perceived advantages of joining, and perceived disadvantages. The main findings were that students were moderately encouraged to join due to friends already in fraternities. The main perceived advantage was learning about unity and peace. The main perceived disadvantage was new applicants suffering from hazing rituals like paddling and burns.

Fraternity and Sorority Analysis at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The study analyzed 300 students who were members of either a multicultural or social fraternity/sorority. It found that about half had participated in at least one leadership training, most commonly a leadership lecture or workshop. It also found that sorority members participated in leadership certificate programs at higher rates than fraternity members. Additionally, students in fraternities/sororities scored higher on consciousness of self and citizenship outcomes of the Social Change Model of leadership compared to non-members, with small to moderate effect sizes.

learning than their predecessors. This poses a challenge to faculty who are charged with passing
knowledge to the next generation of teachers, scientists, managers and others whose field necessitates a
degree from a college or university. The authors examine this assertion by taking a closer look at how
faculty provide intellectual stimuli to their students, how technology helps or hinders learning, and the
complex relationship between faculty and students. Three broad themes are explored: helping students
understand the higher education experience, keeping students engaged in and out of class, and
continuously assessing for improvement in students’ relationships with those charged with educating them.
Specific recommendations, grounded in research, are made for each area explored. The authors conclude
that making changes in how faculty approach the experiences students have, will significantly improve the
quality of those experiences.
