 A point of view shot is used throughout the video.
Using only one shot throughout the video reveals to the
audience what happens from somebody's point of view.
The person behind the camera isn't revealed to the
audience until the last couple of seconds which creates
a sense of enigma throughout. The reveal of the person
behind the camera is shocking to the audience as its
revealed that they are female- this is a twist in the
narrative as the character follows stereotypical traits of
a male rather than a female.

3. What do you notice about the use of
sound?
 The music within 'Smack My Bitch Up' has a very fast tempo and it has a
very upbeat backing track. The fast paced non-diegetic sound could be
emphasising how the character behind the camera is under the influence
of drugs and alcohol so everything is a blur to her and she isn't in
complete control of her actions throughout the video. Moreover, there
are no lyrics within the video except the repetition of a distorted voice
saying 'Smack my bitch up'- the use of minimal lyrics within the video
reinforces the wild night that the character behind the camera is
experiencing as the music is bizarre and doesn't particularly follow a
pattern.

4. What happens in the video?
 Within the video the audience see a night out from a
unknown character's perspective. We firstly see them
take drugs leading them to get high and it can be
presumed that they are also drunk from the fast pace
and uncertainty of the video. However, there is a twist in
the narrative right at the very end where the unknown
character is revealed to be a female. The reveal of the
character is unexpected by the audience and if they
weren't paying attention to the video properly they
would miss the message. The video is trying to inject a
message into the audiences brain (hypodermic needle
theory) to say that men aren't the only sex who are
dominant and the only ones who can be wild and
ruthless.

5. How does the song and the image work
together?
 The song and the image of the music video work
together as shown to the audience that the female
whose point of view the video is shot in takes drugs at
the beginning of the video. The influence of drugs on
her behaviour within the video is explicit to the
audience as the camera lenses is blurred in places-
representing the loss and blurred vision of the
character. Also, there is a large use of vibrant colours
and quick takes within the video all emphasising that
she is probably both high and drunk. Moreover, the
non-diegetic music that plays over the visuals matches
the fast and upbeat tempo which reinforces how the
character is not acting normal and like herself.

6. Conclusion
 From analysing the 'Smack My Bitch Up' video I have learnt that there it is
direct links between the narrative and the visuals on the screen. These
links are explicitly shown to the audience through the use of vibrant
colours, fast takes, and a fast tempo of music throughout- the video is
overall very crazy and 'in your face' which may be because the female
whose point of view we see has taken drugs and is probably drunk.
Furthermore, I have also found that it is very effective to have a sense of
enigma throughout the video followed by a shocking twist right at the
end of the video which makes a point and gets the message out to the
audience strongly.
