• Words have power because they build languages!

3. Where do our words come
from?
• The English language borrows some words
from other languages. For example the word
kindergarten is a German word that means
“children’s garden.” What words do we use in
English that are taken from your language?

4. Parts of words: Prefixes
• Most Common Prefixes (appear before the root) Think fast!
• anti- against (antifreeze) 1. A word that describes someone who is
• de- opposite (defrost)
• dis-* not, opposite of (disagree)

• Words have power because through
words, we let others know how we feel. Make
an appropriate word choice.. I am happy does
not correctly describe how you would feel if
you won a million dollars. You would feel
elated, marvelous, amazing, joyful!
