Community Vitality At University Medical Clinic
COMMUNITY VITALITY
During the windshield assessment of Fabens, TX, not many citizens were seen walking outside.
There were a minute amount of people seen outside a gas station, filling–up their cars within the
community. Additional citizens were mostly seen at University Medical Outpatient Clinic.
Consequently, there were neither tourists nor apparent visitors to this town except for us solitary
Texas Tech students. Perhaps, the only noticeable, prospective visitors may have been those
individuals seen near an Interstate 10 gas station, situated on the edge of this township. Most
citizens that were look to be between the ages of 35–65 years old, with the exception of a hand–full
of children. That was seen at the health clinic; ranging in between the ages of 7–12 years old.
Hispanics were the only visible ethnicity detected during the conduction of this assessment.
The general appearances of those constituents were healthy, clean, and decently dressed. None of
the citizens appear to be malnourished and those who exemplify obese attributes were no more than
20 pounds overweight. No citizens with disabilities or mental disorders were seen. None of the
citizens that were observed seemed to under the influence of alcohol or drugs. During the
assessment, there were no pregnant women or women with strollers seen.

The Empty Bowls Make-A-Thon
Bowl Making In November, I attended the Empty Bowls Make–a–Thon where I, along with others
from the college, made a bowl from clay. The finished bowls will be sold at a benefit dinner where
diners will pay for a meal and keep the bowl. All of the proceeds from the dinner will benefit the
Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Empty bowls is an international fundraiser to help fight
hunger. Artists make bowls to donate to community organizations and the bowls are sold to raise
money. Not only did I have a new experience while creating my bowl, I was also able to help
someone in need. Shapiro believes a liberal education is beneficial for an individual and for a
community. Social and cultural experiences ought to give meaning to both individual and
community lives. By participating in the Empty Bowls Make–a–Thon, I was able to improve both
myself and my community. Liberal education encourages improving and broadening one's
experiences, which I was able to do within Westminster College. In a way, the bowl making also

People of the Book is full of art when referring to the Haggadah. The intricate drawings, the silver
clasps, and the calligraphy are all art that went into the development of the Haggadah. While the
medium of art I worked with and the mediums of art from the Haggadah vary, they both offer

Throughout the course of my life I have been exposed to many homeless people, however I have
never made an effort to communicate with any of these people. Thinking about how this can be a
common enquiry makes me disappointed in myself, since I have never really tried to understand
what situation they might be going through. Often many people, including myself, walk past
homeless people and continue with their day, acknowledging them as much as we would a park
bench or a tree. They are, regrettably, often treated as simply part of the wider background around

On the night of April 7, 1997, my seven–year–old body flew from the backseat of a Nissan Sentra
and crashed through the front passenger window onto the roadway of Old Town, Staten Island. I
woke up on a hospital stretcher in pain and perplexed. My eyes were filled with shattered glass. I
had no mobility in either of my arms; my right arm was wrapped in gauze and plaster; and my left
arm had an IV in it. Two days later I was informed of the full extent of my injuries. I shouted at my

I am an intern at the Domestic Violence Legal Clinic, located on the first floor of the Domestic
Violence Courthouse of Chicago at 555 W Harrison St. The clinic offers free civil legal assistance to
low–income victims of domestic violence. I have been interning at the clinic since August 28, 2017
for 15–20 hours a week. I originally intended to intern on Mondays and Fridays from 8:30AM–4:30
PM, but due to holidays and instances in which the clinic was closed on Fridays, I now also intern
on Wednesdays from 8:30 AM–12:30 PM. A typical day for me at the clinic begins at 8:30 AM,
when the buildings opens. The actual court opens for first returns of service 9:00 AM. I usually wait

Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit organization which provides affordable reproductive care, currently
receives government funding. Those in need of affordable health care can go to PPFA for STI
treatment, pap smears, and prevention of unintended pregnancies. The problem arises in PPFA's
prevention of unintended pregnancies, particularly abortion. But abortion is not the only issue the
public finds in the organization. The public has recently questioned PPFA's integrity and motives as
their controversial actions are exposed. Government–funded health care should be easily accessible

I am currently doing my field placement at the Puerto Rican Family Institute clinic in Brooklyn, NY.
The mission statement for the organization is, "to enhance the functioning and self–sufficiency of
diverse marginalized communities and prevent family disintegration." I am currently doing
individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy at the outpatient clinic. The clinic is in a lower

Peace Memorial Hospital is a 600–bed, independent, not–for–profit, general hospital located on the
southern periphery of a major western city. It is one of six general hospitals in the city and twenty in

Working with LSLAP has allowed me to cultivate professional relationships, to research complex
issues, draft letters, interpret complicated legislation and communicate effectively in both oral and
written form. whose role was to provide practical legal advice to low–income clients. The clinic that
I volunteer at is the only one in the program that can provide such a service in Mandarin as well as
Cantonese in addition to English. Because there were often more clients making appointments than
clinicians available, I was often required to take several files during my clinic hours that span across
a wide variety of legal issues and work on them concurrently. Doing so has not only taught me the

The Rican Family Institute Clinic
The Puerto Rican Family Institute clinic in Brooklyn is currently undergoing a new organizational
structure due to a high turnover of recent employees. The previous director for the clinic had been in
the same position for 25 years, and once she left, the structure started to decline. The new director,
James Chavez, has been overseeing the clinic for a year now, and the clinic has been evolving ever
since. Due to such a drastic change in roles, the clinic has been using a lateral organizational
structure to help the director and keep the flow going. Since the clinic in Brooklyn is smaller, there
is a lot of cohesiveness that happens within various departments. The director always has the final
say, but many times, the staff will work together to help one another. I have received a lot of
guidance due to the lateral structure, and I am thankful for that. The clinic has many full–time staff
clinicians and the majority have a background in social work. Since the director comes from a social
work background also, there is a strong social work presence. The social worker's role is to provide
one–on–one psychotherapy, give a pre–diagnostic impression, and complete treatment plans. They
also assess for strengths, goals, and triggers to provide clients with a strong therapeutic experience.
Services are being approached and delivered thoroughly because the clinic recently went through
various audits in the past few years. There is a specific way that they like to have things
