The Importance of Tree's
and Plants
By: Daniel walters
Part 1
trees help us breathe and provide a home for quite a
few kinds of animals and insects. They are the
largest and longest living organisms on earth. To
grow tall the tree has become a miracle of
engineering and a complex chemical factory. It is
able to take water and salts out of the earth and lift
them up to the leaves, sometimes over 400 ft above.
By photosynthesis the leaves combine the water and
salts with carbon dioxide from the air to produce the
nutrients which feed the tree. In this process, as well
as wood, trees create many chemicals, seeds and
fruit of great utility to man. Also, trees provide
refreshing shade.
Part 1
Trees are the lungs of the environment. They take
much of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and
release oxygen via photosynthesis. They also
store carbon in their roots, trunk, branches and
leaves. Carbon makes up 50% of the weight of the
wood in a tree. Therefore, the greenhouse gas
load is reduced and effects of global warning are
also brought down. Further dead trees that get
buried in soil eventually provide fossil fuels like
coal, gasoline products, etc.
Part 1
Among all, trees have an indisputable role in
bringing rain to earth. they provide a cover over the
top surface of earth preventing excessive heating
up by solar rays. Trees provide the human species
with a constant supply of oxygen. This
oxygen, which humans in turn use for survival, is
produced through trees as they intake various
amounts of carbon dioxide, which humans exhale.
Part 2
trees convert carbon dioxide into oxygen through a
process called photosynthesis. The light is
sunlight, shining on the tree, and the pieces being
put together are carbon dioxide and water. When a
tree has these three things it uses the energy from
the sunlight to combine the carbon from the carbon
dioxide with the water to make a carbohydrate, or
more simply, a sugar. The sugar is food for the
tree, just as people eat sugar and carbohydrates.
When the tree makes the carbohydrate, there is
extra oxygen from the water, which luckily for us
gets released into the air, giving us the oxygen we
breathe.
Part 2
Each adult tree is made up of trillions of cells. The
cells in the leaves of a tree are where
photosynthesis occurs, in special parts of the cell
called chloroplasts. Each cell in a tree can contain
up to 100 chloroplasts. Inside of a
chloroplast, there are pigments that absorb light.
The most common pigment, chlorophyll, is
green, which is why most plants look green. The
tree leaves get water from the ground by drinking
through the roots, trunk, and stems of the tree.
Part 2
The leaves also have tiny pores in them that they
can use to breathe in carbon dioxide the gas
humans and animals breathe out from the air.
Then, when light hits the chlorophyll, the
chloroplast uses the light's energy to cause
photosynthesis. The tree keeps the carbohydrate
as food, and breathes out the oxygen through the
pores on its leaves. With out tree’s in the world we
would have every day things
Part 3
Trees help our soil remain healthy by reducing soil
erosion and by creating a soil climate suitable for
microorganism to grow. There are over 23,000
different kinds of trees in the world. A healthy tree
can increase your property value by as much as 27
percent while trees with dead branches, hollow
cavities and other problems can decrease your
property value. Evergreen trees are green year
round because they do not lose all of their leaves
in one season. Most will however lose some of
their oldest leaves just before they produce new
leaves in the spring. Some will lose part of their
leaves in the fall.
Part 3
A tree can absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon
dioxide per year and can sequester 1 ton of carbon
dioxide by the time it reaches 40 years old. Tree
leaves are composed of many colored pigments --
green chlorophyll hides them during the spring and
summer growing seasons. Shorter days and cool
temperatures in the fall cause the chlorophyll to
break down and the other pigments to be see.
Every state has an official State Tree. We do not
have a national tree, however, there is a campaign
to have the oak adopted as our National Tree.
Arbor Day, a day site aside to plant and recognize
the importance of trees, is not a national holiday. If
fact the day observed varies from state to state.
Part 3
Tree wood is a highly organized arrangement of
living, dying, and dead cells. The beginning and
growth of tall woody trees in forests may have
played a key role in the extinction of the dinosaurs.
Hundreds of food products) and food additives
come from trees. One large tree can lift up to 100
gallons of water out of the ground and discharge it
into the air in a day. One large tree can provide a
day's supply of oxygen for up to four people. Each
year, one person uses wood and paper products
equivalent to a 100 foot tree 18 inches in diameter.
Over 5,000 products are made from trees.
Part 3
Trees are included in most religions. Some hold
certain trees sacred; other use trees to help teach
beliefs. The story goes that Buddha received his
enlighten under the wisdom tree. Each year over
600,000 people travel to Macon, Georgia to see
240,000 cherry trees in bloom. The estimated
revenue is over $6.5 million dollars per year.
Part 3
Trees trap more of the sun's energy than any other
group of organisms on earth they are in essence
big batteries the largest on earth. Only 0.1% of the
sun's energy is trapped by organisms trees
account for 50% of all energy trapped by organism.
Almost 98% of a tree is made up of six elements:
carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus
and sulfur. Tree growth occurs in specialized
tissues referred to as meristems. This tissue is
found at the tips of leaves and shoots. Growth in
diameter occurs at the vascular cambium inside
the stem.
Part 4
Part 5
Yes, trees do increase the property value and yes
they do make the place look nice and attract people
and in all terms make more money for you. The
downfall of all of this is if a storm comes through and
trees fall on your property. Trees each year cause
more than 500 million dollars in damage to property
and business. So when you want to attract people or
add more property value you have to make sure that
is for your best interest. The pun of the whole thing
is that without trees we would die, but trees kill a lot
of people every year and do millions of dollars in
damage.
Quiz!!!
How tall can tree’s grow to?
How much weight dose carbon make up in a
tree?(it’s a percent answer)
How many chloroplast are in a single cell in a tree?
How many types of tree are there?
How many gallons can a single beer typically lift?
About how much can a well grown and treated tree
increase your property.
Thank you for coming to my
power point!!!!

The importance of tee's and plants

  • 1. The Importance of Tree's and Plants By: Daniel walters
  • 2. Part 1 trees help us breathe and provide a home for quite a few kinds of animals and insects. They are the largest and longest living organisms on earth. To grow tall the tree has become a miracle of engineering and a complex chemical factory. It is able to take water and salts out of the earth and lift them up to the leaves, sometimes over 400 ft above. By photosynthesis the leaves combine the water and salts with carbon dioxide from the air to produce the nutrients which feed the tree. In this process, as well as wood, trees create many chemicals, seeds and fruit of great utility to man. Also, trees provide refreshing shade.
  • 3. Part 1 Trees are the lungs of the environment. They take much of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen via photosynthesis. They also store carbon in their roots, trunk, branches and leaves. Carbon makes up 50% of the weight of the wood in a tree. Therefore, the greenhouse gas load is reduced and effects of global warning are also brought down. Further dead trees that get buried in soil eventually provide fossil fuels like coal, gasoline products, etc.
  • 4. Part 1 Among all, trees have an indisputable role in bringing rain to earth. they provide a cover over the top surface of earth preventing excessive heating up by solar rays. Trees provide the human species with a constant supply of oxygen. This oxygen, which humans in turn use for survival, is produced through trees as they intake various amounts of carbon dioxide, which humans exhale.
  • 5. Part 2 trees convert carbon dioxide into oxygen through a process called photosynthesis. The light is sunlight, shining on the tree, and the pieces being put together are carbon dioxide and water. When a tree has these three things it uses the energy from the sunlight to combine the carbon from the carbon dioxide with the water to make a carbohydrate, or more simply, a sugar. The sugar is food for the tree, just as people eat sugar and carbohydrates. When the tree makes the carbohydrate, there is extra oxygen from the water, which luckily for us gets released into the air, giving us the oxygen we breathe.
  • 6. Part 2 Each adult tree is made up of trillions of cells. The cells in the leaves of a tree are where photosynthesis occurs, in special parts of the cell called chloroplasts. Each cell in a tree can contain up to 100 chloroplasts. Inside of a chloroplast, there are pigments that absorb light. The most common pigment, chlorophyll, is green, which is why most plants look green. The tree leaves get water from the ground by drinking through the roots, trunk, and stems of the tree.
  • 7. Part 2 The leaves also have tiny pores in them that they can use to breathe in carbon dioxide the gas humans and animals breathe out from the air. Then, when light hits the chlorophyll, the chloroplast uses the light's energy to cause photosynthesis. The tree keeps the carbohydrate as food, and breathes out the oxygen through the pores on its leaves. With out tree’s in the world we would have every day things
  • 8. Part 3 Trees help our soil remain healthy by reducing soil erosion and by creating a soil climate suitable for microorganism to grow. There are over 23,000 different kinds of trees in the world. A healthy tree can increase your property value by as much as 27 percent while trees with dead branches, hollow cavities and other problems can decrease your property value. Evergreen trees are green year round because they do not lose all of their leaves in one season. Most will however lose some of their oldest leaves just before they produce new leaves in the spring. Some will lose part of their leaves in the fall.
  • 9. Part 3 A tree can absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year and can sequester 1 ton of carbon dioxide by the time it reaches 40 years old. Tree leaves are composed of many colored pigments -- green chlorophyll hides them during the spring and summer growing seasons. Shorter days and cool temperatures in the fall cause the chlorophyll to break down and the other pigments to be see. Every state has an official State Tree. We do not have a national tree, however, there is a campaign to have the oak adopted as our National Tree. Arbor Day, a day site aside to plant and recognize the importance of trees, is not a national holiday. If fact the day observed varies from state to state.
  • 10. Part 3 Tree wood is a highly organized arrangement of living, dying, and dead cells. The beginning and growth of tall woody trees in forests may have played a key role in the extinction of the dinosaurs. Hundreds of food products) and food additives come from trees. One large tree can lift up to 100 gallons of water out of the ground and discharge it into the air in a day. One large tree can provide a day's supply of oxygen for up to four people. Each year, one person uses wood and paper products equivalent to a 100 foot tree 18 inches in diameter. Over 5,000 products are made from trees.
  • 11. Part 3 Trees are included in most religions. Some hold certain trees sacred; other use trees to help teach beliefs. The story goes that Buddha received his enlighten under the wisdom tree. Each year over 600,000 people travel to Macon, Georgia to see 240,000 cherry trees in bloom. The estimated revenue is over $6.5 million dollars per year.
  • 12. Part 3 Trees trap more of the sun's energy than any other group of organisms on earth they are in essence big batteries the largest on earth. Only 0.1% of the sun's energy is trapped by organisms trees account for 50% of all energy trapped by organism. Almost 98% of a tree is made up of six elements: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur. Tree growth occurs in specialized tissues referred to as meristems. This tissue is found at the tips of leaves and shoots. Growth in diameter occurs at the vascular cambium inside the stem.
  • 14. Part 5 Yes, trees do increase the property value and yes they do make the place look nice and attract people and in all terms make more money for you. The downfall of all of this is if a storm comes through and trees fall on your property. Trees each year cause more than 500 million dollars in damage to property and business. So when you want to attract people or add more property value you have to make sure that is for your best interest. The pun of the whole thing is that without trees we would die, but trees kill a lot of people every year and do millions of dollars in damage.
  • 15. Quiz!!! How tall can tree’s grow to? How much weight dose carbon make up in a tree?(it’s a percent answer) How many chloroplast are in a single cell in a tree? How many types of tree are there? How many gallons can a single beer typically lift? About how much can a well grown and treated tree increase your property.
