Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help alleviate symptoms of mental illness and boost overall mental well-being.
The objective of this talk was to present a result on conic sections that has been recently obtained by Prof. G. Heimbeck. The target audience included students, mathematics teachers, subject specialists at the Ministry of Education, physics teachers, research physicists, portfolio managers, mathematics lecturers and research mathematicians. Conic sections (circle, ellipse, parabola and hyperbola) find applications in physics as the trajectories of the motions of planetary bodies, in optics and portfolio theory. In the talk, Prof. G. Heimbeck provided an explanation as to when a conic section has interior points. From a pure mathematics point of view, the talk presented a contribution to the projective theory of conic sections. The talk was kept as understandable as possible and the presenter refreshed the audience’s memory on the necessary concepts.

In the film Finding Forrester, director Gus Van Sant develops the idea that individuals may hide their true identities from others in order to be accepted or to avoid the outside world. However, the characters Jamal Wallace and William Forrester are only able to live fulfilling lives after they overcome obstacles that had caused them to hide aspects of their identities and fully embrace who they truly are. The director uses settings, motifs, and clothing to depict how the characters' identities are initially restricted but later transformed as they learn to accept themselves.

Jan Walmsley: Inclusive research in intellectual disabilityJane65
Presentation by Jan Walmsley at first ESRC funded seminar on participatory research hosted by Jane Seale and colleagues at Plymouth University, 10th Jan 2013
This document provides guidance on qualitative research methods that can be used to understand users' perspectives. It discusses core beliefs of qualitative research like understanding users' lives and involving them in the design process. Common qualitative strategies discussed include surveys, focus groups, observation, interviews, and journal writing. Examples are provided of projects that used various strategies like focus groups, usability testing, and online journal prompts. Additional creative methods are suggested like photo elicitation, role playing, mapping, and shadowing. Tips are offered on conducting interviews, including asking open-ended questions, sequencing questions effectively, and allowing silence for elaboration. The document encourages practicing methods and having groups discuss what approaches would work for their specific research.
This document discusses a case study examining the concepts of caring, play, and humor in university classrooms. Two classes, a nursing class and a recreation and leisure studies humor class, were observed. The document outlines three theoretical perspectives on humor: superiority theory, arousal theory, and incongruity theory. It argues that play and humor in the classroom can help create caring environments by reducing stress, fostering collaboration and coping skills, and keeping education enjoyable and meaningful for students.
The document outlines different research paradigms including positivism, which uses scientific methods and quantitative data, interpretivism/constructivism, which relies on participants' views and qualitative data, and pragmatism, which
1. The document discusses challenges faced by women and underrepresented groups in STEM fields. It notes that women and certain racial/ethnic groups are underrepresented in many STEM jobs compared to their percentages in the general population.
2. It explores some potential reasons for underrepresentation, such as subtle biases where women are viewed or treated differently from men. It discusses the "minimal group paradigm" where people tend to favor others similar to themselves, even based on trivial or arbitrary distinctions.
3. It provides advice on strategies for success such as having mentors, self-promotion, publishing in top journals, collaborating with others, and understanding what is valued in one's field such as publications, funding,
Students and schools learn best through social interaction, hands-on experience, and personalized learning. When students take an active role in their education through questioning, discussion, and exploring their own interests, they develop a deeper understanding of content. Teachers also benefit from collaboration, observing students' thinking, and adapting instruction based on individual needs rather than standardized practices. Overall, learning is most effective when it is interactive, customized, and allows students and teachers to learn from one another.
This document discusses the nature and functions of research, including guidelines for writing experimental research papers. It explains that the introduction should establish why the research problem is important and present the hypothesis and rationale. The procedure section should describe how the experiment will test the hypothesis and identify independent, dependent, and control variables. The results section should discuss whether the findings support previous research and implications. The discussion section should analyze and interpret results compared to prior investigations and note limitations. It also defines research problems, lists characteristics of good research problems, and outlines steps for defining the research problem, including developing guiding questions. Finally, it covers reviewing related literature to collect background on the problem, relevant theories, data, findings, and recommendations for further study.
This document discusses leadership and the qualities of a good leader. It states that leadership can be both innate and learned. While some people may be natural born leaders, most people have potential to develop leadership skills through self-awareness, learning from others, and gaining experience over time. It identifies several important characteristics of a good leader, including integrity, confidence, emotional intelligence, empathy, communication skills, empowering others, positivity, being open-minded, self-discipline, providing vision, dedication to excellence, and continuously updating skills. The document emphasizes that there is no single definition of an effective leader and that leadership involves both the leader and the process of leading.
This document summarizes a presentation on inclusion given by Mark Barratt at the University of Auckland. The presentation covered Barratt's experiences that led him to advocate for inclusion, his key beliefs about inclusion, and how to implement inclusion in schools and classrooms. Some of the main points included: defining inclusion as changing attitudes rather than just policy/resources, seeing inclusion as an ongoing process to improve responses to diversity, having presence and participation of all students as the goals, and the importance of teacher attitude, relationships with families, creative problem-solving, and support systems in inclusive classrooms.

A Staff of Heroes: Working Well Across TemperamentsAmma Marfo
This document discusses temperaments and provides information about introversion and extroversion. It begins by introducing NBC's Heroes television show about ordinary people with special powers. It then provides quizzes and descriptions to help determine if a person is more introverted or extroverted. Examples of introverted and extroverted heroes from the show are given. The document notes some misconceptions about temperaments and provides additional unexpected facts. It discusses why understanding temperaments is important and provides tips for interacting with those of different temperaments.
The document discusses theories of teaching in higher education ranging from passive transmission of knowledge to student-directed learning. It also examines the benefits and challenges of large group teaching, including the use of interactive techniques versus traditional lecturing. Effective group sizes and dynamics for problem-based learning are explored, along with the role of face threats and social constructs in student interactions.
The document provides advice for job candidates visiting a liberal arts college campus for an interview. It outlines the typical activities during a campus visit, which include a job talk, teaching sample, department interview, informal meetings, and meetings with students and administrators. The document stresses that candidates should learn as much as possible about the format and audience for their job talk. Candidates are advised to craft a message about themselves as both a mathematician and teacher. Additionally, candidates should be aware they are always being observed, expect something to go wrong, understand the institution's mission, and make the visit about more than just themselves.
This document discusses identifying a research question and provides guidance on developing a clear and focused research question. It explains that research questions often stem from problems encountered in clinical practice or ideas generated from reading. The key steps are to start with a broad idea or topic and then refine the question by reviewing the topic in more detail. A good research question should be answerable, focused using a PICO framework, of interest to the community, and achievable given available resources. Developing a clear research question provides the starting point and direction for a research project.

How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.
