The Green Mile Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "The Green Mile" can present both challenges and opportunities
for the writer. Firstly, the novel itself, penned by Stephen King, is a complex narrative that delves
into profound themes such as justice, morality, and the human condition. Analyzing and
interpreting these themes requires a keen understanding of the text, which may involve multiple
readings to fully grasp the intricacies.
Furthermore, "The Green Mile" has been adapted into a film, and a comprehensive essay would
likely involve comparing and contrasting the literary and cinematic elements. This adds an
additional layer of complexity, as it demands not only literary analysis but also an understanding
of visual storytelling and how it complements or diverges from the original text.
Another challenge lies in balancing personal interpretation with established critical perspectives.
While the essay should reflect the writer's unique insights and analysis, it's crucial to incorporate
scholarly sources and respected literary criticisms to lend depth and credibility to the arguments
presented.
Additionally, navigating the emotional depth of the story can be taxing. The novel's exploration
of human suffering, empathy, and the consequences of societal injustice requires a thoughtful
and sensitive approach. Expressing these themes in a coherent and impactful manner without
becoming overly sentimental or detached can be a delicate task.
In summary, writing an essay on "The Green Mile" demands a multi-faceted approach, involving
literary analysis, cinematic interpretation, and a nuanced understanding of complex themes. It
requires a balance between personal insights and scholarly perspectives, all while navigating the
emotional depth of the narrative. For those finding the task daunting, seeking assistance from
professional writing services like HelpWriting.net can be a viable option. They offer support in
crafting essays on a variety of topics, ensuring a well-structured and insightful piece tailored to
your needs.

Ezekiel s Vision Of Dry Bones
The vision of dry bones
And the prophet Ezekiel told of vision he received from the Lord in which the Lord
put sinews of muscle and flesh back onto dry human bones that were left in a valley,
breathed life into them, and the life became new. Ezekiel prophesized that this meant
to have hope in the Lord, that God said I will put a new heart and spirit in you. This
day is a new beginning to renew your sense of purpose.
The vision of a temple
Ezekiel had a vision from the Lord Jehovah of a future temple; Ezekiel said: I saw
cherub angels sitting on thrones in heaven with the Lord, and there were gates to the
Temple, each ten cubits in width, on the north, south, east, and west sides; and there
was an altar measured in cubits of one cubit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Belshazzaar, the message on the wall says that the days of your kingship will be
brought to an end. Then King Darius took control of the kingdom.
Daniel
Now Daniel, a Jew, would get down on his knees three times a day to worship the
God of Israel, the Ancient of Days. The angel Gabriel gave him understandings to
his prayers. Daniel ate only vegetables and fruits. Some men saw him praying when
the windows to his chambers were opened; it was forbidden to pray to anyone except
the king.
The men brought Daniel before the king and Daniel was thrown into a den of
lions, but the lions did not hurt him. Then the king commanded that Daniel should
be taken up out of the den of lions. Then King Darius wrote all the nations that
dwelt on earth to decree that they should fear the God of Daniel, for He is the
living God, enduring and steadfast forever, and His Realm shall never be
destroyed and His Dominion should be to the end of the world. Daniel had a night
vision, and behold, on the clouds of the heavens came One like a Son of Man, and
He came to the Ancient of Days, and there was given to Him (the Messiah) dominion
and glory, and His Kingdom shall never be destroyed.

Liberia Essay
Liberia owes its establishment to the American Colonization Society; founded in
1816 to resettle freed American slaves in Africa. An attempt at colonization in Sierra
Leone had failed in 1815. Six years later native rulers granted a tract of land on Cape
Mesurado, at the mouth of the Saint Paul River, to U.S. representatives, and the first
Americo Liberians, led by Jehudi Ashmun, began the settlement. In 1824 an
American agent for the society, Ralph Randolph Gurley, named the new colony
Liberiaand the Cape Mesurado settlement Monrovia. Other separate settlements were
established along the coast during the next 20 years. Soon, however, conflicts arose
between the settlers and the society in the United States. By the time Joseph Jenkins...

The indigenous population, however, was still treated as second class citizens,

U.S. Liberian relations became closer after the United States entered World War II
In 1942 the republic agreed to allow U.S. troops to be based in the country despite
the fact that Liberia did not declare war on the Axis powers until 1944. In 1945
Liberia became one of the original member states of the United Nations. Following
his election in May 1943, President William V. S. Tubman pursued a policy of
national unification and economic development through foreign investment. The
latter policy led to the exploitation in the 1950s of iron ore deposits in the Bomi
Hills, located north of Monrovia. In the presidential election of May 1951, women
and indigenous property owners voted for the first time, but the few thousand
Americo Liberians living in the coastal region still retained control of the
government. The incumbent Tubman, candidate of the dominant True Whig Party,
was reelected without opposition. The government had suppressed the Reformation
and United People s parties. Their leaders, supported mainly by residents of the
hinterland, were arrested or exiled following the election. President Tubman was
returned to office in the 1955 election, but he narrowly escaped assassination during
his victory celebration Thirty people were indicted for treason; two former cabinet
ministers and five others were convicted.
The Importance Of Greek Columns In Ancient Rome
The Greeks had amazing concepts that you can now find in many modern American
civilizations, but what did they do to get their inventions and ideas spread across the
world? They brought forth ideas such as, architecture, sports, democracy, arts,
mathematics and philosophy.
When you see modern buildings such as The White House, The Abraham Lincoln
Memorial or The U.S Capital, they all have one thing in common...columns. Columns
originate from Greek architecture to support ceilings without the obligation of having
walls, creating more space. Many of the different columns originated from Ancient
Greece, three to be exact, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. Doric columns have wider
bottoms and simple capitals (capitals are the top part of the column) ... Show more

Their Democracy created the foundation for modern day American government. It is
the only government that cared for the common wealth of its citizens. hey brought
upon representatives and the system of checks and balances. The Greeks had their
representatives and divided them into two houses both of which used the checks and
balances to make sure one side didn t get more powerful than the other. Just like
modern day democracy the representatives were well respected, in greek term most
were aristocrats. Athenian democracy was more direct than our modern day one.
Meaning that the Athenian citizens voted on all of the laws, but just like today only
men 18 years and older could
Congestive Heart Disease
There are several types of diseases of the heart. However, no matter what these
diseases are congestive heart failure (CHF), heart attack, coronary artery disease
(CAD), or any others they still have similarities when it comes to their warning signs
and symptoms. The symptoms of heart problems are very important because it will
tell you that something is wrong, and there is something that you need to consult
with your doctor about.
If you properly recognize the signs and symptoms that may indicate a heart problem,
you have given yourself a big deal of time to save your life. Once symptoms occur
frequently or become severe, or if there are any new symptoms that transpired, consult
with your doctor immediately.

Heart Muscle Disease
Heart muscle disease, also referred to as cardiomyopathy, often shows no or mild
symptoms only. This allows the people having the condition to live a more normal
life than their other heart counterparts. However, the symptoms may progress and
worsen if the heart function worsens too.
People who already have arrhythmias may lead to sudden death in people with
cardiomyopathy.
The signs and symptoms that you need to look out for include the most common
chest pain and discomfort which likely happens during physical activity or after
meals. However, chest pain may also occur with rest. The lower extremities are
swelling and feelings of weakness and fainting also occur. Heart palpitations are

Saks Fifth Avenue vs. Neiman Marcus
I am writing to analyse the company s current balance sheet and income statement.
Particularly, I will critique on the company s results, compare it to past years,
compare it to competitors, and make recommendations on how to improve its
financial position.
Neiman Marcus department stores offer luxurious and high quality men s and women
s apparel and accessories. The Neiman Marcus Group operates 35 stores in nearly
20 states. The 2004 net income was an impressive $204 million and revenue was
$3.5 billion. More importantly, their gross profit was $1.2 billion. Their net income
is approximately 5.8% (compared to total revenue) and 1.7% (compared to their gross
profit). This may seem little, but when a company revenues such a large amount, a ...

Unfortunately, the accounts payable outweighs the cash account, but nevertheless,
the net receivables account is at $560 million. After receiving that amount and
including the cash, they will be able to pay off their entire accounts payable, as well
as short term and long term debt. Lastly, the long term debt is at a mere $324
million. This is only 13% of their total assets, meaning that the company owns most
of their assets.
Again, in comparison to Saks, Neiman Marcus is far better managed. Saks s total
assets are an impressive $4.7 billion, but current assets make up only 44% of it.
Most of their money is valued in power plant and equipment $2 billion. Also, Saks
has high current liabilities of $966 million and an even higher $1.1 billion in long
term debt. They are not able to pay off these liabilities with their cash.
Recommendations based on the balance sheet are little, since the company is
performing so well. Firstly, we can increase cash meaning, make more sales and
have more discounts to attract buyers. Furthermore, increase service sales.
Introduce a dry cleaning line or a tailor service. Secondly, increase property more
stores. We see that we are performing well and with more stores, we will increase
assets. By doing so, we increase our collateral and gain more financial status.
Overall, the company is performing very well

What Is Cosmic Irony In Odysseus
Odysseus fulfills the first criteria of cosmic irony when it becomes clear that a
powerful god, or fate itself, has the ability and desire to manipulate and control
events in his life. Odysseus wants to explore the land of the Cyclops leading him to
get trapped in Polyphemus cave. To escape this alive, he must blind Polyphemus.
After escaping Odysseustaunts the cyclopsleading Polyphemus to curse his trip
home. Since Polyphemus knew that he would be blinded by a man named
Odysseus; All this, he warned me, would come to pass someday that I d be blinded
here at the hands of Odysseus (9. 569 570) Within this quote, it is apparent to the
reader that it was inevitable for Odysseus to go to the land of the Cyclops and blind
Polyphemus because Polyphemus was always told he would encounter Odysseus
one day, leading Odysseus to having his trip cursed by the god Poseidon after he
blinded his son.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lidar Project
LiDAR is a remote sensing survey method that improved upon the advances of
laser altimeter data by being able to model fuel parameters. Models depicting forest
fire behavior are invaluable to resource managers. There are several forest canopy
structures that are particularly effective at modeling fire behavior (Peterson, 2013).
These canopy metrics include height, fuel weight, base height and bulk density
(Andersen et al, 2005). High resolution LiDAR technology enabled large areas of
forest to be measured three dimensionally (Sima et al, 2014). After the LiDAR data
were collected from either a stationary platform or mounted to an aircraft, statistical
regressions could develop numerous predictive models that mapped fuel parameters.

K means clustering works in this capacity by portioning n number of observations
into k number of clusters. Each n is associated with a k based on the mean. The
analysis is complete when each observation is assigned a cluster that is closest to its
arithmetic mean (Nekola, 2004). K means clustering results in several clusters which
can then be assigned to tree, shrub, understory or other related layers. The technology
used to create such DEM s began with early laser survey techniques. Remote sensing
of vegetation advanced significantly with the widespread implementation of laser
scanners. Laser altimeters mounted on aircraft were used to measure vegetation and
surface patterns. The early altimeters were pulsed lasers that could transmit and
receive several thousand pulses per second. A portable computer onboard the aircraft
collected the digital data from the altimeter. The data could later be analyzed to
determine patterns of vegetative cover, patchiness and vegetation height. In Weltz et
al (1994) tested laser altimeter derived canopy cover and vegetative height against
field data made using the line intercept transect method (Eberhardt, 1978). Weltz et al
determined that the altimeter measurements were not significantly different from the
field data. However, canopy cover was consistently overestimated by under 0.3
meters. Early airborne laser scanners were effective at measuring stand and canopy
height (Gaveau, 2003). Mean
Media Role In The Media
Media plays a big role in society these days. Whether it be letting society know
what is going on the in the world today or something as simple as updates on
current life on social media. The media s role in society not only delivers
information of the world but also brings people together through common interests
or general talks. In Brian Knappenberger s documentary: Nobody Speak: Trials of
Free Press it is seen how media effect lives and how there is a much stronger
meaning to what media stands for in society and why media needs to take its stand
when it comes to people who want to devour them. Media is one of the key areas
where power is exercised, reinforced, contested and very influent in the political,
social, and economic fields. This statement that has been discussed in the previous
lectures clearly relates to the message that comes across from Brian Knappenberger
s documentary of Nobody Speak: The Trial of Free Press. Throughout the
documentary, it is argued that those who have influential backgrounds, or have deep
pockets are capable of buying their way out of scandals, and concealing facts and
their truths in front of media. A publisher and reporter s duty to the public eye is to
report and reveal the truth about the world around them without hiding anything from
them. As David Folkenflik mentioned, during Hulk Hogan s case, without the
backing of some wealthy billionaire, there is little of what an independent publisher
[of media] can do. Media is an
Wells Fargo Bank Embezzlement System
Embezzlement is an act withholding assets for the purpose of conversion of such
assets, by one or more persons to whom the assets were entrusted, either to be held

lawyer might embezzle funds from the trust accounts of his or her clients; a financial
advisor might embezzle the funds of investors; and a husband or a wife might
embezzle funds from a bank account jointly held with the spouse.

Dakota Johnson of Fifty Shades Darker is believed to be angry with her stepfather

beginning, since he dumped her mom Melanie in the year 2014 for dating someone
else. It has also been disclosed that she is furious at Banderas for choosing someone
who is so much younger than Griffith. The 22 years younger woman Nicole Kempel
who is a Dutch investment banker is reported to be the current partner of the 58 year
old Spanish born Desperado actor Antonio Banderas. According to reports, Dakota
thinks of Banderas as a selfish man who is trying to recapture his youth. Johnson

Buddhist Monk Murders Case Study
Forensic Evidence Collected and Processed in the
Wat Promkunaram Buddhist Temple Murders For the Midterm Writing Assignment
project, I chose to review and summarize the Forensic Files episode titled, The
Buddhist Monk Murders (S15, Ep3) (Dowling, 2001). In August 1991, nine Monks
from the Wat Promkunaram Templewere forced to kneel in a circle in the living
room then shot execution style in the back of the head. Because of the number of
victims and sheer brutality of the murders, this incident is considered the worst mass
murder in Arizona s history.
Background
In 1991, Wat Promkunaram Buddhist Temple was attended by mostly Thai nationals
and considered a gathering point for the Thai community in Arizona. The Temple is
located in Waddell, Arizona, a small community on the outskirts of Phoenix, and not
far from Luke Air Force Base. Investigators believe the murders occurred in the late
evening of August 9, 1991. The bodies were discovered by a Temple member the
next morning.
Investigation
After securing the outside perimeter, Crime Scene Investigators meticulously
searched inside the dwelling; taking videos, photographs, and collecting over 1,000
fingerprints. The bedrooms had been ransacked but very few items of value had
been taken. In fact, other items of value were left untouched such as cash (which
was left in the open) and a safe, leading investigators to believe that robbery was not
the motive. Among all of the evidence collected, two pieces of evidence
Ramesses III s Accomplishments
Over three thousand years of Egyptian history, only some of the several hundred
who ruled Egypt can be considered great kings. Ramesses III, who was the second

people from all over the region to go crazy and topple empires.
Ramesses was this king s birth name, as it was for most of the 20th Dynasty rulers
who appear to have wished to copy Ramesses II of the 19th Dynasty. Ramesses

What Are Natural Food Companies Unethical
Foods that are genetically engineered should not be falsely advertised as natural
because they are anything but. According to Anahad O Connor, some food
companies are telling the public that their food is natural, but the term natural is

their product is all natural however, those who think that natural foodis that without

it would cause too many issues and take too much time to pass. I believe the F.D.A.

The supporters are striving to terminate abortion directed towards the fetus who are

For example, there is a law requiring mothers to have an ultrasound and granted an

Being Ranked The Second Strongest Alien
I can remember it like it was just yesterday. My Father the strongest alien on planet
Jungle, had left the safety of our house in order to deal with a civilization of aliens,
outside of our door steps, intent on taking him down for his authority and power,
the group had a power that overshadowed all others within the race. This left me in
charge for the remainder of the time, to protect those I see unfit to fight for
themselves in our household, if my father was defeated. I quite honestly believed
being ranked the second strongest alien; I had a horrible fate due to the struggles
that accompanied the position. My thoughts trailed off once more, regained as the
scouter I was equipped with on the side of my head sounded out with a few more...

The Warfare During The World War II Essay
Hybrid Warfare
Since the very first war on record, each belligerent has attempted to find more
advanced ways to defeat the other. Usually wars have been fought traditionally: In
terms of conventional, classic war, definitions are almost identical around the
world: type of war where weapons of mass destruction are not used, only classical
combat means, the fight is fought only by regular armed forces (Frunzet), called
conventional warfare. As populations around the globe grew, another type of warfare
came about. This other warfare can be classified as, activities taken to enable a
resistance movement or insurgency to coerce, undermine or overthrow a government
or occupying power by operations conducted through or with illegal auxiliary or
guerrilla power, in a restricted area (Frunzet), this is known as unconventional warfare
. Most adversaries that the United States has faced can be classified as either a
conventional or unconventional force. Since moving into the information revolution,
there is another type of battle tactic that has come into existence: cyber warfare. This
involves attacking enemies via the Internet, targeting anything that requires Internet
access, such as power plants. Recently, U.S. forces and North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO) allies have noticed a new type of warand given a name to this
different style of war: hybrid warfare. Hybrid warfare is not new; it has been around
for some time, but it was not until recently that it has been studied.

Jonestown Massacre Essay
The Jonestown Massacre
On November 18, 1978, in the South American country, Guyana, 918 people died
from drinking cyanide poisoning. The Jonestown Massacre, led by Jim Jones,
convinced men, women, and children of all ages to commit suicide or be killed in
days to come by the U.S. government. This event would become known as the most
deadly, non natural disaster in U.S. history, before September 11, 2001. James
Warren Jones, better known as Jim Jones, was born on May 13, 1978 in Lynn,
Indiana. His father, James Thurman Jones, and his mother, Lynetta Jones, never gave
him much love during his childhood. Lynetta worked all the time and James was
emotionally absent . Growing up, Jim visited all kinds of churches all over town
including the Church of Christ, Apostolic, Methodist, etc. Jim Jones graduated from
high school and became a student pastor at the Methodist Church in 1952. In 1956,
Jim Jones founded his own church called The Peoples Temple. Jim Jones was
officially ordained in 1964.
Jones became interested in the work of George Baker, or Father Divine, in the late
1950s. He was inspired by the fact that Father Divine was a black preacher with a
multiracial congregation, who claimed that he was God. Jim Jones was disgusted
with segregation at mainstream churches . The Peoples Temple became racially
integrated from the start. He supported and preached racial equality. Jim and his
wife even adopted kids of all races. In 1966, Jim Jones moved the Peoples Temple to

My family and friends don t quite understand my motivations to become a mental
health counselor. Personally, I can think of nothing more rewarding than helping
people through dark times and giving hope for a brighter future. Deep down, I m an
idealist with enough life experience to pepper my expectations. There are countless
possible research topics within the mental health field, but I ve recently developed a
deep appreciation of suicideprevention since volunteering for the Kern County
Mental Health Hotline. I ve also become acutely aware of the relationship between
suicide and mooddisorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder. According to
the CDC, suicide is the second leading cause of death for people aged 15 34 years
old, and the 10th leading cause of death overall. An estimated 90% of those who
have died by suicide suffered from mental illness. That makes mental illness the
top risk factor (NAMI, 2016). I was able to find these statistics quite readily, but I
couldn t find anything relating specifically to mood disorders. Since I am not sure
of what type of research already exists on the subject matter, a literature review
would be the perfect place to start. Not only would a review help verify that this is
direction of research has potential, it would help to develop my understanding of
the topic. If I do find that work has been done on the topic, I could narrow my scope
to focus on points not previously covered. If I review the preexisting work and

sometimes are good to have. Some things people have to keep to themselves. In
the play Romeo and Juliet By William Shakespeare, secrets are kept quiet to keep

good, but also for the bad. The secrets remind them of how much is at risk with the
choices they have been making throughout the story. Throughout this whole story
the Capulet s and the Montague s do not at all get along. Not only does this feud

Trade Routes In Ancient China
Throughout ancient China and Japan, many people would assume that monsoon Asia
was isolated with no connections with Europe. However, even though China and
Japan are known for their own independent and distinct culture from being isolated
from foreign countries, trade routes spread the Chinese and Japanese cultures with
European countries and the Roman Empire through the Silk Road and coastal sea
ports. Some of the effects of trade with Europe can be seen in some modern day
instances in Japan and England. Therefore, monsoon Asia was an isolated region in
respect to Asian culture, but was still connected to outside countries through
commerce. The isolation of ancient Chinawas in part because of their geography, but
it allowed the Chinese to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

remnants of Catholicism can still be seen in modern day Japan. As a result, even
though Europe and the Roman Empire had traded goods and services through the

My Community Importance
Community is a place where everyone should feel comfortable being in and
acknowledge one another s decisions and their presence. Coming from a well
developed community in one of the most developed cities in Nepal, our community
still lacked of several moral values and development. Kathmandu is the capital of
Nepal and is one of the most developed cities throughout the country , but still coming
from a well developed community, our community still faced several problems
which lacked moral values and infrastructural developments within the community.
Although our communities lacked on certain things , people in our community
were still able to provide a good amount of resources to each community which was
in need of any kind of help or resources. My Community is very much important to

Silence Of The Lambs Suspense
Silence or Suspense
Suspense is a state or condition of mental uncertainty or excitement, as in waiting a
decision or outcome. makes the viewers feel this way, because of the different tactics
used to make the movie suspenseful. The three main ways an editor can make a
movie suspenseful is by using score, camera shots, and setting. The Silence of the
Lambs is a movie that has scenes showing different camera angles, that make the
viewers sit on the edge of their seats.
The score used in The Silence of the Lambs was calming , loud, and creepy music.
The calming music was only played when Hannibal was in the scene. Hannibal
was a killer the FBI caught and he is kept in a special asylum. We the viewers,
know that Hannibal s heart rate never rises whenever he kills, so when Hannibal is
murdering someone, calming music is being played. Agent Starling is a rookie

Liberal Arts Education In Plato s The Allegory Of The Cave
Patrick Awuah, the founder of Ashesi University, explains that the purpose of a
liberal arts college is to educate free men and woman to become leaders. Ashei was
the first non profit liberal arts college in West Africa. Patrick saw the need for a
liberal arts education because he felt that the current leaders of Africa did not have
the creative thinking skills necessary to fix the problems threatening Africa. He
believed that a liberal artseducation teaches students how to confront complex
problems and create new and important ideas. The key trait of a liberal arts education
is that it teaches students how to think creatively and allows them space to develop
their own thinking skills, it creates a good balance between societal and scientific
knowledge. new sentence/rephrase
The Skidmore College Mission Statement emphasizes the importance of a never
ending quest for knowledge . This outlines one key part of a liberal arts education,
the understanding that knowledge is limitless and there will always be more
questions to ask. This idea is conveyed in Plato s The Allegory of the Cave, in this
story, shadows on a wall represented the whole world to prisoners until one was
enlightened and saw the real world. Until enlightenment, the prisoners had no way of
knowing that they were looking at shadows their entire life, because we don t know
about the knowledge that we have not yet discovered. In the same way, we don t
know the answers to questions we have not thought of. It
Coral Bleaching Effects
From 1979 to 2006 there were at least six mass coral bleaching events, each of
which were triggered by warming conditions, including higher water temperatures
(Goldberg Wilkinson, 2004). In 2005 the United States lost half of their Caribbean
reefs due to one such bleaching event (National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration, 2016). The color of corals typically comes from the zooxanthellae
living within the coral tissues, and the white color that is associated with coral
bleaching is due to the expelling of the zooxanthellae as water temperatures increase
(National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2016). Therefore, as coral
bleaching seems to be related to increases in water temperature, it is reasonable to
predict that coral bleaching events could become more common as global climate
change results in further ocean temperature increases. However, bleaching events do
not kill corals, rather coral bleaching places the corals under high stress and makes
them more vulnerable to other disturbances, which results in... Show more content on

One example is the Indo Pacific lionfish. In one study, 9 tested coral reef
communities saw an increase of lionfish by 65% which coincided with a decrease
in the biomass of 42 prey species, and this decrease in prey biomass can alter
predator populations, shifting the trophic levels of those communities (Green et al.,
2012). Without further efforts to control invasive populations like the lionfish, coral
reef communities could experience long term negative effects due to the
simplification of their ecosystem. The Pacific red lionfish is an effective invader,
who heavily impacts native systems, due to its venomous spines, rapid growth, and
high reproductive rates (Albins Hixon, 2013). The red lionfish in coral reef
communities in the Bahamas reduced fish recruitment by 74% and lionfish had
reduced prey fish populations by 90% alone (Albins Hixon,
Nathaniel Hawthorne Beliefs
Writing an excellent book, short story,or poem is an ability very few people posses :
Nathaniel Hawthorne is someone who had this talent. Hawthorne s writing is mostly
centered around romantic fiction, he has written a plethora of things but he is mostly
remembered for his short stories and novels. Before divulging into his work, a reader
should know where his writing comes from, his inspirations, originality and what
some would call pure genius. The author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, is an individual
whose work has been and should continue to be analyzed for years to come due to his
unique twist on romantic fiction. Many of his works have casted a silhouette over
America through his intricate stories and writing style that revealed the themes of
psychology and human nature during the 19th century. Hawthorne s ominous style
makes his works into oddities compared to the other romantic fiction novels in his
time. Many of his works, such as The Scarlet Letter, exemplifies the epitome of
Hawthorne s distinct outlook on the moralistic attitudes of... Show more content on

(Gale) An example of this symbolism was Hester^s moral sin of adultery
symbolized by an overly ornate scarlet ^A^ on Hester^s breast. In fact, few authors
who worked outside realism have been as concerned with morals as Hawthorne was.
(Magill:2 1572). Hawthorne also employed allegory as a way of presenting themes.
Hawthorne often achieved allegory by placing characters in a situation outside of the
ordinary (Magill:2 1572). In The Scarlet Letter Hawthorne presented a highly
complex variation on his usual theme of human isolation and the human community
(Harris 304). Hester Prynne was a superb example of both these themes since she was
isolated from a strict Puritan community. Possibly, Hawthorne^s recurring theme of
isolation stemmed from his own experience of seclusion

Wild Thorns Analysis
Supporting the Joel Beinin and Lisa Hajjar, the thesis of Wild Thorns addresses the
dilemma of accepting and rejecting the Israeli regime which causes division within
the Palestine community (9). In fact, Khalifah, the author of the novella, uses the
characters, Usama, Zuhdi, and Adil (Usama s cousin) to support this thesis. In each
instance, she tells how the path that the character chooses either supported their
acceptance or rejection of the regime. Specifically, she shows how Usama and
Zuhdi s rejection (fighting against the Israeli regime) contrasts Adil s acceptance of
the Israeli regime (taking care of the dead Israeli Soldier s wife), thus creating a
division. Using the three characters to represent the Palestinecommunity, Khalifah s
purpose is to illustrate the division within the Palestine community (divided
community: one side rejects while the other accepts the Israeli regime). In essence,
the thesis and of Wild Thorns can be seen through the fate which resulted in the
decision of Usama, Zuhdi, and Adil. Illustrating that there is an opposing side that
rejects the Israeli regime, Khalifah uses Usama and Zuhdi to accomplish this task. In
the story, both Usama and Zuhdi makes the decision to reject the Israeli regime. At
the beginning of the story, one can see that Usama returns to his homeland on a
mission to blow up the buses that transport the Palestinian day laborers to their jobs
in Israel(Khalifah 8, 17). Usama chooses to take this path because he does
Deontology in Jim and the Indians
Jim has found himself in a quandary. When arriving in a South American town he
has happened upon a captain and his army about to assassinate twenty Indians in
order to deter other Indians protesting against the government. Jim is treated as a
guest to the town and offered the privilege of shooting one of the Indians in which
case the captain will let the other nineteen go, however declining this offer will mean
the captain will carry on as planned and killall twenty.
Consequentialism is ordinarily distinct from deontology, as deontology offers
rightness or wrongness of an act, rather than the outcome of the action. In this essay
we are going to explore the differences of consequentialism and deontology and apply
them to the quandary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise in the Jim and the Indians case, we could only act on our own good will
and not kill anyone in the hope that the good will would prevail in the captain and
his men. Deontologists would be of the opinion that something s we are not
expected to do, to perceive ourselves as moral agents. However opponents of the
deontological view, such as Nancy Davies (1993), would argue that this is just
keeping ones hands clean . Davies goes on to argue that, Deontologists ... not only
assign more weight to our own avoidance of wrongdoing where wrongdoing is
understood as violating the rule than to the interests of others, they also require that
we assign more weight to our own avoidance of wrongdoing than we do to the
avoidance of wrongdoing tout court, or the prevention of wrongdoing of others
(1993, p. 207).
However according to the rule based view of deontology, the taking of a life is
wrong and two wrongs don t make a right. To kill as of to save others lives is not an
option as the act of killing is being promoted. It can be perceived that the captain, in
his own wisdom, is of the opinion that his killing of the twenty Indians is justified.
According to consequentialism, the right or wrong thing to do depends on what
would lead to the best outcome; so each act is either morally required or morally
forbidden. We can presume so that a consequentialist who finds himself in the
situation of Jim

Porcelain And Pink Character Analysis
In the extract of the play Porcelain and Pink by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the characters Lois
and Julie s individual personalities can be uncovered. One can do this through
analysation of conversation through turn taking, cooperative principles, implicature
and politeness strategies. We shall discuss these four aspects in detail.
The individual personalities of the characters can be explored by investigating the
turn taking in this dialogue. To begin with, we will look at Lois. From line one to
three, this character shows that she is to the point and very direct. One can see this
through the conversation analysed during turn taking, Lois plainly states she has a
date, and then tells Julie that is none of her business (lines 1 and 3). She does ... Show

We are first introduced to implicature in the first line of the extract from Lois, who
is trying to implicitly get Julie out of the bathroom. To argue this claim we will
look at lines one to four where Lois expresses that she has a date with Julie, but is
implying that she would like Julie to hurry up because of this reason. Julie,
wanting to know more about this date and ignoring the fact that she knows she
needs to hurry up, explicitly asks about it. This exposes the girls unlike makeup,
Lois is trying to suggest a reason to Julie to get out of the bathroom, which is a
nicer way of getting the message across instead of plainly asking her, which could
be seen as rude. Julie, however, is not moved by her inferred meaning, this shows
her mischievous and meddlesome side. (Levey et al. 2015. P
Life Is Beautiful Film Analysis
Life is Beautiful Film Analysis A film directed by Roberto Benigni, Life is
Beautiful was released on the 26th of December, 1998. The film follows the life of
Guido Orefice, who must shield his son Joshua from the horrors of life in a
concentration camp. Roberto Benigni uses cinematic techniques such as lighting
and use of sound, as well as narrative elements such as setting and sequence of
events to convey the theme of beauty being everywhere in Life is Beautiful. A
technique used to convey themes in Life is Beautiful is the use of lighting. In the
ending scene of the film, lighting is used to show how beauty can be found even
when it seemed that all hope was lost. Throughout the second half of the film, the
setting is constantly dark. The room where Guido sleeps with the other inmates
only has a few small windows, and the bunks are always in shadow (1:19:59
1:21:23). A scene where Dora is sorting out clothes (1:14:33 1:15:02) is set in a dim
courtyard with grey walls and peeling paint. These settings give the audience a sense
that the conditions are bad and morale is low. By contrast, the ending is incredibly
lighthearted. As Joshua rides in the procession of vehicles (1:47:23 1:47:44), the sun
is shining, bathing everything in a happy yellowish light. Additionally, the tanks and
surrounding landscape are bright green, whereas the concentration camps were
devoid of colour. This is a beautiful ending to a not so beautiful occurrence. Sound is
another element utilised
Tupac Shakur Is Still Alive
Chris Zenone Tupac Shakur Is Still Alive On September 7, 1996, Tupac Amaru
Shakur was riding in the passenger side of a black BMW driven by Marion Suge
Knight, president of Death Row Records. Tupac and Suge had just finished
watching Mike Tyson defeat Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas,
Nevada. Tupac was standing up through the sunroof while the car was stopped at a
traffic light. The Cadillac containing the gunmen passed an entourage of Tupac s
allies, many of them bodyguards. Four unidentified men pulled alongside Suge s
car, fired 13 rounds, and sped away. No one gives chase and there were no witnesses
on the street. How come? Why not, especially after a heavyweight fight? Tupac was
shot in multiple places including... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He selected his alias to be Makaveli, though spelled differently, is a pseudonym for
the 16th century Italian philosopher Nicolo Machiavelli. Machiavelli wrote a book
titled The Prince, in which the main character fakes his death in order to fool his
enemies. 2Pac studied Machiaveli in depth while in prison, was a fan, and had
read his books several times. Perhaps Tupac was taking his advice? He certainly
has enemies on the East coast, most of who are connected to Bad Boy
Entertainment, a rival of Death Row. In 1994, 2Pac was shot five times in New
York City while he was on his way to the studio, and he claimed that Bad Boy had
something to do with the failed hit. In any case, his name change became fully
complete on his posthumous album, where he states in the booklet, Exit: 2Pac,
Enter: Makaveli. An eerie three fingered handprint also appears on the inside of
the Makaveli booklet. Tupac had two of his fingers shot off during the September
7th shooting. Is it coincidence? It is strange that an autopsy was never performed
on the body (since when don t you autopsy a murder victim?), and 2Pac s family
reportedly cremated his body the day after he died. No one outside of the family
has seen Tupac s dead body, other than the doctors, who could have easily been paid
off with Tupac s riches. These actions, both before and after the shooting, are strange
and point to the fact that Tupac Amaru Shakur is still alive. Other reports have been
published that
Life, Death, and the Political Issues Surrounding Abortion
Life, Death, and the Political
issues surrounding Abortion
Few issues have embodied such controversy as abortion has. The various people
involved in the abortion debate not only have strong beliefs, but each group has a
self appeal that clearly reflects what they believe to be the essential issues. The
abortion supporters see individual choice as central to the debate: If a woman cannot
choose to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, a condition which affects her body and
possibly her entire life, then she has lost one of her most basic human rights. These
issues of abortion believe that while a fetus is a potential life, its life cannot be
placed on the same level with that of a woman. On the other side, the anti abortionist
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument over abortion has avoided the real issue facing today s woman, her
need to grow beyond stereotypes. Whenever an individual or group realizes it has
been treated unjustly, the first reaction is anger, but often the anger is firs
expressed as aggression. People outgrowing oppression have so much built up
inside, so many memories of powerlessness, and so little knowledge of how to
make themselves be heard. Violence towards others usually end up as the result.
American men and women are among the most fair minded, but have slowly
begun to feel that 4,000 abortions a day is enough. The abortion mentality has
encouraged women to think of themselves as victims. Much emphasis is placed on
pregnancy as a result of rape, even though the statistics show only about .1% of all
rapes actually resulting in conception. That means that a large majority of
pregnancies that resulted in abortion were the result of free choice. The
assumption is that a woman does not have control over her own body until after a
male partner is finished with it. Why is that? Where is their sense of pride? Maybe
they re just looking at responsibilities as well as rights, and choosing instead of
reacting. Pro choice supporters argue that abortion should be viewed as not be
immoral, and sometimes a necessary choice a woman must make in order to be in
charge of her life. Considering pregnancy from a woman s point of view, it can be
very dangerous to

Police Corruption The law enforcement role has authority and power in any society,
and often that power is combined with the ability to make discretionary decisions that
may profoundly affect the lives of the people in the community. With abundant power
and authority, the temptation for corruption occurs. Policecorruption is one major
type of police misconduct, and has been known throughout history. According to
Pollock (2012), police corruption does not occur just in the United States (p. 175). It
is well known that in Mexico many officers are corrupt. In Mexico, police officers
are induced and even coerced to collaborate with different drug dealers throughout the
country (Pollock, 2012). This paper... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, the streets are much safer and accidents can be avoided if the law
is strictly and fairly forced.
Graft
Graft occurs when officers exploit their role by accepting bribes or money in
exchange for protection (Pollock, 2012). Corrupt officers, for example, may use their
uniformed authority to ask for money from business owners or gangsters, with the
implied threat of enforcement or difficulty in conducting business as usual. Another
police corruption pattern occurs when some police officers engage criminal activities
during their daily tasks until they change their career positions from police to
criminal cops (Pollock, 2012).
On Duty Use Alcohol and Drugs and Sexual Misconduct It is no secret that some
officers use alcohol and drugs while on duty. Although undercover officers are
more likely to use alcohol and drugs on duty, the on duty use of drugs and alcohol
may be found in the deviant behavior of regular patrol officers. Addiction to drugs
and alcohol are potential sources of law enforcement misconduct and corruption. It
sets a bad example for public relations. It will certainly affect judgment, and
possibly lead to a greater likelihood of use of deadly force or officer involved traffic
accidents. Sexual misconduct occurs when officers use their authority as a means to
receive sexual acts from citizens or society. For example, a male officer pulls a
beautiful motorist woman over and offers to forego issuing a citation
Awareness Of Mental Illnesses And Treatment Options
Essay
Awareness of Mental Illness in My Community Awareness of mental illnesses and
treatment options are an ongoing issue in America. This problem isn t one that can be
simply solved overnight. But starting from the community level, people have the
power to make a difference. A difference that could benefit people who are suffering
with a mental illness and don t have the opportunities to seek help and treatment. In
my community, I have found three mental healthservices. They consist of Eyerly Ball,
Alliance, and Mercy. Eyerly Ball is a nonprofit, community based organization
governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The services they offer are; community
outreach services, outpatient services, and residential services. The community
outreach services consist of nine different sections. The categories I will emphasize
the most is one through five. The first being Forensic Assertive Community
Treatment, this treatment helps individuals in the criminal justice system who suffer
with a serious mental illness. This treatments goal is to help those individuals be
successful in the community without entering jail, prison, or unnecessary psychiatric
hospitalizations.
Second, Eyerly Ball offers Integrated Health Home. The IHH is a team based health
care delivery model. It consists of a nurse care coordinator, care coordinator, and a
peer support specialist. Each participant is assigned a team who actively assess the
participant s mental and physical status. With doing this, they
Analysis Of Mill On The Floss By George Eliot
This research report reviews scholarly criticism on the much debated character
MAGGIE TULLIVER from the book Mill on the floss written by George Eliot.
The project I propose analyses Maggie s character as a whole. The report will
begin by discussing the critics point of view of various reasons responsible for the
death of Maggie Tulliver. The report then focuses on how society and how her
relationships lead to her downfall from the point of view of various critics. A part
of my report also critically analyses the death of Maggie Tulliver. Lastly my report
discusses about the inner conflicts of Maggie and how those conflicts eventually
lead to her fate. Maggie suppresses herself in the patriarchal system and struggles to
make a place for herself and to find an identity of her own. In her article Maggie
Tulliver s long suicide1974 Elizabeth Deeds Ermarth says that Maggie eventually
believes the lie, that she is inferior, or wrong, or not to be taken seriously. She
learned to collaborate in her own defeat . ELIZABETH ERMARTH also
comments on how society affects Maggie since she was shaped to be a child by the
family pieties, it is fitting that her life ends in a reversion to childhood where her
energies to be an adult, tragically, are unneeded. Moving on to her relationships,
Ermarth analyses that her relationships with Mr.Tulliver and her brother Tom
Tulliver play a very important role in her being a selfless person. In return of being
obedient Tom gives
Comparing Job And J. B. The Book Of Job
In the book of Job, Job walks through life making sure his actions and words are
carefully chosen, and even goes as far as to burn offerings for sins yet committed.
The book of Job, and then later the modern take titled J.B., was a new display from
God, showing that bad things can happen to good people. The book of Jobmade it
clear in the biblethat God was not giving or taking anything because of our own
achievement, but that all things good and bad are from God. Archibald Macleishtries
to reenact Job in a more modern version that new readers today might find easier,
and although so aspects might be off from the original text, the story of J.B. follows
closely to Job s story line. One area that can be compared when looking at both texts

J.B s comforters add nothing meaningful to the conversation of suffering and why
God has acted in the ways he did, and one might even question the role of the
comforters in J.B except mimicking the book of Job. The book of Job keeps itself
continuous and even though the comforters miss the overall point of the testing,
they still root themselves in the word and use past examples of God and how he
acts to attempt to aid Job during his state of suffering. This distinction between
comforters is critical as one story truly adds meaning to the reader s life and has a

Cincinnatus Vs Livy
Cincinnatus was chosen to be dictator of Rome in 457 B.C.E. Cincinnatus was
chosen to defend Rome from attacks, especially from the attacks of the Aequi.
Dictator was a position for short term immoral methods used in emergencies. There
is no better account of how virtues of duty and simplicity enabled good Roman
citizens to prevail during the travails of the fifth century B.C.E. than Livy s Account
of Cincinnatus. (Spielvogel p.118). The values that Livy emphasized in his account
of Cincinnatus was that power does not always require money. Cincinnatus had a
great amount of power and used his power to help the roman citizens by fulfilling his
duty of defeating the Aequi. Now I would solicit the particular attention of those
numerous people who imagine that money is everything in this world, and that rank
and ability are inseparable from wealth : let them observe that Cincinnatus, the one
man in whom Rome reposed all her hope of survival, was at that moment... Show

A mission from the city found him at work on his land digging a ditch, maybe, or
plowing (Spielvogel p. 118). If it were not for him being in this line of work, he
may not have been chosen or got the opportunity to be the Dictator of Rome. On the
other hand, the Romans were dreading Cincinnatus as a dictator, this may have been
mostly because he was not very wealthy, again, people tend to believe that money
and power go hand in hand. In the end, he proved to them that he could be a great
dictator when he raised an army, marched out, and defeated the Aequi (Spielvogel
p.118). This helps to demonstrate why the story of Cincinnatus had such a strong
appeal to most Romans. He stepped in as their leader by defending and defeating the
Aequi who lead a tremendous amount of attacks on the Romans before Cincinnatus
halted them. The fact that they had a strong army and good leadership in the story
might be specific elements that inspire the
Compare And Contrast Dolphins And Harp Seals

The traits for a bottlenose dolphin and a harp seal are similar and different, but mostly

How Memories From The Brain Is Capable Of Retrieving...
Every time I learn the name of a student, I forget the name of a fish was once said by
David Jordan, the president of Stanford University (Anderson, Bjork Bjork, 2000).
This statement is interesting because it brings up the idea of the amount of
information one can consume and maintain available at any given time; this
information is put into memory. Memory is the process of maintaining, recovering,
and applying information about episodes and events, when the original material is
not current (Goldstein, 2008, p. 136). This definition mean even if we have not
just experience that memory, our brain can go back in time and retrieve what has
happened hours, days or years ago. Retrieving memories from the brain is the
process of relocating material from Long Term Memory (LTM) back into working
memory, where it becomes available through consciousness (Goldstein, 2008, p.
197). Our brain is capable of retrieving information because it has been encoded.
Encoding is the process of obtaining information then converting it into memories,
in which goes onto our LTM (Goldstein, 2008, p. 196). The main claim of this essay
is that is that if a memory is encoded correctly, then that is all that is needed for
memory failure or success and the process of retrieving memories also relies on the
encoding of the memory. Meanwhile, this claim that encoding is all that is needed
for memory failure or success was researched by Craik and Lockhart (1972, as
described by Goldstein, 2008, p.

The Green Mile Essay. The Green Mile. The green mile part 1 summary. The Green Mile Essay example. 2019-02-24

  • 1. The Green Mile Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "The Green Mile" can present both challenges and opportunities for the writer. Firstly, the novel itself, penned by Stephen King, is a complex narrative that delves into profound themes such as justice, morality, and the human condition. Analyzing and interpreting these themes requires a keen understanding of the text, which may involve multiple readings to fully grasp the intricacies. Furthermore, "The Green Mile" has been adapted into a film, and a comprehensive essay would likely involve comparing and contrasting the literary and cinematic elements. This adds an additional layer of complexity, as it demands not only literary analysis but also an understanding of visual storytelling and how it complements or diverges from the original text. Another challenge lies in balancing personal interpretation with established critical perspectives. While the essay should reflect the writer's unique insights and analysis, it's crucial to incorporate scholarly sources and respected literary criticisms to lend depth and credibility to the arguments presented. Additionally, navigating the emotional depth of the story can be taxing. The novel's exploration of human suffering, empathy, and the consequences of societal injustice requires a thoughtful and sensitive approach. Expressing these themes in a coherent and impactful manner without becoming overly sentimental or detached can be a delicate task. In summary, writing an essay on "The Green Mile" demands a multi-faceted approach, involving literary analysis, cinematic interpretation, and a nuanced understanding of complex themes. It requires a balance between personal insights and scholarly perspectives, all while navigating the emotional depth of the narrative. For those finding the task daunting, seeking assistance from professional writing services like HelpWriting.net can be a viable option. • 2. Ezekiel s Vision Of Dry Bones The vision of dry bones And the prophet Ezekiel told of vision he received from the Lord in which the Lord put sinews of muscle and flesh back onto dry human bones that were left in a valley, breathed life into them, and the life became new. Ezekiel prophesized that this meant to have hope in the Lord, that God said I will put a new heart and spirit in you. This day is a new beginning to renew your sense of purpose. The vision of a temple Ezekiel had a vision from the Lord Jehovah of a future temple; Ezekiel said: I saw cherub angels sitting on thrones in heaven with the Lord, and there were gates to the Temple, each ten cubits in width, on the north, south, east, and west sides; and there was an altar measured in cubits of one cubit ... Daniel Now Daniel, a Jew, would get down on his knees three times a day to worship the God of Israel, the Ancient of Days. The angel Gabriel gave him understandings to his prayers. Daniel ate only vegetables and fruits. Some men saw him praying when the windows to his chambers were opened; it was forbidden to pray to anyone except the king. The men brought Daniel before the king and Daniel was thrown into a den of lions, but the lions did not hurt him. Then the king commanded that Daniel should be taken up out of the den of lions. Then King Darius wrote all the nations that dwelt on earth to decree that they should fear the God of Daniel, for He is the living God, enduring and steadfast forever, and His Realm shall never be destroyed and His Dominion should be to the end of the world. Daniel had a night vision, and behold, on the clouds of the heavens came One like a Son of Man, and He came to the Ancient of Days, and there was given to Him (the Messiah) dominion and glory, and His Kingdom shall never be destroyed. • 3. Liberia Essay Liberia owes its establishment to the American Colonization Society; founded in 1816 to resettle freed American slaves in Africa. An attempt at colonization in Sierra Leone had failed in 1815. Six years later native rulers granted a tract of land on Cape Mesurado, at the mouth of the Saint Paul River, to U.S. representatives, and the first Americo Liberians, led by Jehudi Ashmun, began the settlement. In 1824 an American agent for the society, Ralph Randolph Gurley, named the new colony Liberiaand the Cape Mesurado settlement Monrovia. Other separate settlements were established along the coast during the next 20 years. Soon, however, conflicts arose between the settlers and the society in the United States. U.S. Liberian relations became closer after the United States entered World War II In 1942 the republic agreed to allow U.S. troops to be based in the country despite the fact that Liberia did not declare war on the Axis powers until 1944. In 1945 Liberia became one of the original member states of the United Nations. Following his election in May 1943, President William V. S. Tubman pursued a policy of national unification and economic development through foreign investment. The latter policy led to the exploitation in the 1950s of iron ore deposits in the Bomi Hills, located north of Monrovia. In the presidential election of May 1951, women and indigenous property owners voted for the first time, but the few thousand Americo Liberians living in the coastal region still retained control of the government. The incumbent Tubman, candidate of the dominant True Whig Party, was reelected without opposition. The government had suppressed the Reformation and United People s parties. Their leaders, supported mainly by residents of the hinterland, were arrested or exiled following the election. President Tubman was returned to office in the 1955 election, but he narrowly escaped assassination during his victory celebration Thirty people were indicted for treason; two former cabinet ministers and five others were convicted.

The Importance Of Greek Columns In Ancient Rome The Greeks had amazing concepts that you can now find in many modern American civilizations, but what did they do to get their inventions and ideas spread across the world? They brought forth ideas such as, architecture, sports, democracy, arts, mathematics and philosophy. When you see modern buildings such as The White House, The Abraham Lincoln Memorial or The U.S Capital, they all have one thing in common...columns. Columns originate from Greek architecture to support ceilings without the obligation of having walls, creating more space. Many of the different columns originated from Ancient Greece, three to be exact, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. • 6. Saks Fifth Avenue vs. Neiman Marcus I am writing to analyse the company s current balance sheet and income statement. Particularly, I will critique on the company s results, compare it to past years, compare it to competitors, and make recommendations on how to improve its financial position. Neiman Marcus department stores offer luxurious and high quality men s and women s apparel and accessories. The Neiman Marcus Group operates 35 stores in nearly 20 states. The 2004 net income was an impressive $204 million and revenue was $3.5 billion. More importantly, their gross profit was $1.2 billion. Their net income is approximately 5.8% (compared to total revenue) and 1.7% (compared to their gross profit). This may seem little, but when a company revenues such a large amount, a ... After receiving that amount and including the cash, they will be able to pay off their entire accounts payable, as well as short term and long term debt. Lastly, the long term debt is at a mere $324 million. This is only 13% of their total assets, meaning that the company owns most of their assets. Again, in comparison to Saks, Neiman Marcus is far better managed. Saks s total assets are an impressive $4.7 billion, but current assets make up only 44% of it. Most of their money is valued in power plant and equipment $2 billion. Also, Saks has high current liabilities of $966 million and an even higher $1.1 billion in long term debt. They are not able to pay off these liabilities with their cash. Recommendations based on the balance sheet are little, since the company is performing so well. Firstly, we can increase cash meaning, make more sales and have more discounts to attract buyers. Furthermore, increase service sales. Introduce a dry cleaning line or a tailor service. Secondly, increase property more stores. We see that we are performing well and with more stores, we will increase assets. By doing so, we increase our collateral and gain more financial status. Overall, the company is performing very well

What Is Cosmic Irony In Odysseus Odysseus fulfills the first criteria of cosmic irony when it becomes clear that a powerful god, or fate itself, has the ability and desire to manipulate and control events in his life. Odysseus wants to explore the land of the Cyclops leading him to get trapped in Polyphemus cave. To escape this alive, he must blind Polyphemus. After escaping Odysseustaunts the cyclopsleading Polyphemus to curse his trip home. Since Polyphemus knew that he would be blinded by a man named Odysseus; All this, he warned me, would come to pass someday that I d be blinded here at the hands of Odysseus (9. 569 570) Within this quote, it is apparent to the reader that it was inevitable for Odysseus to go to the land of the Cyclops and blind Polyphemus because Polyphemus was always told he would encounter Odysseus one day, leading Odysseus to having his trip cursed by the god Poseidon after he blinded his son.... Theory of Operation AIM My section included researching indirect current sensing methods that suit the overhead transmission line environment. The device will be used to capture and pick up fault signatures which will be utilised by lines companies for fault detection. Learn Research and design an indirect current sensor Sensor must be able to clamp onto overhead lines Research faults expected on network Provide a suitable signal for SenSys s RIO Analogue to Digital Converter (ADC) Current limitations Research was carried out on what systems and technology is used for current sensing. Learning how these systems work and their limitations was takin into consideration to ensure an effective design could fill the limitations that traditional systems had. Fault Expectation (1 Page) Since the majority of faults found on the distribution are transient faults, it is important to design the system to be able to capture these faults. The most common transients on Orion s network are phase the earth faults. When the fault occurs the currents flow into the system and to the fault then the ground. Even though the transients are short and may last only a few cycles this may cause damage to the system of danger public. An important factor that can influence the transient characterises of the fault is the grounding system. There are three basic types of grounding systems, these include the following: Unearthed Neutral System Solid Neutral Earthed System Impedance
  • 10. Lidar Project LiDAR is a remote sensing survey method that improved upon the advances of laser altimeter data by being able to model fuel parameters. Models depicting forest fire behavior are invaluable to resource managers. There are several forest canopy structures that are particularly effective at modeling fire behavior (Peterson, 2013). These canopy metrics include height, fuel weight, base height and bulk density (Andersen et al, 2005). High resolution LiDAR technology enabled large areas of forest to be measured three dimensionally (Sima et al, 2014). After the LiDAR data were collected from either a stationary platform or mounted to an aircraft, statistical regressions could develop numerous predictive models that mapped fuel parameters. Su and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... K means clustering works in this capacity by portioning n number of observations into k number of clusters. Each n is associated with a k based on the mean. The analysis is complete when each observation is assigned a cluster that is closest to its arithmetic mean (Nekola, 2004). K means clustering results in several clusters which can then be assigned to tree, shrub, understory or other related layers. The technology used to create such DEM s began with early laser survey techniques. Remote sensing of vegetation advanced significantly with the widespread implementation of laser scanners. Laser altimeters mounted on aircraft were used to measure vegetation and surface patterns. The early altimeters were pulsed lasers that could transmit and receive several thousand pulses per second. A portable computer onboard the aircraft collected the digital data from the altimeter. The data could later be analyzed to determine patterns of vegetative cover, patchiness and vegetation height. In Weltz et al (1994) tested laser altimeter derived canopy cover and vegetative height against field data made using the line intercept transect method (Eberhardt, 1978). Weltz et al determined that the altimeter measurements were not significantly different from the field data. However, canopy cover was consistently overestimated by under 0.3 meters. Early airborne laser scanners were effective at measuring stand and canopy height (Gaveau, 2003). Mean
  • 11. Media Role In The Media Media plays a big role in society these days. Whether it be letting society know what is going on the in the world today or something as simple as updates on current life on social media. The media s role in society not only delivers information of the world but also brings people together through common interests or general talks. In Brian Knappenberger s documentary: Nobody Speak: Trials of Free Press it is seen how media effect lives and how there is a much stronger meaning to what media stands for in society and why media needs to take its stand when it comes to people who want to devour them. Media is one of the key areas where power is exercised, reinforced, contested and very influent in the political, social, and economic fields. This statement that has been discussed in the previous lectures clearly relates to the message that comes across from Brian Knappenberger s documentary of Nobody Speak: The Trial of Free Press. Throughout the documentary, it is argued that those who have influential backgrounds, or have deep pockets are capable of buying their way out of scandals, and concealing facts and their truths in front of media. A publisher and reporter s duty to the public eye is to report and reveal the truth about the world around them without hiding anything from them. As David Folkenflik mentioned, during Hulk Hogan s case, without the backing of some wealthy billionaire, there is little of what an independent publisher [of media] can do. Media is an

Buddhist Monk Murders Case Study Forensic Evidence Collected and Processed in the Wat Promkunaram Buddhist Temple Murders For the Midterm Writing Assignment project, I chose to review and summarize the Forensic Files episode titled, The Buddhist Monk Murders (S15, Ep3) (Dowling, 2001). In August 1991, nine Monks from the Wat Promkunaram Templewere forced to kneel in a circle in the living room then shot execution style in the back of the head. Because of the number of victims and sheer brutality of the murders, this incident is considered the worst mass murder in Arizona s history. Background In 1991, Wat Promkunaram Buddhist Temple was attended by mostly Thai nationals and considered a gathering point for the Thai community in Arizona. The Temple is located in Waddell, Arizona, a small community on the outskirts of Phoenix, and not far from Luke Air Force Base. Investigators believe the murders occurred in the late evening of August 9, 1991. The bodies were discovered by a Temple member the next morning. Investigation After securing the outside perimeter, Crime Scene Investigators meticulously searched inside the dwelling; taking videos, photographs, and collecting over 1,000 fingerprints. The bedrooms had been ransacked but very few items of value had been taken. In fact, other items of value were left untouched such as cash (which was left in the open) and a safe, leading investigators to believe that robbery was not the motive. Among all of the evidence collected, two pieces of evidence

Usually wars have been fought traditionally: In terms of conventional, classic war, definitions are almost identical around the world: type of war where weapons of mass destruction are not used, only classical combat means, the fight is fought only by regular armed forces (Frunzet), called conventional warfare. As populations around the globe grew, another type of warfare came about. This other warfare can be classified as, activities taken to enable a resistance movement or insurgency to coerce, undermine or overthrow a government or occupying power by operations conducted through or with illegal auxiliary or guerrilla power, in a restricted area (Frunzet), this is known as unconventional warfare . Most adversaries that the United States has faced can be classified as either a conventional or unconventional force. Since moving into the information revolution, there is another type of battle tactic that has come into existence: cyber warfare. This involves attacking enemies via the Internet, targeting anything that requires Internet access, such as power plants. Recently, U.S. forces and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies have noticed a new type of warand given a name to this different style of war: hybrid warfare. Hybrid warfare is not new; it has been around for some time, but it was not until recently that it has been studied.

Coral Bleaching Effects From 1979 to 2006 there were at least six mass coral bleaching events, each of which were triggered by warming conditions, including higher water temperatures (Goldberg Wilkinson, 2004). In 2005 the United States lost half of their Caribbean reefs due to one such bleaching event (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2016). The color of corals typically comes from the zooxanthellae living within the coral tissues, and the white color that is associated with coral bleaching is due to the expelling of the zooxanthellae as water temperatures increase (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2016). Therefore, as coral bleaching seems to be related to increases in water temperature, it is reasonable to predict that coral bleaching events could become more common as global climate change results in further ocean temperature increases. Hawthorne s writing is mostly centered around romantic fiction, he has written a plethora of things but he is mostly remembered for his short stories and novels. Wild Thorns Analysis Supporting the Joel Beinin and Lisa Hajjar, the thesis of Wild Thorns addresses the dilemma of accepting and rejecting the Israeli regime which causes division within the Palestine community (9). In fact, Khalifah, the author of the novella, uses the characters, Usama, Zuhdi, and Adil (Usama s cousin) to support this thesis. In each instance, she tells how the path that the character chooses either supported their acceptance or rejection of the regime. Specifically, she shows how Usama and Zuhdi s rejection (fighting against the Israeli regime) contrasts Adil s acceptance of the Israeli regime (taking care of the dead Israeli Soldier s wife), thus creating a division. Using the three characters to represent the Palestinecommunity, Khalifah s purpose is to illustrate the division within the Palestine community (divided community: one side rejects while the other accepts the Israeli regime). • 39. Deontology in Jim and the Indians Jim has found himself in a quandary. When arriving in a South American town he has happened upon a captain and his army about to assassinate twenty Indians in order to deter other Indians protesting against the government. Jim is treated as a guest to the town and offered the privilege of shooting one of the Indians in which case the captain will let the other nineteen go, however declining this offer will mean the captain will carry on as planned and killall twenty. Consequentialism is ordinarily distinct from deontology, as deontology offers rightness or wrongness of an act, rather than the outcome of the action. In this essay we are going to explore the differences of consequentialism and deontology and apply them to the quandary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise in the Jim and the Indians case, we could only act on our own good will and not kill anyone in the hope that the good will would prevail in the captain and his men. Deontologists would be of the opinion that something s we are not expected to do, to perceive ourselves as moral agents. However opponents of the deontological view, such as Nancy Davies (1993), would argue that this is just keeping ones hands clean . Davies goes on to argue that, Deontologists ... not only assign more weight to our own avoidance of wrongdoing where wrongdoing is understood as violating the rule than to the interests of others, they also require that we assign more weight to our own avoidance of wrongdoing than we do to the avoidance of wrongdoing tout court, or the prevention of wrongdoing of others (1993, p. 207). However according to the rule based view of deontology, the taking of a life is wrong and two wrongs don t make a right. To kill as of to save others lives is not an option as the act of killing is being promoted. It can be perceived that the captain, in his own wisdom, is of the opinion that his killing of the twenty Indians is justified. According to consequentialism, the right or wrong thing to do depends on what would lead to the best outcome; so each act is either morally required or morally forbidden. We can presume so that a consequentialist who finds himself in the situation of Jim

One can do this through analysation of conversation through turn taking, cooperative principles, implicature and politeness strategies. We shall discuss these four aspects in detail. The individual personalities of the characters can be explored by investigating the turn taking in this dialogue. To begin with, we will look at Lois. From line one to three, this character shows that she is to the point and very direct. One can see this through the conversation analysed during turn taking, Lois plainly states she has a date, and then tells Julie that is none of her business (lines 1 and 3). She does ... To argue this claim we will look at lines one to four where Lois expresses that she has a date with Julie, but is implying that she would like Julie to hurry up because of this reason. Julie, wanting to know more about this date and ignoring the fact that she knows she needs to hurry up, explicitly asks about it. This exposes the girls unlike makeup, Lois is trying to suggest a reason to Julie to get out of the bathroom, which is a nicer way of getting the message across instead of plainly asking her, which could be seen as rude. • 44. Life Is Beautiful Film Analysis Life is Beautiful Film Analysis A film directed by Roberto Benigni, Life is Beautiful was released on the 26th of December, 1998. The film follows the life of Guido Orefice, who must shield his son Joshua from the horrors of life in a concentration camp. Roberto Benigni uses cinematic techniques such as lighting and use of sound, as well as narrative elements such as setting and sequence of events to convey the theme of beauty being everywhere in Life is Beautiful. A technique used to convey themes in Life is Beautiful is the use of lighting. In the ending scene of the film, lighting is used to show how beauty can be found even when it seemed that all hope was lost. Throughout the second half of the film, the setting is constantly dark. The room where Guido sleeps with the other inmates only has a few small windows, and the bunks are always in shadow (1:19:59 1:21:23). A scene where Dora is sorting out clothes (1:14:33 1:15:02) is set in a dim courtyard with grey walls and peeling paint. These settings give the audience a sense that the conditions are bad and morale is low. By contrast, the ending is incredibly lighthearted. As Joshua rides in the procession of vehicles (1:47:23 1:47:44), the sun is shining, bathing everything in a happy yellowish light. Additionally, the tanks and surrounding landscape are bright green, whereas the concentration camps were devoid of colour. This is a beautiful ending to a not so beautiful occurrence. Sound is another element utilised

The various people involved in the abortion debate not only have strong beliefs, but each group has a self appeal that clearly reflects what they believe to be the essential issues. The abortion supporters see individual choice as central to the debate: If a woman cannot choose to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, a condition which affects her body and possibly her entire life, then she has lost one of her most basic human rights. These issues of abortion believe that while a fetus is a potential life, its life cannot be placed on the same level with that of a woman. On the other side, the anti abortionist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The argument over abortion has avoided the real issue facing today s woman, her need to grow beyond stereotypes. Whenever an individual or group realizes it has been treated unjustly, the first reaction is anger, but often the anger is firs expressed as aggression. People outgrowing oppression have so much built up inside, so many memories of powerlessness, and so little knowledge of how to make themselves be heard. Violence towards others usually end up as the result. American men and women are among the most fair minded, but have slowly begun to feel that 4,000 abortions a day is enough. The abortion mentality has encouraged women to think of themselves as victims. Much emphasis is placed on pregnancy as a result of rape, even though the statistics show only about .1% of all rapes actually resulting in conception. That means that a large majority of pregnancies that resulted in abortion were the result of free choice. The assumption is that a woman does not have control over her own body until after a male partner is finished with it. Why is that? Where is their sense of pride? Maybe they re just looking at responsibilities as well as rights, and choosing instead of reacting. Pro choice supporters argue that abortion should be viewed as not be immoral, and sometimes a necessary choice a woman must make in order to be in charge of her life. Considering pregnancy from a woman s point of view, it can be very dangerous to

Corrupt officers, for example, may use their uniformed authority to ask for money from business owners or gangsters, with the implied threat of enforcement or difficulty in conducting business as usual. Another police corruption pattern occurs when some police officers engage criminal activities during their daily tasks until they change their career positions from police to criminal cops (Pollock, 2012). On Duty Use Alcohol and Drugs and Sexual Misconduct It is no secret that some officers use alcohol and drugs while on duty. A difference that could benefit people who are suffering with a mental illness and don t have the opportunities to seek help and treatment. In my community, I have found three mental healthservices. The services they offer are; community outreach services, outpatient services, and residential services. The community outreach services consist of nine different sections. The categories I will emphasize the most is one through five. The first being Forensic Assertive Community Treatment, this treatment helps individuals in the criminal justice system who suffer with a serious mental illness. This treatments goal is to help those individuals be successful in the community without entering jail, prison, or unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations. The report then focuses on how society and how her relationships lead to her downfall from the point of view of various critics. A part of my report also critically analyses the death of Maggie Tulliver. Lastly my report discusses about the inner conflicts of Maggie and how those conflicts eventually lead to her fate. Maggie suppresses herself in the patriarchal system and struggles to make a place for herself and to find an identity of her own. In her article Maggie Tulliver s long suicide1974 Elizabeth Deeds Ermarth says that Maggie eventually believes the lie, that she is inferior, or wrong, or not to be taken seriously. There is no better account of how virtues of duty and simplicity enabled good Roman citizens to prevail during the travails of the fifth century B.C.E. than Livy s Account of Cincinnatus. • 53. How Memories From The Brain Is Capable Of Retrieving... Every time I learn the name of a student, I forget the name of a fish was once said by David Jordan, the president of Stanford University (Anderson, Bjork Bjork, 2000). This statement is interesting because it brings up the idea of the amount of information one can consume and maintain available at any given time; this information is put into memory. Memory is the process of maintaining, recovering, and applying information about episodes and events, when the original material is not current (Goldstein, 2008, p. 136). This definition mean even if we have not just experience that memory, our brain can go back in time and retrieve what has happened hours, days or years ago. Retrieving memories from the brain is the process of relocating material from Long Term Memory (LTM) back into working memory, where it becomes available through consciousness (Goldstein, 2008, p. 197). Our brain is capable of retrieving information because it has been encoded. Encoding is the process of obtaining information then converting it into memories, in which goes onto our LTM (Goldstein, 2008, p. 196). The main claim of this essay is that is that if a memory is encoded correctly, then that is all that is needed for memory failure or success and the process of retrieving memories also relies on the encoding of the memory. Meanwhile, this claim that encoding is all that is needed for memory failure or success was researched by Craik and Lockhart (1972, as described by Goldstein, 2008, p.
