Why Is A Vacation At The Beach Essay
Last weekend, a day in waiting by everyone from children to adults, students or workers. Not
without reason the weekends so in waiting by everyone, especially for some people who spent
most of his time working surroundings, will certainly be a very valuable because they can spend
time not like those days usually. Many of them spend a weekend or a holidaygetaway, some even
willing to go a long way out of town with time consuming travel quite a long time, even if only a

Tropical Rainforest Case Study
Reading #1: 1)Rainforests get swallowed by farms in Brazil Description The photographs
compare the same rainforest at different times. One is taken in 1975, the photo appears to be
mostly green. The other taken in 2008 is very different with lots of cleared out light areas where
trees once stood. When compared the photos look as though they could be taken in two different
places because the area has changed so much. Opinion The difference is amazing, the difference
in greenery i imagine means a growth in the population which is why more area is being cleared
out for farmland. The change is not necessarily bad for the environment in term of plant growth,
because the people are after all planting new crops and improving the soil. Although it is bad for
the former habitats for many animals have lost their homes by clearing the trees and small shrubs
in the forest. 2) Cancun expands at stunning rate Description The two pictures compare the city of
Cancun, Mexico at two points in time. The photo on the right which is taken in 1979 shows an
area of green land with several grey settlements and man made building on it. The photo on the
left taken in 2009 shows the same spot but instead of several small plots, one large grey
development. Which has expanded in all directions all the way to the borders of the photograph in

Which we can assume is an area that is dry and does not have much greenery. The second after

show that the soil there has gotten wet and darker. Opinion This photo shows an improvement of
a dried up wetland getting wet again, the soil got richer and darker which is most likely why so
many more plants can grow now. This area appeared to have restored itself back into a lush wetland

I was born Christmas day in the small town of north oxford, Massachusetts. The year was 1821 and
I was the 5th and last child of sarah and Stephen barton. We were a middle class family and my
parents were hard workers who cared for me very much. I have four siblings , two sisters and two
brothers, whos ages ranged from 10 17 when I was born. For years to come they woild teach me
many skills, some which would help me later on.
I was a very shy child but I kept myself busy with my studies . I was well spoken and well
read(according to my parents) and when I started school I could spell 3 syllable words. Other
things I was taught at a youngs age, mainly by my siblings, were things as in how to play sports,
skip stones, and tasks like sewing and cooking.
My parents had hopes that over time I would become less shy, but when I wtill avoided things
such as public speaking they sent me to boarding school. These were some of the worst weeks of
my life. I became so sick I stopped talking and eating all together. Once my parents realized their
plan did not work I was taken back home. When I got home my family and I soon moved to a farm

Satirical Techniques Used In Andy Weir s The Martian
Andy Weir never meant for his book to become a smashing hit turned into a movie. The Martian
takes place on the planet Mars with astronaut Mark Watney stranded on the deserted planet. Mark
has a hole in his stomach, no communication with NASA, is left with no choice rationing his food
to save his life. In this edge of your seat story, Andy Weir uses suspense as well as humor to make
living on Marsseem a little more bearable. Andy Weir originally wrote the novelThe Martian for his
science blog readers with added elements of humor + suspense to create an award winning novel.
Before becoming a bestselling author, Andy Weir was just a science blogger who wrote The

Another instance in which Weir blends suspense into his writing is:
Potatoes are now extinct on Mars. (Weir 171).
When the hab blows up, Marks potatoes were exposed to the frigid temperatures of Mars, in which
they almost immediately shrivel up and die. This is showing how one little thing gone wrong
results in chain event that doesn t end well. The book would be very predictable and boring without
the element of suspense.
By creating this bestselling novel, Andy Weir has set up a formula for any science fictionnovel to
be written with his incorporation of sarcasm with the added sense of fear. Weir was a child
raised under two science involved parents, so it s no wonder where he got the inspiration from.
By using sarcasm, Weir developed a sort of Watney style of humor. The reader doesn t just see it
as joking. Humor is one of the main things that keeps Mark alive. By keeping the readers on the
edge of their seat with twists and turns no one saw coming, it s hard to find a chance to set this
book down! Because The Martian is such a enthralling novel, Weir could be on the way to writing

Gothic Literature
Art has no influence upon action. It annihilates the desire to act. It is superbly sterile. The books
that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame. The similarities and
differences between Doctor Faustus, a play by Christopher Marlowe, and The Picture of Dorian
Gray, a novel by Oscar Wilde, are pronounced and characterized by their underlying gothic theme.
These can be seen all throughout both forms of literature, including in both character s demise
through plot progression and internal struggles. One way in which both Faustus and Dorian are
alike is that they both sold their soul in a way. Faustus was able to get Mephistophilis, a demon,
to do for him, and bring him whatsoever (1141 Doctor Faustus). Dorian was able to make
portrait s appearance change, instead of his own. As his soul would get more and more ugly and
twisted, it would get represented by his portrait. In this sense, both faustus and Dorian gave their
true soul in return for something else. For Faustus, he sold it for power. He felt like he knew
everything and he just needed more power. He sold his soul to the devil for that. Dorion on the
other hand, sold his soul simply for means appearance. How he looked was so important to him, he
decided he had to keep his pretty perfect boy look. He felt as if this... Show more content on

.Faustus had to write homo fuge on his arm to complete the deal (1140 Doctor Faustus). It was
also much more official after he agreed to a bill it was said that faustus hath bequeathed his soul

organized, Dorian simply makes a wish, If it were I who was to be always young and the picture
was to grow old! (31 Dorian Gray). For Dorian, the process was much more subtle and less
official. On the other hand however, Faustus has to agree to a bill, inscribe a phase on his arm,

The Spanish artillery out matched the Aztec and Incas. Their forces were no match for the number
of Aztec and Inca men but because of the Spanish artillery. There is an example of the Inca
civilisation where there were 200 spanish soldiers against 50,000 Inca warriors. The Spanish
soldiers terrorised the native Americans by firing their rifles. Which caused the natives to believed
that the soldiers could create thunder. Crossbows were also used but uncommon because they were
slow to load and could malfunction easily. The most common weaponin the Spanish artillery was
the sword. A good foot soldier could kill many natives in seconds. Spanish soldiers had the finest

The Choices Among Model Assessment Statistics
Compare and contrast the choices amongst model assessment statistics
There are two factors that determine the appropriate validation assessment rating or assessment
statistics. Firstly the target measurement scale and secondly the prediction type. For a binary target
with a primary outcome(target=1) and secondary outcome(target=0) there are three types of
prediction types a.) decisions b.) ranking and c.) estimates. When the prediction type is decision
for a binary target, it works to match the primary decision with the primary outcome yielding a
correct decision called as true positive and matches the secondary decision with the secondary
outcome yielding a correct decision called as true negative. In this case the decision predictions
are rated by their accuracy in other words in order to maximize accuracy there should be
agreement between the outcome and prediction. Also, when the secondary decision mismatches
with the primary outcome it yields an incorrect decision called as false negative. Similarly, when
primary decision mismatches with secondary outcome it yields an incorrect decision called as
false positive. In this case the decision predictions can be rated by their misclassification rate
wherein to minimize misclassification there should be very less disagreement between the actual
outcome and predictions. In ranking predictions, the cases are ranked based on their likelihood of
being a primary or secondary outcome. When the primary and secondary cases are

Moral Panic
According to Stanley Cohen (1972, pg. 9), moral panics occur when a condition, episode, person
or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests , and is
useful for explaining the hysteria in Western society towards the pandemic of HIV/AIDS.
Sociologists argue that there was a social construction around it s meaning and the way in which it
was perceived caused by an apparent social anxiety or prejudice against homosexuals and other
minority groups. This essay will attempt to recognise the definition of moral panics and its
application to HIV/AIDS and its social construction.
A moral panic can be defined as the common characteristics of social problems that suddenly

Simon Watney ([1988] cited in Moral Panics and the Media, 2006, p. 251 252) argues that in the
example of AIDS posed a significant challenge to any moral panic model . He proposed five
major criticisms: firstly, he argues that moral panics place blame on the state as a prime mover
in moral panics. Whilst this may lend itself to be true in the case of the U.K. government, it does
not consider that British society was naturally prejudice against the minority groups inflicted by
the virus before its arrival. Thus, the campaign to warn the public on the virus did not directly
influence the public into a moral panic but was instead a factor. Secondly, a model which
separates out individual moral panics cannot appreciate how they may overlap and reinforce
each other . Thirdly, it does not recognise the significance of dominant discourse. During the
1980s, Britain had already gained a significant prejudice against these minority groups as
mentioned above and thus it may not be useful to describe the pandemic as a moral panic as the
dominant discourse of society at that time was naturally homophobic and racist. Therefore, it can
be argued that HIV/AIDS only heightened the social anxiety of, for example, gay people, because
the anxiety was already in place. The fourth criticism to be made by Watney (1988) is that the
theory does not allow for folk devils resisting the status. Folk devils are

Universal Health Care
In 2007, more than 45 million Americans did not have health care insurance. The United States is
the only industrialized major nation in the world without health care, and the debate about changing
that has become a popular issue recently. The sharp difference between the two sides is a
difference in ethical values; those for universal health caredesire to see the government help others,
mainly the lower class, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue
taking advantage of the status quo for profit. In this paper, I will argue why the Government should
put in place The Universal Healthcare Systems.[1]

Private insurance companies can inflate the price of their service if they desire. A universal
healthcare system prevents that because it is run by the government.[2]
I personally understand health care cost, and spending is a major concern for our society. Many
governments around the world have established all embracing health care, which takes the
burden of health care expenses off of private businesses or individuals through pooling of
financial possibility. There are tons of arguments for universal health care, and related health care
practices. Health care is an important part of health systems, and therefore, it often accounts for
one of the largest areas of high spending for both governments and individuals all over the world.
For example, medical debt is now a leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. A
policy should be created to help lower the cost of health care.2
One way that would help improve health care spending is to create a universal health care to
make sure everyone is covered. By creating this, it will help decrease the number of lobbyers
which in turn will cut government funding to those special interest groups. There are 45 million
Americans uninsured and according to CNN report, 45,000 Americans die each year due to lack
of affordable health care. So by creating a universal health care system, we can be sure to expect
to see a longer lifespan for our population as is the case in countries that

Canada Political Influence
Political interferences have played a great role in economic crisis in the current world, especially
in most decisions that gives the direction of the economy. Policies are made according people
beliefs and the current situation and matter to address at hand. Ideologies and perceptions are made
from past experiences and predictions with an aim to address the upcoming challenges. The Second
World War resulted to the great depressionand economy collapsed in many countries in the world.
Wartime expenditure resulted to mobilization of countries funds and human resources, this resulted
intervention in the economy that induced inflation. In Canada s government responded in control of
labor in quest of collective bargaining and huge wages which counted the rising popularity in
legitimate demands of organized labor in order to access guaranteed collective bargaining.
Collective bargaining brought conflicts in Canada as unions incited for strikes just after war.
Governments committed itself in adopting monetary and fiscal policies to maintain consumer

Spreading available labor lowers available unemployment crisis unlike solving the state of the
society in terms of income rather than increasing secondary labor market. Likewise movement of
global capital toward low tax jurisdictions results to incredible government attempt to redistribute
income on non labor markets. Therefore, there has to be employed strand of thoughts in political

Attitudes And Beliefs Revisited. The American Counseling
Attitudes and Beliefs Revisited The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics (2014)
requires counselors to respect and promote client autonomy, and withhold imposing their personal
values onto client. This is particularly difficult when counselors hold deep beliefs that are
fundamentally opposed to client s goals. The ACA code of ethics (2014) states that the primary
goal of counseling is ...to respect the dignity and promote the welfare of clients (1.A.1). Self
awareness and evaluation is critical to best care practice, as counselors may not be consciously
aware of the values they hold or place upon their clients (American Counseling Association, 2014).
This is also helpful for counselors in training who are Christians, and it was... Show more content

This is a pitfall that I am striving to overcome however, with the first step of being aware of my
particular weaknesses. Secondly I realized if I rejected working with a gay or lesbian couple on
the basis that I objected to their lifestyle, logic then dictates that I approve of the lifestyle of all
the other clients with whom I work. Additionally, I realize that I have a particular aversion to
working with gay or lesbian couples (as opposed to couples who are living together), and this is
also an area that I am currently addressing. In conclusion, I recognize that my job as a counselor
involves respecting the role and the duties it entails. I would feel more uncomfortable working
with this set of clients, however I believe I would still be able to do my job well. It is the duty of
the pastor and the evangelists to promote what the Bible says about marriage and family, and it
is my duty to ethically perform my job and trust that God will us it for His glory. A Gay or
Lesbian Couple Wanting to Adopt a Child This is a similar issue to the previous, however it is
more difficult for me because there is now explicitly a third party involved. My personal value is
that God designed children to be raised by married, heterosexual parents. Additionally, I suspect the
conditions of foster care are not ideal either. Regarding my values, although recognizing I could be

Book Report On The Future Of The Internet
Book Report of The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It
In the computer and technology book The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It , the author
Jonathan L. Zittrain (2008, April 20) wants to alarm us that the internet world which we think is
totally open and ruled by the users all over the world is actually controlled by some particular big
companies and institutions. The openness and creativity of the Internet is a double edged sword.
Under the cover of a bloomed and wonderful development, today s environment of the Internet is in
danger. He suggests that more efficient methods and stricter requirements should be carried out to
standardize the industry of the Internet.
Mr. Zittrain writes the book in the way that associating today s problems of the Internet with the
history of the computer field. Firstly, the author shows the development of personal computer and
the Internet in a unique way. He analyses the reasons of the success of the Microsoft company and
the iPhone. Then he explains many of our current technical barriers and bottlenecks using the
theory of generative and sterile. By using the examples like Wikipedia, Zittrain cleverly introduces
us the obstacles that may be encountered in the development of the Internet in the future and many
ethical issues such as network security and privacy. Focusing on these issues, the author voices his
concerns and gives some feasible suggestions.

Sensors And Instrumentation
An Introduction to Sensors and Instrumentation
Chapter 1 Introduction to Sensors and Transducers
Instrumentation is defined as the art and science of measurement and control which is considered
as working with instruments used to measure, record, and control process variables (for examples,
fluid level and flow, temperature, and pressure). Control and measurement systems are very widely
used in the petroleum product (oil and gas) industries, chemical and fertilizer industry, the pulp and
paper industry, power generation, food processing and several other complex process. Control
systems have attained significant applications in automotive industrial processes for the improved
productivity, conserved entry, and reduced pollution. Instrumentation and control systems continue
to be an extremely important field of technology with the rapid growth of industrial sector.
Instruments are devices which are used to measure attributes of physical systems. The variable

Pediatric Implications of Diagnostic, Interventional, and...
Since the beginning of the propitious world, the core aspect that keeps it thriving is the propensity
for people to discover innovations; however, progress of the past is, systematically, detrimental to
the future. Not long after the revolutionary invention of the X ray in the late 19th Century, an
unprecedented number of medical examiners noticed (unknown to the time) radiation burns all over
their body; decades later, an extraordinary surge in cancer cases had arisen. Perhaps, during the
course of these years, scientists and researchers desired to further progress the x ray (into the
immense subsidiaries that are here today), and disregarded any flaws in the apparatus. This
systematic inclination continues into the present time as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diagnostic radiology has evolved into being the foundation of medical institutions across the
nation; yet, with more and more pediatric patients needing a radiographic image, there are
greater risks of calamities. Shortly after the 20th century X ray scare was resolved, hospitals
nation wide used the state of the art machine to diagnose broken bones, teeth snags, infections,
and even certain cancers. Along with new medical standards and safety measures, followers of
Wilhelm Röntgen (the inventor of the X ray) discovered the properties of X radiation (Hart 48
50). Being close to gamma rays on the electromagnetic spectrum, X radiation fully penetrates the
human body, and since they are produced from a changing nucleus, they are able to affect and
change the nucleus (cells) of the absorbing matter (Cancer 1 4; Burrill (2) 59 62). Oftentimes, the
radiographer will not line up the machine correctly with the organ, tissue, or bone in question and,
therefore, will tell the patient they must retake the image. One X ray of the midsection is equal to
three full days of background radiation (Hart 50). Radiologic technologists do not keep records of
patients prior radiation exposure so it is up to them to discuss (with a general practitioner) and
know their limits (Choy 88). A

ABSTRACT Computer Topography images are often corrupted by salt and pepper noise during
image acquisition and /or transmission, reconstruction due to a number of non idealities
encountered in image sensors and communication channels. Noise is considered to be the number
one limiting factor of CT image quality. A novel decision based filter
, called the wavelet based
multiple thresholds switching (WMTS) filter, is used to restore images corrupted by salt pepper
impulse noise. The filter is based on a detection estimation strategy. The salt and pepper noise
detection algorithm is used before the filtering process, and therefore only the noise corrupted
pixels are replaced with the estimated central noise free ordered mean value in the current filter
window. The new impulse detector, which uses multiple thresholds with multiple neighborhood
information of the signal in the filter window, is very precise, while avoiding an undue increase in

Review of Paddy Whacked Essay

his books (The Westies, Born to Kill, Havana Nocturne, and The Savage City) and articles cover

Another misconception I had was that gangsters/mobsters controlled only corrupt policemen and
judges when in fact, they controlled people at all levels of the government, occasionally even the
president. Important characters like president James K. Polk, the Kennedy s, and several senators
had a relationship with Irish American gangsters that contributed to the politician as well as the
gangster s success. Their strongest relationships though, were with the police force. Becoming a
policeman was encouraged by the White Anglo Saxon Protestants because who better to take on
the dangerous, low paying job than a Paddy? (61) And so, Irishmen who often had grown up
with famous mobsters ended up as the majority of the police force; mobsters not only gained
more power in the local area due to this, but the stage was now set for corruption at all levels as
well.
In addition to the educational facts, I also learned some neat fun facts about gangsters and their
traditions. Old Smoke Morrissey was the first true Irish Mob Boss, and as such he was the one who
established the looks, desires, and attitude that we derive our stereotypes from. He started the
tendency of wearing striped suits, hats, big rings, and pocket watches, as well as having a well
kept beard and hoping to be accepted by aristocratic society through money. The famous book The
Great Gatsby was actually inspired by the mixture of glamour and danger that

Greek Gods Vs Roman Gods
Greek and Roman gods and goddesses are often grouped together without any thought of the
contrasts between the two separate ancient deity groups. People see that some of the gods
powers or purposes are similar and suddenly the two different bundles of gods get merged into
one. At this point, Zeus, the main greek god, and Jupiter, the main roman god, are
interchangeable. Although, the time periods and reasons for why the gods were conjured up are
completely different. Even the overall natures of the two groups of gods are contradistinctive. Just
because of a few similarities, people have ignored these contrasting factors between the Greek and
Roman gods. Now, of course, the Greek gods and the Roman gods have some similarities. To

The Greek gods were very individualistic, so in myths where they created a problem, they would
receive the consequence as individuals, not as a group. Additionally, the Greeks, who were very
into the arts, shaped their gods to lean more towards the creative side. Due to this creativity
shown in the gods, they were mostly based on personality traits, such as honor, love, and hate.
These personality traits shaped how the gods acted and even how they looked. According to the
Myths and Legends website, Greek gods and goddess had very beautiful and handsome bodies
that were just stunning. Greek gods were based more off of personality traits which helped in
the making of their perfect physical appearance (Georgia G.). While Greek gods were creative,
physically perfect, and individualistic, Roman gods were the complete opposite. Roman gods
were non individualistic, receiving all their consequences as a group. The Romans shaped their
gods to lean more towards actions, rather than words or creativity. Since the gods were more
particular to actions, they were named after objects and didn t really have a personality or
physical being at all. The same Myth and Legends article described how Roman gods on the other
hand were more of a mere illusion. Roman gods weren t given physical forms and they were

two glasses of the decadent drink. In the long run, the empire was able to use its enormous
economic power that it gained from the British East India Company to take control of the global
tea market. And in conjunction with the West Indies the British were able to buy tea and sugar
from both ends of the world and still have a cheaper drink than beer.
The quote above refers to the great power of the British region and its great might to achieve
anything that it wishes from new technology to the complete takeover of countries such as India
and America. The British global superpower considered tea as part of its culture as it was
considered the favorite drink by many Britain s including soldiers who were also given tea when
on active duty. As an uncontested super force Britain was able to spread its tea culture around the

For each separate scenario identified, a suitable course of action has been constructed that best
encompasses the strategy stated above. Preliminary Step The authenticity of the desk is the first
issue that needs to be resolved: the validity of the contract is contingent upon this sole factor and
any following measures to resell the desk cannot be made without proof of authenticity. However,
before any tests can be conducted, Antiques R Us must, in good faith, fully disclose the situation
and their thoughts on the matter to Yankee Antiques. In trying to maintain good relations with the
valued supplier, a letter should be made in writing to Yankee Antiques outlining the doubts and
concerns raised by the third party and ask them to provide proof of authenticity. This crucial
preliminary step is justified by the following reasons: 1. Full disclosure acts as a letter of intent in
this situation; it explains that Antiques R Us still has faith in Yankee Antiques, but that pursuant to
the terms of our contract and the request of our client, we have no choice but to require proof of
authenticity. In attempting to honour the contract, any delay in performing our obligations will not
be made in bad faith. 2. If the situation is brought to court, Antiques R Us has proof that an attempt
was made to inform Yankee Antiques about the authenticity issue. 3. If

Summary Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson

TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature
Ellen Bayer
Conversation Essay
As reading this journal the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these nature writers
are looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are
looking at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short The
Marginal World written by Rachel Carsonshe portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long
as there has been an earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet
it is a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life.
Each time that I enter it, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings,
sensing that intricate fabric of life by which one creature is linked with another, and each with its
surroundings. (481). Based off this quote, we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see
nature as something that could be touched, but rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the
title The Marginal World was clarified in the first part of the essayby the historic war even between
both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When
she talks about how the waves would always withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of
the sea was indescribable, this showed us how much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It seemed

Domestic Violence Research Paper
In New York today, there are many social issues occurring. Racism, discrimination against religions,
the LGBTQ community, and more. A major issue we have in this state, that not many people
recognize, is domestic violence. Domestic violence is the physical, verbal, sexual, or mental abuse
between two people in a relationship. Domestic violenceis a relevant social issue occurring in New
York, but my community and I have ways to put it to an end. Being a woman, I am more
endangered of domestic violencethan anyone else, a way that I can help stop domestic violence is
saying something when I see something.
Domestic violence is a negative and deleterious problem that affects people from all socioeconomic,
religious, and cultural backgrounds. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A significant way that I can help put an end to domestic violence, is by doing something when I
see the problem occur. In the past, I have seen domestic violence happen, but I said nothing. As a
community, we can stop domestic violence by spreading the word and educating people about the
issue. Looking in the future, I see change happening. Although there are some faults as to why
domestic violence can not be stopped, I believe it is possible if we work together as a whole.
In chapter 6: considering my role in the world, I used the element of information, and the standard
of relevance. I used relevant information in my essay in order to support my claim. I included data
from various websites in order to make my thesis stronger. These two go well together because
using this pair in your writing can help you have strong evidence, which makes your claim stronger.
Another pair that I used in my essay, was point of view and accuracy. I used this pair in my
counterclaim to show that the victim is not the only victim in domestic violence. There is also the
abuser who has their own significant reasons for initially doing what they do. This pair goes well
together due to the fact that it is important to have a fair amount of perspectives in your

Analyzing The Song What It s Like
Most of us at some point in time, or even multiple times, have asked ourselves if we are using our
time wisely. This can have various meanings. Relating to the collage we completed before hand, my
main focal point was to use lyrics that had the most meaning to me; After picking the quotes I
wanted, I realized that my focus showed how important timeis to me. The quotes placed in my
college all seemed to relate to time in my mind. So, in the following lyrics, I found a way to relate
them to time in our life, and tie these songs together in a way they may not have been connected
before.
In Everlast s song What It s Like the lyric God forbid you ever have to walk a mile in her shoes;
cause then you might know what it s like can mean a variety of different things. Based on the
tone of the singer s voice and the sound of the song, What It s Like can be considered a depressing
song about the real situations in life. We choose not to think about the brutality that certain
individuals have to go through cause then you might know what it s like according to Everlast.
The band chooses to include these lyrics in the song to show people that we can not understand
what a person is going through or why they choose to pursue a certain action until we know what
the individual has gone through. Because the individuals in What It s Like did not put themselves
in Mary s shoes they judged her immediately on her decision to get an abortion without questioning
the reason why she is

You can take shots from the back of the head, half face and side of the face to come up with
incredible images that also feature the background.
Look for a Couple Taking an Awkward Selfie
To use this method appropriately, you have to know the exact kind of picture you want. You can
help to capture a photo of a couple that is confused on how to take selfies and let them observe
your movement to make sure they take the same exact shot of you. Since they already have an
incredible photo of them from you, they will take time to produce a picture that will make you
happy.
Video Screenshots
This technique may seem complicated as it takes quick photos, but it s great if you need a
variety to of photos. You can upload the video on a computer and take screenshots of the frames
that you like, crop and then edit to upload it as a photo. Videos are fantastic as you can do actions
that you would not do when holding a phone. Some cameras have 4K photography function that
enables the camera to take about 150 photos in about 5 seconds with little motion blur.
SloMo Screenshots
SloMo videos are ideal for still pictures compared to actual videos. It is a great idea for things
that move fast such as waterfalls and animals. You can later edit the photos and get to frame your
favorite shots. You can mount your phone where you are sure to get the right angle to get perfect
shots of Slow Mo by yourself.

people have the privilege to learn British Sign Language in primary schools, it will be easy and
fun to learn, young children will be able to connect more fluently with hearing impaired children

disability. This will also allow children to learn a new language faster as the younger you are
when learning a language, you tend to remember it more, whereas learning it when you are older

to both hearing and deaf individuals as this would break the communication barriers so that both

Geoffrey Chaucer Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement: Geoffrey Chaucer was one of the most influential writers of the
Medieval times.
Geoffrey was born in the early 1340 s and he died in 1400.
Geoffrey Chaucer was born later than 1340, but probably earlier than 1345. There aren t any
records on his actual date of birth (Theodore 1). Geoffrey Chaucer s family name was deprived
from the French Chaussier which implies that his family were shoemakers at one time. His father
and grandfather were wine merchants, so they were both successful and rising men (Theodore 7).
Chaucer died in 1400 on October 25th. He passed away of unknown causes in London, England.

Chaucer and Philippa are usually credited with two sons and perhaps a daughter, Elizabeth

He and Phillipa were financially secure (Encyclopedia.com). None of Chaucer s poetry is

Aristotle s Views On Human Happiness
2 PURPOSE OF HAPPINESS
For Aristotle, happiness was related to a natural function. He argued that if we as human fulfilled
our natural function/purpose then we will be able to be happy and want for nothing at all (page
91). Aristotle believed that human happiness refers to the function most proper to the human
should and essentially the function must be exclusive to human. He argues that this supposed
function is a practical aspect of life that comes from the rational part within humans. The use of the
term practical suggests that there is a predetermined conduct which comes as a result of having
rational capabilities. This ultimate good of an individual should stem from this and therefore
naturally flow from performing your function to a high standard. In order to attain true happiness,
this must be repeated throughout one s life. Aristotle s view can be considered to be flawed as he
says that only human beings can fully use reason or be described truly happy as happiness derives
from reasoning. He argues that the distinction between human beings and animals is due to human
capability to perform certain actions that only human beings can perform due to having reason.
However, in the instance of a young child who is not yet able to reason, Aristotle s statements are
highly problematic. Can we really say that it is incapable for a child to experience true happiness?
Admittedly they may not experience happiness in a similar way but, nevertheless one could argue
that it is

Applying Microeconomics On Microeconomics And Microeconomics
Throughout this paper, individuals will gain an understanding of the objectives that students should
feel are important while learning about microeconomics. In addition, individuals will understand
how easily we use microeconomics on a daily basis. For instance, individuals use free trade without
thinking about it. There is a lot of material to learn from microeconomics, but one can only feel that
knowing how to make a profit and how the labor market operates its income distribution is
important because opportunity cost gets businesses to succeed. Individuals will understand how
one can relate to external cost. External cost occurs every day because individuals/organizations do

However, when it comes to the economic questions, business will notice that some of their products
and services will be limited because they will use opportunity cost. Therefore, when individuals
make such decisions they must consider the opportunity cost. Opportunity cost is what you
sacrifice to get something (O Sullivan, Sheffrin, Perez, 2014, p. 29). Everybody sacrifices
something in order to gain. For example, I have been using opportunity cost for the past two years
because I want to get my associates degree. When organizations sacrifice something, they typically
made trades. For instance, if an employee wants a weekend off, the manager must agree that the
employee can trade the weekend with another employee. Some individuals use opportunity cost
without much knowledge, just as economics, because we all want something; yet, in order to get
something we must give something. We all sacrifice something major/minor just to survive the
world. Meaning, individuals work to have an income, yet the income will be to purchase
miscellaneous items; therefore, individuals that work will sacrifice everything to gain something.
In addition, market equilibrium is important to businesses because business owners do not want to
change prices if they do not have to. Market equilibrium is a situation in which the quantity demand
equals the quantity supplied at the prevailing market price; therefore,

Dogs Are The Better Pet Over Dogs
More people in the US own cats than they do dogs. In the US, 95.6 million people own cats
compared to the 83.3 million who own dogs ( Pets by the Numbers ). 12.3 million more people
own felines than they do canines. There are a few explanations why felines are favored over
canines in the US. Felines are the superior petover canines by population because cats cost the
owner less money than dogs do, they do not need too much for their maintenance, they do not
depend the owner as much as dogs do, and are usually healthier and have a longer life span.
The first reason why cats are the better pet over dogs is because cats cost less to maintain as far as
yearly and medical costs. The yearly cost for cats is around $450 which is significantly different
from the $660 yearly cost for a dogs ( Cat vs Dog ). Bottom line, dogs are one and a half times
more costly than the typical yearly cost for a cat. Nevertheless, there is an even greater price
percentage for medical bills when we relate these two animals. The average medical fee for a cat is
only $160 a year. Whereas, a dogs fee can be $290 a year or more ( Cat vs Dog ). There is a
substantial variance in cost when comparing dogs and cats. Studies, have shown that no matter
which way they look at it, cats are cheaper.
Cats aren t better just because they have lower yearly costs and medical fees, but also because cats
do not need as much maintenance as dogs do. Both need love from the owner, but apart from love,
they need other

What Was The Underlying Cause Of World War I Dbq
It all began with an assassination,by a Serbian nationalist on June 28, 1914 in the Balkans. The
Archduke of Austria Hungary was shot and killed in his own vehicle, which sparked war between
Russia and Germany and the alliances that went along with it. The Allies consisted of France, Great
Britain, Russia, The United States and Italy, while The Central Powers consisted of Austria
Hungary, Germany the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The underlying cause of World War I
consisted of three reasons, Militarism and Alliances as well as Imperialism being the most
important. One underlying cause of World War I was Militarism. In 1890 Germany and Austria
Hungary spent together about 40 million pounds, and in 1914 increased their spending to 150
million pounds (Doc C). As well as that Great Britain, Russia and France spent 100 million
pounds and increased spending to 225 million pounds (Doc C). This shows that a buildup of
arms was an important underlying reason for the war. In a speech before the German Congress

In 1959, Fidel Castro seized control of Cuba and the country turned from dictatorship to a
communist state. The Cuban socioeconomics follow that of other Communist cultures for example
the Soviet Union, where the government is in control all parts of its citizen s way of life. In most
recent years, Raul Castro has setup many reforms that benefit the people. The reforms are:
1. Removal of internal restrictions on the movement of people and goods within Cuba. As things
currently stand, people within Cuba are not allowed to freely trade goods and products from one
province to another. These restrictions distort prices and increase costs for average citizens. A
coffee grower in the mountains of Eastern Cuba should be able to sell his product in the streets of
Havana.
2. Removal of draconian import and export restrictions and tariffs. The state currently holds a
monopoly on foreign trade in the island and Cubans who want to start their own businesses are
prohibited from freely buying and selling goods with buyers and sellers outside the country. This
increases costs, contributes to scarcity of goods, and restricts economic growth.

Teaching Self And Core Values Of Teaching Personal And...
Teaching personal and social responsibility (TPSR) is a lifelong journey. One can never fully
achieve the ultimate goal of becoming personally and socially responsible as it s always
expanding. TPSR is built upon the foundation of putting kids first, human decency, holistic self
development, and as Nick Forsberg said a way of being (19). It is important for a teacher to put
aside personal goals and achievements to focus on the students. The students well being and
personal growth must be the focal point. Along with these important core values TPSR is
structured around a five level system. The first two level are considered a beginner level of TPSR

Persuasive Essay On Colon Cancer
Colonoscopy: Your Colon Cancer Fighter At one time or another, you will most likely get a
colonoscopy. It s not going to be necessarily enjoyable, but it is preventing you from getting colon
cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer deaths. Furthermore, this year it s expected to claim
the lives of nearly 50,000 people in the United States. All for something that is largely preventable
if you take the right action!
Colonoscopies are the most common way to detect colon cancer. Therefor doctors recommend
regular screening tests every 10 years, but people with higher risk, such as a family history with
the disease or old age may need to go in more frequently. Normally people should begin
screenings at age 50 but people with an increased risk or signs of symptoms, should talk to their
doctor about the best plan. Consequently, most people don t think they need to go in because
they don t show any symptoms, it s money for something they probably don t even have, or they
think since no one else in their family has had it, their safe, but they re actually excuses for
something that could help save you from the grueling pains of colon cancer. For those of you, I

The Use Of Media And Media During The French Revolution
Media and propaganda have helped establish free societies, overthrow governments, and incite wars
throughout history. Revolutionaries utilized each to inspire and unite the populace during the
French Revolution. Persuasive newspapers and pamphlets featured opinion pieces that convinced
commoners of the drastic economic, social, and political changes needed to improve their quality of
life, role in society and potential for social advancement. Revolutionaries used art in museums and
mass distributed prints as propaganda to rally the masses with nationalistic themes of heroism,
martyrdom and the power of the people. Music and festivals also contributed by infusing the masses
with passion to unite against the monarchy and fight for the revolution. The use of media and
propaganda in the French Revolutionsystematically distributed revolutionary ideas to the people
and drastically altered the course of the movement.
The French Revolution officially began in 1789, but the monarchy made a series of disastrous
earlier decisions which created the perfect conditions for the movement to thrive and engulf the
country in chaos. King Louis XVI dedicated funds to assist the American colonists in their fight for
independence against the British. While the French succeeded in their goal, the war left France
with a depleted treasury. Peasants became dissatisfied with the government after a series of
droughts and poor harvests. Tensions were further inflamed by the high taxes the monarchy

The Seventh Man Is Wrong Essay
Imagine being responsible for your best friend s death. Along with the seventh man, this is how
a lot of survivors that have been through traumatic experiences feel. Blameworthiness, here,
depends on the idea that a person could have done something other than he did. And so he is
held responsible or accountable, by himself or others. (The Moral Logic of Survivor s Guilt).
The Seventh Man spent 40 years of his life living with survivor s guilt for what happened to K.
In order to accept the reality of what happened on the day of the typhoon, the seventh man must
forgive himself for not being able to save K. I m getting out of here! I yelled to K. He was
maybe ten yards down the beach, squatting with his back to me, and looking at something. I was
sure I had yelled loud enough, but my voice did not seem to have reached him. (The Seventh
Man). The Seventh Man should stop blaming himself for what happened to K, because he made an
attempt to get K s attention before the wave came. Even though he could get K. to safety in time,
he still yelled for him to get off the beach. The seventh man wasn t only... Show more content on

with my parents to let me move to another town. I couldn t go on living in sight of the beach

Analysis Of Words I Never Said By Lupe Fiasco
One of the many contentious issues raised and attacked in Words I Never Said by Lupe Fiasco
is the issue of America s war on terror, claiming that the idea of terror is used as a front to
dominate the Middle East for political and economical reasons, decreasing civil liberties and
controlling the world s supply of oil. This view is one held by millions, claiming that such force
isn t needed to weed out a flimsy opposition. A radical theory held by some is addressed a few
lines later, asking if it was the US government that orchestrated 9/11. Although I disagree with this
claim that it was an inside job, I do believe that the grief and fear of the American people was
falsely harnessed and targeted to spread America s dominance across the globe,

My Note On My Mother Gift
My Mothers Gift
Without the ability to read and comprehend information society as we know it would begin to
become stagnant and our ability to progress in thought and philosophy would be abated.
Fortunately the gift of reading was given to me at a young age. It began with me being taught to
comprehend uncomplicated text and through practice and patience over time evolved into more
sophisticated pieces of literature. The importance of reading and comprehending information was
instilled in me by mother. Specifically, one time she sat me down and explained why she did what
she did in regards to having me read and be quizzed on additional material given by her in
conjunction to my normal schooling. Her impactful explanation has shaped my ... Show more

Now I feel as though it cannot be stressed enough the enormous benefits and advantages I have
received by listening to my mom that day. My capability to read and comprehend a diverse
amount of material can be traced back to her essentially convincing me to buy into what she was
saying. For me learning to read effectively at a young age has proven to be one of the most
invaluable skills I could have ever attained and has shaped who I am today. Once you learn to
read, you will be forever free (Frederick Douglass). The liberating power one attains when you
learn to read and process an array of information is second to none. This was somewhat of a
difficult concept for eight year old me to understand, however, my mom sat me down and
explained to me what she meant. She said that those who have the ability to read effectively
have opportunities that are only available to individuals who possess that skill. She then turned
into the equivalent of a car salesman and began to list off the numerous benefits of being a
competent reader. After about five minutes of what felt like her rambling on and on about
reading benefits I was ready to fall asleep. Picking up on this she gave me a personal narrative,
Personally [Austen] I have found that over time the more effective of a reader I have become my

Why Churchill Ordered The Attack
Evidence that Churchill ordered the attack because of this belief can be traced back to the
aftermath of when Germany invaded France. To illustrate, preparations by the British Prime
Minister and other British officials to ensure that no enemy forces took hold of the French fleet
occurred before the signing of the Franco German armistice on June 22, 1940. On the days leading
up to the signing of the armistice between France and Germany, Churchill was determined to block
any opportunity for Germany to take control of the French Fleet.2 He even proposed that if the
French leaders granted Britain possession of the fleet, he would excuse France s failure to abide by
the pact the nation signed with Britain, which demanded that France and Britain

Temple University Reflection
As I prepare for a 10 year Temple University Reunion. I think about all I have accomplished since
my 4 years as a Temple owl. I owe great gratitude to Temple university for the great character
building , innovative teaching, and family life preparing classes that have helped me become the
man I am to today.
A Bachelor in Communication was greatly vital on the path to becoming a Director of
communications for Apple. It was long road getting where I am today, but the great character
building lessons I took with me from Temple Universitymade each road block I faced more
conquerable. At times I even look back on the person I was before attending Temple university. A

Being part of this new generation is quite helpful but not enough. The innovative ways of
teaching learned at Temple University made this quest a completable one. My former professors
and counselors always looked for new ways to help a student. At times the teaching techniques
used were so contrast compared to well known ways, but also positively effective. Each time I
gave a speech on a new idea I thought back on how my professors would have handled it and I
always impress the company. My life as an Apple employee is filled with many things I
appreciate each day, but my greatest blessing is at home. Coming home each day to two beautiful
daughters Shelly and Caroline is a feeling that cannot be replaced. They are so much alike but
also different that makes being a father so much more interesting. Growing up I have never saw
myself as a father but the family life classes from Temple University changed my life so much that
being a father is an accomplishment I am greatly proud

How Is Rip Van Winkle A Hero
Rip Van Winkle is an ineffectual male hero who cannot support his farm or family. Instead of
facing the consequences of his idleness and facing his wife, who certainly makes the problem
worse instead of better, he sleeps for twenty years. Finally, he is of such an age that his idleness
is excusable and allowed. This makes him an antithesis to the American dream. He has no
ambition, he does not work hard for himself, and he does not rise above where he began. He just
likes to chat and have friends. He also sleeps through what was the defining moment of American
history, and upon waking, he does not even care. This develops him as the American anti hero,
for he takes no part in the country s founding or history. His story makes sense as more of an Old
World story, one that the Dutch settlers, in their relatively old village, can retell. The story also
shows that great historical events are often less important than the daily happenings in an individual
s life. The only oppressor Rip Van Winkle

nevertheless deserved. He has completely failed in his role as husband, father, and breadwinner,
leaving his family in near ruin. The husband is an extreme form of deadbeat and the wife an
extreme form of nagging, a state of affairs which appears to be a lesson and warning for Irving s
male and female readers alike. The husbands should learn to be more industrious and attentive, and
the wives should learn to be less antagonistic and more understanding lest they drive their husbands

For the solutions, identify the solute and the solvent.
a)Cloudy pond water heterogeneous mixture, this is because it is cloudy, solute is dirt particles in
the water there is clay and humus.
b)Apple juice is a homogeneous solution, water is the solvent there are organic acids, sugars and
gums
c)Rain water is a homogeneous mixture, rainwater is nearly a distilled water. The mixture is not
cloudy and no separate particles are visible.
d)14 karat gold in jewelry homogeneous mixture, in this case the gold is the solvent, as it is 14
parts gold, and pure gold is 24 karat leaving the other 10 parts of other metals. Gold is the solvent
and the other metals are the solutes in this case.
43. which of the following substances is or are likely to be very soluble in water? Explain your
reasoning.
a)Gasoline (octane, C8H18) is not soluable, this is because gas is not polar.
b)Methanol (CH3OH) is the most soluable, it will make a solution with water. This is due to the
OH for H bonding, the polarity of the molecule and the size being the smallest alcohol.
c)Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) is very highly soluble in water because of the CO3 2 , polarity, and
the high ionic character of the bond.

Positive Effects Of Corporal Punishment
Corporal punishment is physical infliction used as a form of discipline that is often practiced on
children. It is used for children to experience pain without causing injuries. The use of corporal
punishment is typically intended to minimize or correct negative behaviors. Common acts of
corporal punishment can include spankingand/or slapping. According to Straus and Mouradian
(2016), one third of parents use corporal punishmentas their primary choice of discipline.
Externalizing behaviors, such as aggressionand attention problems, can be seen as negative or
undesirable behaviors that parents tend to address and correct immediately. Unfortunately, corporal
punishment is not an effective form of discipline, but it instead increases the likelihood of
developing externalizing behaviors. There has been extensive research done that supports the idea
of corporal punishment leading to externalizing behaviors in children. In a study of two hundred
and eighteen children, researchers found that higher levels of corporal punishment were directly
associated with higher levels of externalizing behaviors (Mendez, Durtschi, Neppl, Stith, 2016).
Another study in Santiago, Chile, nine hundred and nineteen adolescents also reported having
higher externalizing behaviors due to corporal punishment (Ma, Han, Grogan Kaylor, Delva,
Castillo, 2012). Within the study of nine hundred and nineteen adolescents, researchers used the
Externalizing YSR Problem Scale to measure the externalizing

Essay on Justice in A View from the Bridge
Justice in A View from the Bridge
Arthur Miller is now regarded as one of the world s greatest dramatists. In his plays he explores the
struggles of the ordinary man against authority and insurmountable odds.
Miller s own struggle therefore with this issue is present in A View from the Bridge as he, like the
characters in his plays (such as
Eddie Carbone), was faced with the problem of choosing to be American or not, specifically by
naming names of people who were doing (what were considered then) unlawful acts. Miller chose to
write about a community that accepted and protected unlawful people.

Although
Alfieri knows what will happen to Eddie, his function in the play makes him so powerless to stop
it . His function doesn t allow him to do more than observe.
Alfieri
establishes that justice and the law are going to be important in the play in his opening speech. He
sets the story that he is going to tell us in the context of history, both ancient and modern. In Sicily,
from where their fathers came, the law has not been a friendly idea since the Greeks were beaten. I
only came here when I was twenty five.
In those days, Al Capone, the greatest Carthaginian of all, was learning his trade on these
pavements, and Frankie Yale himself was cut precisely in half by a machine gun on the corner of
Union Street, two blocks away.
The fact that Alfieri goes on to state that lawyers in ancient times, as well as he in modern times,
were unable to prevent a complaint running a bloody course causes us to question the power and
influence of the law. In other words, although justice is very important, often the law as it stands
is incapable of delivering justice. Alfieri believes that it is best to settle for half : it is better to rely
on written law as far as possible and accept it even when you are only half satisfied. The written
law may not always act in favour of justice yet it is better to follow the law than to

Duckweed Are Magnificent Aquatic Plants
Duckweed are flowering aquatic plants which float on or just beneath the surface of still or slow
moving bodies of fresh water and wetlands (Sheh May 2004). Botanists classify them as a separate
family, Lemnaceae. These plants are simple in structure by lacking a visible stem or leaves. The
larger part of each plantis a small prearranged thallus or frond structure that is only a few cells
thick. These contain air pockets made of a spongey tissue called aerenchyma that allows the plant
to float on top of or just beneath the surface of the water (Sculthorpe 1984). Reproduction is done
primarily by asexual budding. This occurs at the base of the frond where the meristem is enclosed.

to have any effect. There would be limiting nutrients within the solution and therefore would have a

Timothy Tebow Reflection
Now, Timothy Tebow isn t a regular author, instead of telling non fiction stories, he worked to
write inspiring messages that uplifted the people around him ( Through). After he found
direction in his life again, he became so excited that he couldn t keep this wisdom to himself. So
how did he let the world know to never give up? In 2011 he released his first book titled Through
My Eyes ( Through). It would be in this book where Tebow would discuss everything about his
life in a very unique way. In Through My Eyes, Tebow would discuss everything about his life
up to that point, but that is not the main purpose of this story ( Through). It s within this
autobiography that he would discuss: religion, not giving up on life, how everyone is worth
more than they think, and to not give up on oneself when everyone else has ( Through). Tebow
would use his awesome literary skills to uplift and inspire everyone around him, rather than just
telling a simple story that not everyone may care about ( Through). It is in this manner that Tim
Tebow can gain a following where he can spread the good word of Jesus Christ and to let
everyone know that they are not alone in this world. In 2012, Tim Tebow was dropped by the
Jets and that was pretty much the end of his football career. For the next four years, Tebow would
go on to do missionary work to spread the word about his Lord and Savior. Along with this, he
would also make appearances on ESPN to do guest broadcasts and such.

  • 3. Tropical Rainforest Case Study Reading #1: 1)Rainforests get swallowed by farms in Brazil Description The photographs compare the same rainforest at different times. One is taken in 1975, the photo appears to be mostly green. The other taken in 2008 is very different with lots of cleared out light areas where trees once stood. When compared the photos look as though they could be taken in two different places because the area has changed so much. Opinion The difference is amazing, the difference in greenery i imagine means a growth in the population which is why more area is being cleared out for farmland. The change is not necessarily bad for the environment in term of plant growth, because the people are after all planting new crops and improving the soil. Although it is bad for the former habitats for many animals have lost their homes by clearing the trees and small shrubs in the forest. 2) Cancun expands at stunning rate Description The two pictures compare the city of Cancun, Mexico at two points in time. The photo on the right which is taken in 1979 shows an area of green land with several grey settlements and man made building on it. The photo on the left taken in 2009 shows the same spot but instead of several small plots, one large grey development. Which we can assume is an area that is dry and does not have much greenery. The second after photo shows the same plot of land but it now is much greener with darker brown spots which can show that the soil there has gotten wet and darker. I have four siblings , two sisters and two brothers, whos ages ranged from 10 17 when I was born. For years to come they woild teach me many skills, some which would help me later on. I was a very shy child but I kept myself busy with my studies . I was well spoken and well read(according to my parents) and when I started school I could spell 3 syllable words. Other things I was taught at a youngs age, mainly by my siblings, were things as in how to play sports, skip stones, and tasks like sewing and cooking. My parents had hopes that over time I would become less shy, but when I wtill avoided things such as public speaking they sent me to boarding school. These were some of the worst weeks of my life. I became so sick I stopped talking and eating all together. Once my parents realized their plan did not work I was taken back home. • 5. Satirical Techniques Used In Andy Weir s The Martian Andy Weir never meant for his book to become a smashing hit turned into a movie. The Martian takes place on the planet Mars with astronaut Mark Watney stranded on the deserted planet. Mark has a hole in his stomach, no communication with NASA, is left with no choice rationing his food to save his life. In this edge of your seat story, Andy Weir uses suspense as well as humor to make living on Marsseem a little more bearable. Andy Weir originally wrote the novelThe Martian for his science blog readers with added elements of humor + suspense to create an award winning novel. Before becoming a bestselling author, Andy Weir was just a science blogger who wrote The Martian for his science blog readers, andnever dreamed of his novel evening going... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another instance in which Weir blends suspense into his writing is: Potatoes are now extinct on Mars. (Weir 171). When the hab blows up, Marks potatoes were exposed to the frigid temperatures of Mars, in which they almost immediately shrivel up and die. This is showing how one little thing gone wrong results in chain event that doesn t end well. The book would be very predictable and boring without the element of suspense. By creating this bestselling novel, Andy Weir has set up a formula for any science fictionnovel to be written with his incorporation of sarcasm with the added sense of fear. Weir was a child raised under two science involved parents, so it s no wonder where he got the inspiration from. By using sarcasm, Weir developed a sort of Watney style of humor. The reader doesn t just see it as joking. Humor is one of the main things that keeps Mark alive. By keeping the readers on the edge of their seat with twists and turns no one saw coming, it s hard to find a chance to set this book down! Because The Martian is such a enthralling novel, Weir could be on the way to writing another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Gothic Literature Art has no influence upon action. It annihilates the desire to act. It is superbly sterile. The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame. The similarities and differences between Doctor Faustus, a play by Christopher Marlowe, and The Picture of Dorian Gray, a novel by Oscar Wilde, are pronounced and characterized by their underlying gothic theme. These can be seen all throughout both forms of literature, including in both character s demise through plot progression and internal struggles. One way in which both Faustus and Dorian are alike is that they both sold their soul in a way. Faustus was able to get Mephistophilis, a demon, to do for him, and bring him whatsoever (1141 Doctor Faustus). Dorian was able to make portrait s appearance change, instead of his own. As his soul would get more and more ugly and twisted, it would get represented by his portrait. In this sense, both faustus and Dorian gave their true soul in return for something else. For Faustus, he sold it for power. He felt like he knew everything and he just needed more power. He sold his soul to the devil for that. Dorion on the other hand, sold his soul simply for means appearance. How he looked was so important to him, he decided he had to keep his pretty perfect boy look. He felt as if this... In Dorian s case however, selling of his soul was done much less organized, Dorian simply makes a wish, If it were I who was to be always young and the picture was to grow old! (31 Dorian Gray). There is an example of the Inca civilisation where there were 200 spanish soldiers against 50,000 Inca warriors. The Spanish soldiers terrorised the native Americans by firing their rifles. Which caused the natives to believed that the soldiers could create thunder. Crossbows were also used but uncommon because they were slow to load and could malfunction easily. • 8. The Choices Among Model Assessment Statistics Compare and contrast the choices amongst model assessment statistics There are two factors that determine the appropriate validation assessment rating or assessment statistics. Firstly the target measurement scale and secondly the prediction type. For a binary target with a primary outcome(target=1) and secondary outcome(target=0) there are three types of prediction types a.) decisions b.) ranking and c.) estimates. When the prediction type is decision for a binary target, it works to match the primary decision with the primary outcome yielding a correct decision called as true positive and matches the secondary decision with the secondary outcome yielding a correct decision called as true negative. In this case the decision predictions are rated by their accuracy in other words in order to maximize accuracy there should be agreement between the outcome and prediction. Also, when the secondary decision mismatches with the primary outcome it yields an incorrect decision called as false negative. Similarly, when primary decision mismatches with secondary outcome it yields an incorrect decision called as false positive. In this case the decision predictions can be rated by their misclassification rate wherein to minimize misclassification there should be very less disagreement between the actual outcome and predictions. In ranking predictions, the cases are ranked based on their likelihood of being a primary or secondary outcome. When the primary and secondary cases are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Moral Panic According to Stanley Cohen (1972, pg. 9), moral panics occur when a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests , and is useful for explaining the hysteria in Western society towards the pandemic of HIV/AIDS. Sociologists argue that there was a social construction around it s meaning and the way in which it was perceived caused by an apparent social anxiety or prejudice against homosexuals and other minority groups. This essay will attempt to recognise the definition of moral panics and its application to HIV/AIDS and its social construction. Simon Watney ([1988] cited in Moral Panics and the Media, 2006, p. 251 252) argues that in the example of AIDS posed a significant challenge to any moral panic model . He proposed five major criticisms: firstly, he argues that moral panics place blame on the state as a prime mover in moral panics. Whilst this may lend itself to be true in the case of the U.K. government, it does not consider that British society was naturally prejudice against the minority groups inflicted by the virus before its arrival. Thus, the campaign to warn the public on the virus did not directly influence the public into a moral panic but was instead a factor. Secondly, a model which separates out individual moral panics cannot appreciate how they may overlap and reinforce each other . Thirdly, it does not recognise the significance of dominant discourse. During the 1980s, Britain had already gained a significant prejudice against these minority groups as mentioned above and thus it may not be useful to describe the pandemic as a moral panic as the dominant discourse of society at that time was naturally homophobic and racist. Therefore, it can be argued that HIV/AIDS only heightened the social anxiety of, for example, gay people, because the anxiety was already in place. The fourth criticism to be made by Watney (1988) is that the theory does not allow for folk devils resisting the status. Folk devils are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States is the only industrialized major nation in the world without health care, and the debate about changing that has become a popular issue recently. The sharp difference between the two sides is a difference in ethical values; those for universal health caredesire to see the government help others, mainly the lower class, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue taking advantage of the status quo for profit. Private insurance companies can inflate the price of their service if they desire. A universal healthcare system prevents that because it is run by the government.[2] I personally understand health care cost, and spending is a major concern for our society. Many governments around the world have established all embracing health care, which takes the burden of health care expenses off of private businesses or individuals through pooling of financial possibility. There are tons of arguments for universal health care, and related health care practices. Health care is an important part of health systems, and therefore, it often accounts for one of the largest areas of high spending for both governments and individuals all over the world. For example, medical debt is now a leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. A policy should be created to help lower the cost of health care.2 One way that would help improve health care spending is to create a universal health care to make sure everyone is covered. By creating this, it will help decrease the number of lobbyers which in turn will cut government funding to those special interest groups. There are 45 million Americans uninsured and according to CNN report, 45,000 Americans die each year due to lack of affordable health care. So by creating a universal health care system, we can be sure to expect to see a longer lifespan for our population as is the case in countries that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Second World War resulted to the great depressionand economy collapsed in many countries in the world. Wartime expenditure resulted to mobilization of countries funds and human resources, this resulted intervention in the economy that induced inflation. In Canada s government responded in control of labor in quest of collective bargaining and huge wages which counted the rising popularity in legitimate demands of organized labor in order to access guaranteed collective bargaining. The American Counseling Attitudes and Beliefs Revisited The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics (2014) requires counselors to respect and promote client autonomy, and withhold imposing their personal values onto client. This is particularly difficult when counselors hold deep beliefs that are fundamentally opposed to client s goals. The ACA code of ethics (2014) states that the primary goal of counseling is ...to respect the dignity and promote the welfare of clients (1.A.1). Secondly I realized if I rejected working with a gay or lesbian couple on the basis that I objected to their lifestyle, logic then dictates that I approve of the lifestyle of all the other clients with whom I work. Additionally, I realize that I have a particular aversion to working with gay or lesbian couples (as opposed to couples who are living together), and this is also an area that I am currently addressing. In conclusion, I recognize that my job as a counselor involves respecting the role and the duties it entails. I would feel more uncomfortable working with this set of clients, however I believe I would still be able to do my job well. It is the duty of the pastor and the evangelists to promote what the Bible says about marriage and family, and it is my duty to ethically perform my job and trust that God will us it for His glory. Book Report On The Future Of The Internet Book Report of The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It In the computer and technology book The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It , the author Jonathan L. Zittrain (2008, April 20) wants to alarm us that the internet world which we think is totally open and ruled by the users all over the world is actually controlled by some particular big companies and institutions. The openness and creativity of the Internet is a double edged sword. Under the cover of a bloomed and wonderful development, today s environment of the Internet is in danger. He suggests that more efficient methods and stricter requirements should be carried out to standardize the industry of the Internet. Mr. Zittrain writes the book in the way that associating today s problems of the Internet with the history of the computer field. Since the beginning of the propitious world, the core aspect that keeps it thriving is the propensity for people to discover innovations; however, progress of the past is, systematically, detrimental to the future. Not long after the revolutionary invention of the X ray in the late 19th Century, an unprecedented number of medical examiners noticed (unknown to the time) radiation burns all over their body; decades later, an extraordinary surge in cancer cases had arisen. Perhaps, during the course of these years, scientists and researchers desired to further progress the x ray (into the immense subsidiaries that are here today), and disregarded any flaws in the apparatus. Diagnostic radiology has evolved into being the foundation of medical institutions across the nation; yet, with more and more pediatric patients needing a radiographic image, there are greater risks of calamities. Shortly after the 20th century X ray scare was resolved, hospitals nation wide used the state of the art machine to diagnose broken bones, teeth snags, infections, and even certain cancers. Along with new medical standards and safety measures, followers of Wilhelm RГ¶ntgen (the inventor of the X ray) discovered the properties of X radiation (Hart 48 50). Being close to gamma rays on the electromagnetic spectrum, X radiation fully penetrates the human body, and since they are produced from a changing nucleus, they are able to affect and change the nucleus (cells) of the absorbing matter (Cancer 1 4; Burrill (2) 59 62). Oftentimes, the radiographer will not line up the machine correctly with the organ, tissue, or bone in question and, therefore, will tell the patient they must retake the image. One X ray of the midsection is equal to three full days of background radiation (Hart 50). Radiologic technologists do not keep records of patients prior radiation exposure so it is up to them to discuss (with a general practitioner) and know their limits (Choy 88). A ... Noise is considered to be the number one limiting factor of CT image quality. A novel decision based filter , called the wavelet based multiple thresholds switching (WMTS) filter, is used to restore images corrupted by salt pepper impulse noise. The filter is based on a detection estimation strategy. The salt and pepper noise detection algorithm is used before the filtering process, and therefore only the noise corrupted pixels are replaced with the estimated central noise free ordered mean value in the current filter window. The new impulse detector, which uses multiple thresholds with multiple neighborhood information of the signal in the filter window, is very precise, while avoiding an undue increase in ... Another misconception I had was that gangsters/mobsters controlled only corrupt policemen and judges when in fact, they controlled people at all levels of the government, occasionally even the president. Important characters like president James K. Their strongest relationships though, were with the police force. Becoming a policeman was encouraged by the White Anglo Saxon Protestants because who better to take on the dangerous, low paying job than a Paddy? (61) And so, Irishmen who often had grown up with famous mobsters ended up as the majority of the police force; mobsters not only gained more power in the local area due to this, but the stage was now set for corruption at all levels as well. In addition to the educational facts, I also learned some neat fun facts about gangsters and their traditions. Old Smoke Morrissey was the first true Irish Mob Boss, and as such he was the one who established the looks, desires, and attitude that we derive our stereotypes from. Summary Of The Marginal World By Rachel Carson Andrew Han 10/24/2015 TLIT 437: Nature and Environment in American Literature Ellen Bayer Conversation Essay As reading this journal the topic that has come to my attention is how a lot of these nature writers are looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most of these shorts journals are looking at nature for not only for what it is, but what it offers, for example in the short The Marginal World written by Rachel Carsonshe portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an earth and sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each time that I enter it, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper meanings, sensing that intricate fabric of life by which one creature is linked with another, and each with its surroundings. (481). Based off this quote, we can see that a lot of these authors did not only see nature as something that could be touched, but rather seen as a spiritual entity. For me I believe the title The Marginal World was clarified in the first part of the essayby the historic war even between both surfaces the wave and the land. She viewed both landscapes as both spiritual entities. When she talks about how the waves would always withdrawal, but never gave up, how the boundary of the sea was indescribable, this showed us how much Rachel Carson adored the ocean. It seemed ... • 30. Aristotle s Views On Human Happiness 2 PURPOSE OF HAPPINESS For Aristotle, happiness was related to a natural function. He argued that if we as human fulfilled our natural function/purpose then we will be able to be happy and want for nothing at all (page 91). Aristotle believed that human happiness refers to the function most proper to the human should and essentially the function must be exclusive to human. He argues that this supposed function is a practical aspect of life that comes from the rational part within humans. The use of the term practical suggests that there is a predetermined conduct which comes as a result of having rational capabilities. This ultimate good of an individual should stem from this and therefore naturally flow from performing your function to a high standard. In order to attain true happiness, this must be repeated throughout one s life. Aristotle s view can be considered to be flawed as he says that only human beings can fully use reason or be described truly happy as happiness derives from reasoning. He argues that the distinction between human beings and animals is due to human capability to perform certain actions that only human beings can perform due to having reason. However, in the instance of a young child who is not yet able to reason, Aristotle s statements are highly problematic. Can we really say that it is incapable for a child to experience true happiness? Admittedly they may not experience happiness in a similar way but, nevertheless one could argue that it is ... There are a few explanations why felines are favored over canines in the US. Felines are the superior petover canines by population because cats cost the owner less money than dogs do, they do not need too much for their maintenance, they do not depend the owner as much as dogs do, and are usually healthier and have a longer life span. The first reason why cats are the better pet over dogs is because cats cost less to maintain as far as yearly and medical costs. The yearly cost for cats is around $450 which is significantly different from the $660 yearly cost for a dogs ( Cat vs Dog ). Bottom line, dogs are one and a half times more costly than the typical yearly cost for a cat. The Cuban socioeconomics follow that of other Communist cultures for example the Soviet Union, where the government is in control all parts of its citizen s way of life. In most recent years, Raul Castro has setup many reforms that benefit the people. The reforms are: 1. Removal of internal restrictions on the movement of people and goods within Cuba. As things currently stand, people within Cuba are not allowed to freely trade goods and products from one province to another. These restrictions distort prices and increase costs for average citizens. A coffee grower in the mountains of Eastern Cuba should be able to sell his product in the streets of Havana. 2. It is used for children to experience pain without causing injuries. The use of corporal punishment is typically intended to minimize or correct negative behaviors. Common acts of corporal punishment can include spankingand/or slapping. According to Straus and Mouradian (2016), one third of parents use corporal punishmentas their primary choice of discipline. Externalizing behaviors, such as aggressionand attention problems, can be seen as negative or undesirable behaviors that parents tend to address and correct immediately. Unfortunately, corporal punishment is not an effective form of discipline, but it instead increases the likelihood of developing externalizing behaviors. There has been extensive research done that supports the idea of corporal punishment leading to externalizing behaviors in children. In a study of two hundred and eighteen children, researchers found that higher levels of corporal punishment were directly associated with higher levels of externalizing behaviors (Mendez, Durtschi, Neppl, Stith, 2016). In Sicily, from where their fathers came, the law has not been a friendly idea since the Greeks were beaten. I only came here when I was twenty five. In those days, Al Capone, the greatest Carthaginian of all, was learning his trade on these pavements, and Frankie Yale himself was cut precisely in half by a machine gun on the corner of Union Street, two blocks away. In other words, although justice is very important, often the law as it stands is incapable of delivering justice.
