3.  As baby boomers continue to age the need for
community based services and programs will need to
increase with the growing population of older adults
aged 60 and older.
 Projected population for individuals aged 60 and older
will be 92.2 million in 2030.(AoA, 2008).
 Projected population for individuals aged 65 and older
will be 71.5 million in 2030 and will grow to 86.7
million by 2050.(AoA, 2008).

United States will present challenges to policy makers
and programs, such as Social Security and
Medicare.(Ortman, Velkoff, & Hogan, 2014)
 Among community based older persons with higher
levels of health and financial literacy were associated
with better decision making. (James, Boyle, Bennett &
Bennett, 2012).
 Improvements in literacy could facilitate better
decision making and lead to better health and quality
of life in later years.(James, Boyle, Bennett & Bennett,
2012).

6.  Technology is constantly changing and can be difficult
for older persons to keep up on those changes.
 To assist the older person classes can be offered
through the community at the local high school or at
the local library.

211, and many other services for assistance.

better decision making for older persons.
 Higher frequency of internet use is associated with
better health and financial decision making in older
persons.(James, Boyle, Yu & Bennett, 2013).

13.  It will be important for lawmakers within their own
communities and nationally to seek funding to have
programs for community- based services and
education. Funding and proper management of the
funds will be extremely important to maintain the
programs that exist.

14.  US Census Bureau predicts by 2050, there will be no
ethnic majority group
 The older population will become more racially and
ethnically diverse and the Asian and Hispanic
population will double.(Ortman, Velkoff, & Hogan,
2014)
 Diversity must be accounted for in planning programs
for the older adult population to make them
successful.

15.  We will need to focus our attention on areas
pertinent to the well-being of the adult population
such as work and retirement, social networks,
neighborhood, discrimination, health disparities,
long-term care, physical functioning, caregiving,
housing, and end-of-life care.(Baker, 2014)
