Matt 11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom
of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
Matt 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say,
Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friendof publicans and
sinners. But wisdom is justifiedof her children.
Matt 11:23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exaltedunto heaven, shalt be
brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in
thee, had been done in Sodom, it wouldhave remaineduntil this day.
Matt 11:25 At that time Jesus answeredand said, I thank thee, O Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise
and prudent, and hast revealedthem unto babes.
The kingdom rejected:
Matt 11
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you
rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly
in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and
my burden is light.
“If a mountain was not rough you could not climb it.”
Matthew
12:1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his
disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
2. “corn”-John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall
into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth
much fruit.
Gen 41:5-6 5 And he slept and dreamedthe second time: and,
behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good. 6
And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung
up after them.
Mark 4:26-29 26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man
should cast seed into the ground; 27 And should sleep, and rise night
and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not
how. 28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade,
then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. 29 But when the fruit is
brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the
harvest is come.
Mark 4:23-24 23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. 24 And
he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye
mete, it shall be measuredto you: and unto you that hear shall more
be given.
Deut 23:25 When thou comest into the standingcorn of thy
neighbour, then thou mayest pluck the ears with thine hand; but thou
shalt not move a sickle unto thy neighbour's standingcorn.
12:2 But when the Pharisees saw [it], they said unto him, Behold, thy
disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
12:3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read12:5,Act 2:29-30,the law and the Prophets
Mat 11:13
what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with
him;
Popular opinionof “truth” mustbe confronted by Scripture.
Titus 1:10-11 10 For there are many unrulyand vain talkers and
deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: 11 Whose mouths
3. must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teachingthings which
they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
12:4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the showbread,
which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him,
but only for the priests?
v.3,4) Christ chose this event because David was a type of Christ and because of the set
up of the tabernacle (Mark 2:25-28). The “shewbread” shows some things:
1. It was cooked daily (God gave Israel a daily provision in the wilderness),
2. There was a Light shining on the bread from the golden candlestick (the Holy
Spirit),
3. There were two rows of six loaves (66 books in your Bible).
…the shew-bread
Exod 25:30; Lev 24:5-9
…but only for the priests.
Exod 29:32-33; Lev 8:31; Lev 24:9
*David was supposed to be on the throne at this time1Sam.15:23, 16:13, but he was not. He
was in exile(1Sam. 21:3); this compares to the fact that Jesus Christ was [is] the King Mal.
1:14, but He was in exile while the devil is ruling the kingdoms (Matt. 4) of the world.
12:5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the
priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
Num 29:32 And on the seventh day seven bullocks, two rams, and
fourteen lambs of the first year without blemish:
John 7:22-23 22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not
because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day
circumcise a man. 23 If a man on the sabbath day receive
circumcision, that the law of Moses shouldnot be broken; are ye
angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the
sabbath day?
12:6 But I say unto you, That in this place is [one] greater than the temple.
12:7 But if ye had known what [this] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not
4. sacrifice, ye would not have condemnedthe guiltless.Judas Iscariot(Mat.27:4), Pilate
(John 18:38, 19:4-6)
The second reference to Hos. 6:6
Hos 6:6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; andthe knowledge of
God more than burnt offerings.
Matt 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy,
and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners
to repentance.
12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Mark
2:23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn fields on the
sabbath day; and his disciplesbegan, as they went, to pluck the ears of
corn.
2:24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath
day that which is not lawful?
2:25 And he said unto them, Have ye never readwhat David did, when he
had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?
2:26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high
priest, and did eat the showbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the
priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
There can be two high priest at the same time (or a primary and
secondaryhigh priest).
1Sam 21:1-2 1 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest:
and Ahimelech was afraidat the meeting of David, and said unto him,
Why art thou alone, and no man with thee? 2 And David said unto
Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and
hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business
whereaboutI send thee, and what I have commandedthee: and I
have appointed my servants to such and such a place.
Jer 52:24 And the captain of the guardtook Seraiah the chief priest,
and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door:
5. Luke 3:2 Annas and Caiaphas beingthe high priests, the word of
God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man
for the sabbath:
2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Exod 23:12 Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day
thou shaltrest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of
thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.
Deut 5:14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God:
in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter,
nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass,
nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy
manservantand thy maidservantmay rest as well as thou.
Ezek 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign
between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that
sanctify them.
Luke
6:1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went
through the corn fields;and his disciplesplucked the ears of corn, and did
eat, rubbing [them] in [their] hands.
6:2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is
not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
6:3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this,
what David did, when himself was an hungered, and they which were with
him;
Lev 5:17 And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are
forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD; though he
wist it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity.
Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because
thou hast rejectedknowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt
6. be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I
will also forget thy children.
Three indictments of ignorance:
“not read “Mat 12:3, 5
“never read” Mark 2:25
“not read so much” Luke 6:3
.
6:4 How he went into the house of God,and did take and eat the
showbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful
to eat but for the priests alone?
6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the
sabbath.
Don’t exalt the blessing of the Lord above the Lord of the blessing.
Mal 2
1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. 2 If ye will not
hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name,
saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will
curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do
not lay it to heart.
