Rom 11:16
16For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if
the root be holy, so are the branches.
The spirit of God given at salvation should work its way to
the outside
John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is
the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he
hath sent.
Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth
on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted
for righteousness.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Rom 11:17
17And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou,
being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and
with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive
tree;
“Some of the branches” refers to Israel in part.
The “wild olive tree” refers to the Gentiles.
“The root” is Jesus Christ.
*Israel as an olive tree: Jeremiah 11:16 ; Isaiah 17:6 ; Judges
9:8-9
Jer 11:16 The LORD called thy name, A green
olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise
of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it,
and the branches of it are broken.
Isa 17:6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as
the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries
in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in
the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the
LORD God of Israel.
Judg 9:8-9 8 The trees went forth on a time to
anoint a king over them; and they said unto the
olive tree, Reign thou over us. 9 But the olive tree
said unto them, Should I leave my fatness,
wherewith by me they honour God and man, and
go to be promoted over the trees?
*Everything that we have as Gentile believers comes from
the blessings of Israel
(Eph. 2:12,19-20).
Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without
Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of
Israel, and strangers from the covenants of
promise, having no hope, and without God in the
world:
Eph 2:19-20 19 Now therefore ye are no more
strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with
the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And
are built upon the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief
corner stone;
Our Saviour is Jewish (Matt. 27:37).
Matt 27:37 And set up over his head his
accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF
THE JEWS.
Our Bible is Jewish with 40-42 Jewish writers (Rom. 3:1-2).
Rom 3:1-2 1 What advantage then hath the
Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2
Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them
were committed the oracles of God.
Our God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that
brought salvation to the Jew first (Rom. 1:16).
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of
Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to
every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also
to the Greek.
Rom 11:18
18Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou
bearest not the root, but the root thee.
Do not boast against Israel because God is still fulfilling
Genesis 12:1-3.
Gen 12:1-3 1 Now the LORD had said unto
Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy
kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land
that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a
great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy
name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I
will bless them that bless thee, and curse him
that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of
the earth be blessed.
Rom 11:19
19Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I
might be graffed in.
Israel has fallen and the Gentiles have risen to favor with
God (Rom11:11 Deut32:20-21 ).
Rom 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that
they should fall? God forbid: but rather through
their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for
to provoke them to jealousy.
Deut 32:20-21 20 And he said, I will hide my
face from them, I will see what their end shall be:
for they are a very froward generation, children in
whom is no faith. 21 They have moved me to
jealousy with that which is not God; they have
provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I
will move them to jealousy with those which are
not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a
foolish nation.
Rom 11:20-21
20Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and
thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed
lest he also spare not thee.
If God broke off His own nation of Israel, then the Gentiles
can fall out of favor with God, too.
At the end of the Church Age, when the Church is raptured
out of the earth, then the Gentiles will fall from favor with
God. Rom 11:21 is primarily a warning to lost Gentiles.

Matt 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest:
and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers,
Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in

gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the
end of this world. 41 The Son of man shall send forth
his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom

Jer 30:11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save
thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I
have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of
thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not
leave thee altogether unpunished.
2Pet 3:15-16 15 And account that the longsuffering
of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother
Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him
hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles,
speaking in them of these things; in which are some
things hard to be understood, which they that are
unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the
other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Paul is the apostle to the Gentiles, if his doctrine is not
understood destruction comes.
Before the Rapture the Gentiles will be cut off 2Thes 2:3-4

2Thess 2:3-4 3 Let no man deceive you by any
means: for that day shall not come, except there come
a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed,
the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth
himself above all that is called God, or that is
worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of
God, shewing himself that he is God.
2Tim 4:3-4 3 For the time will come when they will
not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts
shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching
ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the
truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Rev 3:14-22 14 And unto the angel of the church of
the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen,
the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the
creation of God; 15 I know thy works, that thou art
neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold
nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because
thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and
have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art
wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and
naked: 18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in
the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment,
that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of
thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes
with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I
love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and
repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if
any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will
come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with
me. 21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with
me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set
down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an
ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches.
Rom 11:22
22Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on
them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if
thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt
be cut off.
“Goodness and severity” show that God is balanced.
God loves with perfect love and hates with perfect hatred.
God is love and God is a consuming fire.
*The Gentiles have not continued in His goodness, so God
has begun to cut them off from His favor.
First they were “cutoff” in Europe and the churches are now
monuments and memorials to a time when Christianity was
alive there.
Now the Gentiles are being “cut off” in America due to
compromise and backsliding.
Eventually, the Gentiles will be “cut off” worldwide.
This is not referring to individual salvation, but to the
privileges that go along with loving the word of God and the
Gospel.
Rom 11:23-24
23And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be
graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
24For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by
nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good
olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the
natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
You can graft branches into a tree and the treecan bring forth
two different kinds of fruit.
Israel was the original branches.
We Gentiles were grafted into the tree.
God is saying that when the Gentiles fall away it will be easy
to put the original branches back into the tree.
Rom 11:25
25For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of
this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits;
that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the
fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
The temporary blindness of Israel is a “GreatMystery.” The
blindness is partial because a few Jews still get saved during
the church age.
A Gentile that thinks he has replaced Israel is ignorant and
proud.
*The SEVEN MYSTERIES are:
1. Blindness in part to Israel (Rom. 11:25 ).
Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye
should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should
be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in
part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the
Gentiles be come in.
2. God manifest in the flesh (1 Tim. 3:16 ).
1Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the
mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the
flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels,
preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the
world, received up into glory.
3. Christ in you (Col. 1:27-28 ).
Col 1:27-28 27 To whom God would make
known what is the riches of the glory of this
mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in
you, the hope of glory: 28 Whom we preach,
warning every man, and teaching every man in all
wisdom; that we may present every man perfect
in Christ Jesus:
4. Christ and the Church (Eph. 5:25-32 ).
Eph 5:25-32 25 Husbands, love your wives, even
as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself
for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it
with the washing of water by the word, 27 That
he might present it to himself a glorious church,
not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but
that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So
ought men to love their wives as their own
bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29
For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but
nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the
church: 30 For we are members of his body, of
his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause
shall a man leave his father and mother, and
shall be joined unto his wife, and they two
shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery:
but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
5. Babylon, the Great – The Roman Catholic Church as the
Whore of Revelation (Rev. 17:3-5 ).
Rev 17:3-5 3 So he carried me away in the spirit
into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon
a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of
blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4
And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet
colour, and decked with gold and precious
stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her
hand full of abominations and filthiness of her
fornication: 5 And upon her forehead was a name
written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE
MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF
THE EARTH.
6. The Antichrist – the mystery of iniquity (2 Thess. 2:7-12).
2Thess 2:7-12 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth
already work: only he who now letteth will let,
until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall
that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall
consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall
destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even
him, whose coming is after the working of Satan
with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10
And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness
in them that perish; because they received not
the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong
delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That
they all might be damned who believed not the
truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
7. The Rapture of the Church (1 Corinth. 15:51-55).
1Cor 15:51-55 51 Behold, I shew you a mystery;
We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be
changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an
eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall
sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,
and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible
must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible
shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal
shall have put on immortality, then shall be
brought to pass the saying that is written, Death
is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where
is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Rom 11:26
26And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There
shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn
away ungodlinessfrom Jacob:
The quote is from Isaiah 59:20,21 .
Isa 59:20 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion,
and unto them that turn from transgression in
Jacob, saith the LORD.
Isa 59:21 As for me, this is my covenant with
them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee,
and my words which I have put in thy mouth,
shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the
mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy
seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and
for ever.
This is ALL of the remnant that will survive the Great
Tribulation (Rom. 9:27 ; 11:5 ; Zech. 8:6-15 ).
Rom 9:27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel,
Though the number of the children of Israel
be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be
saved:
Rom 11:5 Even so then at this present time also
there is a remnant according to the election of
grace.
Zech 8:6-15 6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it
be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this
people in these days, should it also be marvellous
in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts. 7 Thus
saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my
people from the east country, and from the west
country; 8 And I will bring them, and they shall
dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be
my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in
righteousness. 9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts;
Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these
days these words by the mouth of the prophets,
which were in the day that the foundation of the
house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the
temple might be built. 10 For before these days
there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast;
neither was there any peace to him that went out
or came in because of the affliction: for I set all
men every one against his neighbour. 11 But
now I will not be unto the residue of this people
as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts. 12
For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall
give her fruit, and the ground shall give her
increase, and the heavens shall give their dew;
and I will cause the remnant of this people to
possess all these things. 13 And it shall come to
pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen,
O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I
save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but
let your hands be strong. 14 For thus saith the
LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when
your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the
LORD of hosts, and I repented not: 15 So again
have I thought in these days to do well unto
Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.
Israel’s national salvation was not at Calvary, but their
salvation will be in the future at the Second Coming of
Christ.
This will take place at the end of the Tribulation Period and
the beginning of the Millennium.
Rom 11:27
27For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take
away their sins.
This has not yet happened.
It is the national salvation and restoration of Israel.
New Covenant:

Deut 30:4-6 4 If any of thine be driven out unto

good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. 6 And

Jer 32:37-42 37 Behold, I will gather them out

be my people, and I will be their God: 39 And I
will give them one heart, and one way, that they

everlasting covenant with them, that I will not

Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will

Rom 11:28
28As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your
sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for
the fathers' sakes.
The Calvinist thinks the word “election” always refers to
salvation and saved people.
This system is proven to be faulty in this verse.
Unsaved Jews were elected by God and called “theelection.”
They are also called “enemies” of the Gospel.
They are lost, but they are called “the elect.”
Rom 11:29
29For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
God will keep the promises that He made to Abraham, but a
lot of time will pass between the making of the promise and
the fulfilling of the promise.
Rom 11:30
30For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have
now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
In the OT, the Gentiles did not believe in the true God. They
worshipped idols. We obtained mercy through the unbelief
of the Jews.

Rom 11:31-32
31Even so have these also now not believed, that through

God wants all men to receive mercy (2 Peter 3:9 ).
2Pet 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his

33O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and
knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments,

God’s ways are higher than our ways and what He has
prepared for those of us that are saved is more wonderful
than we can imagine (Job 5:9 ; 11:7 ; Psalm 145:3 ; Is. 55:8-
9 ; Eph. 3:8).

God has given man everything that man has. God owes man
NOTHING. Man owes God EVERYTHING. You cannot
out give God. Whatever you give to God will always be
returned with more added to it (Luke 6:38 ; Malachi 3:8-11
). You are not a disciple of Christ if you are not a generous
giver. Jesus Christ GAVE HIMSELF for you to be saved.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you;
good measure, pressed down, and shaken
together, and running over, shall men give into
your bosom. For with the same measure that ye
mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Mal 3:8-11 8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have
robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed
thee? In tithes and offerings. 9 Ye are cursed with
a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole
nation. 10 Bring ye all the tithes into the
storehouse, that there may be meat in mine
house, and prove me now herewith, saith the
LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows
of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that
there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11
And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
and he shall not destroy the fruits of your

Rom 11:36
36For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things:

“to him” – Give your ALL to Him.
All that you are and all that you have belong to God.
He is deserving and faithful to repay you (Rom11:35 ).
Rom 11:35 Or who hath first given to him, and it
shall be recompensed unto him again?
Rom 12:1
1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,
that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
“Therefore” is referring back to Rom11:35 and the fact that
God will recompense or repay the man that gives to Him.
*Salvation is NOT “giving your life to the Lord” or the Lord
“coming into your life.”
Salvation is trusting Christ to save your soul from hell and
He comes into your BODY!
After salvation, you present your body as a living sacrifice
to God.
God does not need a lost man to “give his life to God.” A
lost man has NO life in the sight of God (Eph. 2:1).
*Salvation is coming to Jesus Christ and trusting Him to
save you from Hell.
Discipleship is presenting your body as a living sacrifice to
God.
*It would be unreasonable to sacrifice your body to anyone
except Jesus Christ. It is reasonable to give yourself to Him
because:
1. The mercy you have already received (Rom12:1).
2. You are already His property (Rom11:36).
Rom 11:36 For of him, and through him,
and to him, are all things: to whom be glory
for ever. Amen.
3. You will be blessed when you find His will for your life
(Rom12:2).
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this
world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove
what is that good, and acceptable, and
perfect, will of God.

1 Thess. 4:3-5 - Finding God’s Will:
1. NEGATIVE: Be NOT conformed to this world.
2. POSITIVE: Be transformed by a renewed mind.
*There is a good will that has bad motives and God will not
accept it.
There is an acceptable will that is not perfect.
And finally, there is a perfect will of God.
There are several groups of 3 like this in the Bible:
1. Good, 2. Acceptable, 3. Perfect
1. Called, 2. Chosen, 3. Faithful
1. Fruit, 2. More fruit, 3. Much fruit
1. 120 disciples in Acts One, 2. The Twelve, 3. Peter, James,
and John (The Inner 3).
Rom 12:3
3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man
that is among you, not to think of himself more highly
than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as
God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Faith and grace are measured out (Eph. 4:7 ).
Eph 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace
according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Every man has faith, but some men have more faith than
other men.
Do not think highly of yourself and deceive yourself that you
have more faith than you actually have (Rom11:25 ).
Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye
should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should
be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in
part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the
Gentiles be come in.
Rom 12:4-5
4For as we have many members in one body, and all
members have not the same office:
5So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one
members one of another.

1Cor 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but
the same Spirit.

Faith, grace, and gifts differ with different people.
But all members of the body are needful.

Notice that the spiritual gifts in these verses do not include
unknown tongues.
Rather than being the “initial evidence of the baptism of the
Holy Ghost,” tongues (unknown or not) didn’t make the
list.
Rom 12:7
7Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that
teacheth, on teaching;
This “wait on” is like to “attend to” something, not be
delayed in waiting.
It is like a “waitress” that “waits on” customers at a
restaurant.
Isa 21:8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand
continually upon the watchtower in the daytime,
and I am set in my ward whole nights:
Matt 24:45-47 45 Who then is a faithful and
wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over
his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when
he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say
unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all
his goods.

Rom 12:8
8Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let
him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence;
he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
“With simplicity” means simply GIVE.
Pastors are the rulers in the local churches.
Many people show mercy with a bad attitude, but it should
be done with sincerity.
*There are three speaking gifts mentioned:
1) Prophesying or Preaching,
2) Teaching, and
3) Exhortation.
Very few men possess all the three gifts as speakers.
*There are four service gifts mentioned:
1) Ministering,
2) Giving,
3) Ruling,
4) Showing mercy.
Rom 12:9
9Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is
evil; cleave to that which is good.
“Dissimulation” is like respect of persons or partiality to
favorite people (Gal. 2:13 ).
Gal 2:13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise
with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was
carried away with their dissimulation.
“Abhor” is “to hate or detest.”
Paul preaches good works very often (Rom12:9-13; 13:6-
10), but never did he preach that you must do good works in
order to be saved!
Rom 12:10
10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly
love; in honour preferring one another;
In other words, giving your brother in Christ the first place.
Put him ahead of yourself.
Gen 13:9 Is not the whole land before thee?
separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt
take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if
thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to
the left.
Matt 20:26 But it shall not be so among you: but
whosoever will be great among you, let him be
your minister;
Luke 14:10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit
down in the lowest room; that when he that bade
thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up
higher: then shalt thou have worship in the
presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
1Pet 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves
unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to
another, and be clothed with humility: for God
resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the
humble.
Rom 12:11
11Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the
Lord;
SLOTHFUL- is slow moving or lazy.
FERVENT- Our word “fever” comes from this word
“fervent,” which means, “hot.”
Rom 12:12
12Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing
instant in prayer;
When tribulations come in your life (and they will come),
then rejoice in the Blessed Hope.
Jesus is coming to get us soon and take us home!
Do not quit or give up on serving the Lord.
Rom 12:13
13Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to
hospitality.
The truly, poor people in the local church should be helped,
if their poverty is not due to laziness (Rom. 15:25,26 ).
Rom 15:25 But now I go unto Jerusalem to
minister unto the saints.
Rom 15:26 For it hath pleased them of
Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain
contribution for the poor saints which are at
Jerusalem.
Rom 12:14
14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
This verse is like Matthew 5 in the Sermon on the Mount.
Rom 12:15
15Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them
that weep.
You should do this with other Christian because you are in
the same body with them (1 Corinth. 12:25-27 ).
1Cor 12:25-27 25 That there should be no
schism in the body; but that the members should
have the same care one for another.
26 And whether one member suffer, all the
members suffer with it; or one member be
honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members
in particular.
Rom 12:16
16Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not
high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not
wise in your own conceits.

2Cor 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect,
be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in
peace; and the God of love and peace shall be
with you.
Phil 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it
becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I
come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear
of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit,
with one mind striving together for the faith of
the gospel;
1Pet 3:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having
compassion one of another, love as brethren, be
pitiful, be courteous:
* “Mind not high things” – Ps. 131:1
Ps 131:1 A Song of degrees of David. LORD, my
heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither
do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things
too high for me.
* “Be not wise in your own conceits” –You may have some
Bible knowledge, but do not be boastful about it. Remain
humble before God and man.
Prov 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the
LORD, and depart from evil.
Rom 12:17
17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things
honest in the sight of all men.
2 Corinth. 8:21 – A Christian should be an honest person.
2Cor 8:21 Providing for honest things, not only
in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of
men.
Truth is what the Christian life is all about (John 17:17 ), and
a Christian has no excuse for being a liar.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy
word is truth.
Rom 12:18
18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably
with all men.
Some men are impossible to live with in a peaceable way.
You are told to love the brethren,
but there is a difference between loving someone and living
peaceably with them.
You can love someone, but hate his or her behavior.
If you cannot live peaceably with someone, then get away
from him or her.
Sometimes this is the only way to have peace.
Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the
Spirit in the bond of peace.
Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your
hearts, to the which also ye are called in one
body; and be ye thankful.
2Tim 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow
righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them
that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and
holiness, without which no man shall see the
Lord:

Rom 12:19
19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give
place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I
will repay, saith the Lord.
When you feel angry, step back from wrath instead of
stepping up to it.
If a problem with a brother cannot be resolved by going to
him and following Matthew 18:15-18 , then just pray and let
God handle the problem (2 Tim. 4:14 ).
Matt 18:15-18 15 Moreover if thy brother shall
trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault
between thee and him alone: if he shall hear
thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee
one or two more, that in the mouth of two or
three witnesses every word may be

17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it
unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the
church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man
and a publican.
18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and
whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be
loosed in heaven.

Rom 12:20

The first part of this verse is like the Sermon on the Mount
in Matthew 5:44
Matt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies,
bless them that curse you, do good to them that
hate you, and pray for them which despitefully
use you, and persecute you;
You double a man’s condemnation by treating him well (Ps.
140:10; Prov25:21 ).
Ps 140:10 Let burning coals fall upon them: let
them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that
they rise not up again.
Prov 25:21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him
bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water
to drink:
Rom 12:21
21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
It’s not enough that we stop doing evil things. We must
replace evil with good, lest we slip back into the old ways.
Prov 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than
the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he
that taketh a city.
1Pet 3:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for
railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye
are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a
blessing.
Rom 13:1
1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For
there is no power but of God: the powers that be are
ordained of God.
The Bible rule is simple: God’s people must submit to the
powers that be unless the powers that be require us to
disobey God. Exodus 1:17, Acts 5:29, I Peter 2:13-17.
Exod 1:17 But the midwives feared God, and did
not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but
saved the men children alive.
Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles
answered and said, We ought to obey God rather
than men.
1Pet 2:13-17 13 Submit yourselves to every
ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it
be to the king, as supreme; 14 Or unto
governors, as unto them that are sent by him for
the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of
them that do well. 15 For so is the will of God,
that with well doing ye may put to silence the
ignorance of foolish men: 16 As free, and not
using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness,
but as the servants of God. 17 Honour all men.
Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the
king.
Rom 13:2
2Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the
ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to
themselves damnation.
God expects you to obey the rulers placed over you. The
“damnation” mentioned is not eternal. It is like the
temporary damnation of Rom8:1
Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no
condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 13:3
3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil.
Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which
is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
Rom 13:3 God’s plan for government is to maintain law and
order.
Generally, if you do right and obey the government, then you
will have a fine and peaceable life.
When a ruler becomes a terror to good works, he loses his
right to be obeyed (Acts 5:29 ) and will not rule with the
blessing of God.
However, God ordained his position.
We must respect and honour the position, even if we cannot
respect and honour the individual that holds the position.
Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles
answered and said, We ought to obey God rather
than men.
Rom 13:4
4For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou
do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the
sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to
execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Rom 13:4 The government officials, ministers, and police
are called “ministers of God.”
*Capital punishment or the death penalty for murder:
1. Before the law (Gen. 9:5,6);
Gen 9:5 And surely your blood of your lives will I
require; at the hand of every beast will I require
it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every
man's brother will I require the life of man.
Gen 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man
shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God
made he man.
2. Under the law (Ex.21:12);
Exod 21:12 He that smiteth a man, so that he
die, shall be surely put to death.
3. Under grace (Acts 25:11).
Acts 25:11 For if I be an offender, or have
committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse
not to die: but if there be none of these things
whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver
me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.
Rom 13:5
5Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath,
but also for conscience sake.
You should pay your taxes and obey the government to stay
out of jail AND to have your conscience clear and without
guilt before God.
Rom 13:6
6For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's
ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
“Tribute” is tax. Even the tax collectors are ordained by God
(Luke 20:22-26; 23:2 ).
Luke 20:22-26 22 Is it lawful for us to give
tribute unto Caesar, or no?
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said
unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and
superscription hath it? They answered and said,
Caesar's.
25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto
Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto
God the things which be God's.
26 And they could not take hold of his words
before the people: and they marvelled at his
answer, and held their peace.
Luke 23:2 And they began to accuse him, saying,
We found this fellow perverting the nation, and
forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that
he himself is Christ a King.
Rom 13:7
7Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom
tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear;
honour to whom honour.
“Custom” is like adapting to the culture where you are
living. “When in Rome do as the Romans.” It is like the
“customs of the culture.”
* “Fear” is only to be rendered to God (Matt. 10:28 ).
Matt 10:28 And fear not them which kill the
body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather
fear him which is able to destroy both soul and
body in hell.
*The exception to obeying the culture and government is
when they go against the word of God (Acts 5:28-30 ).
Especially in preaching the word of God and the name of
Jesus Christ, you must obey God rather than man.
Acts 5:28-30 28 Saying, Did not we straitly
command you that ye should not teach in this
name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with
your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's
blood upon us. 29 Then Peter and the other
apostles answered and said, We ought to obey
God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers
raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a
tree.
*Exodus1-The midwives disobeyed the government for
God’s sake and God blessed them.
*Daniel 6 – Daniel disobeyed the government for God’s sake
and God blessed him.
*Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow and
worship the image. They said, “God can protect us, but if
He does not protect us we will still obey.”

Rom 13:8
8Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he
that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
The only thing you should owe man is love to your fellow
Christian. This is to be obeyed in the “SPIRIT” of the law
not the “letter”.
Lev 19:17-18 17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother
in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy
neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. 18 Thou
shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against
the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
1Thess 5:15 See that none render evil for evil
unto any man; but ever follow that which is good,
both among yourselves, and to all men.
Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour:
therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Rom 13:9
9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt
not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false
witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other
commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying,
namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

“Thou shalt not bear false witness” is omitted from the
corrupt versions.
*When Paul lists the commandments in the NT he never
includes the SABBATH because it is an OT Jewish
ceremony.
*The first and great commandment is to love God with all
your heart (Matt.22:37-40) and the second is to love your
neighbor as yourself. If you keep these two commands, then
you will have no problem with the other commandments.
You will fulfill the whole law.
Rom 13:10
10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is
the fulfilling of the law.
If you love your neighbor as yourself, then you will not steal
from him, covet his property, etc. “On these two
commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Rom 13:11
11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to
awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than
when we believed.
During our present age the Christians are sleeping instead of
laboring. Many Christians have the spiritual discernment of
a sleeping man (1 Corinth. 15:34 ; Eph. 5:14 ; 1 Thess.
5:5,6).
1Cor 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not;
for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak
this to your shame.
Eph 5:14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that
sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ
shall give thee light.
1Thess 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and
the children of the day: we are not of the night,
nor of darkness.
1Thess 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do
others; but let us watch and be sober.

The day” refers to the Second Coming of Christ.
Paul was expecting the rapture at any time. The “armor” is
in Ephesians 6:10-18 .
Rom 13:13
13Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and
drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in
strife and envying.
Rom 13:13 1 Thess. 4:12 – “Chambering” is defined as
“lewdness” and this is the only time it is used in the English
Bible. Lewdness is “the unlawful indulgence of lust,
fornication, or adultery.” “Wantonness”is “lack of restraint,
lasciviousness, recklessness.”

The flesh has five basic desires:
1. Self-preservation,
2. Appetite,
3. Dominion,
4. Procreation,
5. Rest.
None of these things are bad in themselves, but they can be
misused or twisted into evil. One of the keys to doing right
is moderation (Phil. 4:5 ).
Phil 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all
men. The Lord is at hand.
* “Make not provision for the flesh” means simply to put a
step to the plans of your flesh when you find the flesh
planning to do evil.

Rom 14:2-3
2For one believeth that he may eat all things: another,
who is weak, eateth herbs.
3Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and
let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for
God hath received him.
The case here is a case of a Christian who does not eat
meat and believes he can only eat vegetables.
The Bible says that the reason he believes he cannot eat
meat is because he is a “weak” Christian.
The stronger Christian should not despise the weaker
Christian and the weaker Christian should not despise the
stronger Christian.
If God receives you, then you should not care about men
receiving you.
*Gen. 4:7 - Cain was rejected by God and Abel was
accepted. Wedon’t see Abel complaining about Cain “doing
it all wrong”.
See 1 Corinth. 8:1 for the problem with eating meat offered
for idols.
1Cor 8:1 Now as touching things offered unto
idols, we know that we all have knowledge.
Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
Rom 14:4
4Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his
own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden
up: for God is able to make him stand.
REMEMBER: You are not the judge or master of your
brother in Christ.
Jesus Christ is his Master and if the man is trying to obey
his Master, then you need to close your mouth.
Many Christians are self-righteous and act like they are
better than their brothers. “ALL have sinned.”
Jas 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to
save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest
another?
Ps 119:117 Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe:
and I will have respect unto thy statutes
continually.
Rom 14:5-6
5One man esteemeth one day above another: another
esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully
persuaded in his own mind.
6He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord;
and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not
regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth
God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth
not, and giveth God thanks.
Some Christians treat Sunday as a holy day, but the truth is
that you should worship and live for God EVERYDAY.
This verse proves that the condemning attitude of a
Seventh Day Adventist is against the word of God.
The word says, “Let every man be fully persuaded in his
own mind.”
In plainer words, if you worship on a different day than
your brother, then do not condemn him and try to force him
to worship on the same day as you.
*The important thing is to avoid a bad conscience.
Be FULLY persuaded in your own mind.
If you are not “fully persuaded” that your actions are right,
then change your actions.
Do not let your brother in Christ persuade you do to
something that your conscience makes you feel guilty about.
If you cannot ask God to bless the activity you are about to
do and if you cannot do it for His glory, then do not do it!
Concerning doubtful things, ask yourself these questions:
1 Does God receive glory from this activity?
2. Does it edify or build up anyone?
3. Can I ask the blessing of God to be on this activity?
Rom 14:7
7For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to
himself.
Someone is watching you and if you stumble, then you will
cause someone else to stumble (Matt.18:5,6 ).
A child’s hero is his father and the father can build or
destroy a child spiritually.
Matt 18:5 And whoso shall receive one such little
child in my name receiveth me.
Matt 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these
little ones which believe in me, it were better for
him that a millstone were hanged about his neck,
and that he were drowned in the depth of the
sea.

8For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether

die, we are the Lord's.
Rom 14:8 If no one is watching you, then remember that

Achan thought no one was watching him, but God was, and

Rom 14:10

Romans 14:10 The term “judgment seat of Christ” is used
twice in the Bible, here and in II Corinthians 5:10.
2Cor 5:10 For we must all appear before the
judgment seat of Christ; that every one may
receive the things done in his body, according to
that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Both places refer not to a general judgment for both saved
and lost, but rather to a special judgment for saved people
only.
Notice also that when a man stands at the judgment seat of
Christ (Romans 14:10) he is also giving account to God
(Romans 14:12). Jesus is God.
Rom 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the
Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every
tongue shall confess to God.
Rom 14:12 So then every one of us shall give
account of himself to God.

Rom 14:12 It does NOT say that you will give account for
your brother, but for YOURSELF.
One of the hardest things in life is to keep your eyes on
Jesus Christ and your nose out of the other people’s
business.
*Job 26:2-4 – It is possible that these questions will be asked
at the Christian’s judgment.
Job 26:2-4 2 How hast thou helped him that is
without power?
how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no
wisdom? and
how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it

If you find yourself judged of God now.
Hos 4:6-8 6 My people are destroyed for lack of
knowledge: because thou hast rejected
knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt

the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
7 As they were increased, so they sinned
against me: therefore will I change their glory
into shame. 8 They eat up the sin of my people,
and they set their heart on their iniquity.
Hos 14:1-3 1 O Israel, return unto the LORD thy

Rom 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any

Rom 14:13 You are commanded to judge THINGS (1
Corinth. 2:15-16 ), be careful when it comes to condemning
an individual.
1Cor 2:15-16 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth
all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord,
that he may instruct him? But we have the mind
of Christ.
Paul rebuked the local church at Corinth for not judging a
matter (1 Corinth. 6:1-6 ).
1Cor 6:1-6 1 Dare any of you, having a matter
against another, go to law before the unjust, and
not before the saints?
2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the
world? and if the world shall be judged by you,
are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how
much more things that pertain to this life?
4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining
to this life, set them to judge who are least
esteemed in the church.
5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not
a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be
able to judge between his brethren?
6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and
that before the unbelievers.
A Christian should have the simple discernment to know
the difference between right and wrong.
Rom 14:14
14I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there
is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any
thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
Rom 14:14 Paul was fully persuaded (Rom14:5 ).
Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above
another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let
every man be fully persuaded in his own
mind.
Perhaps, a particular thing is clean, but what you do with it
can be unclean.
There is nothing wrong with money, but to love money and
covet money is a sin (1 Tim. 6:10 ).
1Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all
evil: which while some coveted after, they have
erred from the faith, and pierced themselves
through with many sorrows.
There is nothing wrong with food, but to make a god of
your belly is a sin (Phil. 3:19 ).
Phil 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God
is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame,
who mind earthly things.)
*If an activity causes a brother to stumble and you do not
have to do it, then do not do it (1 Corinth. 10:25-30 ).
1Cor 10:25-30 25 Whatsoever is sold in the
shambles, that eat, asking no question for
conscience sake: 26 For the earth is the Lord's,
and the fulness thereof. 27 If any of them that
believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed
to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking
no question for conscience sake. 28 But if any
man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto
idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for
conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and
the fulness thereof: 29 Conscience, I say, not
thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty
judged of another man's conscience? 30 For if I
by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of
for that for which I give thanks?
Rom 14:15-16
15But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest
thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for
whom Christ died.
16Let not then your good be evil spoken of:
There is a time to Stand for right and let it be known.
There is also a time to not offend if you can help it.
Isa 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and
good evil; that put darkness for light, and light
for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet
for bitter!
1Thess 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Rom 14:17
17For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but
righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
The kingdom of God does not consist of meat, drink, and
outward religion.
It consists of three things here:
1. Righteousness (Rom 3:21-31; 4:1-25; 8:4)
Rom 3:21-31 21 But now the righteousness of
God without the law is manifested, being
witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even
the righteousness of God which is by faith of
Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that
believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have
sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24
Being justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God
hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in
his blood, to declare his righteousness for the
remission of sins that are past, through the
forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this
time his righteousness: that he might be just, and
the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what
law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by
faith without the deeds of the law. 29 Is he the
God of the Jews only? is he not also of the
Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 30 Seeing it is
one God, which shall justify the circumcision by
faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 31 Do we
then make void the law through faith? God
forbid: yea, we establish the law.
Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might
be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit.
2. Peace (Rom 2:10; 5:1; 8:6; 10:15)
Rom 2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every
man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also
to the Gentile:
Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ:
Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but
to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach, except
they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are
the feet of them that preach the gospel of
peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
3. Joy (Rom 5:11; Gal 5:22; 1Pet 1:8)
Rom 5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in
God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we
have now received the atonement.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
1Pet 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in
whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing,
ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
A DEFINITION: The Kingdom of God is not a physical
kingdom.
It is a spiritual kingdom.
In the Church Age in which we live, God’s plan is not to
overtake evil by physical force.
His plan is to quietly call out a small group of people for
His name from the Gentile nations (Acts 15:14 ).
Acts 15:14 Simeon hath declared how God at the
first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a
people for his name.
Christians will NEVER be the majority in this church age.
Notice also the proper order of God’s kingdom, an order
that the world can never seem to comprehend:
righteousness, then peace, then joy.
If you skip the righteousness, then you can’t have the peace
(Isa. 57:21),
Isa 57:21 There is no peace, saith my God, to the
wicked.
and you can’t have joy without peace.
So, everything rests on righteousness, a state that one
cannot attain without the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:3-4).
Rom 10:3-4 3 For they being ignorant of God's
righteousness, and going about to establish their
own righteousness, have not submitted
themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For
Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to
every one that believeth.
Rom 14:18-19
18For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable
to God, and approved of men.
19Let us therefore follow after the things which make for
peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
Most of the time, the man that is acceptable to God is the
man that is approved by other men.
That is not always the rule, but most of the time it is true.
A man who has righteousness, peace, and joy in the
Holy Spirit has three other great blessings:
1. He is a servant of Christ.
2. He is acceptable with God.
3. He is approved by people.

It is the bickering over meats and doubtful things
which destroys the soul and liberty in using them may
also cause an ignorant man to apostatize
Rom 14:13-15 13 Let us not therefore judge
one another any more: but judge this rather, that

fall in his brother's way. 14 I know, and am
persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is
nothing unclean of itself: but to him that
esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is

All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man
who eateth with offence
All edible things are pure and lawful, but they become
sinful to the man who eats with offense and with a
defiled conscience.
The conscience should be instructed, won over by
proper knowledge and truth and not forced to do
something contrary to its own knowledge and feelings
regarding doubtful things
Rom 8:7-13 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity
against God: for it is not subject to the law of
God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that
are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are
not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the
Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have
not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And
if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of
sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus
from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up
Christ from the dead shall also quicken your
mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to
the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live
after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the
Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall
live.
Rom 10:21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I
have stretched forth my hands unto a
disobedient and gainsaying people.
1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in
the light, we have fellowship one with another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth
us from all sin.

exceeding great and precious promises: that by
these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the
world through lust. 5 And beside this, giving all
diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue
knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance;
and to temperance patience; and to patience
godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness;
and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these
things be in you, and abound, they make you that
ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that
lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar
off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from
his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren,
give diligence to make your calling and election
sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
2Pet 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the
knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

of offences! for it must needs be that offences
come; but woe to that man by whom the offence
cometh! 8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot
offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from
thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or
maimed, rather than having two hands or two
feet to be cast into everlasting fire. 9 And if thine
eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from
thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with
one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast
into hell fire. 10 Take heed that ye despise not
one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in
heaven their angels do always behold the face of
my Father which is in heaven.

The word “wine” is used of all kinds of drinks-even
the grape juice when it is still in the cluster
Isa 65:8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is
found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not;
for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants'
sakes, that I may not destroy them all.
Hos 4:10-11 10 For they shall eat, and not have
enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not
increase: because they have left off to take heed to
the LORD. 11 Whoredom and wine and new wine
take away the heart.
New wine is grape juice (Isa 65:8), but in this context
it reveals that material prosperity can hinder the work
of God as evil.

Matt 13:22 He also that received seed among
the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the
care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches,
choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Mark 4:19 And the cares of this world, and
the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of
other things entering in, choke the word,
and it becometh unfruitful.
1Tim 6:9-10 9 But they that will be rich fall into
temptation and a snare, and into many foolish
and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction
and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the
root of all evil: which while some coveted after,
they have erred from the faith, and pierced
themselves through with many sorrows.
Matt 6:19-21 19 Lay not up for yourselves
treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves break through and
steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves do not break through
nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will
your heart be also.
Mark 10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and
saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they
that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
1Tim 6:17-19 17 Charge them that are rich in
this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust
in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who
giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18 That they
do good, that they be rich in good works, ready
to distribute, willing to communicate; 19 Laying
up in store for themselves a good foundation
against the time to come, that they may lay hold
on eternal life.
Intoxicating drinks should be left alone in view of the
law against drunkenness.
Prov 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging:
and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Isa 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and
through strong drink are out of the way; the priest
and the prophet have erred through strong drink,
they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the
way through strong drink; they err in vision, they
stumble in judgment.
Hos 7:5 In the day of our king the princes have made
him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his
hand with scorners.
Eph 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is
excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Not- be not drunk in excess with wine… within wine is
EXCESS.
1Cor 6:9-11 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous
shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not
deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of
themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor
extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11
And such were some of you: but ye are washed,
but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the
name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our
God.
Gal 5:19-21 19 Now the works of the flesh are
manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry,
witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath,
strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders,
drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the
which I tell you before, as I have also told you in
time past, that they which do such things shall
not inherit the kingdom of God.

apostatize and be lost must be laid aside.

thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot

day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light
of this world. 10 But if a man walk in the night,
he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

Rom 11 to 15

  • 1. Rom 11:16 16For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. The spirit of God given at salvation should work its way to the outside John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Rom 11:17 17And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
  • 2. “Some of the branches” refers to Israel in part. The “wild olive tree” refers to the Gentiles. “The root” is Jesus Christ. *Israel as an olive tree: Jeremiah 11:16 ; Isaiah 17:6 ; Judges 9:8-9 Jer 11:16 The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken. Isa 17:6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel. Judg 9:8-9 8 The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us. 9 But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees? *Everything that we have as Gentile believers comes from the blessings of Israel
  • 3. (Eph. 2:12,19-20). Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: Eph 2:19-20 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; Our Saviour is Jewish (Matt. 27:37). Matt 27:37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Our Bible is Jewish with 40-42 Jewish writers (Rom. 3:1-2). Rom 3:1-2 1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. Our God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that brought salvation to the Jew first (Rom. 1:16).
  • 4. Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Rom 11:18 18Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Do not boast against Israel because God is still fulfilling Genesis 12:1-3. Gen 12:1-3 1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Rom 11:19 19Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
  • 5. Israel has fallen and the Gentiles have risen to favor with God (Rom11:11 Deut32:20-21 ). Rom 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy. Deut 32:20-21 20 And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith. 21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. Rom 11:20-21 20Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 21For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. If God broke off His own nation of Israel, then the Gentiles can fall out of favor with God, too.
  • 6. At the end of the Church Age, when the Church is raptured out of the earth, then the Gentiles will fall from favor with God. Rom 11:21 is primarily a warning to lost Gentiles. Rom 11:21 "thee" Gentile nations Zeph 3:8 Mat 13:30 Mat 13:40-42 Jer 30:11 2Pet 3:15-16 Zeph 3:8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. Matt 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Rom 11:22 22Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. “Goodness and severity” show that God is balanced. God loves with perfect love and hates with perfect hatred. God is love and God is a consuming fire. *The Gentiles have not continued in His goodness, so God has begun to cut them off from His favor. First they were “cutoff” in Europe and the churches are now monuments and memorials to a time when Christianity was alive there. Now the Gentiles are being “cut off” in America due to compromise and backsliding. Eventually, the Gentiles will be “cut off” worldwide.
  • 10. This is not referring to individual salvation, but to the privileges that go along with loving the word of God and the Gospel. Rom 11:23-24 23And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. 24For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree? You can graft branches into a tree and the treecan bring forth two different kinds of fruit. Israel was the original branches. We Gentiles were grafted into the tree. God is saying that when the Gentiles fall away it will be easy to put the original branches back into the tree. Rom 11:25 25For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
  • 11. The temporary blindness of Israel is a “GreatMystery.” The blindness is partial because a few Jews still get saved during the church age. A Gentile that thinks he has replaced Israel is ignorant and proud. *The SEVEN MYSTERIES are: 1. Blindness in part to Israel (Rom. 11:25 ). Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 2. God manifest in the flesh (1 Tim. 3:16 ). 1Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 3. Christ in you (Col. 1:27-28 ). Col 1:27-28 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28 Whom we preach,
  • 12. warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 4. Christ and the Church (Eph. 5:25-32 ). Eph 5:25-32 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. The Calvinist thinks the word “election” always refers to salvation and saved people. This system is proven to be faulty in this verse.
  • 27. Unsaved Jews were elected by God and called “theelection.” They are also called “enemies” of the Gospel. They are lost, but they are called “the elect.” Rom 11:29 29For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. God will keep the promises that He made to Abraham, but a lot of time will pass between the making of the promise and the fulfilling of the promise. Rom 11:30 30For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: In the OT, the Gentiles did not believe in the true God. They worshipped idols. We obtained mercy through the unbelief of the Jews. 3 Rom 11:31-32 31Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. 32For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

God wants all men to receive mercy (2 Peter 3:9 ). 2Pet 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. He is deserving and faithful to repay you (Rom11:35 ). Rom 11:35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

Rom 12:1 1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. “Therefore” is referring back to Rom11:35 and the fact that God will recompense or repay the man that gives to Him. *Salvation is NOT “giving your life to the Lord” or the Lord “coming into your life.” Salvation is trusting Christ to save your soul from hell and He comes into your BODY! After salvation, you present your body as a living sacrifice to God. God does not need a lost man to “give his life to God.” A lost man has NO life in the sight of God (Eph. 2:1). *Salvation is coming to Jesus Christ and trusting Him to save you from Hell. Discipleship is presenting your body as a living sacrifice to God. *It would be unreasonable to sacrifice your body to anyone except Jesus Christ. It is reasonable to give yourself to Him because: 1. The mercy you have already received (Rom12:1).
  • 33. 2. You are already His property (Rom11:36). Rom 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. 3. You will be blessed when you find His will for your life (Rom12:2). Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rom 12:2 2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 1 Thess. 4:3-5 - Finding God’s Will: 1. NEGATIVE: Be NOT conformed to this world. 2. POSITIVE: Be transformed by a renewed mind. *There is a good will that has bad motives and God will not accept it. There is an acceptable will that is not perfect. And finally, there is a perfect will of God.
  • 34. There are several groups of 3 like this in the Bible: 1. Good, 2. Acceptable, 3. Perfect 1. Called, 2. Chosen, 3. Faithful 1. Fruit, 2. More fruit, 3. Much fruit 1. 120 disciples in Acts One, 2. The Twelve, 3. Peter, James, and John (The Inner 3). Rom 12:3 3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Faith and grace are measured out (Eph. 4:7 ). Eph 4:7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Every man has faith, but some men have more faith than other men. Do not think highly of yourself and deceive yourself that you have more faith than you actually have (Rom11:25 ). The word says, “Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” In plainer words, if you worship on a different day than your brother, then do not condemn him and try to force him to worship on the same day as you. *The important thing is to avoid a bad conscience. Be FULLY persuaded in your own mind. If you are not “fully persuaded” that your actions are right, then change your actions. Do not let your brother in Christ persuade you do to something that your conscience makes you feel guilty about.

A Christian should have the simple discernment to know the difference between right and wrong.

It is a spiritual kingdom. In the Church Age in which we live, God’s plan is not to overtake evil by physical force. His plan is to quietly call out a small group of people for His name from the Gentile nations (Acts 15:14 ).
  • 80. Acts 15:14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. Christians will NEVER be the majority in this church age. Notice also the proper order of God’s kingdom, an order that the world can never seem to comprehend: righteousness, then peace, then joy. If you skip the righteousness, then you can’t have the peace (Isa. 57:21), Isa 57:21 There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked. and you can’t have joy without peace. So, everything rests on righteousness, a state that one cannot attain without the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:3-4). Rom 10:3-4 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Hos 4:10-11 10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD. 11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.
  • 101. New wine is grape juice (Isa 65:8), but in this context it reveals that material prosperity can hinder the work of God as evil. (Matt 13:22; Mark 4:19; Acts 19:23-41; 1Tim 6:9-10) (Matt 6:19-21; Mark 10:23; 1Tim 6:17-19).
