 Developing of knowledge, skills and 
attitudes to live effectively in a word 
possessing limited natural resources 
and characterized by ethnic diversity, 
cultural pluralism and increasing 
interdependence.
 Emphasizes human experience 
influenced by trans nation and cross 
cultural interaction 
 Emphasizes the wide variety of actors 
on the word stage 
 Emphasizes fate of humankind cannot 
be separated from the state of the 
global environment. 
 Emphasizes citizen participation at

 A healthy, well functioning global 
society demands that individuals have

communicate and behave in a new

The Classroom as a Global Community

  • 1. THE CLASSROOM AS A GLOBAL COMMUNITY
  • 2. Introduction  In an inter-related society like ours, the responsibility to prepare the learners to live productively within this natural environment falls on the teachers and the schools.
  • 3. What is globalization?  Interconnectedness among people and ideas from the entire and total system. ◦ economic ◦ Environment ◦ Communication ◦ Political ◦ social
  • 4. Education for a global perspective  Developing of knowledge, skills and attitudes to live effectively in a word possessing limited natural resources and characterized by ethnic diversity, cultural pluralism and increasing interdependence.
  • 5.  Emphasizes human experience influenced by trans nation and cross cultural interaction  Emphasizes the wide variety of actors on the word stage  Emphasizes fate of humankind cannot be separated from the state of the global environment.  Emphasizes citizen participation at both local and international
  • 6. Demands of a global society  A healthy, well functioning global society demands that individuals have the ability to think, perceive, communicate and behave in a new and different ways with people from many different backgrounds. The preparation of individuals for these kinds of interaction is the goal of global or international education.
  • 7. Henvey’s Five element of a global perspective  Perspective consciousness  State of the planet awareness  Cross cultural awareness  Knowledge of global dynamics of word systems  Awareness of human choice
  • 8. Characteristics of a global classroom  Creative use of technology  Broad use of maps, local an national newspapers, taped televisions programs, united nations materials  Teaching roles for members of the local, international community and integration of content from inter nation organizations and associations.
  • 9.  Integration of content from inter national (trends, data bases)  Use of alternative assessment ◦ Computer generated test and games ◦ Puzzles, solving real word problems ◦ Writing, poems, posters and flyers
  • 10. Requirements of teaching a global oriented curriculum  Global perspective is integrated throughout the school curriculum not just in social studies.  Integration focus courses are developed in areas such as anthropology, regional history, geography and global or word.
  • 11.  Internationalizing instructional methods and materials emphasize intercultural interaction and culturally appropriate methods of instruction and assessment.
  • 12. Internationalizing the disciplines  Reading and language arts can include word literature,  Science education might include the study of the natural environment and problems created by technology and economic innovation.
  • 13.  Foreign language education can include languages of immigrant and refugee populations, and the role of translators in diplomacy.  Mathematics education can include the study of metric system and traditional numeration system from other cultures, and math concepts can be taught using word data and global issues.
