Imbalance In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
Imbalance is at the center of mayhem
As the French philosopher Baron de Montesquieu believed, a system of checks and balances of power
are necessary to have a society. William Golding had written the Lord of the Flies, a book about a
group of young boys stranded on a island needing to find ways of survival. His book portrays how
Montesquieu s idea of checks and balances are needed to make an ideal community. On the island,
Jack and Ralph were the two boys that seemed most fit to be leaders among these stranded boys and at
first the island was a safe place for living, until Jack gains more and more control where the levels of
authority are not equal. With Jack having most of the control, there is an absence of balance and this
absence of balance between powers on the island causes the boys turn to savagery and chaos. Golding
writes of the boys failing to have a mindset of surviving together by living their life on the island with
an imbalance of power to govern themselves and by having this imbalance, the boys kill each other
and destroy the island to rise in dominance, which is what Montesquieu predicted would happen if
there was no checks of power and balance between sides.
In the Lord of the Flies, Golding shows how the boys on the island fail to govern themselves since
Jack s authority grows too fast and Ralph can t limit him. Golding s book agrees with how
Montesquieu believed having three branches of leadership ideally keeps the governmental system
balanced. There are

Professional Organizations Were Created To Assist In The
Professional organizations were created to assist in the growth and development of a profession
(Black, 2014). For example, nurses use organizations to improve health and working conditions that
result in changing the way health is delivered to a population (Black, 2014). These organizations allow
individuals to express their opinions on current issues, enhance their knowledge of the profession, and
facilitate relationships with other individuals that share the same interest and concerns. To get a better
understanding of these groups, I explored the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA)
website to see what information I could collection. The APNA is an independent organization that was
created 30 years ago with the hope of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading through the APNA s website I would have to say I agree with the APNA s goal, which is
to help individuals and their loved ones understand the prevention, diagnosis, and recovery of
psychiatric patients, by being recognized as the expert voice for psychiatric mental health nursing
(American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). The APNA organization started with 600 members
and has now grown to nearly 10,000 members that are interested in or apart of the mental health
nursing practice (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). While looking though the website,
I could not found a specific breakdown of the number of members, but the site did stated, APNA
supports and serves the interests of psychiatric mental health nurses both nationally and internationally
(American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). Members of this association are automatically
assigned to their state s chapter (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). Virginia s chapter
page has very little information compared to other state chapters, but from the information I gathered,
this chapter is not local active in the Hampton Roads Community. This organization puts lots of
energy into advancing research to improve the techniques of identifying mental health issues
(American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). With earlier detection, psychiatric nurse clinicians
will be able to promote the proper health and wellness to those on the

Designing Of Electronic Controller Smart Home With...
Career Episode 3: Designing of Electronic controller smart home with embedded technology
1. Introduction
1.1 Embedded Technology has become an important feature for commercial products and a popular
research topic within the last ten years. There are now more mobile phone subscriptions than wired
line subscriptions. Lately, one area of commercial interest has been low cost, low power, and short
distance embedded technology used for personal wireless networks. Technology advancements are
providing smaller and more cost effective devices for integrating computational processing, embedded
technology, and a host of other functionalities. These embedded communications devices will be
integrated into applications ranging from household security to industry automation and monitoring.
2. Background
In the present project our main aim is to Control the industrial appliances by wirelessly. In this project
we are controlling the devices according to the Digital code. For Every appliance they must have a
fixed Code. The Micro controller is used to control the whole system. Power is supplied to the micro
control unit by using regulated power supply unit and the frequency of the micro controller is
maintained by the crystal oscillator. On supplying the power, the micro control unit will be switched
ON and the LCD is displayed enquiring the password.
Whenever the code is entered through the remote/keypad, the micro controller will check the entered
code if it is correct or not.

Jainism Essay
The religion of Jainism has many components that are said to be very similar with certain parts of
Hinduism as well as Buddhism. The Jain religion is most popular in India where it was first found.
There are millions of Jain people around the world. Jainism first started in ancient East India. The
success of this religion all comes down to the 24 Jinas. Jinas are those who overcome or conqueror.
The first Jina is believed to have been a giant around 8.4 million years ago (Robinson, 2010). The
most recent, and last, was named Vardhamana (also known as Mahavira or The Great Hero). He is
known to be the founder of the Jain community. Jainism was very different from things that the
regular community was used to. It went up against the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Karma does not have any meaning on its own, it comes to affect when it gets attached to the soul
(Karma, 2009). This karma gets attached to the soul when Jains do not follow five main beliefs. Jain
followers were expected to follow certain actions during their everyday life. These included Ahimsa
(no violence mental, physical or verbal), Satya (speaking the truth), Asteya (not stealing from others),
Brahma charya (remaining faithful to one spouse only), and Aparigraha (detach from ownership of
places and materialistic things) (Robinson, 2010). The four vows where already established by the
23rd Jain, while Mahavira added in the 5th vow. After the vows had been set, Mahavira also asked his
followers to shed all clothes. This meant that the Jain monks would be able to realize the feeling of
absolute chastity and forget about all the pleasures of material life. Jainism is based on three
principles: Right Faith, Right Knowledge, and Right Action. Before people of the Jain religion are
able to become monks, they must pass through three other stages during their life time. These stages
include Brahmacharya ashrama: the life of a student, Gruhasth ashrama: family life, Vanaprasth
ashrama: family and social services and then anyast ashrama: life as a monk. The very early teaching
of Jainism had first passed from generation to generation through oral traditions. A religious council
would be held Pataliputra (present day Patna) in third century BC. These

What is the impact of the male characters treatment of women towards a western female audience?
In the novels Scarlet Song by Mariama Ba and The Waiting Years by Fumiko Enchi we as readers are
able to experience the way in which the male characters treat the female characters of the novel.
Women in present time are able to sympathize with these women because the way in which the men
treat them leaves a very strong and negative impression and ambiance. It is true that different women

Tomo finds a mistress and sends a photograph of her to her husband. After Shirakawa approves her,
Tomo has a terrible nightmare that she kills him, and wakes up screaming. This conveys her hidden
anguish and feelings which she has to oppress for her husband s sake. The mistress, Suga, is just a
little girl who feels unhappy in possession of a stranger. During the beginning of their relationship
Shirakawa spends a lot of money on buying Suga clothes as a way of soothing her, at this time he had
not made any physical advances towards her. This gives us the impression that the men in this culture
would do anything for woman to win their hearts, than later demand things from them and expect
them to obey commands, To clothe a girl from a poor family in the most luxurious garments possible
was in itself almost certainly a means of winning Suga s heart (Enchi, 42). Tomo continues to suffer
from terrible nightmares due to her intense jealousy and upset about her husband s various escapades.
Another situation that takes place in the book would be the conflict that occurs between Miya and
Michimasa. Miya runs to Tomo who is Michimasa s mother and complains to her about what had
happened. Michimasa tried to force Miya into having sex with him and she refused to, therefore, he

Sports Cause Injuries
Playing sports can cause injuries. That is why players wear special shoes, shoulder pads, knee pads,
helmets, and other protective gear before starting a game. Sports goggles are another piece of
protective gear that players should be donning before a game. They protect the eyes and help a player
see more clearly.
Sports goggles come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials. How do you find the right goggles for
your sport?
Tips for Selecting Sports Goggles
Regular corrective lenses, sunglasses, and industrial safety glasses are not substitutes for sports
goggles. They are not made to take the rigors of a sport. Dress eyeglass frames can break on impact
potentially causing injury.
Select a goggle frame that is specifically designed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is highly impact resistant and can protect the eyes against fast moving objects. It also offers
ultraviolet protection which is imperative for outdoor sports.
All sports lenses should have an anti scratch coating. It is very easy for untreated polycarbonate lenses
to get scratched, even with normal use. The anti scratch coating extends the lenses life and keeps the
wearer seeing cleaning.
Select a tinting that is appropriate to your sport. For example, if you are going to be doing winter or
water sports, UV protection is critical to avoid reflected sunlight from burning your eye s corneas.
Yellow lenses are great for tennis players who need to see the ball against a blue sky. Amber lenses
filter out blue light making baseballs contrast against a bright sky.
If you need corrective lenses, make sure the goggles you select can accommodate your prescription.
Most sports goggles are designed to take both prescription and non prescription lenses. But, it never
hurts to check.
Fit is critical when it comes to sports goggles. You will need the goggles to stay in place when you are
at your most active. Try a number of goggle frames to ensure you find one that is comfortable and that
offers you the right

Research Paper On Francisco Goya
Francisco José de Goya, a Romantic painter born and raised in Spain, was one of the most gifted and
versatile artists of the 1800s. Goya found great success as a painter, becoming first painter to King
Charles IV and amongst royal court. He retained this position for quite a while, affording him the
ability to foraying into etching and printing in his personal time. It s his explorations here, in a series
called Los Caprichos that indicate the early signs of Goya s fascinations with the macabre. Prior to
1808, Goya s private studies would have been considered a peculiarity. Often sadistic and sinister in
their subject matter. Unbeknownst to the Spanish people, it was soon to become a harsh reality. May
second and third, 1808, the Napoleonic army invaded Spain and then proceeded to unjustly execute all
Spaniards suspected of involvement in the uprising. Already 62 years old and in poor health at the
time of the initial invasion, this left a profound impact on Francisco José de Goya. He began

meaning in Goya s works in a documentary on BBC in 2016. Jake Chapman argues that Goya s works
are far more radical than conventional history allows. Rather than illuminate the recesses of the human
soul, Goya Propels us into an irredeemable gloom. (Chapman 1:55) An fascinating notion that opens

Comparing Doerr s Obsession With Birds
Both Anthony Doerr s All the Light We Cannot See and Emily Dickinson s Hope is the the thing with
feathers make use of bird imagery. Doerr s novel follows the parallel lives of a blind French girl and a
young German boy, as their lives intertwine as World War Two unfolds around them. Frederick, a
character in All the Light We Cannot See, exhibits an obsession with birds, which reflects his desire
for freedom. His desire is never satisfied, as his character meets a restricting, dismal future. The
speaker in Hope is the the thing with feathers describes the bird s attributes, which are parallel to that
of hope. Doerr and Dickinson both utilize birds as symbols, but each for dissimilar concepts. Doerr

Sociological Theories and Theorists
Origins of sociological thinking can be traced to the scientific revolution in the late seventeenth and
early eighteenth century (Kendall 11). In this time, great store was put on one s possession of critical
reasoning and experiences. In France the Enlightenment was dominated by a group called
philosophes; these men believed that human society could be improved through scientific discoveries
(Kendall 11). In France during this time period women were excluded from public life, but some
women were able to influence the philosophes by participating in a salon which is much like an open
house which encouraged discussion and debates. During these salon s the men typically viewed the

Weber, Max 1864 1920: He was a German social scientist who was also concerned about the changes
brought about by the Industrial Revolution. Max s significance was considerable among German
scientist. Little of his work was published during his lifetime because most of his work was restricted
to scholarly specialist; his work had more of an impact after he died (Biography). He believed that
values could not be separated from the research process; he stressed that sociology should be value
free, that the researcher should not let his/her personal interest influence the outcome (Kendall 19).
Georg Simmel 1858 1918: Georg Simmel is best known for his contribution to sociology and
philosophy. He thought the main purpose of sociology should be to examine these social interaction
processes within groups (Kendall 20). He concluded that interaction patterns differed between a dyad
a social group with two members and a triad a social group with three members; he developed an
approach that focuses attention on the recurring social forms called Formal Sociology (Kendall 21).
From 1889 to 1909, Georg Simmel fostered the German Sociological Association into existence.
However, he lamented that he was seen as a sociologist. Simmel considered sociology as an ancillary
field of study to that of philosophy. He became the

The Importance Of Hazards
Hazards rise from two main sources such as natural (e.g. hydrological, climatological, oceanic,

reduce their vulnerability to catastrophic events and point of confinement their financial presentation

2.1 Objective
This study will focus to analyse the current insurance market trends related to disaster risk in
developing countries where majority of global economic losses experienced and the ways to improve
the risk financing practices and insurance market links to disaster risk management.
3. Disaster risk management and insurance industry
According to UNISDR (2009), disaster can be defined as a serious disruption of the functioning of a
community or a society involving widespread human, material, economic or environmental losses and
impacts, which exceeds the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own
resources. Disaster risk is the combination of likelihood of a catastrophic event occurring; the
exposure to the affected areas; and vulnerability of the affected communities or country (Global
Reinsurance Forum, 2014). The impacts of disaster risk include not only loss of life and physical
damages but also increase the potential outbreak of secondary hazards such as diseases and negative
effect on physical, mental and social wellbeing of human being, services, social, economic and
environment sectors. Disaster risk management include avoiding or mitigating the potential of hazard
occurrence and exposure and reducing the vulnerability level by strengthening the tangible and
intangible capacities.
There are three risk management techniques such as

The Political System Of The United States
Roger Darlington has said that the United States is the most powerful nation on earth; politically,
economically and militarily(1). Even though the U.S. is the second largest democracy in the world,
India being the first, it is considered rare, compared to other systems in the world. Where did the
founders of the U.S. get their ideas for the political system we have today? The U.S. political system
is made up of many components and there are several factors the contributed to what the U.S. political
system is today. Such as, where the foundations of the U.S. government came from, the American idea
of government, the characteristics of American society and political culture, and the values and
principles of American democracy.
The founding fathers were wise and had great experience in politics and government, however they
could not produce ideas for a political system of a country by just using their wisdom and experience.
The founding fathers needed to look at history to find some answers. One aspect that the founding
fathers explored was the government systems of ancient Greece and Rome. Aristotle and the Greeks
were the first to propose the idea of natural law. The system of direct, rather than representative
democracy, was developed in Athens, Greece. In Athens, citizens directly governed themselves. They
were allowed to participate in debates, voting, and law making. The next part of history that the
founding fathers observed was the philosophers that lived during the

How Art Follow One Of The Five Formal Elements Of Art
All aspects of art follow one of the five formal elements of art. The elements are line, shape, texture,
color, and balance. Some elements are subdued, but some paintings have elements that are very
obvious. With the artists use of these elements he states what his style is, as well as, the use of
medium, and color that directs the viewer s eye to a specific area of the painting. I will choose
paintings to show these elements, how they are used, and what idea the artist is trying to show, and
give my impressions.
The first element I will address is shape. There are regular shapes that are geometric and irregular
shapes that show motion. I have chosen, for shape, Little Yellow Horses by Franz Marc, shown on
page 829. This painting was completed in 1912. The medium is oil on canvas in the Expressionism
style. It is currently displayed at Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart, Germany.
Here we have a painting of three yellow horses with exaggerated curvature and is composed of open
circles. The artist saw yellow as a happy color and thought animals were more beautiful than man. The
curves are accentuated by the black manes of the horses. The two front horses have an added open
circle with their heads being down. The horse in the background has just a slight curve of his back and
the arc of his mane. In this work, at first glance, is a sea of yellow, black and circles. Upon a closer
look, the artist shows the beauty of the horse. The yellow along with the blue and pink

Understanding By Design Analysis
In order to create validity teachers must make sure that we align our curriculum to the standards we
teach. So how do we align the curriculum? To start off, alignment means the interrelationship between
the standards, assessment, and instruction we teach. To achieve this, we need to follow the goal of
alignment. The goal is student understanding. As teachers, we need to make sure we make meaning of
life s big ideas and transfer those big ideas. To accomplish the alignment goal, Grant Wiggins and Jay
McTighe had designed an alignment tool that creates validity in the classroom. The alignment tool is
called Understanding by Design (UbD). UbD looks at the teacher s role as a coach for making

stage is, What do I want them to understand? The main concept to focus on in the first stage is
Standards. To organize instructional units and plan appropriate classroom activities, teachers must
unpack the standards that is, determine the various components in a meaningful sequence of learning
steps (Guskey, 2005). The first step to unpack the standards was to look at the content standards and
find the big ideas. When I had to look at my content standards, I found it easy to locate. I used the
Pennsylvania Department of Education: Standards Aligned System (SAS) to locate them but because
Family and Consumer Sciences Standards are so board but yet limited, it became difficult. I was only
able to use part of the standards towards my unit. I had to pick and choose which standards will work
the best in my unit. Once I found the right standards, I would figure out the big idea, which in my case
was Meal Planning . The second step is to take my big idea and turn it into enduring understanding
statements, also known as adult speak . Enduring understanding statements should be something that
is important to know as an adult. For my enduring understanding, I decided to write: What I want
students to understand about Meal Planning is to effectively use meal management principles in
everyday life . The third step is to create essential questions. Essential question is also known as kid
speak . This is something that is important to know now as a student and should be relevant and
engaging. For my essential question, I decided to write: What goes into meal planning? This essential
question has many different aspects the students will need to know about the topic and can be used in
future lessons and activities. The final step to this stage is

retreated, they left behind large amounts of glacial meltwater and various landforms, still present
today. The Wisconsin glaciation started in Minnesota about two million years ago. The parts missed
by the Wisconsin glaciation were the Southwestern and Southeastern corners of Minnesota. There are

zombie suddenly approaches them, the zombie is considered monstrous, a monstrosity; a monster.
Zombies do not fit in the normative expectations for human beings. How and when these zombies
deviate from the expectations for humans is the great question. When does a zombie become a
zombie? The moment of conception for a zombie is when they lose their consciousness: the essence of
self. To the modern person, zombies are known as the flesh eating, gory looking corpse of a human
being that is searching the world for brains and bodies. This allusion of what a zombie is comes from
the recent decade s depiction of them in our culture. Movies Shaun of the Dead (2004), Zombieland
(2009), and popular television series The Walking Dead (2010 present) all portray zombies to be a
menace to society. They are aimlessly roaming the world in search of food, which coincidently
happens to be humans, and often killed by humans in fear of their safety. None of these depictions of
zombies tell us what a zombie actually is. A zombie can be defined in countless ways. The author
Robert Kirk looks at zombies in a philosophical manner, allowing us to view them in a way similar to
humans.
Philosophical zombies are exactly like us in all physical respects, right down to the tiniest details,

Reflections On Sandbox Time . Results. As A Part Of The
Reflections on Sandbox Time Results As a part of the Professional Development training, we
introduced tangible technologies to the teachers of a university funded preschool. We presented KIBO,
Cubetto, Sphero and Puzzlet to the teachers. While KIBO and Cubetto are screen free tangible
technologies, Sphero and Puzzlet are accompanied by an Ipad. After we introduced the tangible
technologies, we asked eight teachers to ponder the ways of implementing these tangible technologies
to their current projects or their classroom settings. The teachers wrote their ideas of utilizing those
tangible technologies to post its, which were then placed on poster paper and displayed. Each of the
teachers was able to keep the focus of the activities on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Similarly, Cubetto was suggested to use for creating a route for delivery and a map with pictures could
be used and the students could have Cubetto deliver mail to each of the pictures. The participants
additionally suggested to utilize Sphero as well as using the chariot as a way to transport items from
place to place. Their ideas for Puzzlet are focused on an overview of geography a way to practice
following directions and physically acting the directions out. Like the utilization of the tangible
technologies with the Mail and Post Office project, the teachers also pointed out that the tangible
technologies could also be used to solve a labyrinth or a maze. Another part of Geography that was
focused on was the ability Sphero and Cubetto have to move around. For both tangible technologies,
exploration and underwater retrievals were mentioned as ways to use the tangible technologies to go
where the students or people may be unable to physically go to themselves. These tangible
technologies were also thought of as being able to assist in natural disaster rescues where both could
navigate rubble in an area. Math The participants additionally considered utilizing the motion skill of
the tangible technologies on the subject area Math. For instance, the teachers noted to utilize Sphero

Immanuel Kant The Gale
Following my first naïve encounter with Homer Winslow s The Gale, the painting I selected to adopt
over the course of the semester, it became time to analyze the work using the various philosophers
read in class in an attempt to uncover new thoughts or ideas regarding the appreciation and
examination of the artwork selected. The first of these philosophers happened to be Immanuel Kant,
the famous and influential German enlightenment thinker. Throughout his work The Critique of
Judgment, Kant tries (with elaborate and often confusing explanations) to describe his reasoning
regarding the types of contemplative judgments made by humans, and the innate differences between
them. Kant states, that in addition to a judgment of taste (the beautiful),

The Events And Encounters I Experienced On My Practicum
Introduction The purpose of the following report is to discuss the events and encounters I experienced
on my practicum. I completed my practicum with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, based out of
Lethbridge, AB. I completed five, eight hour shifts, totaling to 40 hours. I had the opportunity to ride
along with two different peace officers. This allowed me to see two different perspectives and ways of
thinking with regards to the commercial vehicle job. I completed by practicum on the following dates
and times: January 22, (2016) 1400 2200. January 23, 24 (2016) 1000 1800, and February 6, 7 (2016)
0700 1500. For the duration of my practicum we patrolled many different areas and counties. We were
not restricted to a small district and had freedom to move about the Lethbridge district as we saw
necessary.
Communication
I observed many different styles of verbal and non verbal communication throughout my practicum.
On one of the very first traffic stops myself and John Remus, the officer I rode along with, made was
due to a license plate not being visible. I noticed some key aspects of non verbal communication.
Upon approaching the window of a large semi truck we were met with a young man who was clearly
nervous and unaware of the reason for the stop. John stepped up onto the running board of the semi
and introduced himself and his occupation. John then notified the young man of the reason for the stop
and asked for the license and registration for the truck. John s

Summary Of Me Talk Pretty One Day
In David Sedaris s essay Me Talk Pretty One Day he writes about his first experiences in France with
classmates and sarcastic teacher. Sedaris explains how his teacher would intimidate and belittle every
student. Sedaris attempts to persuade the audience by making them feel certain emotions by describing
how he and his classmates felt when his teacher minimize them all. It appealed to ethics by the
methods his teacher used to teach his classmates French. It told the audience that even though
insulting someone in a different language is an eccentric way of teaching them that language.
However, that way the teacher taught the students how to speak French. But, the excerpt did not
appeal to logical because it gave a better connection to the readers through emotions and ethics with
his colorful imagery that is clearly seen throughout the text. In the essay, Sedaris uses the English
language in a calculated manner and he uses the words themselves, both real words and gibberish, not
simply to tell the story to the audience but also to put into words the confusion his teacher left when
he couldn t understand the language being spoken to him. The devices of theme, conflict, tension,
detail, description and characterization, are given as well to show us Sedaris s own character arc. ...

Tragic Comedy In Catch-22
You can t stop flying unless you re crazy; you cannot not stop flying if you re sane; and the only
people who want to fly are crazy. This absurd logic, hilarious at first, is the root of Catch 22, and is but
one such absurd joke among many in the book. In Catch 22, Joseph Heller employs comedy to
illustrate how initially comical characteristics can, when pulled to the extremes, lead people to enact
cruelties. Many of the most memorable moments of Catch 22 are indisputably hilarious. One such
example is Colonel Cathcart, an indecisive squadron leader obsessed with his own self image. Plagued
by constant doubts about his every choice, Colonel Cathcart oscillates rapidly and randomly between
relying on his subordinate Colonel Korn for advice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In retrospect, Colonel Cathcart s blatant goalpost manipulation isn t funny anymore once you consider
that all the deaths it causes had no other reason than pointless posturing. In fact, upon seeing its
results, his actions are sickening. When has it ever been funny to give soldiers hope of returning home
just to snatch it away? Why were we laughing at this tragedy? The darker implications of Cathcart s
actions reflect twistedly on the humor of those first scenes. These cherished, humorous moments of
the book cannot be laughed at anymore without a sense of unease. This evolution of scenes is
especially clear with the novel s name. The Catch 22 in the beginning is but a series of elaborate and
absurd paradoxes. Yossarian cannot go home until he reaches the required number of missions, but the
required number of missions always increases. It s impossible to enter Major Major s office if he s in
it, but you can talk to him in his office when he s not in the office. The initial uses of Catch 22 is that
of a comedic device that revels in the absurdity of the world. Our ability to twist logic for our own
means entertains us in the novelty of what can result from it. As the book draws to a close, however,
Catch 22 starts being used with a distinctively different connotation, shown when Yossarian escapes to
Rome. There, upon entering the

The Importance Of The Sea Otters
Did you know that the endangerment or eventual extinction of a species affects other animal
extinction and eventually affects human well being? One such species is the sea otter. The sea otter
has an important role in the ecological preservation of pacific kelp forests.
Sea Otters contribute towards the overall health and well being of the ecosystem they inhabit. The sea
otter is an important predator in the nearshore marine ecosystem of the North Pacific Ocean. It is
considered a keystone species in the ecosystem. They limit the prey populations of a variety of marine
invertebrates that reside near the shore. Sea otters have large scale community effects disproportionate
to their abundance. (Carswell and Long, 2). Their main prey consists of sea urchins and abalone. Sea
urchins and abalone devour the kelp forests that run along the coasts of California. Sea otters
contribute to kelp production by eating these invertebrates, thus where there are sea otters, kelp forests
spread along the continental shelf. The California kelp forests have the greatest biodiversity of the
temperate latitudes (Recarte) Kelp forests are the Ocean s rainforest (Recarte). Sea Otters are
considered a sentinel species, which means their fitness reveals the health of the ecosystem.
Contaminants in the ocean have a large effect on Sea Otters. These contaminants cause
biomagnification because of the lack of enzymes to break down and expel the toxins. Examples of
contaminants that affect Sea

Sadly, the partners feel differently, as this pet is a member of their family, one that cannot be replaced.
Intense emotions tend to be on display during this time and animals may serve as a bargaining chip
during the process. Thankfully, the state of New Jersey recognizes that pets have special subjective
value during this process, thus the courts work to find a pet custody agreement using a manner similar
to that used for child custody issues.
A 2009 Appellate Decision led to this change in New Jersey Law. Factors considered when
determining pet custody include who primarily cared for the animal, taking it to the vet, feeding it and
walking it, among other things. In cases where matters of child and pet custody are involved, the court
tends to set an custody schedule that coordinates with the custody schedule of the child or children,

A divorce attorney needs to remain focused on the best interests of his or her client at all times, even
in matters of pet custody. As these matters can be quite complex and difficult, an individual should

Textual Analysis Of Shrek
Animation has, in the past, generally been viewed by children, because of its childlike nature. In
recent years, animated film has broaden its audience with its caricaturized humor towards adults. With
its powerful, heart rendering, and emotive storyline, I believe that the animated film Shrek, has
captured many of its viewers hearts; and also prompted many concepts after it has been viewed, for
example that love is for anyone. Sound, editing, and setting, are some of the filmic elements that really
helped in establishing the plausibility of the story of animated film Shrek. Love, friendship, and
happiness is repeated throughout the film, to ensure that viewers recognize it as being the theme of the
story.

There are many factors that work together to create rhythm: physical objects moving on the screen, the

Corn Vs Eating Corn
Eighty five percent of the corn produced in the United States is genetically modified. Scientists take
genes from one plant or animal and insert them into the DNA of another. Should the people that are

Honor Shame Code in The Tale of Heike In The Tale of Heike, the way in which the Japanese viewed
defeat and dying is revealed to the reader through various incidents covered during the time of the
novel. To be defeated was shameful but to prevail was a way to gain respect and honor. The accounts
in Heike tell us that one could defeat an opponent by exiling him, insulting him, or even taking
revenge upon him. Because being defeated was shameful, warriors would kill themselves before being
killed by the opponent. If a warrior failed in his duty, suicide would be the necessary measure taken to
regain honor. Not only could suicide be a way to gain honor, it could also be a way to shame someone.

Munetaka was ordered by Yoshitsune to shoot the fan right square in the middle (420), but Munetaka
hesitated to accept the order saying, if I missed, we d never outlive the disgrace (420). Not able to
refuse the angered Yoshitsune, Munetaka preparing to shoot closed his eyes in silent prayer saying,
Let me hit the center of that fan! If I miss, I ll smash my bow and kill myself I ll never show my face
again (420). Munetaka knew that his failure would disgrace the Genji and his suicide would be the
only way of recompense. Heike also reveals that another way to defeat your enemy and another way
to be shamed by your enemy was through humiliation. Kiyomori often humiliated his enemies. He
exiled Naritsune, Yasuyori, and Shunkan to Kikai ga shima, a faraway island, because they were
conspiring against the Taira. Later, only Naritsune and Yasuyori were pardoned but Shunkan was not.
This was Kiyomori s revenge on Shunkan because Kiyomori had given Shunkan his job and still had
the nerve to betray him (290 291). Through exile, Kiyomori shamed Naritsune, Yasuyori, and Shunkan
by denying them the opportunity to commit suicide but sentencing them to death by starvation. Insults
were another way to shame your enemy. Nakatsuma passive aggressively denies Munemori the chance
to ride Konoshita, his horse, by saying the horse was tired from having been overridden (306). When
Munemori found out that was a lie, he had been humiliated. To take revenge he seized Konoshita,

Pantene Advertising Analysis
Strong is Beautiful is the slogan that Selena Gomez is promoting in her Pantene advertisement in

The Outrageousness of The Battle of Little Bighorn
The Battle of Little Bighorn is considered to be one of the biggest blunders in American military
history. It is also believed to be one of the most unfair decisions made by the military because of the
fact that it was extremely discriminatory to the Native Americans that lived in the region of the Black
Hills in South Dakota. The rights of Native Americans has been an ongoing issue ever since the
pilgrims started making their settlements on Indian land. Indians had finally had enough of the
Americans taking their land and in June of 1876, a bloody battle took place that would never be
forgotten.
Before the battle was even thought of, the Lakota Sioux and the Cheyenne Native Americans were
outraged that the new settlers were starting to violate their sacred lands. They lived in and around the
Black Hills in South Dakota and near Montana. They were native to that land and believed it was their
birthright. They didn t want it for the gold or precious minerals in the mountains. Their ancestors had
lived there in generations before and they wanted their children to live there for generations to
come. The Sioux had signed a treaty with the American government saying that their sacred grounds in
the Black Hills would be respected, which they were, up until gold was found in the area and
American citizens flocked to the sacred lands of the Indians to strike it rich in the Black Hills.
Although the treaty had promised them rights to the lands, the U.S. government ordered the Native

Acupuncture In Ancient China
INTRODUCTION
In ancient China, life revolved around superstitious beliefs and doctrine stemming from the idea that
balance and harmony were factors commanding regularity. In encompassing the human body, the
beliefs, now labeled as traditional Chinese medicine, were primarily used to explain health and
disease, and therefore were incorporated into medicinal practices. Ancient Chinese acupuncturists not
only utilized these medicinal beliefs for remedial reasons, but for some, it was used for destruction as
well. These acupuncturists were the early martial artists in China, using their medical knowledge in
confrontations to defend themselves and leave their opponents with drastic injuries. From their healing
art, came the theory and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Western medicine, acupuncture is based on the ancient beliefs of China rather than modern
scientific research. Although its roots are ancient, acupunctural treatments are proven to resolve pains
and symptoms, perhaps even better than the use of modern Western treatments.
KEEPING WITH TRADITION In traditional Chinese medicine, the human body is healthy only when
its internal state is in harmony and balance. The disruption of this internal balance, however, causes
for disease and illnesses. According to Dillman and Thomas, The body is understood as a wholly
interactive, interrelated, and integrated organism. The health of each part of the body depends on the
wellness of the whole (Advanced 34). Due to the holistic view of the body, only one diseased part of
the whole organism can disrupt balance and affect other internal parts of the body as well.
Subsequently, balance within the whole body is promoted within Chinese medicinal beliefs. A central
concept of Chinese medicine is the theory of yin and yang, which embodies the complete notion of the
balance necessary for health. The East Asian concept of Yin Yang suggests that all transformation
occurs by the constant interplay of two opposing and at the same time harmonious forces. . . . They are
expressed as yin, (yielding) and yang, (firmness) (Morales 27). Both forces are composed of

Levi Strauss
Levi Strauss at Home and Abroad As one attempts to assess the business ethics of Levi Strauss and
Nike in this writing assignment, we are again compelled to revisit the critical distinction of conduct
that is legal, yet still unethical. In both instances, Levi Strauss and Nike behaved with the parameters
of legal conduct, yet few would argue that profiting from exploitive work conditions is an ethical
behavior of any socially responsible organization (broad view social responsibility). Obviously, it s
very tempting to just condense this argument to the point of bad companies boosting profits from
lower labor costs via exploiting foreign workers in sweatshops . I am going to take a much broader
approach here in my assessment, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end result of this ruling is that corporations that profit greatly from outsourced labor are now able
to pay for the elections of our Congressmen and gee, wonder how this economic favor will be repaid
when attempts to rein in outsourcing come up in Congress? Let s move on to our two protagonists in
this debate: Levi Strauss and Nike. Now that we ve got the backdrop well in hand, and a reasonable
person would agree that a massive systemic failure in the U.S. has allowed and promoted unchecked
outsourcing of jobs, it s time to discuss these two corporate giants and their respective behaviors here.
Do these two corporations have a responsibility to monitor the conduct of the companies they do
business with in particular, their contractors and suppliers? As a personal believer in the broader view
of corporate social responsibility, I believe that they do. Notwithstanding the fact that all of this
outsourcing is legal, and despite the mitigating factors that I ve argued above that do alleviate these
two companies of all of the blame I still believe that they need to take the higher moral ground. Levi
Strauss overall has conducted itself with far greater corporate social responsibility than Nike has, in
my judgment. Strauss for many years withdrew from China due to their notoriety as a non democratic
country with abusive labor conditions.

The Moon Landing Conspiracy Theory

regarding the 9/11 attacks, presidential assassinations, Area 51, Jimmy Hoffa, the English crown and

Apparently there are people who believe the entire moon landing was a hoax. They believe that we did

Conspiracy theorists have also argued that there should have been a freshly gouged crater where the
lunar module s descent engine blasted into the lunar soil. However Bizony rebuffs this myth by
explaining that the powdery lunar soil was disturbed by the downward pointing jet of the exhaust, but
the thrust was not enough to create a crater in the topsoil, much less even be able to penetrate the hard
rocky substrate (Bizony, It was all a fake, right?, 2009). The website, moonlandinghoax.org explains
that the lunar module had six foot long landing probes under the foot pads and when they registered
contact the engines would stop firing and the module would fall gently the rest of the way (Moon
landing hoax). Since the engines stopped firing approximately six feet before landing, there was not
enough blast pressure to create a crater. The article stated that a firecracker would have more power
than the engines did after they ceased to fire (Moon landing hoax). The conspiracy theorists have even
gone as far to say that NASA even murdered astronauts in order to help keep this monumental hoax a
secret. One of these instances included the accidental deaths of three astronauts; Ed White, Roger

  • 2. Imbalance In Lord Of The Flies Analysis Imbalance is at the center of mayhem As the French philosopher Baron de Montesquieu believed, a system of checks and balances of power are necessary to have a society. William Golding had written the Lord of the Flies, a book about a group of young boys stranded on a island needing to find ways of survival. His book portrays how Montesquieu s idea of checks and balances are needed to make an ideal community. On the island, Jack and Ralph were the two boys that seemed most fit to be leaders among these stranded boys and at first the island was a safe place for living, until Jack gains more and more control where the levels of authority are not equal. With Jack having most of the control, there is an absence of balance and this absence of balance between powers on the island causes the boys turn to savagery and chaos. Golding writes of the boys failing to have a mindset of surviving together by living their life on the island with an imbalance of power to govern themselves and by having this imbalance, the boys kill each other and destroy the island to rise in dominance, which is what Montesquieu predicted would happen if there was no checks of power and balance between sides. In the Lord of the Flies, Golding shows how the boys on the island fail to govern themselves since Jack s authority grows too fast and Ralph can t limit him. Golding s book agrees with how Montesquieu believed having three branches of leadership ideally keeps the governmental system balanced. There are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Professional Organizations Were Created To Assist In The Professional organizations were created to assist in the growth and development of a profession (Black, 2014). For example, nurses use organizations to improve health and working conditions that result in changing the way health is delivered to a population (Black, 2014). These organizations allow individuals to express their opinions on current issues, enhance their knowledge of the profession, and facilitate relationships with other individuals that share the same interest and concerns. To get a better understanding of these groups, I explored the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) website to see what information I could collection. The APNA is an independent organization that was created 30 years ago with the hope of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reading through the APNA s website I would have to say I agree with the APNA s goal, which is to help individuals and their loved ones understand the prevention, diagnosis, and recovery of psychiatric patients, by being recognized as the expert voice for psychiatric mental health nursing (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). The APNA organization started with 600 members and has now grown to nearly 10,000 members that are interested in or apart of the mental health nursing practice (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). While looking though the website, I could not found a specific breakdown of the number of members, but the site did stated, APNA supports and serves the interests of psychiatric mental health nurses both nationally and internationally (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). Members of this association are automatically assigned to their state s chapter (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). Virginia s chapter page has very little information compared to other state chapters, but from the information I gathered, this chapter is not local active in the Hampton Roads Community. This organization puts lots of energy into advancing research to improve the techniques of identifying mental health issues (American Psychiatric Nurses Association, 2015). With earlier detection, psychiatric nurse clinicians will be able to promote the proper health and wellness to those on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Jainism Essay The religion of Jainism has many components that are said to be very similar with certain parts of Hinduism as well as Buddhism. The Jain religion is most popular in India where it was first found. There are millions of Jain people around the world. Jainism first started in ancient East India. The success of this religion all comes down to the 24 Jinas. Jinas are those who overcome or conqueror. The first Jina is believed to have been a giant around 8.4 million years ago (Robinson, 2010). The most recent, and last, was named Vardhamana (also known as Mahavira or The Great Hero). He is known to be the founder of the Jain community. Jainism was very different from things that the regular community was used to. It went up against the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Karma does not have any meaning on its own, it comes to affect when it gets attached to the soul (Karma, 2009). This karma gets attached to the soul when Jains do not follow five main beliefs. Jain followers were expected to follow certain actions during their everyday life. These included Ahimsa (no violence mental, physical or verbal), Satya (speaking the truth), Asteya (not stealing from others), Brahma charya (remaining faithful to one spouse only), and Aparigraha (detach from ownership of places and materialistic things) (Robinson, 2010). The four vows where already established by the 23rd Jain, while Mahavira added in the 5th vow. After the vows had been set, Mahavira also asked his followers to shed all clothes. This meant that the Jain monks would be able to realize the feeling of absolute chastity and forget about all the pleasures of material life. Jainism is based on three principles: Right Faith, Right Knowledge, and Right Action. Before people of the Jain religion are able to become monks, they must pass through three other stages during their life time. These stages include Brahmacharya ashrama: the life of a student, Gruhasth ashrama: family life, Vanaprasth ashrama: family and social services and then anyast ashrama: life as a monk. The very early teaching of Jainism had first passed from generation to generation through oral traditions. A religious council would be held Pataliputra (present day Patna) in third century BC. I will choose paintings to show these elements, how they are used, and what idea the artist is trying to show, and give my impressions. The first element I will address is shape. There are regular shapes that are geometric and irregular shapes that show motion. I have chosen, for shape, Little Yellow Horses by Franz Marc, shown on page 829. This painting was completed in 1912. The medium is oil on canvas in the Expressionism style. It is currently displayed at Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart, Germany. Here we have a painting of three yellow horses with exaggerated curvature and is composed of open circles. The artist saw yellow as a happy color and thought animals were more beautiful than man. The curves are accentuated by the black manes of the horses. The two front horses have an added open circle with their heads being down. These cherished, humorous moments of the book cannot be laughed at anymore without a sense of unease. This evolution of scenes is especially clear with the novel s name. The Catch 22 in the beginning is but a series of elaborate and absurd paradoxes. Yossarian cannot go home until he reaches the required number of missions, but the required number of missions always increases. It s impossible to enter Major Major s office if he s in it, but you can talk to him in his office when he s not in the office. The initial uses of Catch 22 is that of a comedic device that revels in the absurdity of the world. Our ability to twist logic for our own means entertains us in the novelty of what can result from it. As the book draws to a close, however, Catch 22 starts being used with a distinctively different connotation, shown when Yossarian escapes to Rome. There, upon entering the ... • 27. The Importance Of The Sea Otters Did you know that the endangerment or eventual extinction of a species affects other animal extinction and eventually affects human well being? One such species is the sea otter. The sea otter has an important role in the ecological preservation of pacific kelp forests. Sea Otters contribute towards the overall health and well being of the ecosystem they inhabit. The sea otter is an important predator in the nearshore marine ecosystem of the North Pacific Ocean. It is considered a keystone species in the ecosystem. They limit the prey populations of a variety of marine invertebrates that reside near the shore. Sea otters have large scale community effects disproportionate to their abundance. (Carswell and Long, 2). Their main prey consists of sea urchins and abalone. Sea urchins and abalone devour the kelp forests that run along the coasts of California. Sea otters contribute to kelp production by eating these invertebrates, thus where there are sea otters, kelp forests spread along the continental shelf. The California kelp forests have the greatest biodiversity of the temperate latitudes (Recarte) Kelp forests are the Ocean s rainforest (Recarte). Sea Otters are considered a sentinel species, which means their fitness reveals the health of the ecosystem. Contaminants in the ocean have a large effect on Sea Otters. These contaminants cause biomagnification because of the lack of enzymes to break down and expel the toxins. Examples of contaminants that affect Sea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sadly, the partners feel differently, as this pet is a member of their family, one that cannot be replaced. Intense emotions tend to be on display during this time and animals may serve as a bargaining chip during the process. Thankfully, the state of New Jersey recognizes that pets have special subjective value during this process, thus the courts work to find a pet custody agreement using a manner similar to that used for child custody issues. A 2009 Appellate Decision led to this change in New Jersey Law. Factors considered when determining pet custody include who primarily cared for the animal, taking it to the vet, feeding it and walking it, among other things. In cases where matters of child and pet custody are involved, the court tends to set an custody schedule that coordinates with the custody schedule of the child or children, Simoni continues. A divorce attorney needs to remain focused on the best interests of his or her client at all times, even in matters of pet custody. Sound, editing, and setting, are some of the filmic elements that really helped in establishing the plausibility of the story of animated film Shrek. Honor-Shame Code in The Tale of the Heike Essay 11/28/12 HIST485 Honor Shame Code in The Tale of Heike In The Tale of Heike, the way in which the Japanese viewed defeat and dying is revealed to the reader through various incidents covered during the time of the novel. To be defeated was shameful but to prevail was a way to gain respect and honor. The accounts in Heike tell us that one could defeat an opponent by exiling him, insulting him, or even taking revenge upon him. Because being defeated was shameful, warriors would kill themselves before being killed by the opponent. If a warrior failed in his duty, suicide would be the necessary measure taken to regain honor. Heike also reveals that another way to defeat your enemy and another way to be shamed by your enemy was through humiliation. Kiyomori often humiliated his enemies. He exiled Naritsune, Yasuyori, and Shunkan to Kikai ga shima, a faraway island, because they were conspiring against the Taira. Later, only Naritsune and Yasuyori were pardoned but Shunkan was not. This was Kiyomori s revenge on Shunkan because Kiyomori had given Shunkan his job and still had the nerve to betray him (290 291). Through exile, Kiyomori shamed Naritsune, Yasuyori, and Shunkan by denying them the opportunity to commit suicide but sentencing them to death by starvation. Insults were another way to shame your enemy. Nakatsuma passive aggressively denies Munemori the chance to ride Konoshita, his horse, by saying the horse was tired from having been overridden (306). It is also believed to be one of the most unfair decisions made by the military because of the fact that it was extremely discriminatory to the Native Americans that lived in the region of the Black Hills in South Dakota. The rights of Native Americans has been an ongoing issue ever since the pilgrims started making their settlements on Indian land. Indians had finally had enough of the Americans taking their land and in June of 1876, a bloody battle took place that would never be forgotten. Before the battle was even thought of, the Lakota Sioux and the Cheyenne Native Americans were outraged that the new settlers were starting to violate their sacred lands. They lived in and around the Black Hills in South Dakota and near Montana. They were native to that land and believed it was their birthright. They didn t want it for the gold or precious minerals in the mountains. Their ancestors had lived there in generations before and they wanted their children to live there for generations to come. The Sioux had signed a treaty with the American government saying that their sacred grounds in the Black Hills would be respected, which they were, up until gold was found in the area and American citizens flocked to the sacred lands of the Indians to strike it rich in the Black Hills. Acupuncture In Ancient China INTRODUCTION In ancient China, life revolved around superstitious beliefs and doctrine stemming from the idea that balance and harmony were factors commanding regularity. In encompassing the human body, the beliefs, now labeled as traditional Chinese medicine, were primarily used to explain health and disease, and therefore were incorporated into medicinal practices. Ancient Chinese acupuncturists not only utilized these medicinal beliefs for remedial reasons, but for some, it was used for destruction as well. Although its roots are ancient, acupunctural treatments are proven to resolve pains and symptoms, perhaps even better than the use of modern Western treatments. KEEPING WITH TRADITION In traditional Chinese medicine, the human body is healthy only when its internal state is in harmony and balance. The disruption of this internal balance, however, causes for disease and illnesses. According to Dillman and Thomas, The body is understood as a wholly interactive, interrelated, and integrated organism. The health of each part of the body depends on the wellness of the whole (Advanced 34). Due to the holistic view of the body, only one diseased part of the whole organism can disrupt balance and affect other internal parts of the body as well. Subsequently, balance within the whole body is promoted within Chinese medicinal beliefs. A central concept of Chinese medicine is the theory of yin and yang, which embodies the complete notion of the balance necessary for health. The East Asian concept of Yin Yang suggests that all transformation occurs by the constant interplay of two opposing and at the same time harmonious forces. . . . Levi Strauss Levi Strauss at Home and Abroad As one attempts to assess the business ethics of Levi Strauss and Nike in this writing assignment, we are again compelled to revisit the critical distinction of conduct that is legal, yet still unethical. In both instances, Levi Strauss and Nike behaved with the parameters of legal conduct, yet few would argue that profiting from exploitive work conditions is an ethical behavior of any socially responsible organization (broad view social responsibility). Obviously, it s very tempting to just condense this argument to the point of bad companies boosting profits from lower labor costs via exploiting foreign workers in sweatshops . The end result of this ruling is that corporations that profit greatly from outsourced labor are now able to pay for the elections of our Congressmen and gee, wonder how this economic favor will be repaid when attempts to rein in outsourcing come up in Congress? Let s move on to our two protagonists in this debate: Levi Strauss and Nike. Now that we ve got the backdrop well in hand, and a reasonable person would agree that a massive systemic failure in the U.S. has allowed and promoted unchecked outsourcing of jobs, it s time to discuss these two corporate giants and their respective behaviors here. Do these two corporations have a responsibility to monitor the conduct of the companies they do business with in particular, their contractors and suppliers? As a personal believer in the broader view of corporate social responsibility, I believe that they do. Notwithstanding the fact that all of this outsourcing is legal, and despite the mitigating factors that I ve argued above that do alleviate these two companies of all of the blame I still believe that they need to take the higher moral ground.
