The cerebellum is located at the back of the brain below the cerebrum. Though small, it works hard controlling balance, movement, and muscle coordination. The motor area of the cerebrum, located from ear to ear, controls voluntary muscles and allows for activities like playing soccer. The brain stem connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls involuntary functions like breathing, digestion, and blood circulation that are necessary to stay alive. It tells the heart to pump more during exercise and the stomach to digest food.
