Due to the fact that women weren t viewed as equals during that time period, Wang
Lung treats his wife, O Lan, like a slave more than anything else. Regardless of this
fact, O lan endures the hardships of being a farmer s wife and living as a poor

cottage , like the storm. This is also true in their relationship, and I think this
comparative difference is a very effective image in putting across the sense of troubles
that she encounters because of her inadequacy.

I have a long love of sports and I want to be a sports journalist one day and that part
of me was almost instantly captivated by the way the author told this story and
allowed it to unfold. You could almost read this as an ESPN 30 for 30, except it

The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Simon is one of the major characters in the Lord of the Flies novel. Simon s
character seems to live by what is right as to the rest of the boys on the island. There
are many reasons and examples in the Lord of the Flies that have to do with Simon
being compared to Jesus Christ.
One reason Simon is called the Christ figure in Lord of the Flies is that he always
seems to commit to many selfless acts just like the Christ did. Simon, he chooses to
stay and help Ralph build huts then to go play with the other boys. Ralph gave
Simon a compliment by saying Simon. He Helps. All the rest rushed off. He s done
as much as I have . The author also shows that Simon is caring when Simon pulled
off the choicest from the endless, outstretched hands . Jesus Christ was very well
known to have been very caring and kind with children. Simon s carness and
unselfishness showed that Simon was being a Christ figure.
Another reason Simon is a Christ like figure is that he has mystical qualities like
Christ. A lot of things that Simon does are either very unusual or supernatural.

Mozart s Sonata k331
The first movement of Sonata K331 is comprised of a theme, six variations and a
coda. The theme comprises of 18 bars: four times four bar phrases with an extension
tacked onto the end. Mozart followed this strict binary theme but this does not mean
that the music is at all predictable; he uses different techniques to bring the best out of
this form, as detailed later. The extension is an example of Mozart surprising the
listener and enhancing the journey to the end of the theme. Each of the groups of four
bars ends with a cadence. This is periodic phrasing, one of many signatures of galant
musical style (also known as Viennese classical music) that had its emphasis on...
This could be countered by contrasting the first movement to the radically different
form later in the piece and by pointing out that the use of the two bar extension was
unusual and Mozart added this primarily to avoid becoming too predictable.
A piece lacking in continuity may also have several ideas that may only appear for
short periods in the piece or not work well together. However, Mozart uses the same
simple melodic ideas throughout this movement that does provide continuity. He
achieves this through using the melody within different textures and not using much
counterpoint at all.
Next is the question of tonal variety Mozart s use of chords and shape in the piece.
There is a good argument for the lack of tonal variety in the piece in the whole
Andante only one type of chromatic chord is used (in bar 12 of variations 1 4). Also,
Mozart s reliance on the tonic and dominant chords is evident; in the theme, over
75% of the chords are in the tonic (A major) or the dominant (E major).
However, as the variations progress, the listener can hear plenty of tonal structure to
ward off criticism. Right from the beginning of Variation 1 (bar 19) the theme is
decorated in the right hand with semi tonal appoggiaturas as well as contrasting semi

Digest 2010). The thirty eight years following that first onshore oil well would be
dedicated to searching for oil resources and by 1896 those who searched
accomplished what they set out to do (Congressional Digest 2010). They drilled in
an offshore well just off of Summerland, California (Congressional Digest 2010).
Oil had become an invaluable source of energy in America in 1910 and the people
of America had begun to invent better ways of getting oil (Congressional Digest
2010). The business expanded into the Gulf of Mexico in 1938 (Congressional
Digest 2010). In the 1940s, after the war, demand for oil rose and regulations on the
prices of oil became nonexistent (Congressional Digest 2010). The petroleum
industry continued to spread through open waters. By the 1950s oil became the
second largest revenue generator for the country (Congressional Digest 2010).
Advancements in technology resumed to progress and grow throughout the years
allowing for easier exploration and production of petroleum in deeper water
(Congressional Digest 2010). In 1969 crude oil was poured out into the Dos
Cuadras Field due to a rupture on Union Oil s Platform A (Congressional Digest
2010). This oil spill caused Congress to not only pass several laws such as the
National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Coastal Zone
