Aromatic plant
 introduction
 Aromatic plants uses because of their
pleasant smelling flowers or leaves, many of
them are also used for medicinal purposes.
 Essential oils are extracted from the aromatic
plants. Such essential oils have good
fragrance and most of them are medicinal
properties.
 An essential oil is concentrated, hydropholic
liquid containing volatile aromatic compounds
from plants.essential oils are also known as
volatile or ethereal oils .
Scop for aromatic plants
cultivation
 There are more than 1500 known aromatic plants
species serving as a source of raw materials for the
perfumery and cosmetics industry in india
 Out of total 1500 aromatic plant species ,nearly 500
aromatic plants species have been studied for their
chemical , aromatic and medicinal properties
 out of 500 aromatic plant species studied, nearly 50
species found commercial source of essential oils and
aroma chemicals. While less than 12 plants are used on
large scale in the industry

 Botanical name -Lavandula officinalis
 Family –Labiatae
 Lavender oil ,native of south europe ,
growing in highlands of kashmir.
 they are excellent for use in face and
toilet powders and fixative in soap
and shaving creams

 Botanical name – Rosa gallica var
 Family – Rosaceae
 it is not a symbol of beauty , love and
purity but one of the best materials for
production of high quality rose oil, rose
attar and rose water
 a wonderful skin toner especially for
dry,sensitive or aging skin .
 It has a calming effect for grief, resentment
anger and depression

 Botanical name – cymbopogon citratus
 Family- poaceae
 It is indigenous to india and grown in chennai ,
tamilnadu and karnataka . It is cultivated chiefly
in travancore and malabar.
 The leaves of this plant , yield the normal
essential oil containing75 percent of aldehydes (
chiefly citral).
 The oil is used for the synthesis of vitamin A
 The oil is used in many pharmaceutical
preparations,such as pain balm and
disinfectants

 Botanical name – Matricaria chamomile
 Family –Asterceae
 Chemical content –azalene, viscos oil

 German chamomile is widely used traditinal
and modern medicines .
 Blue essential oil is extracted chamomile has
great demand in international markets.
 Chamomile is grown in jamu , kashmir and
assam states
 It used in cosmatics, perfumery , drugs and
confectionary industries as flovoring agents

Aromatic plant  introduction  Aromatic plants uses because of their pleasant smelling flowers or leaves, many of them are also used for medicinal purposes.  Essential oils are extracted from the aromatic plants. Such essential oils have good fragrance and most of them are medicinal properties.  An essential oil is concentrated, hydropholic liquid containing volatile aromatic compounds from plants.essential oils are also known as volatile or ethereal oils .

Scop for aromatic plants cultivation  There are more than 1500 known aromatic plants species serving as a source of raw materials for the perfumery and cosmetics industry in india  Out of total 1500 aromatic plant species ,nearly 500 aromatic plants species have been studied for their chemical , aromatic and medicinal properties  out of 500 aromatic plant species studied, nearly 50 species found commercial source of essential oils and aroma chemicals. While less than 12 plants are used on large scale in the industry

Different types of aromatic plant Lavender oil  Botanical name -Lavandula officinalis  Family –Labiatae  Lavender oil ,native of south europe , growing in highlands of kashmir.  they are excellent for use in face and toilet powders and fixative in soap and shaving creams  Lavender oil is imported india from france.

Rose  Botanical name – Rosa gallica var  Family – Rosaceae  it is not a symbol of beauty , love and purity but one of the best materials for production of high quality rose oil, rose attar and rose water  a wonderful skin toner especially for dry,sensitive or aging skin .  It has a calming effect for grief, resentment anger and depression
  • 8. Lamongrass  Botanical name – cymbopogon citratus  Family- poaceae  It is indigenous to india and grown in chennai , tamilnadu and karnataka . It is cultivated chiefly in travancore and malabar.  The leaves of this plant , yield the normal essential oil containing75 percent of aldehydes ( chiefly citral).  The oil is used for the synthesis of vitamin A  The oil is used in many pharmaceutical preparations,such as pain balm and disinfectants

Chamomile  Botanical name – Matricaria chamomile  Family –Asterceae  Chemical content –azalene, viscos oil apigenine  German chamomile is widely used traditinal and modern medicines .  Blue essential oil is extracted chamomile has great demand in international markets.  Chamomile is grown in jamu , kashmir and assam states  It used in cosmatics, perfumery , drugs and confectionary industries as flovoring agents
