History of the ECCE Sector in Ireland
Introduction
I am going to discuss the following topics in my report. I am going to explain the historical
development of the ECCE sector in Ireland up to and including the present day. * Historical
development of the early childhood care and education * Current ECCE provision by the state *
Health and welfare * Equal opportunity legislation * Outline maintaining a quality ECCE environment
that complies with relevant regulations and standards

Historical development of the early childhood care and education
In the last 20 years Ireland has had a dramatic change in its society. Ireland has traditionally had a
laissez faire policy with respect to the childcare provision back in the day there was no such ... Show

* Free preschool year * Early start preschool programme * There is also the CCS scheme and the
CETS scheme.
The government have provided funding to child minding facilities for the following reasons that they
provide to the public free preschool year. They also have the early start preschool programme.
Free preschool year
The ECCE Scheme provides a free year of early childhood care and education for children of pre
school age. In general, children are eligible for the ECCE scheme if they are aged over 3 years 3
months and less than 4 years 7 months on 1 September of the year that they will be starting. The upper
age limit can be extended in some cases. The State pays a capitation fee to participating playschools
and daycare services. In return, they provide a pre school service free of charge to all children within
the qualifying age range for a set number of hours over a set period of weeks. In general, children only
qualify for ECCE in one school year. However, a child who has been assessed as having a disability
may be able to spread their free pre school year over 2 years

Essay on Genetics Are the Main Cause of Psychopathy
One of the things about these kids is that they don t pay attention to the deep emotions or the deep
concerns of other people. They can just look at it in the face and go whatever and move on. (Malcolm)
Whereas some may argue that psychopaths are developed more from their environment, the
characteristic traits and neurological data prove genetics are the main cause of psychopathy.
Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by a constellation of interpersonal, affective and
behavioral characteristics. (Harc, 1998) There are many personality traits that accompany those who
are considered to be a psychopath. High levels of aggression or delinquency, and antisocial behaviors
are all seen in youth with personalities correlating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subsequent studies in youth with conduct disorder show that the parents socialization with their
children has less of an affect upon the development of conduct problems, suggesting more genetic
significance in youth who are notably callous. (Dolan). Mental retardation, lower intelligence and
inability to learn basic communication and language skills have been reported in youth considered
psychopathic. Also reported is the severe psychopathy occurring from the youths parents. These
parents have issues such as extreme maladjustment, chronic alcoholism, and many incarcerations for
criminal acts. (Bezdjian). In order to confirm, tests have been made to assess psychopathic traits in
youth. These tests have been recreated from the adult versions. The psychopathy checklist is a scale
test used for youth ages thirteen to eighteen, it has the same factor structure as the adult PCL R test
from which it was created and focuses on interpersonal aspects of personality and chronic antisocial
structure. The psychopathy screening device is used for youth ages six to twelve, and is completed by
teachers or parents for validity reasons. The most widely used test is the youth psychopathic traits
inventory, which is a self report of fifty items which focus on core personality correlations of youth
and psychopaths. (Dolan).
Now researchers are focusing more on theories of the neurobiological basis of psychopathy. The two

Priceline Or Priceline.com ( Pcln )
Introduction
Priceline or Priceline.com (PCLN) is a travel agency that offers cruises, hotel rooms, airline tickets,
vacation packages, excursions and rental cars. The company s Name Your Own Price option offers its
customers an incredible proposition by allowing them to name their own price for any travel related
products or services. Priceline.com determines the lowest price it can accept, while the customer has
the discretion in the supplier selection. Priceline.com also provides a brand preserving sales service
that enables them to sell excess inventory without harming their existing retail pricing structure.
Priceline.com also has a more traditional travel sales model that allows customers to choose specific
suppliers and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Priceline operates as the middleman or broker bringing the two parties together in a seamless and
friendly manner. Priceline s revenue is a result of the difference between the Name Your Own Price
rate and the amount charged by the supplier for the service. Priceline also brings in revenues from a
more traditional travel agency model also available on its website. The oversaturation of the travel
industry has created never ending competition for Priceline. However, with the increase of
competition comes and increase of the amount of individuals willing to purchase products and
services over the internet. This positive relationship will help Priceline maintain its dominant market
share along with its unique and competitive business model and well known brand name.
Ownership and Management
All firms need skilled management to run properly and efficiently. The manager is in charge of
creating a firm s goals, plans to achieve said goals, and directing employees to successfully achieve
them. He/she must also recognize internal weaknesses and external threats. Forecasting potential
threats is included in external threats, and is vital to a firm s long run success. The role of a manager is
extremely demanding. Managers must have strong communication skills and an exceptional team first
mentality. The inherent characteristics and

Essay on David Hume’s Treatment of Mind
This paper critically examines Hume s argument against the knowledge/existence of substantival
mind. This denial is rooted in his epistemology which includes a theory of how complex ideas which
lack corresponding impressions are manufactured by the imagination, in conjunction with the
memory, on the basis of three relations among impressions: resemblance, continuity and constant
conjunction. The crux of my critique consists in pointing out that these relations are such that only an
enduring, unified agent could interact with them in the way Hume describes. I note that Hume
attempts to provide such an agent by invoking the activities of imagination and memory, but that it is
unclear where these belong in his system. After discussing the ... Show more content on

To demonstrate this, I will give first a brief rehearsal of Hume s epistemology in general, then as it is
applied specifically to the mind.
Hume s Epistemology
The great project of Empiricism, in its incipience, was to discover, in Locke s words, ...the original,
certainty, and extent of human knowledge... (1) In his Treatise of Human Nature, Hume is intent upon
developing a science of Man (2) which would acquaint us with the extent and force of human
understanding, and [which] could explain the nature of the ideas we employ, and of the operations we
perform in our reasonings. (3) Hume hoped that this Science of Man would serve as a solid foundation
for all other sciences, both natural and philosophical, and that it would ultimately eradicate conflicting
theories in all fields by defining the limits of human knowledge.
For Hume, all knowledge originates with experience, and all experience is of one s own perceptions.
We have direct knowledge only of perceptions, not of what the perceptions are of (if, indeed, they may
be counted as of anything); for the perception stands between the perceiving mind and its supposed
real world object. Hume says,
... tis impossible for us so much as to conceive or form an idea of any thing specifically different from
[our perceptions]. Let us fix our attention out of ourselves as much as possible: Let us chase our
imaginations to the heavens, or

Early Biblical Archeology Analysis
Early Biblical archeology focused on finding the monumental things that pointed directly to the
Biblical text and ignored the everyday things. Their goal was to find the holy grail. King and Stager
changed that goal, they began to focus what everyday life looked like to discover what life was like in
Biblical times. Archeology of Ancient Israel gives us the context in which the people of the Biblical
text lived, allowing us to grasp the meanings of the text. The Biblical text does not deceive you,
however they will not use it as a source. Archeology cannot bear the burden of proving the Bible since
it is not meant to do that. Their working assumption is that the Biblical text is only reliable if other
archeological proof shows up which includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is often a misjudgment leading interpreting the Bible incorrectly. Archeology shows us their
context which we need to rightly interpret the text. In 1 Kings 6 Solomon is building a temple. King
and Stager tell us that Temples were often built for divine worship and were not public, they were for
the king. The public would be only allowed in the courts of the Temple. There are not any remains of
Solomon s temple so they have used the descriptions in the Biblical text and Near Eastern Temples to
recreate the temple. The temple was rectangular and tripartite on an east west axis. There were
imported cedar panels that had carvings of cherubim, rosettes, and palmettes that was overlaid with
gold. Gold was the most expensive metal in Biblical times, which begins to show you how prosperous
Solomon was. The forests in ancient Israel were considerably larger than today. The cedar is a
pyramid shaped tree that grows in the mountains. It is known for its durability and signifies strength
and prosperity. The timber trade between Phoenicia and Israel sheds light on the architecture of the
time and also the commerce. A palmette is a stylized palm tree and is a favorite motif. The symbolism
is complex since it could be pointing to the tree of life in the creation story or it could be pointing to
Asherah the deity of fertility. Solomon was guilty of worshipping Asherah so it is likely that is what it
was symbolizing. This shows the complexity of Solomon as

Summary Of The Roaring 20s
The Roaring 20s begin. Having moved from Okawville, a town of 600, to East St. Louis, a city of
75,000, Charles and Elizabeth have adjusted to a different environment over the past nine years.
Charles is 72 years old and is still working as a crossing watchman for the L N Railroad. He cranks
down the guardrails when a train approaches his intersection at 15th and Lincoln Streets. Members of
his family are undoubtedly noticing that he is becoming more and more forgetful of the more recent
things that have happened or that have been talked about. His 53 year old wife, Elizabeth, is still
called Mamma by her adult children. Still living with his parents is their 29 year old son, George or, as
he is called by his family and friends, Duddle. An army veteran, he finds work, at least temporarily, as
an electrician. Also living here is Lizzie. Turning 22, she is the youngest of the Lorne children. She
has fully recovered from having undergone major surgery that has left her with only one kidney. L12)
(L32) (L51)
Charles and Elizabeth s oldest child is Rachel Hall. In 1920, thirty six year old Rachel is living with
her husband, Lorenzo, on 9th Street in East St. Louis. Her children, Grace, Irene, Charlie, and Corrine,
range in age from thirteen to nine. All are attending school. Although Lorenzo is employed as a
butcher at a meat packing house in National City, his salary is barely enough to cover the cost rent,
food, and clothing for a family of six. Despite going through the

Swot Analysis Of Bahamasair
Definition of S.W.O.T. Analysis
When examining the potential for a new business or product, a SWOT analysis can help determine the
likely risks and rewards. A SWOT analysis is an organized list of a business s greatest strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Strengths, which are the appearances of the business that give
it an advantage over others, and weaknesses, which are features that place the team at a disadvantage,
are internal to the company and can be changed over time but not without some work. Opportunities,
which are basics that the business could use to enhance its strengths, and threats, which are elements
in the environment that could cause concern for the business, are external and they are out there in the

audience on domestic female roles that Katharine finds both diminutive and regressive. June Cleaver
may not have been the news Katharine was anticipating, but it was equally informative. She very well
could have been a June type mother, or worse, her daughter could have been. This comedic television

Different Cultures That We May Encounter As Therapists
Thus far in the course we have learned how important it is to have basic knowledge on various
cultures that we may encounter as therapists. According to Choudhuri, Santiago Rivera, Garrett
(2012), culture is defined as the personification of a worldview through learned and transmitted
beliefs, religious and spiritual traditions, psychological processes, values, and practices. Moreover, it
is a way of life that is shaped by ecological, historical, economic, and political factors on a specific
group of people (Choudhur et al., 2012). I have learned culture goes beyond just race and ethnicity.
Culture can be seen in the way people dress, the type of food they eat, the medicines they use, their
religious practices, the people they chose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, there were only Spanish supermarkets, which are different than a Mexican market, which I
was interested to explore. From my understanding, in Philadelphia people of Spanish culture are
considered Dominican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, and other countries of Spanish decent. There are Puerto
Rican neighborhoods and Dominican neighborhoods but they all consider themselves part of the same
culture, which was interesting to me because in Texas, Mexicans were part of the Mexican culture and
Dominicans were a part of the Dominican culture.
Sources
In terms of sources, I happened to find two interesting articles exploring cultural components of a
Spanish supermarket. The first article I looked at was one that was a study of that what Spanish
consumers think about organic food. I choose this article because I was interested in exploring if
Spanish food can be healthy or organic. While I was in the market, I saw plenty of vegetables and
produce, but I was unsure if there were any organic products. The article explored the view of organic
food on the Spanish culture (Vega‐Zamora, Torres‐Ruiz, Murgado‐Armenteros, Parras‐Rosa, 2014). It
was viewed as higher value and more expensive product. Due to this view of organic food,
consumption is greatly impacted in the Spanish culture. Similar to the article above, I found another
article about Spanish culture and food,

Theme Of The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
An Elegant Flop by Boyne John Boyne was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1971 and studied Literature at
Trinity College, Dublin, and creative writing at the university of East Anglia, Norwich. He has
published nine novels for adults and four for a younger audience, all of which are actually published
in 47 different languages, including The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas
follows the story of a nine year old boy named Bruno who reluctantly moves out his comfortable
home in Berlin to Out With because of his Father s job. After being rather bored in his new dismal
house, and given no answers by neither his parents nor servants, he is forced to stay with his older
sister who is a constant pain in the neck along with a rather brooding Lieutenant. From his window
Bruno has seen countless men and boys huddled by the barbed wire fence, scared of something he just
doesn t understand, and they were all wearing the same blue striped pyjamas. After doing a little
forbidden exploration, he meets a boy his age but not quite his size. Yet Shmuel is not here to play

Each process of the life cycle of sugar cane is analyzed from different states. Sugar cane is best grown
where land is wet with easy access to additional water when compared to other crops like sugar beets

to irrigate in many cane growing areas. Around 60% of the sugarcane crop in Australia is irrigated,
compared with only 16% of the U.S. corn crop, and 7% of the U.K. sugar beet crop (Renouf,

Comparing One Flew Over The Cookoo s Nest And The Movie
In the 1950 s, clashes between communism and capitalism have dominated the decade. Although it
wasn t always easy, the United States experienced an important economic and home construction
growth. The fifty s weren t always easy but it made place to a lot of improvement in the US
government and in the society. In this text I will talk to you about the similarities and differences
between the novel One Flew Over the Cookoo s Nest and the movie. First of all, the story took place
in hospital in Oregon in the late fifty s and early sixty s. The World War II is still present in the
community s head. The hospital is a world of regulations, routine, and discipline in which Nurse
Ratched has a full control. Nurse Ratched also does all what she can to keep the outside world away
from the patients. Chief Bromden, the narrator, has been a patient in the Oregon psychiatric hospital
for ten years. Bromden suffers from paranoia and it is very easy to understand all along the story. In
the hospital, all the patient are men and they are all divided on a particular way. All the men that can
not be cured are together and all the others that can be cured and together too. The hospital is ruled by
Miss Rached, an army Nurse that is very mechanical. Everything starts when Randle McMurphy
enters the hospital. Bromden see s right away that McMurphy is not like the other patients. After

Great Expectations Manipulation Essay
Dickens Conveying of Receiving Great Expectations , in Great Expectations In the novel, Great
Expectations by Charles Dickens, the author conveys that the nature of coming into great expectations
and then expecting everything to be handed on a silver platter is rather negative, through displaying
how it makes people snobbish, brings them despair, and make them act foolishly. The protagonist,
Phillip Pip Pirrup, is a character who is a perfect demonstration of someone who is negatively affected
by their high expectations when they obtain lots of wealth. He exhibits the consequences of receiving

Behavioral Mimicry in Superior Subordinate Exchanges
Introduction
Communication extends far past the act of speaking. From the time we are born, we communicate
with the people around us without having language as a medium. Instead, babies convey their
thoughts, emotions, wants, and needs with their face and body. As babies turn into children, and
children into adults, this facet of communication is marginalized and body language seems to become
something far less important than spoken language. Subconsciously, however, the ways other s bodies
and faces are held have a great impact on the way people interpret words. One nuanced aspect of body
language is behavioral mimicry s place in forming bonds between people. This paper will discuss the
effects, and a potential application, of unconscious mirroring and mimicking in social interactions. To
clarify any confusion, usage of mirroring and mimicking are synonymous throughout the paper.
Unconscious mirroring would not be possible without body language. This unspoken communication
is most commonly split up into two classifications: facial cues, and bodily cues or movements.
Unfortunately, the complexity of human movements has yielded experiments that operationalize each
drastically differently. For simplicity, we will use Peter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tonya Harding s Attack On Nancy Kerrigan In 2003
Deception is not usually easy to detect, even if millions of eyes are watching the supposed deceiver.
This is especially true in the case of Tonya Harding. Harding is a former U.S. figure skater whose
reputation for being the first American woman to complete a triple axel is far overshadowed by her
assumed participation in an attack on fellow Olympic skater, Nancy Kerrigan in 1994. Harding and
Kerrigan both participated in the 1992 Olympics, where Kerrigan placed third in the figure skating
competition and Harding placed just behind her in fourth. The two women competed against each
other again in 1994 as they both fought for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Less than two months

However, most of the interviews that the public saw were conducted by television personalities or
reporters, not trained investigators. None of the interviewers appeared to impose cognitive load on
Harding. The questions were straightforward and did not pertain to any specific events. Most of the
interviewers questions pertained to Harding s personal feelings about the events; fabricating personal
emotions is less taxing than verifiable details or time and location specific events (Vrij et al., 2011).
The questions asked in interviews were also quite predictable and scripted. This allowed for Harding
to practice what she might answer to these questions and planned lies are more difficult to detect (Vrij
et al., 2011). Summary Although it is still not known if Harding was fully involved in the attack on
Nancy Kerrigan or if she had prior information about the attack, she was at least deceiving the public
by concealing information. Her assumed deception was and still is difficult to detect. This is because
there is no one cue that indicates deception. In addition, myths and biases, unobserved and misleading
cues, self deception, and a failure to use the cognitive approach could have further complicated the

Cecil The Lion Peter Singer Analysis
Remember Cecil the Lion? A lot of people were shocked, even outraged, when they heard about his
death at the hands of an American hunter in 2015. The response to the lion s death was so strong that
the guy who shot Cecil basically went into hiding until he issued an apology. Our society reacts with
horror when we hear about a majestic lion being shot or sacks of kittens being tossed into rivers, or
owners training their dogs to fight each other for sport. However, what is the difference between
killings Cecil and killing a duck, deer, cow, pig, or a chicken? How do we reconcile the strong feelings
many of us have about certain animals, mainly the cute ones like kittens and puppies, with the way we
actual use animals in our own lives?
Most of us think nothing about using non human animals for their meat, milk, or skins and not only do
we use animals in these ways, but using them as we do almost always harms them. A common method
for testing cosmetics, for example, involves restraining rabbits and putting the product into their eyes,

ancestors with horror and shame. Singer predicts that there will be a time when our descendants look
back on us and our treatment of non human animals with the same reaction. In a nutshell, Singer says,
If it s not okay to do it to a human, then it s not okay to do it to an animal either. You might think that

Research And Design Of A Experimental Design
Research and Design This study will use a true experimental design because it allows the researcher to
exercise better control over research variables. This design ultimately strengthens the inference of
causality. To prove with confidence that changes in the dependent variable were caused by the
independent variable rather than sampling error, the research design must meet three criteria
(Nieswiadomy, 2012). The three criteria are: 1) the researcher manipulates the experimental variable;
2) at least one experimental and one comparison group are included; and 3) the subjects are randomly
assigned to either group, (Nieswiadomy, 2012). A type of true experimental design is the posttest only
control group design. The posttest only design is appropriate for this study because the participants
will be randomly assigned to groups and will be given two different treatments, (Nieswiadomy, 2012).
The experimental group will receive clinically indicated replacement of their PIV while the
comparison group will receive routine PIV replacement every 72 96 hours. The posttest will include a
daily assessment for phlebitis up to 48 hours after removal. A randomized controlled clinical trial is
the most logical way to complete this study because it is concerned with a cause and effect
relationship using human subjects. This study cannot be blinded because of the nature of the
intervention. The patients and nursing staff will know after day four what group they are in. However,

The average monthly cost for childcare in Ontario for a toddler is approximately $773
(www.todaysparent.com). The Universal Child Care Benefit, therefore, does not cover the full cost of

Reasons Why Guns Should Be Banned
Violence is out of control, and guns are a major cause Should Guns Be Banned? introduction. This is a
belief many Americans now share. This belief is fueling a nationwide movement that could result in a
total prohibition on private gun ownership in the near future. Just imagine if every handgun owner was
made to dispose of their gun, how much more peaceful the U. S. or rather the world would be?
Ownership of private guns is being banned one step at a time.
The recently enacted Brady Bill mandates a national five day waiting period and background check
for all handgun purchases (Wollstein par. 1). Maryland has just passed a law that requires a state
license for any handgun purchase and limits purchases to one per month. Also, President Clinton
banned the importation of most foreign made, semiautomatic rifles (Reynolds 1). On February 28,
1994, Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen announced that several 12 gauge semiautomatic shotguns
were being reclassified in the same category as machine guns (Wollstein par. ). The Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms simultaneously announced that they would trace the owners of 18,000
of these shotguns and order them to be fingerprinted and to register their guns with the ATF within 30
days or face ten years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine (Wollstein par. 4). On the same day that
semiautomatic shotguns were reclassified, Senator Howard Metzenbaum introduced legislation that
would require all handgun owners to get a federal license, pass a safety test, and register their weapons
with police (Reynolds 3).
Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan has proposed legislation that would raise the tax on some
ammunition up to 10,000 percent. The price of a single box of Winchester 9 millimeter hollow tipped
cartridges would increase to $15,000( ). Would banning guns reduce crime? According to recent polls,
most Americans now support gun licensing as a way to reduce crime. Crime has certainly been
increasing particularly violent crime. Between 1960 and 1980, robberies nationwide increased by 300
percent. In the same period, both the number of handguns and the national murder rate doubled
(Wollstein par. ). But is the proliferation of guns the cause of violence or a response to violence?

The Purpose Of The Transcontinental Railroad
The Transcontinental Railroad
Have you ever seen a railroad? Well, there was a time when railroads were desperately needed. This
was the time of the Transcontinental Railroad. In my paper I will explain the purpose of the railroad,
challenges the workers faced, and the results of the finished railroad.
To start, I will explain the purpose of the Transcontinental railroad. In Source #1 Full Steam Ahead
The Transcontinental Railroad , it says People had been asking for coast to coast rail travel for
decades. Since the invention of the locomotive in 1825, companies had built many rail lines. These
railroads connected eastern cities and seaports, splashing travel times and helping these areas grow.
Crossing the country, however was much more difficult. People and trade goods traveled by horse,
stagecoach, or wagon train. The trip took months. Not many made the journey. So the government
during the time thought that building a railroad, would help businesses sprout up like corn. According
to Source #1 it also says Two companies immediately got to work. Railroads already existed that
stretched from the East of Omaha, Nebraska. Now, the Union Pacific Railroad began extending the
tracks from Omaha out to the West. The Central Pacific Railroad began in Sacramento,California and
laid tracks out East. Eventually, the two companies would meet in Promontory, Utah. So, basically the
purpose of the railroad was to get people and goods from coast to coast.

The Davis Service Group And Its Takeover Of Berendsen Essay
FIntroduction:
In this assignment we will look at the Davis Service Group and its takeover of Berendsen. We will
also discuss 2 ways a company can grow, what a company would consider if they were expanding
globally. We will look at which aspects of the European Union encouraged the horizontal growth of
the business as well as the differences between Organic and Inorganic growth. Lastly we will theorize
why the acquisition of Berendsen was a good opportunity for the Davis Service Group.
Describe two major ways in which a company can grow and include 2 examples. According to this
week s case study material a company can grow in the following ways. A merger or a Takeover.
A merger is defined by Investopedia as a deal to unite two existing companies into one new company,
Takeover Definition | Investopedia. (2003)
A takeover is defined by Investopedia as an acquiring company makes a bid for a target company, If
the takeover goes through, the acquiring company becomes responsible for all of the target company s
operations, holdings and debt, Takeover Definition | Investopedia. (2003)
An example of a Merger

How Did Tommy Douglass Affect Canada
Tommy Douglas was the first person to ever lead a social democratic government in Canada. It was
because of his views that his political opponents often criticized him. They labelled him as a red and a
communist at times, because he believed in socialism and that everyone deserved free healthcare, even
the one s who were poor and and in a bad situation. His impact on Canadians was a great one.
Especially the ones were suffering from the economic depression that had it s grip on Saskatchewan.
Tommy Douglas worked to create a better society in Saskatchewan and Canada, he wanted to alleviate
the suffering. He is known for how he drastically increased welfare benefits. By providing electricity
to the farmers in the rural areas, he helped the poor farmers. By establishing a universal healthcare
system, he helped the ones who were suffering from disease or sickness but couldn t pay for help. By
introducing the first ever auto insurance in Canada, he made accidents less tragic. He was a hero the

The Stranger Response
The Stranger The Eye is the window to ones soul. The significance of the eye is that it can display
emotions without spoken words. Humans cannot control the inner actions of their eyes because the
eyes are apart of the body that moves unintentionally. I chose to draw an abstract art of the eye to help
the reader visualize and understand Meursault s emotions throughout the story. I also chose to use
abstract art because it was an art movement that became popular in the 1940s. During this time period,
abstract art consisted of multiple different colors and it stood as a method of expression for those who
wanted to display their feelings. I also incorporated the usage of numerous lines in my art to represent

The puzzles in the back represent the visual analysis that the author wants the readers to develop about
Meursault s life. My reasoning behind this is because his life was portrayed as a puzzle and it was
hard to understand why he did the things he did and why he acted the way he did. There were specific
colors used to represent life and death. The dark lines indicate fear and his nonchalant attitude towards
life. I used the color black because it signifies death which was coming Meursault s way towards the
ending of the novel. The green signifies life that was what he came to value after sometime
particularly after he was done talking to the chairman. The color yellow represents happiness which
was what Meursault felt when he was with Marie and when he went to the beach. The color red
represents blood which was there once he had randomly killed one of the Arabs which lead to him
having to go to jail. Orange and blue were utilized to represent the sky and the sun that throughout the
story we see Meursault talked about often. Overall, the book cover image was created to exhibit and

Marissa Meyer s Futuristic Dystopian Novel Cinder
Marissa Meyer s futuristic dystopian novel, Cinder, is set in an advanced society containing large
divides between different groups of people including; cyborgs, humans, and Lunars. Cyborgs are often
looked down upon as inhuman machines that are held to high expectations though, the majority of
cyborgs are partially human. The antagonist, Cinder, is a cyborg who struggles with these divides
between people. Because of this, Cinder feels the need to hide her Cyborg self and constantly work to
appease others in order to be accepted. One theme this story suggests is In a society that can be very
demanding, people need to learn to stop trying to please others, live for themselves, and do what they
believe is right and they will benefit from their actions. This theme is shown throughout the story in a
series of critical scenes and also portrayed using author s craft.
From the beginning of the story, the theme is very evident. In one of the critical scenes, Cinder visits
her dying sister in quarantine after being victimized by the plague. After receiving the message that
her sister has only little time, Cinder arrives in quarantine to visit her. When Cinder arrives, she finds

knowing there would be harsh consequences if she were caught, Cinder confiscates the knife from the

Blair Witch Project Analysis
The Blair Witch Project is a highly successful and widely innovative independent film that was
released on July 30th, 1999. The film followed three student filmmakers who aimed to create a
documentary about a local legend called the Blair Witch. While the film alluded to various hallmarks
of the horror film genre, it was groundbreaking in its marketing strategy, the use of found footage, and
cinematography.
In many ways, The Blair Witch Project adheres to various tropes and traditions of the horror movie
genre. The film includes some characteristics of the Italian Giallo genre. In both genres, the killer is
unknown and unseen to the audience. The giallo underscores the theme of sight and the ability to see

The monster triumphs over the protagonist(s), normative order is never restored, and the fates of the
the main characters and the monster are left uncertain (Pinedo 29 34). In The Blair Witch Project, the
protagonists are reported missing but we never see what actually happened to them. The town begins
exhaustive searches to find the students. The witch is never seen and presumably survives the film to
haunt the woods again. Like many other postmodern horror films, The Blair Witch Project plays on
insider knowledge that the audience has about the horror genre. The audiences know not to run into
abandoned houses, yell in the forest, or run away in different directions but the protagonists do not.
The audience then engages with the film using their insider knowledge by yelling or commenting at
the main characters to avoid the pitfalls of the horror genre.
The film also utilizes what Isabel Pinedo calls the pleasure of not seeing . She mentions that, The
blocked vision produced by the film heightens the intensity of the horror by refusing to show the
terrifying spectacle (54). The Blair Witch Project utilizes blocked vision through the use of the
camcorder. In the film, the viewer is only able to see what the protagonists see. In the darkness of the
night in the woods, the protagonists and the audience are unable to see what is terrorizing the main
characters in the night. In this sense, we express the same anxieties and fears of the

Environmental Policy Of Vietnam s National Parks
Vietnam is home to 10% of the world s mammal, bird, and fish species, and over 40% of local plant
species are endemic (IUCN, 1999). However, accelerated deforestation, habitat loss and illegal
poaching (TRAFFIC, 2005) has led to the rapid depletion of endangered animals, such that Vietnam
has become one of 10 countries suffering from a remarkable biodiversity reduction (VNN, 1999). As
such, biodiversity conservation has become an important policy device in Vietnam s environmental
sector (Zingerli, 2005). Conservation practices and priorities have changed over time in response to
changing societal needs (Vasseur Hart, 2002). Likewise, Vietnam has taken various approaches to
conservation since its 1986 renovation policy of doi moi. In this essay, we will be reviewing the
effectiveness of current approaches of a community based approach to conservation in resettlement
projects conducted in Vietnam s national parks.
Community based Conservation
Community based conservation refers to turning more human beings into conservationist (Robert et
al., 2012) such that locals can form networks with each other, community based organisation, Non
Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and government agencies for the conservation of biodiversity
and ecosystems (Robert et al., 2012). It creates a stake for local communities in conserving resources
(Brown, 1998) such that the interests of conservation and development can be simultaneously
achieved (Berkes, 2004).

is based on Iran s own unique scenario in a regional game in the Middle East, as well as Iran s history
to avoid inside the box thinking when it comes to strategic warfare. Tira concludes that the
unreliability accompanying the area s instability and Iran s known use of creating black swans to
continuously push and wear down an opponent, shows that if a nuclear Iran were to develop it would
be a major threat not to be taken lightly. The conclusion that Tira arrives at is very helpful in
explaining why Israel is not fond of Russia assisting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The enrichment process is vital in understanding the issues with Iran s nuclear program, because it is
key in the creation of a nuclear weapon. These facilities would provide Iran the capability to take low
enriched uranium (LEU) and convert it to highly enriched uranium (HEU) which could then be used
in a nuclear weapon. Iran claims that it is using the enrichment process to create 20% enriched
uranium to power the Tehran Research Reactor, but the amount of LEU that Iran has many concerned.
As of November 2012, Iran has produced over 7,600 kilograms of LEU of which 137 kilograms had
been enriched to 20% at the one site alone (Collina and others 2013, 4). This stockpile could be
converted to create several cores for nuclear weapons and has many countries concerned.
The controversy over Iran s stockpile of LEU and enrichment facilities has been the driving force
behind the deliberations between Iran and the P 5+1 for the past 10 years. Iran claims that its program
s intentions are peaceful and that they have every right to nuclear energy. Iran continues to fight for its
program and for the respect it deserves among its international peers. Iran also feels that it is being
held against a standard that India, Pakistan and Israel did not face from the international community as
they gained nuclear weapons (Shenna 2010, 356). While each entered the nuclear community in their
own way, the international

Ethos Pathos Logos
Advertisement Success and the Use of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos
The main purpose of commercials and advertisements is to persuade the viewer to purchase the
product that is advertised, but not all commercials are successful in this endeavor. Companies, such as
Budweiser and Kleenex, appeal to the viewers ethos, logos, and pathos in order to influence them to
buy the advertised product(s). In order to appeal to each of the categories, companies use different
tactics to catch viewers attention. The use of ethos, logos, and pathos can make or break an
advertisement based on how it is being used.
Budweiser first released its Lost Dog commercial during Super Bowl XLIX (49). The advertisement
centers itself around a small dog who, out of curiosity, enters a truck trailer without the knowledge of
his owner. The dog then attempts to find its way back home but encounters an obstacle that it cannot
overcome a hungry wolf. When all hope seems lost, the dog s best friends, the Budweiser trademarked
Clydesdale horses, come to save him. The dog and horses all make it back home to their owner at the
end of the advertisement.
The commercial appeals to the audience s pathos more than anything. Animals, especially dogs, have
a way of pulling with human heartstrings. ...they can be used to transfer desired meanings to the
products with which they are associated (Phillips 1). In other words, using animals in advertisements
can link advertised products to the feelings that are associated

The Pros And Cons Of Banning Books
Isn t banning books disobeying the freedom of speech, and infringing on the freedom of the press?
First Amendment, states that citizens must be free to seek out any media, regardless of content, that
they deem appropriate for entertainment, information, or education. With said, banning books stunts
the extension of education. In addition, Books containing Racial Issues, Blasphemous Dialogue, and
Sexual Situations parents supervision is indicated. So, if read by children; banning books will not be
an antidote for bad parenting. But, Most opponents of book banning understand parental preferences
regarding their own child s reading material, but they refuse to grant them the right to make a decision
on behalf of all parents about what is or isn t appropriate. The disadvantages, books can teach you a

Plant Mitochondri Cytochrome Oxidase And The Cyanide...
Plant mitochondria include two terminal oxidases: cytochrome oxidase and the cyanide insensitive
alternative oxidase. Electron partitioning between the two pathways is regulated by the redox
equilibrium of the ubiquinone pool and the activation state of the alternative oxidase. The alternative
oxidase appears to exist as a dimer, which is active in the reduced, noncovalently linked form, and
inactive when in the oxidized, covalently linked form. Reduction of the oxidase in detached tobacco
mitochondria occurs upon oxidation of isocitrate or malate and may be mediated by matrix NAD(P)H.
The energy of the reduced oxidase is influenced by certain other organic acids, notably pyruvate,
which appear to interact directly with the enzyme. Pyruvate alters the interaction between the
alternative oxidase and ubiquinol so that the oxidase becomes active at much lower levels of ubiquinol
and competes with the cytochrome pathway for electrons. These will be further explored in this piece.
Cyanide resistant respiration was found toward the beginning of the twentieth century as a singularity
in thermogenic plants in the middle of anthesis and was later seen to be a regular highlight of plant
respiration. The think of respiration impenetrable to cyanide is related with the closeness in the
respiratory chain of an supplemental terminal oxidase alternative oxidase (AOX). The closeness of
AOX in higher plant mitochondria propose an intriguing, favorable exchange regarding its title in vivo

Jonesown Massacre And The Jonestown Massacre
THE JONESTOWN CULT
Mass suicides are infrequent yet notable events that have occurred throughout the course of human
history. The forty nine Japanese Ronan, or Russian villagers burning themselves during the Russian
Church s Great Schism, are terrible reminders of the lengths humans will go to in order to remain
faithful to a deeply held ideology (Coleman 46). Notably, in both of these examples and in the case of
the Jonestown massacre, the suicides occurred within the context of a culture, sub culture, or counter
culture that explicitly lent credence to the idea that death could be an act of ultimate devotion. Thus, it
is reasonable to assume that humans, when capable of uninfluenced choice, will choose not to die
under such circumstances. This makes the death of 909 men, women, and children under the
leadership of Jim Jones all the more curious from sociological, psychological, and ethical
perspectives.
THE MAKING OF A CULT
Jim Jones started The People s Temple in Indiana in the 1950s; however, it was when he moved to
California that he truly began to grow his influence. His message of equality and harmony spoke to
many, especially in the turbulent times of the Civil Rights movement and the Cold War. Jones
charisma cemented his congregants adoration. The ideal culture of The People s Temple, which stood
in opposition to America s real culture at the time, was what made it a counter culture; it was their
dedication to Jones that set turned them to cultism. Whether Jones

Dante s Inferno How the Punishment Fits the Crime
To merely say that Dante was interested in the world of hell would be an understatement. His needs to
explore and write about the nine different realms could best be described as an obsession. It s an
adventure, a tale, a dream (or nightmare) of different historical, biblical, and Greek gods and creatures
living their lives in the afterlife of the underground world. Each level has its own form of punishment
fitting the crime one has committed.
Level one, Limbo: for those who have not acted upon sin to be punished for, but rather didn t accept
Christ as their savior. Those in Limbo aren t harmed or living in suffering. They live in a deficient
form of heaven. The place is green and peaceful, but the people there are full of ... Show more content

Both sinners lived in anger and either with themselves or at others. The individuals that expressed
their anger are there fighting each other, ripping at each other s skin. The gloomy, yet mad live
beneath the river, forever indebted to sadness. Because the sullen have lived their lives being in
constant anger with themselves, they continue to live so in that exact manner. Circles six through nine
are those who have committed a more serious, heinous crime than those in one through five. For
Dante, the most serious crimes are those of betrayal. (Pg 788, Chevigny) Circle six is the introductory
of lower levels. The theme of this level is heresy. Those who have questioned or attempted to stray
from church reside here. The people of level six are in tombs that are on fire. This is a slight preview
of the hell we think of today. To question the Christian faith and to knowingly and openly think that
there is no afterlife, but instead believe that the soul dies with the body is the best to describe their
punishment. People become aware of a heaven or hell the moment they die. And once that hit that
moment, it s too late to decide whether or not there is such existence. For that reason, they are forever
stuck in their tombs (or modern day caskets) and live in constant sensation of being burned. There are
three rings in circle seven determined by the type of violence they ve committed. The outer ring is

small community called Toledo. Arab invaded Spain in 711 which caused the Visigoths to intermix

Essay On Cuban Rebellion
January 23 of 1898, numbers of Cuban rebellion is growing and more and more Cubans were coming
to the United States through Florida. At the same time, European countries were building empires.
Thus more and more americans and I feared that the United States will become overpowered by those
great nation and become ineffective. Republicans especially feared that if the United States does not
start strengthening our military and gain territories overseas we will soon become nobodies in the eyes
of the great European nations. I was informed that in Cuba, natives were be being murdered by the
spanish governments for expressing their genuine grievances. The spanish government not once tried

for president Mcliney to resist going to war. In this day, our government declared war on Spain and I

Moonrise Kingdom
The distinctive visual style of Anderson films manifests itself in their distinctive vintage color palettes.
The color palette is expressed in the color of setting, costumes and props in every scene.
In Moonrise Kingdom, Anderson utilizes warm tones of red, yellow, brown and contrasting clinical
ones of pale blue and cream.
Warm colors are used in every scene with the children. Costume wise, Sam dons a yellow khaki scout
uniform and Suzy a pastel pink dress. Setting wise, scenes with the children are shrouded in warm
vintage tones. This creates the effect of summer, achieving Anderson s purpose of creating a sense of
nostalgia and childhood recklessness, as summer is associated with memories of childlike abandon.
This reinforces the theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His eye for art direction and fantastic attention to detail creates the appropriate space and tone for the
viewer to lose themselves in. (3) Robertson is not wrong; a viewer can spot a Wes Anderson film
purely by its vintage color palette. Anderson utilizes this color palette to visually set the mood for the
scenes. This advances the plot by contributing to the overall theme Anderson conveys. In Moonrise
Kingdom color conveys to the audience the boundaries between the blue, clinical adult world and the
warm, innocent world of the children. In The Royal Tenenbaums, color conveys the movie s motif of a
family mentally stuck in the past. While the nuances of the themes differ, one thing remains constant:
Anderson utilizes the vintage color palettes to evoke a sense of nostalgia in the audience for a time of
childlike purity. This conjures memories of first love and childlike abandon and is enacted onscreen by
Sam and Suzy s love and Richie s untouched adoration for

  • 3. Essay on Genetics Are the Main Cause of Psychopathy One of the things about these kids is that they don t pay attention to the deep emotions or the deep concerns of other people. They can just look at it in the face and go whatever and move on. (Malcolm) Whereas some may argue that psychopaths are developed more from their environment, the characteristic traits and neurological data prove genetics are the main cause of psychopathy. Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by a constellation of interpersonal, affective and behavioral characteristics. (Harc, 1998) There are many personality traits that accompany those who are considered to be a psychopath. Subsequent studies in youth with conduct disorder show that the parents socialization with their children has less of an affect upon the development of conduct problems, suggesting more genetic significance in youth who are notably callous. (Dolan). Mental retardation, lower intelligence and inability to learn basic communication and language skills have been reported in youth considered psychopathic. Also reported is the severe psychopathy occurring from the youths parents. These parents have issues such as extreme maladjustment, chronic alcoholism, and many incarcerations for criminal acts. (Bezdjian). In order to confirm, tests have been made to assess psychopathic traits in youth. These tests have been recreated from the adult versions. The psychopathy checklist is a scale test used for youth ages thirteen to eighteen, it has the same factor structure as the adult PCL R test from which it was created and focuses on interpersonal aspects of personality and chronic antisocial structure. The psychopathy screening device is used for youth ages six to twelve, and is completed by teachers or parents for validity reasons. The most widely used test is the youth psychopathic traits inventory, which is a self report of fifty items which focus on core personality correlations of youth and psychopaths. (Dolan). The company s Name Your Own Price option offers its customers an incredible proposition by allowing them to name their own price for any travel related products or services. Priceline.com determines the lowest price it can accept, while the customer has the discretion in the supplier selection. • 5. Essay on David Hume’s Treatment of Mind This paper critically examines Hume s argument against the knowledge/existence of substantival mind. This denial is rooted in his epistemology which includes a theory of how complex ideas which lack corresponding impressions are manufactured by the imagination, in conjunction with the memory, on the basis of three relations among impressions: resemblance, continuity and constant conjunction. The crux of my critique consists in pointing out that these relations are such that only an enduring, unified agent could interact with them in the way Hume describes. I note that Hume attempts to provide such an agent by invoking the activities of imagination and memory, but that it is unclear where these belong in his system. After discussing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To demonstrate this, I will give first a brief rehearsal of Hume s epistemology in general, then as it is applied specifically to the mind. Hume s Epistemology The great project of Empiricism, in its incipience, was to discover, in Locke s words, ...the original, certainty, and extent of human knowledge... (1) In his Treatise of Human Nature, Hume is intent upon developing a science of Man (2) which would acquaint us with the extent and force of human understanding, and [which] could explain the nature of the ideas we employ, and of the operations we perform in our reasonings. (3) Hume hoped that this Science of Man would serve as a solid foundation for all other sciences, both natural and philosophical, and that it would ultimately eradicate conflicting theories in all fields by defining the limits of human knowledge. For Hume, all knowledge originates with experience, and all experience is of one s own perceptions. We have direct knowledge only of perceptions, not of what the perceptions are of (if, indeed, they may be counted as of anything); for the perception stands between the perceiving mind and its supposed real world object. Hume says, ... tis impossible for us so much as to conceive or form an idea of any thing specifically different from [our perceptions]. • 6. Early Biblical Archeology Analysis Early Biblical archeology focused on finding the monumental things that pointed directly to the Biblical text and ignored the everyday things. Their goal was to find the holy grail. King and Stager changed that goal, they began to focus what everyday life looked like to discover what life was like in Biblical times. Archeology of Ancient Israel gives us the context in which the people of the Biblical text lived, allowing us to grasp the meanings of the text. The Biblical text does not deceive you, however they will not use it as a source. Archeology cannot bear the burden of proving the Bible since it is not meant to do that. Their working assumption is that the Biblical text is only reliable if other archeological proof shows up which includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is often a misjudgment leading interpreting the Bible incorrectly. Archeology shows us their context which we need to rightly interpret the text. In 1 Kings 6 Solomon is building a temple. King and Stager tell us that Temples were often built for divine worship and were not public, they were for the king. The public would be only allowed in the courts of the Temple. There are not any remains of Solomon s temple so they have used the descriptions in the Biblical text and Near Eastern Temples to recreate the temple. The temple was rectangular and tripartite on an east west axis. There were imported cedar panels that had carvings of cherubim, rosettes, and palmettes that was overlaid with gold. Gold was the most expensive metal in Biblical times, which begins to show you how prosperous Solomon was. The forests in ancient Israel were considerably larger than today. The cedar is a pyramid shaped tree that grows in the mountains. It is known for its durability and signifies strength and prosperity. The timber trade between Phoenicia and Israel sheds light on the architecture of the time and also the commerce. A palmette is a stylized palm tree and is a favorite motif. The symbolism is complex since it could be pointing to the tree of life in the creation story or it could be pointing to Asherah the deity of fertility. Solomon was guilty of worshipping Asherah so it is likely that is what it was symbolizing. This shows the complexity of Solomon as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having moved from Okawville, a town of 600, to East St. Louis, a city of 75,000, Charles and Elizabeth have adjusted to a different environment over the past nine years. Charles is 72 years old and is still working as a crossing watchman for the L N Railroad. He cranks down the guardrails when a train approaches his intersection at 15th and Lincoln Streets. Although it wasn t always easy, the United States experienced an important economic and home construction growth. The fifty s weren t always easy but it made place to a lot of improvement in the US government and in the society. In this text I will talk to you about the similarities and differences between the novel One Flew Over the Cookoo s Nest and the movie. First of all, the story took place in hospital in Oregon in the late fifty s and early sixty s. The World War II is still present in the community s head. The hospital is a world of regulations, routine, and discipline in which Nurse Ratched has a full control. Nurse Ratched also does all what she can to keep the outside world away from the patients. Chief Bromden, the narrator, has been a patient in the Oregon psychiatric hospital for ten years. Bromden suffers from paranoia and it is very easy to understand all along the story. In the hospital, all the patient are men and they are all divided on a particular way. All the men that can not be cured are together and all the others that can be cured and together too. The hospital is ruled by Miss Rached, an army Nurse that is very mechanical. Everything starts when Randle McMurphy enters the hospital. Superior-Subordinate Exchanges ERIC LIU A92044372 COGS 14A W16 PROFESSOR ROSSANO Behavioral Mimicry in Superior Subordinate Exchanges Introduction Communication extends far past the act of speaking. From the time we are born, we communicate with the people around us without having language as a medium. Instead, babies convey their thoughts, emotions, wants, and needs with their face and body. As babies turn into children, and children into adults, this facet of communication is marginalized and body language seems to become something far less important than spoken language. Subconsciously, however, the ways other s bodies and faces are held have a great impact on the way people interpret words. One nuanced aspect of body language is behavioral mimicry s place in forming bonds between people. This paper will discuss the effects, and a potential application, of unconscious mirroring and mimicking in social interactions. To clarify any confusion, usage of mirroring and mimicking are synonymous throughout the paper. Unconscious mirroring would not be possible without body language. Harding and Kerrigan both participated in the 1992 Olympics, where Kerrigan placed third in the figure skating competition and Harding placed just behind her in fourth. The two women competed against each other again in 1994 as they both fought for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. However, most of the interviews that the public saw were conducted by television personalities or reporters, not trained investigators. None of the interviewers appeared to impose cognitive load on Harding. The questions were straightforward and did not pertain to any specific events. Most of the interviewers questions pertained to Harding s personal feelings about the events; fabricating personal emotions is less taxing than verifiable details or time and location specific events (Vrij et al., 2011). The questions asked in interviews were also quite predictable and scripted. This allowed for Harding to practice what she might answer to these questions and planned lies are more difficult to detect (Vrij et al., 2011). Summary Although it is still not known if Harding was fully involved in the attack on Nancy Kerrigan or if she had prior information about the attack, she was at least deceiving the public by concealing information. Her assumed deception was and still is difficult to detect. This is because there is no one cue that indicates deception. In addition, myths and biases, unobserved and misleading cues, self deception, and a failure to use the cognitive approach could have further complicated the process of deception ... • 17. Cecil The Lion Peter Singer Analysis Remember Cecil the Lion? A lot of people were shocked, even outraged, when they heard about his death at the hands of an American hunter in 2015. The response to the lion s death was so strong that the guy who shot Cecil basically went into hiding until he issued an apology. Our society reacts with horror when we hear about a majestic lion being shot or sacks of kittens being tossed into rivers, or owners training their dogs to fight each other for sport. However, what is the difference between killings Cecil and killing a duck, deer, cow, pig, or a chicken? How do we reconcile the strong feelings many of us have about certain animals, mainly the cute ones like kittens and puppies, with the way we actual use animals in our own lives? Most of us think nothing about using non human animals for their meat, milk, or skins and not only do we use animals in these ways, but using them as we do almost always harms them. A common method for testing cosmetics, for example, involves restraining rabbits and putting the product into their eyes, leaving it for a set amount of time and then washing it out and checking for adverse reactions. ... Singer predicts that there will be a time when our descendants look back on us and our treatment of non human animals with the same reaction. • 19. Research And Design Of A Experimental Design Research and Design This study will use a true experimental design because it allows the researcher to exercise better control over research variables. This design ultimately strengthens the inference of causality. To prove with confidence that changes in the dependent variable were caused by the independent variable rather than sampling error, the research design must meet three criteria (Nieswiadomy, 2012). The three criteria are: 1) the researcher manipulates the experimental variable; 2) at least one experimental and one comparison group are included; and 3) the subjects are randomly assigned to either group, (Nieswiadomy, 2012). A type of true experimental design is the posttest only control group design. The posttest only design is appropriate for this study because the participants will be randomly assigned to groups and will be given two different treatments, (Nieswiadomy, 2012). The experimental group will receive clinically indicated replacement of their PIV while the comparison group will receive routine PIV replacement every 72 96 hours. The posttest will include a daily assessment for phlebitis up to 48 hours after removal. A randomized controlled clinical trial is the most logical way to complete this study because it is concerned with a cause and effect relationship using human subjects. This study cannot be blinded because of the nature of the intervention. The patients and nursing staff will know after day four what group they are in. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The average monthly cost for childcare in Ontario for a toddler is approximately $773 (www.todaysparent.com). The Universal Child Care Benefit, therefore, does not cover the full cost of child care and in addition the UCCB is taxable. Some argue that because the UCCB is universal and is provided to all families including those that are more well off and do not need it, that the money should be redistributed to families with lower incomes (Howe Covell, 2007). Similarly, subsidy programs were implemented. These subsidy programs all have eligibility criteria that restrict and/or limit access to individuals. Additionally, those receiving subsidy have to pay user fees (Howe Covell, 2007). • 22. Reasons Why Guns Should Be Banned Violence is out of control, and guns are a major cause Should Guns Be Banned? introduction. This is a belief many Americans now share. This belief is fueling a nationwide movement that could result in a total prohibition on private gun ownership in the near future. Just imagine if every handgun owner was made to dispose of their gun, how much more peaceful the U. S. or rather the world would be? Ownership of private guns is being banned one step at a time. The recently enacted Brady Bill mandates a national five day waiting period and background check for all handgun purchases (Wollstein par. 1). Maryland has just passed a law that requires a state license for any handgun purchase and limits purchases to one per month. Also, President Clinton banned the importation of most foreign made, semiautomatic rifles (Reynolds 1). On February 28, 1994, Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen announced that several 12 gauge semiautomatic shotguns were being reclassified in the same category as machine guns (Wollstein par. ). The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms simultaneously announced that they would trace the owners of 18,000 of these shotguns and order them to be fingerprinted and to register their guns with the ATF within 30 days or face ten years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine (Wollstein par. 4). On the same day that semiautomatic shotguns were reclassified, Senator Howard Metzenbaum introduced legislation that would require all handgun owners to get a federal license, pass a safety test, and register their weapons with police (Reynolds 3). Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan has proposed legislation that would raise the tax on some ammunition up to 10,000 percent. The price of a single box of Winchester 9 millimeter hollow tipped cartridges would increase to $15,000( ). Would banning guns reduce crime? According to recent polls, most Americans now support gun licensing as a way to reduce crime. Crime has certainly been increasing particularly violent crime. Between 1960 and 1980, robberies nationwide increased by 300 percent. In the same period, both the number of handguns and the national murder rate doubled (Wollstein par. ). To start, I will explain the purpose of the Transcontinental railroad. In Source #1 Full Steam Ahead The Transcontinental Railroad , it says People had been asking for coast to coast rail travel for decades. Since the invention of the locomotive in 1825, companies had built many rail lines. These railroads connected eastern cities and seaports, splashing travel times and helping these areas grow. Crossing the country, however was much more difficult. People and trade goods traveled by horse, stagecoach, or wagon train. The trip took months. Not many made the journey. So the government during the time thought that building a railroad, would help businesses sprout up like corn. According to Source #1 it also says Two companies immediately got to work. Railroads already existed that stretched from the East of Omaha, Nebraska. Now, the Union Pacific Railroad began extending the tracks from Omaha out to the West. The Central Pacific Railroad began in Sacramento,California and laid tracks out East. Eventually, the two companies would meet in Promontory, Utah. The puzzles in the back represent the visual analysis that the author wants the readers to develop about Meursault s life. My reasoning behind this is because his life was portrayed as a puzzle and it was hard to understand why he did the things he did and why he acted the way he did. There were specific colors used to represent life and death. The dark lines indicate fear and his nonchalant attitude towards life. I used the color black because it signifies death which was coming Meursault s way towards the ending of the novel. The green signifies life that was what he came to value after sometime particularly after he was done talking to the chairman. The color yellow represents happiness which was what Meursault felt when he was with Marie and when he went to the beach. The color red represents blood which was there once he had randomly killed one of the Arabs which lead to him having to go to jail. Some famous attractions located in Georgia are the Amicalola Falls State Park, Six Flags over Georgia, Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, and the World of Coca Cola. Three of my favorite places in Georgia that I have been to are Stone Mountain, Amicalola falls, and Six Flags over Georgia. Stone Mountain is home to the world s biggest piece of exposed granite. As you are walking, you see the mountain and if you look even closer you see a carving of three Confederate heroes of the Civil War. They are President Jefferson Davis, Generals Robert E. Lee, and Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Six Flags contains rides for kids and adults. My family and I decided to go here. When we got to Six Flags, all you could hear were people screaming and yelling on the rides. That just made you want to go on the rides more. Some of the rides in Six Flags are Acrophobia, Batman, Dare Devil Dive, Georgia Cyclone, Georgia Scorcher, Goliath, Gotham City Crime Wave, Great American Scream Machine, and Mindbender. We went on only some of the rides, because the lines were very long and it was also very hot. We also went to Hurricane Harbor. It is located inside of Six Flags. Hurricane Harbor has a giant wave pool inside. It also has water slides that are closed. The waterslides are called Bonzai Pipelines. It also has something that is called the Tsunami Surge. In this water ride, you sit with three other people in a tube. This ride will spin you 360 degrees. Inside there is also the Paradise Island. The Paradise Island is a playground that has water blasters, climbing nets, and waterslides. If you are in the mood to get drenched, you can go under the enormous bucket of water and when it is full it tips all the way over leaving you all wet. It started to get late, so we decided to start heading to the parking lot. Overall, I had an amazing day at Six Flags over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Blair Witch Project Analysis The Blair Witch Project is a highly successful and widely innovative independent film that was released on July 30th, 1999. The film followed three student filmmakers who aimed to create a documentary about a local legend called the Blair Witch. While the film alluded to various hallmarks of the horror film genre, it was groundbreaking in its marketing strategy, the use of found footage, and cinematography. In many ways, The Blair Witch Project adheres to various tropes and traditions of the horror movie genre. The film includes some characteristics of the Italian Giallo genre. In both genres, the killer is unknown and unseen to the audience. The giallo underscores the theme of sight and the ability to see clearly (Bondanella 381). In ... The monster triumphs over the protagonist(s), normative order is never restored, and the fates of the the main characters and the monster are left uncertain (Pinedo 29 34). In The Blair Witch Project, the protagonists are reported missing but we never see what actually happened to them. The town begins exhaustive searches to find the students. The witch is never seen and presumably survives the film to haunt the woods again. Like many other postmodern horror films, The Blair Witch Project plays on insider knowledge that the audience has about the horror genre. The audiences know not to run into abandoned houses, yell in the forest, or run away in different directions but the protagonists do not. The audience then engages with the film using their insider knowledge by yelling or commenting at the main characters to avoid the pitfalls of the horror genre. The film also utilizes what Isabel Pinedo calls the pleasure of not seeing . She mentions that, The blocked vision produced by the film heightens the intensity of the horror by refusing to show the terrifying spectacle (54). The Blair Witch Project utilizes blocked vision through the use of the camcorder. In the film, the viewer is only able to see what the protagonists see. In the darkness of the night in the woods, the protagonists and the audience are unable to see what is terrorizing the main characters in the night. In this sense, we express the same anxieties and fears of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Environmental Policy Of Vietnam s National Parks Vietnam is home to 10% of the world s mammal, bird, and fish species, and over 40% of local plant species are endemic (IUCN, 1999). However, accelerated deforestation, habitat loss and illegal poaching (TRAFFIC, 2005) has led to the rapid depletion of endangered animals, such that Vietnam has become one of 10 countries suffering from a remarkable biodiversity reduction (VNN, 1999). As such, biodiversity conservation has become an important policy device in Vietnam s environmental sector (Zingerli, 2005). Conservation practices and priorities have changed over time in response to changing societal needs (Vasseur Hart, 2002). Likewise, Vietnam has taken various approaches to conservation since its 1986 renovation policy of doi moi. In this essay, we will be reviewing the effectiveness of current approaches of a community based approach to conservation in resettlement projects conducted in Vietnam s national parks. Community based Conservation Community based conservation refers to turning more human beings into conservationist (Robert et al., 2012) such that locals can form networks with each other, community based organisation, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and government agencies for the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems (Robert et al., 2012). It creates a stake for local communities in conserving resources (Brown, 1998) such that the interests of conservation and development can be simultaneously achieved (Berkes, 2004). • 40. Essay about Israel and Iran s Incompatibility The incompatibility for the game between Israel and Iran is because Iran would not play by the same set of rules that were set between the United States and Russia during the Cold War. This assumption is based on Iran s own unique scenario in a regional game in the Middle East, as well as Iran s history to avoid inside the box thinking when it comes to strategic warfare. Tira concludes that the unreliability accompanying the area s instability and Iran s known use of creating black swans to continuously push and wear down an opponent, shows that if a nuclear Iran were to develop it would be a major threat not to be taken lightly. The enrichment process is vital in understanding the issues with Iran s nuclear program, because it is key in the creation of a nuclear weapon. These facilities would provide Iran the capability to take low enriched uranium (LEU) and convert it to highly enriched uranium (HEU) which could then be used in a nuclear weapon. Iran claims that it is using the enrichment process to create 20% enriched uranium to power the Tehran Research Reactor, but the amount of LEU that Iran has many concerned. As of November 2012, Iran has produced over 7,600 kilograms of LEU of which 137 kilograms had been enriched to 20% at the one site alone (Collina and others 2013, 4). This stockpile could be converted to create several cores for nuclear weapons and has many countries concerned. The controversy over Iran s stockpile of LEU and enrichment facilities has been the driving force behind the deliberations between Iran and the P 5+1 for the past 10 years. Iran claims that its program s intentions are peaceful and that they have every right to nuclear energy. Iran continues to fight for its program and for the respect it deserves among its international peers. • 41. Ethos Pathos Logos Advertisement Success and the Use of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos The main purpose of commercials and advertisements is to persuade the viewer to purchase the product that is advertised, but not all commercials are successful in this endeavor. Companies, such as Budweiser and Kleenex, appeal to the viewers ethos, logos, and pathos in order to influence them to buy the advertised product(s). In order to appeal to each of the categories, companies use different tactics to catch viewers attention. The use of ethos, logos, and pathos can make or break an advertisement based on how it is being used. Budweiser first released its Lost Dog commercial during Super Bowl XLIX (49). The advertisement centers itself around a small dog who, out of curiosity, enters a truck trailer without the knowledge of his owner. The dog then attempts to find its way back home but encounters an obstacle that it cannot overcome a hungry wolf. When all hope seems lost, the dog s best friends, the Budweiser trademarked Clydesdale horses, come to save him. The dog and horses all make it back home to their owner at the end of the advertisement. The commercial appeals to the audience s pathos more than anything. • 43. Plant Mitochondri Cytochrome Oxidase And The Cyanide... Plant mitochondria include two terminal oxidases: cytochrome oxidase and the cyanide insensitive alternative oxidase. Electron partitioning between the two pathways is regulated by the redox equilibrium of the ubiquinone pool and the activation state of the alternative oxidase. The alternative oxidase appears to exist as a dimer, which is active in the reduced, noncovalently linked form, and inactive when in the oxidized, covalently linked form. Reduction of the oxidase in detached tobacco mitochondria occurs upon oxidation of isocitrate or malate and may be mediated by matrix NAD(P)H. The energy of the reduced oxidase is influenced by certain other organic acids, notably pyruvate, which appear to interact directly with the enzyme. Pyruvate alters the interaction between the alternative oxidase and ubiquinol so that the oxidase becomes active at much lower levels of ubiquinol and competes with the cytochrome pathway for electrons. These will be further explored in this piece. Cyanide resistant respiration was found toward the beginning of the twentieth century as a singularity in thermogenic plants in the middle of anthesis and was later seen to be a regular highlight of plant respiration. The think of respiration impenetrable to cyanide is related with the closeness in the respiratory chain of an supplemental terminal oxidase alternative oxidase (AOX). The closeness of AOX in higher plant mitochondria propose an intriguing, favorable exchange regarding its title in vivo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Jonesown Massacre And The Jonestown Massacre THE JONESTOWN CULT Mass suicides are infrequent yet notable events that have occurred throughout the course of human history. The forty nine Japanese Ronan, or Russian villagers burning themselves during the Russian Church s Great Schism, are terrible reminders of the lengths humans will go to in order to remain faithful to a deeply held ideology (Coleman 46). Notably, in both of these examples and in the case of the Jonestown massacre, the suicides occurred within the context of a culture, sub culture, or counter culture that explicitly lent credence to the idea that death could be an act of ultimate devotion. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that humans, when capable of uninfluenced choice, will choose not to die under such circumstances. This makes the death of 909 men, women, and children under the leadership of Jim Jones all the more curious from sociological, psychological, and ethical perspectives. THE MAKING OF A CULT Jim Jones started The People s Temple in Indiana in the 1950s; however, it was when he moved to California that he truly began to grow his influence. His message of equality and harmony spoke to many, especially in the turbulent times of the Civil Rights movement and the Cold War. Jones charisma cemented his congregants adoration. The ideal culture of The People s Temple, which stood in opposition to America s real culture at the time, was what made it a counter culture; it was their dedication to Jones that set turned them to cultism. • 45. Dante s Inferno How the Punishment Fits the Crime To merely say that Dante was interested in the world of hell would be an understatement. His needs to explore and write about the nine different realms could best be described as an obsession. It s an adventure, a tale, a dream (or nightmare) of different historical, biblical, and Greek gods and creatures living their lives in the afterlife of the underground world. Each level has its own form of punishment fitting the crime one has committed. Level one, Limbo: for those who have not acted upon sin to be punished for, but rather didn t accept Christ as their savior. Those in Limbo aren t harmed or living in suffering. Because the sullen have lived their lives being in constant anger with themselves, they continue to live so in that exact manner. Circles six through nine are those who have committed a more serious, heinous crime than those in one through five. For Dante, the most serious crimes are those of betrayal. (Pg 788, Chevigny) Circle six is the introductory of lower levels. The theme of this level is heresy. Those who have questioned or attempted to stray from church reside here. The people of level six are in tombs that are on fire. This is a slight preview of the hell we think of today. To question the Christian faith and to knowingly and openly think that there is no afterlife, but instead believe that the soul dies with the body is the best to describe their punishment. People become aware of a heaven or hell the moment they die. And once that hit that moment, it s too late to decide whether or not there is such existence. For that reason, they are forever stuck in their tombs (or modern day caskets) and live in constant sensation of being burned.
