What Are The Similarities Between Panhenome And Parthenon
Compare and contrast of two famous buildings from ancient Rome and Greece: Parthenon in
Athens and the Pantheon in Rome
Student X
University of the People
AHIST 1401
Introduction
In antiquity many buildings were erected, for various reasons and with various Architectures. In the
case of the Pantheon in Rome and the Parthenon in Greece, although their names are quite similar,
they have certainly commonalities but also many differences that are important, not to mention the
influence of Greek art on Roman art.
Parthenon
Greece has known many wars, and after the Persian wars against the Persian Empire, the city had to
be rebuilt. And this is where Pericles undertook major restoration work in the city. Thus... Show

This statue was erected in recognition of the protection of the goddess and its benefits to the city.
The Parthenon is built in marble. It is composed of two parts unlike a temple. It takes its name
from the dirty second is called Parthenon which means piece girls , and this name will bring the
whole edifice.
This edifice reveals the beauty of the classical style. It was built to please the eye, it testifies of
ideas of that time, tells that presented by the thinker Protagoras or the Polycletus sculptor.
Pantheon
The Pantheon was built by order of King Agrippa, the edifice was destroyed by fire and is fully
reconstructed under the influence of Hadrian king.
At the beginning the temple was built for religious activities and was changed into Christian church
in the seventh century. C is a church that has remained intact and functioning till present. There is
even a neighborhood in Rome that bears his name.
The word comes from the Greek Pantheon PГЎntheion, which means all gods .

Case Study on Ethics and Dual Relationships in Social Work...
Ethics Case Study: Juan S.
The social worker in this case study worked at the ABC Children s Wellness Center. An ESL
teacher at a local elementary school referred Juan S. to her. Juan came to the center with his mother,
Silvia.
Before seeing Juan and his mother, the social worker called the ESL teacher who referred Juan to
her to discuss the case. The teacher reported that Juan was showing little interest in classroom
activities or his peers, and always seemed exhausted. He was irritable and frequently became
physically aggressive toward classmates who made fun of him for being so small and thin
(sometimes calling him mosquito ). She also stated that he often appeared to be daydreaming, and
when she tried to talk to him, he seemed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Juan was present during that shooting, and barely escaped with his own life. Silvia then made
the decision to take her remaining two children to America, and contacted her cousin who lived
in Brownsville, TX to help her slip across the border. The cousin was able get someone to
smuggle Silvia, Jaime and Juan across the border at the cost of $10,000. They crossed the border
on foot and were met by someone who hid them under the hay placed in the feeding troughs of a
cattle truck. They were left there for two days without food or water in 98 degree weather while
the truck made its way to the Texas Arkansas border. There they were picked up by her cousin
who placed them on a bus to W. Palm Beach Fl where another cousin lived. Silvia must now pay
back the $10,000 she owes her cousin.
The mother indicated that the family was having great difficulty financially because, without
papers, Silvia and Jaime were having trouble finding jobs, and Silvia was afraid to apply for
public assistance. She had recently obtained a job as a housekeeper and nanny for a wealthy
family with 3 young children. The family, however, did not pay her each week as promised, and
when they did pay her, they sometimes paid less than the agreed amount. Sylvia was afraid to
complain because she feared the family might turn her in to the immigration authorities. She was
searching for other work but had not found anything. Jaime worked as

A Speech On Western Kentucky University
My fellow Colonels, I could start my address to you with a clichГ© statement about how today
marks the first day of the rest of our lives. I could say that today is where your book begins, and
that the rest is still unwritten. I could say that my wish for you is that this life becomes all that
you want it to, or that you are the wind beneath my wings, or that baby, you re a firework! But I
won t. I won t begin with a clichГ© statement because EKU is not a school full of clichГ©

It is a term plastered across buildings and campus wide emails. Diversity is a word a majority of
students feel well and truly acquainted with, and for good reason. The standard answer I have
received when I ask students what diversity means to them relates to the coming together of
different cultures. The exercise of this understood definition is seen plainly on the campus of
EKU. The encouragement of diversity has encouraged me to experience other cultures in ways I
would not have had opportunities to otherwise. The exposure to the word itself, however, has
challenged me to look beyond the common understanding of the word. As an English major
(with a literature concentration!) I love words. I love to look up their meanings and see how
many different ways those meanings can be interpreted and applied to assorted situations. When
I looked into the word diversity, I found that, while most commonly applied to multiculturalism
in various settings, it can be applied to countless other aspects of life as well. Some of these areas,
like diversity in foods, are also aspects of diversity in cultures. In a way, one can lead to the other.
For example, I was recently introduced to Indian food while I was overseas. In my opinion, it is
the best food ever. My appreciation for this culture s food led to a desire to learn more about other
aspects of this culture. On the other hand, I am a proud Greek. Not of the sorority variety, though

The Outbreak Of Bse ( Mad Cow Disease )
The surge of goods and services have also increased opportunities for the spreading of disease.
The outbreak of BSE (Mad Cow Disease) is an example of this. Mosquitoes that carry malaria
have been found on planes and so have infected seafood carrying cholera bacteria being shipped by
boat. Compression of time through international air travel, boats, etc. make it likely for people to
cross continents in periods of time shorter than the incubation periods of most diseases. Because of
this people can infect others unbeknownst to them that anything is wrong.

There should also be laws to protect their status in the country since they are part of it. They
should have access to adequate health care and insurance and be paid sick leave. To not do this
will only put the whole country at risk at outbreaks of food borne illnesses.
New innovations in technology would help a great deal in decreasing the spread of disease. For
example, finding an alternative way to have air in an airplane. The way we now have it the air
in an airplane simply recirculates the air that s already there. So the diseases in the airplane are
rebreathed and don t go away for the duration of the plan ride. This poses a greater risk for
infection. A way to replace the air continually would decrease the risk. Dealing with the increase
in urbanization in developing countries I found a lot more difficult to think about. None of the
solutions seem easy and the problems are ongoing. There are too many people living in these
urban area mostly for the pursuit of work, they don t have adequate drinking water, they have
waste problems, along with a whole bunch of unsanitary conditions. The best I can think of is to
have them be educated in jobs that they can do online so that they don t have the need to move to
these areas. But this also brings of the question of how these laptops would be provided to teach
them and how they would get wifi. Also there needs to be a system in place to get them access to

Title: Raw Emotion Strikes a Chord
I. Thesis: Despite their short lived time as a band, Nirvana remains the best band of all time, even
when compared to other successful bands of the same genre, such as Pearl Jam.
II. Main Point 1: Nirvana is credited with bringing alternative music to mainstream radio.
a. Pop music dominated radio airplay before the release of Nevermind in 1991.
b. Nirvana struck a cord with Generation X and opened people s minds to a new kind of music.
c. Other alternative bands were able to reach a wider audience when record companies scrambled
to jump on the success of Nirvana.

Due to the explosion of the grunge scene and their exhaustive touring schedule, Ten was
certified Gold and reached number two on the Billboard charts by July of the next year. Like
Nirvana, the band was uncomfortable with the sudden exposure to fame, and after receiving
four MTV Video Music awards, the band refused to make a video for their single, Black . ( Pearl
Jam Stops Making Videos, Refuses To Work With Ticketmaster ). Over the past twenty years,
Pearl Jam has gone on to release nine albums, and won 11 out of 37 total awards, including five
American Music Awards and a Grammy. Pearl Jam has gained a reputation in the music industry
for their refusal to conform to music industry demands, and sticking up for causes they believe in,
such as their now infamous boycott of Ticketmaster. ( Pearl Jam: Still A Touring Force ) Although
they only had seven years together as a band, Nirvana is thought of as one of the most influential
bands of all time. Before Kurt Cobain s death in 1994, the band only recorded three studio albums,
Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utereo. Combined, their estimated total record sales are over 75 million
worldwide, with Nevermind and In Utereo reaching Diamond status. Nirvana solidified their place
in rock history by bringing alternative rock to the mainstream, expressing raw emotion in their
music that had never been heard before and probably not since. ( Nirvana

Comparing Matrix And Rene Descartes

The Matrix and Rene Descartes
Throughout this essay, I am going to break down and philosophically evaluate The Matrix. While
doing so, I am going to identify parts of skepticism and the mind body problems that can be
detected while watching this science fiction action film. This film has proposed many questions
that have been philosophized by Rene Descartes and Plato; I will use these ideas that they have
offered to understand how Neo discovers reality and the relationship of living or life through virtual
reality.
At the beginning of, The Matrix, Neo seems to be flustered, and he questions his reality on multiple
occasions. The events that play out within the first few minutes and they make him wonder if he
is in a dream or he is truly experiencing what is going on in his apartment. He received a message
across the computes that read, The Matrix has you he then receives another message following a
perfectly timed knock at the door. There s a group of people who are waiting outside of his
apartment, and he had a brief conversation with them and began to ask, You ever have that feeling

The belief that things are real through sense is invalid, and he discovered he could not use them
to discern what is real or not. That was because the senses are electrical signal interpreted by the
brain. Descartes realized that sense could not be used to confirm the reasoning of what is real
because, the senses often impede the mind in many operations, and in no case do they help in the
perception of ideas. Descartes had very vivid and realistic dreams which lead him to study his
own dreams. He first believed that his dreams were messages from God and that it would give him
purpose. Late in his life he decided to investigate the dream he had to understand

Rhetorical Analysis Of Hoop Dreams Directed By Steve James
The purpose of the documentary Hoop Dreams directed by Steve James, is to show how people
from different backgrounds can create their own destiny based on the choices they make for
themselves. The beginning of the documentary introduces the viewers to William Gates and Arthur
Agee s aspiring dreams to become NBA basketball players. Steve James uses rhetorical and
cinematic techniques to achieve this purpose.
In the beginning of the film, James begins by using the indirect interview technique with William
and Arthur to appeal to ethos. The interviews are conducted in both of the boys homes in order to
show the viewers the poor conditions they are living in. The interviews also illustrate the similar
backgrounds and culture that both the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The middle of the documentary reflects the different values and paths the characters begin to
make for themselves. Steve James begins using other cinematic techniques like a point of view
shot in order to show the relationship between Arthur s strained relationship with his father.
There is a scene where Arthur watches his dad buy drugs near the basketball court. The point of
shot helped appeal to ethos, because the viewers were able to relate to Arthur s sadness and
loneliness more easily. James uses sad non diegetic music to show how bad Arthur s home life
has gotten. The music plays when Arthur s mom talks about losing her job, which signifies how
traumatic this event is. Steve James uses a primary footage technique to show how Arthur has
lost focus in school. The footage shows Arthur goofing off in class with his troubled friend. The
technique helps show how Arthur s life is slowly falling apart, and how his values and motivation
have shifted and not for the better. Meanwhile, William is being helped financially in his new
school which is keeping him motivated to succeed. The director uses the non diegetic music
technique to show how well William is doing on the new basketball team. The purpose of this is
to show how William is succeeding in his new school. Steve James also uses

December 11, 2014 Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Derived Neural Crest Stem Cells and the
maintenance of Neural crest stem cell multipotency
Stem cells are unspecialized cells, which have the potential to develop into several different cell
types muscle cells, brain cells, skin cells, or red blood cells during early development. Stem cells
continuously divide in order to replace other cells. As stem cells divide, they have the potential to
develop into a specialized cell or remain a stem cell. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) play an
essential role in tissue regeneration, and can circumvent immune system concerns. There are a
variety of stem cells, including embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, and induced pluripotent stem
cells. However, the main focus of this paper will be the usage of induced pluripotent stem cells.
Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Derived Neural Crest Stem Cells Induced pluripotent stem cells
are adult cells that are genetically altered in order to match embryonic stem cells. In order to
achieve this embryonic stem cell like nature, induced pluripotent stem cells are impelled to
express genes and factors required to maintain the properties of embryonic stem cells. The main
iPSC discussed in this paper will be derived neural crest stem cells (NCSCs). Derived neural crest

Marc Lamont Hill s Speech Analysis
Dr. Marc Lamont Hill gave the 2017 All Bonaventure Reads keynote at St. Bonaventure
University this past Monday. During the summer, the freshman class all read Hill s book,
Nobody: Casualties of America s War on The Vulnerable from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond. In
the book, many thought provoking events that are a part of America s history were discussed.
The theme of the keynote was why people are put into the category of a nobody. Hill opens his
speech by relating the events that he talked about in his book to current events, like football
players kneeling during the National Anthem. Bringing up a current event is a good opener
because it engaged his young audience by stating a controversial subject. Hill said that when he
first started writing he wanted to write a book about what happened in Ferguson, Missouri with
Michael Brown. He showed emotion when he was giving this part of the speech to give emphasis
to the tragedy of what happened. When it occurred, he had to do a story on it for the news without

First, he asks, how can I improve? You can always be actively doing something to improve
yourself. This may be going out in your community or globally and helping people in any way
that you can. You should not let money come between you and what your character could be.
Lastly, he says, those who are given the most, should do the most. In this quote, he is saying, if
someone has more resources given to them, they should use those resources to help others who
do not have as many as they need. Investing in people is the most important thing you can do.
The speech that Dr. Marc Lamont Hill gave was full of purpose. The keynote was a very nice

Flint and Beyond. Everyone that read the book was brought together again to listen to the author

Socialist and Dictatorial Experience of Chile Somnath Deshmukh
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
One of the most speculative experiences of conquest and dictatorship in the history of Latin
America has been the socialist and dictatorial regimes in Chile. Chile has gone through multiple
times of dictatorship, lead by the military, and also had lapses of a socialist government. The film
Machuca by Andres Wood provided an insight of the series of social events in Chilein 1973,
ranging from inter personal experiences to political issues and the Chilean nation. Two dictators,

This statement uttered within the walls of the school obviously echoes the broader context of class
oppression and antagonism that has fostered Chilean society since its inception (MartГn Cabrera
Voionmaa, 2007).
In Machuca , we realize the extremities of differences between the different classes in the Chilean
society, rooted mainly due to the lack of satisfaction of the two classes in the Socialist Unidad
Popular Government. The key to this interpretation is found in another important scene that takes
place midway through the movie. There is a meeting at the school so that the parents of the
students may have an opportunity to discuss the experiment of mixing children of different social
classes. The discussion is mainly between liberals and conservatives all of them middle or upper
middle class those who are in favour and those who are against the experiment . The parents of the
poor students are standing at the back of the room (a chapel) and listen without taking part in the
discussion, until the moment when Pedro s mother dares to speak out. For a moment we can hear
the subaltern s voice, whose story is the history of primitive accumulation and of the worker s
continuous separation from the means of production, the history of pure and naked exploitation
(MartГn Cabrera Voionmaa, 2007). She speaks about how the condition of the poorer sections of the

Marketing Involving Hispanic Americans and the Internet Essay
The Hispanic American culture in the United States is becoming increasingly important in
marketing and consumer behavior. This segment has different preferences, values and attitudes
towards a variety of products than average United States consumer. The Hispanic population in
America is the fastest growing, not only the largest minority population now, but their collective
purchasing power exceeds $400 billion (Mongrain). In conjunction with this, the internethas also
proven to be a vital marketingtool in the last decade. Internet uses typically represent a population
segment with higher incomes and greater levels of education. Two of the fastest growing marketing

It has been found that a much larger percentage of the Hispanic population lives in the western
United States than the general population and the smallest percentage in the Midwest. Interestingly,
the Internet Use by Region in the United States by Pew Internet American Life Project found the
greatest internet penetration among Hispanics in the Upper Midwest, at 67%, which far exceeds
the total internet usage of 59%. Other regions with larger Hispanic populations also have high
number of internet penetration, for example the Mountain region (including Colorado and
Nevada) and the Mid Atlantic region (including New York and New Jersey) have 63% and 62%,
respectively. Differences in habits not only exist between Hispanics in separate regions of the US
but also between Hispanics of different races.
The declaration of Hispanic dominance is a commonly mentioned turning point among those
companies targeting, or realizing they need to target, this diverse market. However, reaching the
US Hispanic market is more challenging than is often assumed. Not only are Hispanics the largest
single ethnic group in the US, they re not even a single racial group. People of Hispanic background
come from different nations, live in different regions, and enjoy different cultures; even the
language, which is often thought to connect all Hispanics, has many different dialects that divide it.

Othello, By William Shakespeare
It is not wise to attempt to judge another purely based on their outer shell; the showmanship of one
s character is demonstrated through the goodwill and integrity of their being. Women, while
commonly shown to have a weaker sense of character, could also reveal to have some of the
greatest shows of genuity. In one of Shakespeare s famous tragedies, Othello, the story revolves
around Othello, a Venetian general, who marries Desdemona, the daughter of a Venetian noble. Iago
whom Othello declares as his ancient despises him, and thus tries to destroy his marriage along
with him. Othello is easily ensnared within the traps Iago sets; this causes great paranoia and
distrust among Desdemona, and a series of rash decisions. Othello is... Show more content on

Through the tragic events of Othello, Desdemona and Emilia prove they display more strength of
character than the male characters with their compassion, courage and honesty. The kindness and
compassion that these two characters emanate truly show their strength through empathy, a trait
that is lacking in the male characters. Throughout the play, Desdemona constantly shows her
well meaning demeanor, and stops at nothing to assist a friend. One great example is when
Cassio pleas to her to help him in retrieving his job. Her sense of empathy and genuine care for
others compels her to help him in any way possible, even if it means putting herself in an
unfavourable position. She constantly nags Othello to reinstate Cassio, doing it out of the
compassion from her heart: Why then tomorrow night, or Tuesday morn, / On Tuesday noon or
night; on Wednesday morn. / I prithee name the time, but let it not / Exceed three days (III.iii.68
71). This kindness shows true strength of character, as an individual with great integrity will also
be aware of others, and assist their peers in times of need. This is in stark contrast with the male
characters, as they very rarely show acts of kindness. For example, the acts of kindness from
characters such as Iago are ingenuine, as he uses them to obtain his desires; Desdemona performs
these acts purely to aid others, with no personal gain for herself.

Progressive Tax Rate
It is fair that people who earn more income should pay a higher proportion of their income in tax.
The tax supports the administration of their country which provides the sort of operating
environment in which they are able to earn their wages in the first place. Even when paying a
higher marginal rate on the top end of their earnings, they will still take home more than people
who are paid less with a taxrate anything up to 100%. It is unfair that people who earn more
should pay at a progressive rate. Even on a standard rate, they already pay more tax, because they
have a higher taxable income. Therefore progressive tax rates are a form of double taxation, as
higher earners pay tax on more income, and then at a high level. This is... Show more content on

It also reduces the disparity in net pay and so lessens the economic divisions between different
members of society. Progressive taxation can encourage talented workers who earn high incomes
to move overseas to escape the tax system. This can create a brain drain . Alternatively, as the
marginal benefit of extra work falls, they may be less keen to spend more time on it, negatively
impacting productivity overall. Progressive taxation should increase the total tax take. This means
that increased funds are available for spending on worthwhile socially beneficial programmes, such
as education, health, environmental protection, etc. Progressive taxation is an inefficient way to
increase the tax take. Because of resentment, increased evasion, reduced incentive to work and
administrative complexities, a progressive tax rate can actually lessen rather than increase the
total tax take. This is in nobody s fiscal interest regardless of whether they favour small or large
amounts of taxpayer funded spending, since it equates to a more demanding system producing
less agreeable results. Progressive taxation acts as a discouragement to overinflated wages. There
is a decreasing marginal benefit to high, or higher, wages, since the earner will see less and less
of the extra gross pay actually appearing in their net pay packet. Therefore, the upward pressure on

Compare And Contrast The Cost Of Blockbuster Movies
How much does it cost to make a blockbuster movie? It takes a lot of work and money to make
movies. A film has to go through three stages of preproduction, production and post production in
order to create that film. There are many similarities from the studio system and the independent
system but today majority of the films are established with a combination of independents and the
major studios. Movies start in the preproduction phase where they began the process and start to
try to secure financing for their project. Sometimes producers have enough money to begin their
project. If they don t have any start up money to begin, they will have to try and market their ideas
of projection of costs and profits to investors. According to Barsam and Monahan (2016), No...

The movies are so expensive because there are so many costs that go in to a budget for a film.
Typically, the highest costs in films are for the cast and the industry has gotten creative to finding
ways to assist instead of paying a fee for an actor or producer upfront, to include it in the contract as
a percentage of the profits goes to them. Some examples of the costs of a movie are: Story, director,
producer, cinematography, cast and etc. The studio system will use a general manager to assist with
budget, while the independent system uses a producer. The marketing and distribution are a very
important stage in the post production phase. They need to gauge the interest of audiences by using
preview screenings along with questionnaires. Once they analyze all the information, they can adapt
or modify the distribution to ensure the most effective ways of getting their profits. Before the
Supreme Court Paramount Decision, the studio system controlled everything from production,
distribution and exhibition and now they have to use other companies to assist in the distribution
and exhibition. The independent system had different routes they could take by

Description And Description Of The Diagnosis
2. Description of the Diagnosis:
Hyponatremia is the consequence of a pathological change in intake and output and reflects an
exacerbation of the free water substance to solute degree and is connected to tonicity.
Hyponatremia is oftentimes accompanied by other medical conditions such as dehydration or
hypovolemia. Contemplations of hidden pathologies help the health awareness group in
distinguishing the complete etiological picture, alongside the treatment arrangement (Treas

There are various components involved in the management of electrolyte equalization. An
arrangement of complex connections between cardiovascular, renal, endocrine, cerebrum,
pneumonic, and vasculature structures. Despite the fact that Hyponatremia can start from a variety
of predecessors, instances of fluid and electrolyte irregularity s incorporate essential periphery
vasculature forerunners. The key structures included in a circumstance of hyponatremia incorporate
vessels, channels, interstitial fluid, and additionally the cells cytoplasm (Al Salman, Kemp,

Fluids within our bodies are fundamentally made out of water but also containing particles and

to do items is to make sure your phone works internationally. After all, those phone calls, photo
uploads, emails, maps, or the travel guide need a reliable connection. No, leaving the phone safely
at home is not an option here. But, how to ensure you stay connected abroad without breaking the
bank?Here are few tips,
1. Get your phone unlocked
Okay, so first thing first. Many phones are originally sold with a lock on its software, which
means it may not work with a new SIM card from another country installed. Unlocked phone means
you can use a cheaper SIM card to stay connected.
So, make sure your GSM phone is unlocked.
If you don t know if your phone is locked you can:
пЃ¬ask your operator, or
пЃ¬try and place another SIM in your phone and see if it recognizes the other operator network, or
пЃ¬Use one of the many sites on the web where you can get your phone unlocked quickly for a
few bucks. You just need to share your phone s IMEI ( International Mobile Equipment Identity
number), a unique 14 16 digit number that identifies your phone and follow few simple easy
steps to get it unlocked. Simply dial *#06# on your phone to check your IMEI. If a device is
reported stolen, the device will be unusable on most carrier networks even if the SIM card is

Analysis of Otherwise by Jane Kenyon
It Might Have Been Otherwise: Analysis of Otherwise by Jane Kenyon
Jane Kenyon, the author of Otherwise , once said, The poet s job is to put into words those
feelings we all have that are so deep, so important, and yet so difficult to name, to tell the truth in
such a beautiful way, that people cannot live without it. Jane died a few years later after writing this
poem, and it was published after her death. Otherwise is a meaningful poem that describes the
tender truth about death in a definite but beautiful way; it also emphasizes the pleasant normalcy in
life, and how everything will change.
This poem is basically about being thankful for having the simple cherished things in life, and how
it could be different. It is in two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These lines are used to show how grateful she is to be with her mate, and eat with specific, silver
candles:
At noon I lay down with my mate. It might have been otherwise.
We ate dinner together at a table with silver candlesticks. (13 18) She uses the line It might/ have
been otherwise (14 15) again after each of those lines to indicate how those simple, ordinary
things should not be taken for granted. Jane makes this line seem like a dream come true: I slept
in a bed/in a room with paintings/on the walls... (20 22).To most people, the sentence seems
simple, but to Jane, the paintings are symbolic of life, of being alive. The last lines imply that
one day the speaker will not wake up, eat a flawless peach, walk her dog, have dinner with
candlesticks, or sleep in a room with paintings because she knows one day everything will change:
But one day, I know/ it will be otherwise (25 26) .
Some other literary devices used in the poem are: repetition, imagery, and alliteration. For
repetition the line: It might have been otherwise is used throughout the poem repeatedly to
exaggerate the fact that anything could have happened. That line gives the poem a solemn, but
still pleasant mood. Imagery is used in these lines: I ate/ cereal, sweet/milk, ripe, flawless/peach (4
7). Jane uses those lines to describe everyday foods as if they were something special. Alliteration
is used in this line: ...my mate. It/ might... (14). The m

convicted of running the largest Ponzi scheme ever uncovered through his business, Bernard L.
Madoff Investment Securities, LLC (BMIS). Mr. Madoff claimed to actively oversee more than
$65 billion in private investments (it was later revealed that roughly $823 million remained of the
more than $170 billion that went through his accounts over the years).(1) Mr. Friehling flagrantly

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles have not been consistently observed. This also did not

The SEC probed Mr. Madoff s business on numerous occasions for sixteen years. Despite many
blatant warning signs, not once was there an investigation that uncovered the fraudulent auditing
being performed. Regarding the SEC, Madoff was quoted in a jailhouse interview as saying that it
never entered the SEC s mind that it was a Ponzi scheme, and also that he had too much credibility
with them and they dismissed the idea of a Ponzi scheme.(7)
The SEC contends that from 1991 through 2008 Mr. Friehling violated several different sections of
the Securities Act, Exchange Act, and Advisors Act. The SEC alleges Friehling was not aware of
the Ponzi scheme, but that he committed securities fraud by falsely representing he had performed
legitimate audits, falsely stating the audits were conducted in accordance with GAAS, falsely
stating that the financial statements were prepared under GAAP, and knowing that the auditreports
were distributed to customers.(8) The charges also include aiding and abetting investment adviser
fraud and filing false audit reports to the SEC. Mr. Friehling faces 105 years in prison if convicted
of all charges.

The Cycle From Nomadic To Sedentary And Then Conquered

The welcoming party was short lived, as the Visigoths were treated inhumanly by the Romans,
allowing many to starve to death, and exploiting the children of Goths in exchange for dog meat.
Feeling betrayed, in 376 AD, the Goths rebelled against Rome by plundering the nearby towns
with whatever they can take. The Goths would continue pillaging the countryside of Rome,
gathering resources and soldiers made up of prisoners of Rome and former slaves, and in 378 AD
they went up against the emperor Valens himself at the battle of Adrianople. Consequently,
Emperor Valens, along with two thirds of his armies, perished under the brute force of Fritigern
armies. This was one of the most devastating defeat to the Romans in centuries. The Visigoths
armies would split in 380 AD with the Greuthungi going north to invade, and the Therving going
south. The new Eastern Roman Emperor, Theodosius I, would campaign against the Goths and
either defeated or signed a peace treaty with the Greuthungi Goths. Western Rome would send two
generals to help its eastern counterpart against the remaining Goths producing no results, and in
382 AD, Rome would end the war with a treaty, allowing land distribution to the visigoths, while
they agreed to produce men for Rome s ever diminishing military. Rome would break the treaty
with the foreigners after the death of Theodosius I a few years later, creating a series of
catastrophic events for the western division of the empire. In 397 AD,

The Benefits of Social Security
Social security is any government system that provides monetary assistance to people with an
inadequate or no income. The United States government program was established in 1935. Social
security is important in the U.S. because it lifts 20 million people out of poverty. Social security
has changed drastically in the past few years of our society. Today, 37 million people get social
securitybenefits of more than $15 billion a month.
One way of getting a social security is to gain employment. The law requires every employer to
give social security counterparts for their employees, is they qualify. There are proven benefits of
having a Social Security membership. It aids in protection during retirement age, which is often a
time of lowered income and benefits. Social Security also helps during cases of permanent or
temporary disability. In case of death of the principal member, burial assistance will be tendered
for the grieving family. When loss of the principal member occurs, children aging from 18 and
below will get subsidy from the government for their educational needs and sustenance. The living
spouse will also receive monthly pensions. Furthermore, in cases of emergencies like
hospitalization due to sickness or accidents, the policy is applicable. If you are also in dire need of
additional amount because of poverty it can help too.

For a linear system, the coherence function is given as

The Importance Of Respect For The Dead
Respect for the Dead Introduction The aim of the current essay was to discuss the cultural,
ethical, and legal aspects concerning the respect for the dead. Besides, the cultural, ethical, and
legal factors were correlated with the practice of anatomy, everyday observations, and personal
experiences. Notably, what was regarded as appropriate respect for the dead varied based on an
individual s cultural beliefs and ethical (religion or professional) considerations. Background The
concerns associated with the respect for the dead emanate from the fact that the dead symbolise the
shared destiny of humans and reminiscence of the dearly departed. Therefore, the dead are by
design objects of fascination regardless of one s point of view. For instance, dead bodies elicit
attention in both medical pathology and traditions that venerate the dead and those that forbid such
forms of glorification. Therefore, the interests of the dead are not unique to the human anatomist
only. Interest for the dead encompasses religion, sociology, art history, feminist theory, and law.
Notably, the emerging multifaceted interest in the dead had raised fundamental questions regarding
the limits of what was legal, ethical, and moral in the use of palatinates, cadaver, and dissected
human (Jones 2016, p. 46). The fundamental concerns had been initially raised by humanity
scholars, not pathologists. Such concerns were informed by key issues such as how were the dead

Software Architecture Karsun Solutions LLC Herndon, USA Abstract Companies are adopting

In order to establish an architecture for a system, we need to know the purpose and scope of the
application, its importance and relationship to the overall strategic goals of the organization
based on known requirements of the system being developed. However in an Agile environment
where the requirements are groomed iteratively and change is constant, establishing architecture
and design would be a daunting task. Especially if the system being developed is large enterprise
level solution, iterative architecture and design could result in a lot of rework and redundancy. If
there are many integration points and functionality spans across multiple applications, defining
enterprise level architecture helps the software being developed to align with strategic goals of
the enterprise, helping business capabilities to be shared across organizations. But establishing
such architecture in an Agile environment would be challenging. This paper addresses this issue
and establishes a process for architecture development for enterprise level applications. The paper
defines a process to develop a software solution which spans across multiple legacy applications
using Agile principles . The approach explained in the paper has been adopted for the
development of software which modernizes legacy data capture and is intended to establish a
framework for enterprise level services in the future. The solution spans across 6 legacy software
systems.

How Does Marjane Satrapi Use Animation In Persepolis
In the animation Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi uses color in the beginning of the animation
during her present day life and black and white for flashbacks or her past life. The majority of
the animation is the story of Marjane s life in the past so it is in mostly black and white. This is
an interesting way of using color because in a way color is used as a form of timeline, there are
parts of the animation that switch from present to past, so Satrapi just switches from black and
white to color to show time period. I find this concept very appealing and creative. are the growing

instances when he justifies his actions out of fear. However, in Book Two, he begins reflect his
identity and consciousness. At the beginning of the novel, Bigger is aware of the societal line
and struggles under the oppression of white authority. This white authority angers Bigger which
causes him to think irrationally. For example, Bigger and his gang regularly robbed blacks in
his neighborhood; however the one time he thought about robbing a white man, a cloud of fear
strangled him. Bigger never crossed this white vs. black line until fear drives him to kill Mary
by accident. Though this action Bigger now has a purpose in life which is to survive. It was as

Analysis Of Rene Culler s The Glass
Rene Culler s career in glass which spans nearly 30 years consistently shows themes of both
personal growth and an increasing insight into mysticism throughout her work. Mysticism is
defined as Mystical, mysterious, and filled with wonder, mysticism is easily associated with
crystals, New Age theories, or the occult (the supernatural). The truth is the emphasis on spiritual
connection and union, and the mysteries of religion over dogma or rigid rules. Outside of religion,
mysticism is applied to cryptic, obscure, or irrational thought leaning toward mystery and wonder,
rather than logic. Culler s work shows her fascination with mysticism and her journey in an
concentrated combination of what is unexpected in the context of personal experiences in her Head
and Heart, Grail, and Magic Square series to name an few. Perhaps one of the most intriguing and
thought provoking aspects of her work is that Culler presents items that could have a purpose and
then transforms them into an surreal interpretation of practicality shrouded in experienced reality.
As a method of constantly challenging a perceived functionality process became very important to
Culler, so much so that she developed her own technical process to create her sculptures. She self
named the process as Kiln Transformed Glass. Culler s daring in functionality directly affected the
process she now embraces. This process enables her to combine three forms of glass art; Kiln

LGBT adoption. People that are against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender says that gay
couple are going to abuse their child, that same sex couples would make their child develop
unwanted abilities and more. Why does people say things like these, do they have actually prof?
My opinion about LGBT adoption is that I think they should be allowed to adopt, because every
child have the right to have a family and it is better for child to live in a foster home than an
orphanage.
Why say those who are against LGBT adoptions that same sex couples are going to abuse they

Literary Elements In The Jungle, By Upton Sinclair
The Jungle Essay
In the novel The Jungle by Upton Sinclair there are many ways that different literary elements are
used to explore a political or social issue. One main issue has to do with the meat packing industry
and how the workers are treated. In the novel, the main character had moved to America to find
work and live the American Dream but his time in America was anything but a dream. Upton
Sinclair uses many literary elements in his work to show imagery, metaphors/ similes and
personification all why relating to the social issue of the packing industry.
Sinclair uses imagery well to go in depth when describing the setting of a place or when talking
about the living conditions of his characters. For example in chapter two when Jurgis

What Problem of Motivation Did Archie Norman Discover at...
1.What problem of motivation did Archie Norman discover at ASDA?
ASDA was one of the most successful retail businesses in the United Kingdom. It had a
competitive advantage due to its unique superstore structure and its low price leadership in the
market. Everything changed all of a sudden as ASDA found itself with demoralized employees,
slow growth in sales, and declining profits in 1991 due to many years of lack of interest from
previous managers. It had been a 1 billion pounds cash surplus supermarket chain in 1987, and by
1991 it had a debt of over 1 billion pounds. This was the situation that Archie Norman encountered
at ASDA when appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The main reasons of the problems that ASDA and Archie Norman... Show more content on

10. Decide what to communicate to the shareholders and the employees about his plans for the near

Some of the top priorities and the changes I would have done included the following actions and
issues: 1. Communicate the importance of the urgent need for cash. 2. Re build ASDA stores
around its original core values, emphasizing its competitive advantage in lower prices and targeting
the low amp; middle class working individuals. 3. Establish a culture oriented environment based on
common goals and values like listening, learning, and speed of response, from the store upwards to
the headquarters. 4. Reorganization at the management level in order to keep a clear focus, shorten
lines of communication and build an efficient management team. 5. Prioritize the importance of
happy employees to make sure ASDA became ...a true people oriented business.
4. Please review some of the video clips about how ASDA promotes itself (now being part of Wal
Mart), how common people seem to love to hate ASDA, and how the chain has evolved since
ASDA case was written, then answer the following:

The Importance Of Meaning In The Monkey s Paw
Have you ever wanted to have three magic wishes that could get you anything you have ever
wanted or needed in life? Well, these people did and they got it but unfortunately for some of them
they got more than they wished for. Such as in The Monkey s Paw they asked for a simple very
conservative sum yet they got anything but that in return. And in the third wishMr. Peter was very
happy then became very distraught by his first wish. Although these stories are the same in the
three wishes they are different in the overall mood and feeling of the story. Both, Mr. Peters and
Mr. White were warned of the extreme dangers of making these wishes it could even possibly
cause them death. Which in The Monkey s paw it did for the White family unfortunately

Mental Illnesses And Its Effects On Mental Illness
Mental illnesses are generally characterized by changes in mood, thought, or behavior. They can
make daily activities difficult and impair a person s ability to work, interact with family, and
fulfill other major life functions (SAMHSA, 2015). Contemplated early on in history, treatments
for mental illness looked to cure the reflections of the anger of gods, demonic possession, sorcery,
the evil eye, or an angry deity, responded with equally mystical, and brutal treatments (Nash,
2007). Attempts to treat mental illness date back as early as 5000 BCE as verified by the
discovery of trephined skulls in regions of ancient world cultures (Porter, 2002, p. 10). Only a few
realized that individuals with mental illness should be treated humanely rather than exorcised,
punished, or banished. Psychiatryhas come a long way since the days patients were shunned from
society and shackled in asylums. Experiments and techniques for treating mental illness from
ancient times to the turn of the 20th century have paved the way for the treatment plans used today.
The history of mental illness represents the ways in which trends in psychiatry and cultural
understanding of mental illness influence thoughts and attitudes towards mental health. The earliest
records of mental illness show that many cultures have viewed it as a form of religious punishment
or demonic possession. In ancient Egyptian, Indian, Greek, and Roman writings, mental illness was
categorized as a religious or personal

Examples Of Probable Causes
The Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution states the following: the right of the
people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches
and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause,
supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the

their Fourth Amendment right when coming into contact with a law enforcement officer.

With the vast amounts of new technology within the law enforcement world for gaining
information on possible criminal activity, it becomes easier to violate the Fourth Amendment right
of citizens. One example of how the Fourth Amendment right of a person was violated due to
technology was Kyllo v. United States (2001) in which a thermal imaging device was used by
federal agents to determine that a house in the state of Oregon was growing marijuana due to
irregular heat patterns within the residence (Fuqua Stevens, 2014). The Court once again reviewed
and upheld the constitutionality of the case due to the fact that the agents did not request a search
warrant prior to using the thermal imaging device on a private residence, but the Courts did advise
that a warrant should have been obtained to use the thermal imaging device and any other similar
technological devices that would be used on a private dwelling (Dempsey, Forst, Carter, 2014).
Given society s increasing reliance on technology, including smart phones and other Internet
connected devices, it is fair to say that the Supreme Court is not done grappling with the
implications of advancing technology (Fuqua Stevens,

What Are The Four Layers Of The Contextual Theory Of...
When communicators are interacting with others, there are many behavioral and psychological
facets that influences their judgment. Kim s Theory makes up four layers that portrays how and
why people interact the way they do. The communicator layer will be examined through the
dissection of identity inclusivity, identityexclusivity, identity security and identity insecurity.
The Four Layers of the Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication Young Yun Kim s
Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication comprises of four layers: the environment, the
situation, the communicator, and the behavior. All of these layers work together in order to create
what Kim calls a communication event (Kim, 2005). When interethnic communication occurs, the
communicators identify some form of distinctiveness from the conversational partner in terms of
ethnicity or other identity aspects. The environment layer describes the larger social setting, so
aspects such as institutional influences. The next layer, the situation, is ingrained in the
environment layer. According to Kim, the situation layer describes the actual interethnic meeting.
In this context, the communicator will engage with their conversational partner(s) (Kim, 2005).
Following the situation layer is the communicator layer. This gets more specific with the personal
identities of the communicator and the people they are interacting with. The communicator layer
will be the focus of this paper. Lastly, the behavioral layer

Drugs And Drugs In H. G Bissinger s Friday Night Lights
Football is America s go to entertainment sport. The NFL hit its peak in 2015, with an average of
114.1 million television viewers throughout the year ( Statista, 2017). This sport is loved by all,
the players, parents, coaches, and fans. But, is football merely entertainment? Is it just a simple
game, teaching young boys the value of teamwork, dedication, and discipline? Are parents
spending their Friday nights to support their boys, or is there something bigger happening? In H.G

idea of football is way beyond just a simple game because his addiction to it has altered his brain
in the way he possesses the game. The final stage of drug use is the aftermath. Once someone
can no longer get the drug, they are left with serious side effects and the life that they had before
the abuse, is not a figment of their imagination. Once these boys get football taken away from
them, they are left with nothing. If one is injured and cannot return to play, they are left without

which results in little to no academic future for them. We see this when Jerrod McDougal is

Protecting Pesticides In Frogs
Without herbicides, the most widely used class of pesticides in the United States, crop
production and yields would drop, pristine habitat would have to be plowed under to
accommodate more crop acres, and the additional cultivation would result in more soil erosion
(Brandon). Pesticides also protect the crop from rodents and insects who want to feed off of them.
By eliminating the pests, there is a lesser chance of diseases (which the rodents and insects carry
with them). It also ensures the healthiness of the crop and allows us to have popular produce year

dramatically pesticides minimize health issues, their toxic chemical components are a leading...

are used for medicinal purposes. Treatments from frogs alone include toxins from the

our numbers of human population will too. There won t be any more medical, chemical, and

Stereotypes In Language Arts
Language arts Essay
The definition of stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a
particular type of person or thing. Many characters are stereotyped in this novel because of the
image of god and the beliefs of blasphemies. Joseph is stereotyped very well, some examples are
cold hearted, strong willed and bad tempered. Joseph is David s father, is the priest of the town, he
is strongly against blasphemies.
Cold hearted describes Joseph as a very abusive father and has no sympathy for his son David.
When Sophie s secret was let out David had a huge secret to hold for everyone mainly against his
father who is against blasphemies, later in the story Sophie s 6 toes secret gets let out and her family
leaves town, David arrives late that night depressed that his friend left and Joseph questions
David why he was out and what s going on. David responds as I don t know trying to hide Sophie s
secret his father then beats David until he speaks and lets out Sophie s secret. Joseph is the

Family level risk factors are parental rejection and neglect. Inconsistent child rearing practices or
punitive discipline can also play a part. Physical and sexual abuse may cause the onset of
conduct disorder. Lack of supervision, multiple changes in caregivers, and institutional learning

crime records are high risk factors for conduct disorder. Conduct disorder can develop due to
family psychopathology, for example substance related disorders. The community can play a part

the unbearable lightness of being Essay
The Unheard Voice of Commitment nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; What the reader understands
of the infidelity of Milan Kundera s characters in The Unbearable Lightness of Being is a mere
distraction from the real substance of the story and of the character s real purpose. Kundera
offers the reader a red herring and only through close examination can one dissect and abstract the
true essence of each character s thread that links them to one another in this story. For it is not
clearly seen: in fact, it can not be seen at all. It is the fierce absence of the word commitment that
is so blatantly seen in each individual, yet the word itself is buried so deeply inside of Tomas and

Her feeling was rather that, given the nature of the human couple, the love of man and woman is
a priori inferior to that which can exist (at least in the best instances) in the love between man
and dog, that oddity of human history probably unplanned by the creator (297). Tereza knew as
the dog lay dying that the reason why she snuggled so close to Karenin was her commitment.
That same commitment was the reason why she still slept next to Tomas every night. Love,
whether we perceive it or not, has a hold that stitches souls together in the patchwork of life. It
was not until after the dog s death that Tomas grasped this idea as well. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
nbsp;Karenin proved to be a symbol of Tomas and Tereza s marriage and the prospect of death
seemed to inevitably doom the marriage. Tereza understood that Karenin s commitment to
please was the reason why the dog held on. Kundera s following passage reflects this, It was sad,
what she said, yet without realizing it they were happy. They were happy not in spite of their
sadness but thanks to it. They were holding hands and both had the same image in their eyes: a
limping dog who represented ten years of their lives (293). In the existence of a dog there was a
light. This light did not fade when the dog s existence was ceased, yet grew brighter in the eyes of
a man. Tomas learned that in his years of endless escapades and rendevous with strange woman,
was his resistence to love and commitment to Tereza. He

How Can Historians Make Use Of The Stories That The Romans
How can historians make use of the stories that the Romans told about their founders and
foundations? Abstract. There are two distinct stories regarding the foundation of ancient Rome,
with claims to two founders. The story of Romulus and Remus describes the literal foundation of
the city where as the Aeneid addresses the origins in the foundations of the Roman people being
descended from Aeneas. In regards to their use to historians, though there is debate as to the
legitimacy of historical facts, looking beyond the actual story and noting the difference between
versions particularly in Romulus and Remus can give clues of Roman society during the time of it
being written. The information contained within the stories of foundation reflects the needs of the
Romans citizens and the influences of the era. Introduction. Through the study of past evidence,
historians become capable of creating educated interpretations of the past based on such evidence
and previous knowledge. Difficulty in interpretation does not come from insufficient evidence, with
an abundance of preserved historical works from writers, Livy and Dionysius of Halicarnassus for
example, but the unreliable nature of literary tradition (Cornell, 1986) resulting in differentiated
opinions of the usefulness of ancient evidence particularly with the incompatible stories of Roman
foundation. The usefulness of stories from Romans can become increasingly valuable though there
are some historians of the opinion the

What Are The Similarities Between Panhenome And Parthenon Compare and contrast of two famous buildings from ancient Rome and Greece: Parthenon in Athens and the Pantheon in Rome Student X University of the People AHIST 1401 Introduction In antiquity many buildings were erected, for various reasons and with various Architectures. In the case of the Pantheon in Rome and the Parthenon in Greece, although their names are quite similar, they have certainly commonalities but also many differences that are important, not to mention the influence of Greek art on Roman art. An ESL teacher at a local elementary school referred Juan S. to her. Juan came to the center with his mother, Silvia. Before seeing Juan and his mother, the social worker called the ESL teacher who referred Juan to her to discuss the case. The teacher reported that Juan was showing little interest in classroom activities or his peers, and always seemed exhausted. He was irritable and frequently became physically aggressive toward classmates who made fun of him for being so small and thin (sometimes calling him mosquito ). Juan was present during that shooting, and barely escaped with his own life. Silvia then made the decision to take her remaining two children to America, and contacted her cousin who lived in Brownsville, TX to help her slip across the border. The cousin was able get someone to smuggle Silvia, Jaime and Juan across the border at the cost of $10,000. They crossed the border on foot and were met by someone who hid them under the hay placed in the feeding troughs of a cattle truck. They were left there for two days without food or water in 98 degree weather while the truck made its way to the Texas Arkansas border. There they were picked up by her cousin who placed them on a bus to W. Palm Beach Fl where another cousin lived. Silvia must now pay back the $10,000 she owes her cousin. The mother indicated that the family was having great difficulty financially because, without papers, Silvia and Jaime were having trouble finding jobs, and Silvia was afraid to apply for public assistance. She had recently obtained a job as a housekeeper and nanny for a wealthy family with 3 young children. The family, however, did not pay her each week as promised, and when they did pay her, they sometimes paid less than the agreed amount. Sylvia was afraid to complain because she feared the family might turn her in to the immigration authorities. She was searching for other work but had not found anything. Jaime worked as ... • 5. A Speech On Western Kentucky University My fellow Colonels, I could start my address to you with a clichГ© statement about how today marks the first day of the rest of our lives. I could say that today is where your book begins, and that the rest is still unwritten. I could say that my wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to, or that you are the wind beneath my wings, or that baby, you re a firework! But I won t. I won t begin with a clichГ© statement because EKU is not a school full of clichГ© students. Eastern Kentucky University has proven to be a school full of clever individuals. It is a school as diverse in its student body as it is unified in its collegiate pride. It is a school of students empowered to utilize their brains in a way that allows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a term plastered across buildings and campus wide emails. Diversity is a word a majority of students feel well and truly acquainted with, and for good reason. The standard answer I have received when I ask students what diversity means to them relates to the coming together of different cultures. The exercise of this understood definition is seen plainly on the campus of EKU. The encouragement of diversity has encouraged me to experience other cultures in ways I would not have had opportunities to otherwise. The exposure to the word itself, however, has challenged me to look beyond the common understanding of the word. As an English major (with a literature concentration!) I love words. I love to look up their meanings and see how many different ways those meanings can be interpreted and applied to assorted situations. When I looked into the word diversity, I found that, while most commonly applied to multiculturalism in various settings, it can be applied to countless other aspects of life as well. Some of these areas, like diversity in foods, are also aspects of diversity in cultures. In a way, one can lead to the other. For example, I was recently introduced to Indian food while I was overseas. In my opinion, it is the best food ever. My appreciation for this culture s food led to a desire to learn more about other aspects of this culture. On the other hand, I am a proud Greek. The outbreak of BSE (Mad Cow Disease) is an example of this. Mosquitoes that carry malaria have been found on planes and so have infected seafood carrying cholera bacteria being shipped by boat. Compression of time through international air travel, boats, etc. make it likely for people to cross continents in periods of time shorter than the incubation periods of most diseases. Because of this people can infect others unbeknownst to them that anything is wrong. The globalization of food supplies needs safety standards for food production and processing. There should also be laws to protect their status in the country since they are part of it. They should have access to adequate health care and insurance and be paid sick leave. To not do this will only put the whole country at risk at outbreaks of food borne illnesses. New innovations in technology would help a great deal in decreasing the spread of disease. For example, finding an alternative way to have air in an airplane. The way we now have it the air in an airplane simply recirculates the air that s already there. So the diseases in the airplane are rebreathed and don t go away for the duration of the plan ride. This poses a greater risk for infection. A way to replace the air continually would decrease the risk. Dealing with the increase in urbanization in developing countries I found a lot more difficult to think about. None of the solutions seem easy and the problems are ongoing. There are too many people living in these urban area mostly for the pursuit of work, they don t have adequate drinking water, they have waste problems, along with a whole bunch of unsanitary conditions. The best I can think of is to have them be educated in jobs that they can do online so that they don t have the need to move to these areas. But this also brings of the question of how these laptops would be provided to teach them and how they would get wifi. Also there needs to be a system in place to get them access to clean ... The point of shot helped appeal to ethos, because the viewers were able to relate to Arthur s sadness and loneliness more easily. James uses sad non diegetic music to show how bad Arthur s home life has gotten. The music plays when Arthur s mom talks about losing her job, which signifies how traumatic this event is. Steve James uses a primary footage technique to show how Arthur has lost focus in school. The footage shows Arthur goofing off in class with his troubled friend. The technique helps show how Arthur s life is slowly falling apart, and how his values and motivation have shifted and not for the better. Meanwhile, William is being helped financially in his new school which is keeping him motivated to succeed. • 16. Marc Lamont Hill s Speech Analysis Dr. Marc Lamont Hill gave the 2017 All Bonaventure Reads keynote at St. Bonaventure University this past Monday. During the summer, the freshman class all read Hill s book, Nobody: Casualties of America s War on The Vulnerable from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond. In the book, many thought provoking events that are a part of America s history were discussed. The theme of the keynote was why people are put into the category of a nobody. Hill opens his speech by relating the events that he talked about in his book to current events, like football players kneeling during the National Anthem. Bringing up a current event is a good opener because it engaged his young audience by stating a controversial subject. Hill said that when he first started writing he wanted to write a book about what happened in Ferguson, Missouri with Michael Brown. He showed emotion when he was giving this part of the speech to give emphasis to the tragedy of what happened. When it occurred, he had to do a story on it for the news without physically being there.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, he asks, how can I improve? Machuca Essay Socialist and Dictatorial Experience of Chile Somnath Deshmukh University of Illinois Urbana Champaign One of the most speculative experiences of conquest and dictatorship in the history of Latin America has been the socialist and dictatorial regimes in Chile. Chile has gone through multiple times of dictatorship, lead by the military, and also had lapses of a socialist government. The film Machuca by Andres Wood provided an insight of the series of social events in Chilein 1973, ranging from inter personal experiences to political issues and the Chilean nation. This statement uttered within the walls of the school obviously echoes the broader context of class oppression and antagonism that has fostered Chilean society since its inception (MartГn Cabrera Voionmaa, 2007). In Machuca , we realize the extremities of differences between the different classes in the Chilean society, rooted mainly due to the lack of satisfaction of the two classes in the Socialist Unidad Popular Government. The key to this interpretation is found in another important scene that takes place midway through the movie. There is a meeting at the school so that the parents of the students may have an opportunity to discuss the experiment of mixing children of different social classes. The discussion is mainly between liberals and conservatives all of them middle or upper middle class those who are in favour and those who are against the experiment . The parents of the poor students are standing at the back of the room (a chapel) and listen without taking part in the discussion, until the moment when Pedro s mother dares to speak out. For a moment we can hear the subaltern s voice, whose story is the history of primitive accumulation and of the worker s continuous separation from the means of production, the history of pure and naked exploitation (MartГn Cabrera Voionmaa, 2007). Othello, By William Shakespeare It is not wise to attempt to judge another purely based on their outer shell; the showmanship of one s character is demonstrated through the goodwill and integrity of their being. Women, while commonly shown to have a weaker sense of character, could also reveal to have some of the greatest shows of genuity. In one of Shakespeare s famous tragedies, Othello, the story revolves around Othello, a Venetian general, who marries Desdemona, the daughter of a Venetian noble. Through the tragic events of Othello, Desdemona and Emilia prove they display more strength of character than the male characters with their compassion, courage and honesty. The kindness and compassion that these two characters emanate truly show their strength through empathy, a trait that is lacking in the male characters. Throughout the play, Desdemona constantly shows her well meaning demeanor, and stops at nothing to assist a friend. One great example is when Cassio pleas to her to help him in retrieving his job. Her sense of empathy and genuine care for others compels her to help him in any way possible, even if it means putting herself in an unfavourable position. She constantly nags Othello to reinstate Cassio, doing it out of the compassion from her heart: Why then tomorrow night, or Tuesday morn, / On Tuesday noon or night; on Wednesday morn. / I prithee name the time, but let it not / Exceed three days (III.iii.68 71). This kindness shows true strength of character, as an individual with great integrity will also be aware of others, and assist their peers in times of need. This is in stark contrast with the male characters, as they very rarely show acts of kindness. For example, the acts of kindness from characters such as Iago are ingenuine, as he uses them to obtain his desires; Desdemona performs these acts purely to aid others, with no personal gain for herself. ... The tax supports the administration of their country which provides the sort of operating environment in which they are able to earn their wages in the first place. Even when paying a higher marginal rate on the top end of their earnings, they will still take home more than people who are paid less with a taxrate anything up to 100%. It is unfair that people who earn more should pay at a progressive rate. Even on a standard rate, they already pay more tax, because they have a higher taxable income. Progressive taxation should increase the total tax take. This means that increased funds are available for spending on worthwhile socially beneficial programmes, such as education, health, environmental protection, etc. Progressive taxation is an inefficient way to increase the tax take. Because of resentment, increased evasion, reduced incentive to work and administrative complexities, a progressive tax rate can actually lessen rather than increase the total tax take. The Importance Of Respect For The Dead Respect for the Dead Introduction The aim of the current essay was to discuss the cultural, ethical, and legal aspects concerning the respect for the dead. Besides, the cultural, ethical, and legal factors were correlated with the practice of anatomy, everyday observations, and personal experiences. Notably, what was regarded as appropriate respect for the dead varied based on an individual s cultural beliefs and ethical (religion or professional) considerations. Background The concerns associated with the respect for the dead emanate from the fact that the dead symbolise the shared destiny of humans and reminiscence of the dearly departed. Therefore, the dead are by design objects of fascination regardless of one s point of view. For instance, dead bodies elicit attention in both medical pathology and traditions that venerate the dead and those that forbid such forms of glorification. Therefore, the interests of the dead are not unique to the human anatomist only. Interest for the dead encompasses religion, sociology, art history, feminist theory, and law. Notably, the emerging multifaceted interest in the dead had raised fundamental questions regarding the limits of what was legal, ethical, and moral in the use of palatinates, cadaver, and dissected human (Jones 2016, p. 46). The fundamental concerns had been initially raised by humanity scholars, not pathologists. Such concerns were informed by key issues such as how were the dead bodies obtained ... Especially if the system being developed is large enterprise level solution, iterative architecture and design could result in a lot of rework and redundancy. If there are many integration points and functionality spans across multiple applications, defining enterprise level architecture helps the software being developed to align with strategic goals of the enterprise, helping business capabilities to be shared across organizations. However, in Book Two, he begins reflect his identity and consciousness. At the beginning of the novel, Bigger is aware of the societal line and struggles under the oppression of white authority. This white authority angers Bigger which causes him to think irrationally. For example, Bigger and his gang regularly robbed blacks in his neighborhood; however the one time he thought about robbing a white man, a cloud of fear strangled him. Bigger never crossed this white vs. black line until fear drives him to kill Mary by accident. Though this action Bigger now has a purpose in life which is to survive. Analysis Of Rene Culler s The Glass Rene Culler s career in glass which spans nearly 30 years consistently shows themes of both personal growth and an increasing insight into mysticism throughout her work. Mysticism is defined as Mystical, mysterious, and filled with wonder, mysticism is easily associated with crystals, New Age theories, or the occult (the supernatural). The truth is the emphasis on spiritual connection and union, and the mysteries of religion over dogma or rigid rules. Outside of religion, mysticism is applied to cryptic, obscure, or irrational thought leaning toward mystery and wonder, rather than logic. Culler s work shows her fascination with mysticism and her journey in an concentrated combination of what is unexpected in the context of personal experiences in her Head and Heart, Grail, and Magic Square series to name an few. Perhaps one of the most intriguing and thought provoking aspects of her work is that Culler presents items that could have a purpose and then transforms them into an surreal interpretation of practicality shrouded in experienced reality. As a method of constantly challenging a perceived functionality process became very important to Culler, so much so that she developed her own technical process to create her sculptures. She self named the process as Kiln Transformed Glass. Culler s daring in functionality directly affected the process she now embraces. They can make daily activities difficult and impair a person s ability to work, interact with family, and fulfill other major life functions (SAMHSA, 2015). Contemplated early on in history, treatments for mental illness looked to cure the reflections of the anger of gods, demonic possession, sorcery, the evil eye, or an angry deity, responded with equally mystical, and brutal treatments (Nash, 2007). Attempts to treat mental illness date back as early as 5000 BCE as verified by the discovery of trephined skulls in regions of ancient world cultures (Porter, 2002, p. 10). Only a few realized that individuals with mental illness should be treated humanely rather than exorcised, punished, or banished. Psychiatryhas come a long way since the days patients were shunned from society and shackled in asylums. Experiments and techniques for treating mental illness from ancient times to the turn of the 20th century have paved the way for the treatment plans used today. The history of mental illness represents the ways in which trends in psychiatry and cultural understanding of mental illness influence thoughts and attitudes towards mental health. The earliest records of mental illness show that many cultures have viewed it as a form of religious punishment or demonic possession.
