Aryabhata was a famous Indian mathematician and astronomer born in 476 CE in Kerala, India. He authored the book 'Aryabhatiya' which covered several branches of mathematics including algebra, arithmetic, and trigonometry. In the book, he introduced concepts like place value system and the use of zero. He also approximated pi to be 3.1416 and noted it as an irrational number. For his contributions to mathematics and astronomy, India named its first satellite after him and established research institutes in his honor.

The beginnings of astronomy are related to the requirements of the ritual in early cultures. Ritual was a means of securing divine approval and support for terrestrial actions. To be effective, it had to be elaborate and well-timed, so that a careful distinction could be made between auspicious and inauspicious times.
(Note that mathematical problems such as obtaining the square root of two and approximate value of pi ( circumference of a circle divided by its diameter) were taken up in the context of preparation of fire altars and are discussed in the Shrautasutras.)
Since planetary motions provided a natural means of time keeping and were seen as couriers of divine signals. Skies were therefore regularly monitored. This was the beginning of astronomy as an intellectual discipline.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Born: 476 CE, Kerala India
Education : Patna Bihar
Died: 550 CE (at age 74),
4. His work
Aryabhatiya’ a book which was a
compilation of mathematics and astronomy.
It covers several branches of mathematics such
as algebra, arithmetic, plane and spherical
trigonometry.
5. Mathematics
1. Place value system of a number
His work on place value system of number through letter.
Aryabhata clearly mentions in his book when we take a limited
set of number from 1,2,3,…. 9 and combine them to represent
bigger numerical values like 892409.
“from place to place increase 10 times”.
OnesOnesThousandsThousands
8 9 2 4 0 9
6. 2. Zero
Aryabhata gave the world the digit "0" (zero) for
which he became immortal. He used zero as to
denote empty space in a number system.
7. 3. Pi(π)
Aryabhata work on the approximation for pi
(π)
Ratio of circumference to diameter is 3.1416.
i.e. π = 3.14
π is an irrational number.
