Telling a social story

  1. Purpose of today is to show how the use of photography in social media can enhance your brand. Key isn’t the camera gear that you use but the story you tell and I am going to share some ways of helping to tell the story more effectively. Question, can anyone tell me what the story I am telling in these five images? I’ve told you what the event was, what we had to do, the amazing scenery and that I finished 54 miles in just under 22 hours. All through photographs, no need to type out 500 words to tell the story and it much more engaging to someone coming onto your social media platforms.
  2. Don’t stay on slide for too long, let it be there long enough for people to start reading but not get to end
  3. Talk about the things on the previous slide but show that the visual was a more engaging way to tell the story
  4. Talk about different types of cameras and the benefits and disadvantages of each DSLR – High quality images for publishing; more capability to be creative with apertures and shutter speed; bulky; expensive; need to process Bridge Camera – Good quality images for publishing; some control over aperture and shutter, less heavy, little less expensive, still need to process Point and Shoot – OK quality, camera decides your photo but has functions; easy to carry, needs processing Phone – OK quality, camera decides but you can buy apps, you always have it with you, instant edit and publish
  5. In a group of three’s match a photo to the device – have a purposely bad DSLR to show that it’s not quality of camera. Talk about composition
  6. Introduce concept of letting photos tell a story, have a beginning, middle and end and show that it can be done with either one image or multiple images. Show examples of photos that do this from past shoots
  7. Get the entire group to agree which images can tell the story of the evening.
