What is Salmonellosis
Salmonella is a bacteria which can cause Salmonellosis, a type of food
poisoning . It affects the stomach and the intestines. In more serious cases it may
even enter the lymph tracts, which carry water and blood. The symptoms
are diarrhea, headaches, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting, and fever. There
are about 40,000 cases reported in the U.S each year. It may even cause
dehydration.
Risk factors
Children are also at risk of getting more severe cases. Most People tend to get it
during the summer time. Children have a higher risk of getting salmonellosis.
Older people and People who have a weak immune system . Even though it may
sound silly but people can also be carriers of this virus. They may not show
symptoms but they have it and may or may not pass it down. These people need
a surgery to remove it.
Dehydration
Dehydration may happen why while having this by throwing up and
constantly having diarrhea. When a person gets severely dehydrated it is
dangerous because the cells needs water for the body to function. It may
even cause a person to go into shock.
Where can it be found
It can be found in poultry, eggs, milk, and meat. It can also be found on turtles,
rodents such as hamsters and mice and birds. However when eating any of the above
foods it may not taste or smell different
It can also be found on cats, hamsters and
 sometimes dogs..
What are the causes?

The causes for this may be not washing your
hands thoroughly before you eat, eating raw eggs,
eating food that has been contaminated with
salmonella, and people not washing their hands
before handling your food. It then travels to the
           small intestine
Cases of Salmonella recalls in the
U.S Some foods that have been recalled for containing sa
                 past include:
                 beef jerky
                 peanut butter
                 ground beef products
                 chef salad containing poultry.
Is it Deadly?
It is deadly when the bacteria leaves the intestines and goes into the
blood stream, but it is very rare. For most people it tends to go away in a
few days without any antibiotics unless it has gone into the blood stream.
People with weak immune systems have the rick of getting a more
serious case where the salmonella goes into the blood stream and the
antibodies are not produced well or they may have fewer antibodies..
About 400 people people in the U.S die from this every year. But it is not
 very deadly.
Why is it important?

This is important to know because you may never know what you eat
may include salmonella, even though it doesn't look or taste any
different. Also most cases are reported in the summer so instead of
being out with you friends you may end up staying at home throwing up
or in the bathroom if you don’t take a few precautions.
How can it be prevented?
It can be prevented by cooking food thoroughly,
before eating or handling food , washing cookin
them, do not eat under cooked eggs and keep ra
from fruits, vegetables and cooked food.
Standards
10e. Students know why an individual with a comprised immune
system may be unable to fight off and survive infections by micro
organisms that are benign.
2g Students know how to predict possible combinations of alleles
in a zygote from the genetic makeup of the parents.
