This presentation discusses the difference between technology use and technology integration in education. Technology use is when students learn from technology, while technology integration is when students learn with technology throughout the learning process. Some examples of technology integration are interactive whiteboards, blogging, and wikis. The presenter believes that teachers should integrate technology as much as possible into their lesson plans, as it engages students and allows them to learn with technology rather than just from it.

2. The BIG Difference So what is the difference between technology use and technology integration? Technology use is when information is learned from the technology. Technology integration is when we learn with the technology throughout the process. Integration allows students to learn with , not from the technology.

3. Benefits of Technology Integration Engage learners in reflective, critical thinking about the ideas they are studying. Students and teachers will be fully involved throughout the learning process. The students learn more because they are not being lectured to, rather they are taking part in hands-on activities which tend to remain in the memory longer.

4. Weaknesses of Technology Use Students are not engaged in learning Teachers are not being creative with their teaching methods, which in turn does not keep students interested. This type of learning requires no work from the student. Students can not make a connection with the material as easily, which usually means the students will remember less.

5. Examples of Technology Integration Interactive Whiteboard- Teachers and students both can use as a learning tool in the classroom. Blogging-Teachers and students can learn away from the classroom. Parents and Teachers can also communicate through this system. Wiki- Teachers and students can do group projects and communicate outside of the classroom.

6. More Excellent Examples Google Earth- An excellent way to learn about the earth through use of the internet. Classroom Performance Systems (CPS)- a great way to conduct quizzes during class and take attendance. Every student is tuned in on a screen and everyone is anonymous. Tablets- great way for students to express their thoughts and share with others who can write on the tablet also. Video Conferencing- students can witness live experiences that may pertain to a chosen field.

7. My View I feel that we need to integrate as much technology into our lessons plans as possible. Technology has come a long way in the past 20 years and it is still improving at an ever increasing rate. It is our job to keep students up on the latest technology. These students need to be using the technology in the classroom to complete projects and homework. The technology needs to be interesting and needs to be integrated into the process of learning. As teachers, we must find technology fun and interesting so our students feel the same way.
