The Promising Teacher of the 21st
Century
This activity aims to establish the educational practices of teachers in today’s century.
Visit a class of the same specialization/major as yours, then, observe the teaching methods and strategies being
practiced in class and fill out the table below. The class observation in the same class may not be limited to one
visitation. Observe as many times as you wish for as long as the objective of this activity is attained.

Paper-and-Pencil
Tests
Were the instructional materials categorized under educational technologies? How were they used effectively in
the teaching and learning process?
Yes! All instructional materials either old or new are categorized as educational technologies. The laptop the
skeletal system model and the projector are all educational technologies. The teacher used the projector to give off
the information so the students can easily read the information being projected while the skeletal system model is
useful to pin point the different types of bones and joints.
Describe the teaching practices employed in the class. How did it expand students’ acquisition of 21st
century
skills?
The teacher just fed the students the information by basically projecting the information through a projector
then explaining it deeply and concisely. It develops the communication and collaboration skills of learners which is a
skill needed to be called as 21st
century skills.

Making my Learning Global
This activity aims to let students realize their significant roles in making their learning global.
Considering the 21st
century skills that students have to acquire, list down the characteristics you possess in
achieving the 21st
century skills. In the next column, write the skills you need to develop in achieving the 21st
century skills. Having achieved these skills, what do you wish to contribute to your community and even to the
world upon finishing your degree to make the economy/ education productive, stronger and better?
What Characteristics do I
possess in achieving the 21st
century skills?
What 21st
century
skills I need to
develop?
How will I acquire the
21st
century skills I need
to develop?
What I wish to contribute in making my
community and the world productive,
stronger and better in terms of economy
and education?
The characteristics do I posses in
achieving the 21st
Century skills
are:
E Creativity and
Innovation
E Communication and
Collaboration
E Research and
information fluency
E Critical thinking,
problem solving and
decision making
E Digital Citizenship
E Technology operations
and concepts
The skills I need to
develop are my
communication
skills and my
adaptation to
modern technologies
to use for learning.
Developing my
communication
skills will help me
further my learning
abilities. Also
developing my skills
in using modern
technology will help
me learn more in
this modern world.
I will acquire the skills
that I need to develop by
studying and practicing
these skills through
experience and listening
to people who are good in
these two skills. Also it is
very important that I must
be open to absorb
knowledge and
information on how I will
develop these skills/
The easiest way that I could think of to
contribute to our world is the spread of
information about responsible use of modern
technology we are experiencing today like
the internet. I will give importance to the
educational use of technology to make
learning more easy and efficient for the
future generations.

Teaching and Learning: Then and Now
This activity will allow the students to differentiate teaching and learning in the early generations and learning in
the 21st
century.
This activity will be done with a partner. There will be two sets of interview to be done – 1) Interview your
teacher/parent/relative that experienced learning in the early generations; and 2) interview your
classmate/friend/relative who belongs to a younger generation. Ask how was teaching and learning like during
their time in terms of teaching method, materials, technologies, assessments, and activities done in class. Share
them by writing the details below.

Teaching and Learning
Environment
We use books, magazines,
newspapers and our surroundings
in learning.
We use not just books but also the computer and the internet. Our leaning
environment is pure collaboration with teacher and student.
Teaching Method It was more of pen and paper tests The methods used nowadays are through our performances and actions not
just what we write on paper.
Instructional Materials and
Technology Used
We use books that are given to us
by our teacher and do our research
in the library.
Today we don’t just use books and other articles we have the internet,
computers, laptops for learning and teaching. It is not just for games and
entertainment but for learning as well.
How was learning
Achieved
Listen to your teacher and read
books and if you can’t find the
information you have to go to a
library.
Nowadays information can be easily achieved by just a click of a button. So
learning is achieved through the acquisition of information through the
internet. Learning is more about performance and experiencing it yourself.
Assessments (Traditional Assessment) we refers
to the use of pencil and paper
objective test
Authentic Assessment) we refers to the use of assessment methods that
stimulate true-to-life situations
Class Activities I remember the only way of our
class activities is having quizzes
and written examination
We perform for example; role play
Others
just what we write on paper.
