Facing the future of technology and learning howard college nov 2021Maria H. Andersen
In the last decade, innovations like adaptive learning, smartphones, learning analytics, OER, and MOOCs have been chipping away at the corners of traditional education – causing us to teach using more technology. The pandemic accelerated technology adoption, but we still haven’t faced the real crisis in curriculum. The next wave of disruption to higher ed will not come from more technology to incorporate into teaching, but will be caused by the existence of advanced technology in the workforce. The existence of technology like AI will force us to regularly alter the curriculum we teach to keep it relevant to the world around us. This talk provides guidance for changing how we design and assess programs, courses, and modalities of delivery in order to stay relevant as educational institutions.
Software engineering specifically is about designing, writing, testing, implementing and maintaining software. In 2017 and beyond, it is about much more. Software doesn’t affect any one group of people; rather, software plays a massive role in our lives from the moment we wake up, travel to work, school or wherever we spend significant time during our lives. This talk delivered in November 2017 to high school students in Australia, aims to introduce teenagers to the wide range of opportunities in software engineering and information technology-related majors at university and careers upon graduation. #STEM #sofwareengineering #robotics #AI #GirlsCanCode
Our students will face unprecedented global challenges, competition and change. A 21st century education must must these challenges and opportunities. Gregory Washington outlines strategies for success for K-12 educators.
i-VRenewal:A Cloud based System for VISA Renewal:A Case Study of IIUMThouhedul Islam
Abstract— Getting visa or its renewal is one of the important elements for International students studying abroad. Each and every year students need to renew their visa, to extend their studentship in order to stay in a particular country. In Malaysia, in order to process visa renewal faster, Education Malaysia Global System (EMGS) was introduced by Malaysian Government. Since the implementation of EMGS in April 2015 at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), however renewal process has become complex and lengthy. As a result, many international students faced difficulties in visa application which cost lot of money, time and resources. This paper evaluates the current system of student visa application at IIUM and proposes an intelligent cloud-based system for visa renewal that is more efficient.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
