This document reports on a user study that examined how task and document genre influence perceptions of document usefulness. 25 participants assessed the usefulness of 160 documents from the Canadian government website on 5 different tasks. Usefulness scores varied significantly by task and genre. Documents like news articles were seen as less useful than guides or homepages. While genre influenced perceptions for tasks like deciding or learning, it did not for more simple or complex tasks. The study also found that identifying genres was challenging for participants. In summary, the document explores how task and genre impact judgments of a document's usefulness.
Interwrite pad with clickers
Mr. McGuckins teaches social studies to 153 students at Rockdale County High School, where 65% are African American and 25% are white. He uses an Interwrite Pad and clickers to administer standards-aligned assessments, displaying questions and allowing students to select answers using clickers that record responses. This allows near-instant feedback on performance versus state statistics, increasing student attentiveness and study. However, the clickers run on batteries that need frequent replacement, sometimes interrupting lessons, and rechargeable clickers would address this issue.

Blended inquiry learning, where students for example use online labs to perform experiments, is considered a promising approach to increase the skills and interest of students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics domains. For teachers to provide adequate guidance to their students, it is critical that they are aware of the progress and difficulties encountered by each student. This can be accomplished through visual learning analytics, namely by tracking student interaction, data analysis and adequate visualisations. To address this awareness issue, we present in this paper a set of contextual learning analytics apps which provide the teacher with learning-specific information. This paper presents a requirement analysis from a summer school with 32 teachers, the design and implementation of three contextual learning analytics apps, the main outcomes from a case study as well as an outlook on future research avenues.

1) The document analyzes data from the Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) to explore how skills proficiency affects employment outcomes and how skills are used in the workplace across 24 countries.
2) It finds that higher skills proficiency is positively associated with labor force participation, employment rates, and higher wages. However, differences in skills levels between employed and unemployed individuals are small, indicating unrealized potential.
3) Skills use varies by occupation, education, gender, and firm size, among other factors. Mismatch between skills proficiency and use can lead to wage penalties. Many jobs still require only basic skills.
4) Overlap between qualifications mismatch and skills mismatch is limited. Overqualified workers
IT Intern-ship Presentation
The document is a presentation on the penetration of information technology in schools. It includes sections on the industry and company overview, problem statement, role of IT, literature review, objectives, research methodology, data analysis, findings, suggestions, and conclusion. The research methodology section describes a survey of 50 schools using non-probability sampling to understand how IT has penetrated different areas like administration, education, and communication. The data analysis finds that around 48% of schools use software currently, with room for growth in areas like vehicle tracking systems. In conclusion, IT is becoming more prevalent in schools and can help make processes more efficient if utilized properly.

I attended the Mzinga webinar, Embracing Social Learning Across the Enterprise last week. I got some good notes, and wanted to add some visuals to illustrate the concepts, so ended up with this PowerPoint:
Due to our firewall (I think) I was not able to log in to the actual webinar, but was able to listen on the phone. They say they will be making the webinar slides available online soon, so I'll link to them when they do. I'm curious to see how much I missed.
One other thing they utilized in the webinar was participant chat during the presentation. (An example of the Applied Model: Social media surrounding the learning object) I hear it was pretty active and useful. At least I did manage to find some of the participants - and the presenter - on Twitter.

Managing Large-scale Multimedia Development Projects
Keynote presentation at IEEE International Conference on Multimedia in Engineering Education 1998, Hong Kong. This paper presents generally applicable techniques drawn from the experience of managing the UK's Teaching and Learning Technology Programme (TLTP) Economics Consortium project to develop WinEcon - a computer based package covering an entire first year introductory economics degree course. The WinEcon project has been a highly successful, large scale multimedia project. It has received multiple international awards, is site licensed by over 80% of UK universities and over 200 organisations world wide. However, what really happens when you set out to develop the world's largest computer based training package for economics with a team of 35 content experts and 17 programmers distributed across eight geographically separate sites is a far cry from the typical case study found in a 'software project management' textbook. There are inherent characteristics of multimedia software which make its development difficult. Consequently any multimedia project carries a high risk of failing to deliver on time, quality or budget and the nature of large scale development projects only serves to amplify the risk to such a degree that many such projects fail to deliver satisfactorily in any of these three areas. These management challenges encountered by the WinEcon project are independent of subject matter and must be addressed when managing any large scale multimedia development.

Here are some potential customer groups that could be suffering from the problem of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's:
- Family caregivers (spouses, adult children, other relatives) of those with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. They are directly responsible for care but may feel overwhelmed.
- Assisted living/nursing home facilities. They house and care for those with Alzheimer's but have limited resources and staff. Ensuring safety and quality of life is challenging.
- Geriatric care managers. They help coordinate care plans but need better tools and information to manage complex needs over time.
- Alzheimer's associations. They provide education and support services to caregivers but have limited reach. Better tools could help

One of my favourite sayings is "Products don't fix problems, people fix problems with products". Might sound like it makes sense, but very few companies are applying this logic. With exponential advancement in technology, we're experiencing unprecedented breakthroughs in our systems, but at the same time our employees are becoming slower and more frustrated while using this technology.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
