Teaser Trailer Analysis: Legend

Genre In terms of genre, you are quickly able to see that there is some
violence involved, which leads to a quick assumption of action and
adventure, although I believe this also may include the sub-genre of
crime. As we are shown a scene of one of the main characters in
what seemed to be a jail. Including shots of guns and weapons.
Narrative
Some conventions of a teaser trailer include the fact that the majority
of the time, we are shown a lot of the narrative as a way of drawing in
the interest of your audience. And I believe this is a method that the
director of this film has used. From what I see in this short clip, I am
aleto build a small understanding that there are two protagonist's who
are twin brothers – both played by Tom Hardy – who are very deep in
crime and we hear a quote which says “me and my brother are going to
run London”. This narrative is based on the true story of the Kray twins
who were English gangsters, the foremost perpetrators of organised
crime in the East End of London during the 1950s and 1960s.
Unique Selling Point
The unique selling point of this trailer would have to be that the two
protagonists are played by the same actor – Tom Hardy. As you do not see
this done very often in films.

Target Audience The target audience could differ with this film as their genre attracts that of
16-25 year olds. However, because the film is based on the 1960’s, all of the
people that lived that generation may also be intrigued by this, so their
target audience may also include 40+. In terms of gender, stereotypically it
would be more males that would be intereseted in this film due to the levels
of action, however, looking at recent research and today’s society, female’s
will be just as ;likely to enjoy this film.
Music The music used in this short teaser trailer seems to be rather old fashioned,
music you would hear in the 1960’s, which actually suits the time at which
this film is set. I believe they have done this so that it allows the audience to
have a state of mind about the era they were in. The rhythm also gets a lot
faster as the trailer goes on and as the action increases.
Shot types/
Camera angles
The majority of shots in this trailer consist of close-up’s of the characters
faces, whether it be our protagonist’s Ronnie and Reggie, or Francise
(Reggie’s girlfriend). This allows the audience to view their facial expressions
easier allowing the audience to feel more connected to their emotions. The
trailer opens with an establishing shot of London, which allows the audience
to build an understanding of where this is being set and a feel of the society
they are living in. We are also shown various mid-shots of our protagonist’s
which allows the audience to see their costumes and what they are wearing.
As in every shot they are wearing suits we are able to build a knowledge on
their level of class and wealth.
Feature Comments
Pace As the trailer begins, everything is rather slow – the music,
the shots, the cuts – which would usually connote tension.
However, after around 30 seconds into the trailer we are
able to notice the pace getting faster and action increasing.
This creates excitement for the audience as it feels as
though it is leading to something much bigger.
Dialogue The dialogue of a teaser trailer can be extremely
important, as sometimes it can be the only information
you are given. However, in this case the only dialogue we
hear is that of one of our protagonists saying “me and my
brother, we’re going to rule London.”
Voiceover There is no voiceover to be heard in this trailer, it is simply
just one quote made by our protagonist. As it is the only
quote we hear it makes it stand out much more.

Special Effects
Credits and
intertitles
Some special effects may involve some explosions, however;
this may be the only time they are used.
Intertitles are used frequently throughout this trailer. They
are used to express information to the audience, including;
the release date, the fact that it is a true story, the actors
name etc. They have placed these in-between shots to try
and keep the audience updated as they go along.
