The document analyzes the trailer for a James Bond film sequel. It summarizes that the target audience is 18-40 year old males and action/adventure fans, especially those who grew up liking previous Bond films. Through traditional Bond iconography, an absence of voiceover, fast pacing, and revealing that Bond is dead at the start, the trailer constructs a narrative that the film will be a complex, exciting action adventure typical of the Bond franchise. As a well-known franchise, the trailer does not need to promote the director or actors.
2. The film's target audience would certainly attract 18-40
year old males and anyone who is interested in the genre of
action/adventure. As this film is a sequel to many other
bond films, the audience who would watch this would likely
have grown up liking the other films.
3. The mise en scene constructs the narrative of the film
in the trailer by featuring traditional iconography
related to bond films, for example guns, smart suits,
cars and women already tell the audience what the film
will portray. Furthermore no voiceover can be heard
implying the convention that action films are self-
explanatory and don't need assistance in telling the
story.
4. The music in the trailer punctuates the narrative in the sense
there was a drone at the start of the trailer where the
audience were told bond was dead. Conversely, this is in
stark contrast to the rest of the trailer in that amplified
crescendos can be heard exciting the audience. As well as
the music score, the famous theme tune of bond signals a
familiar sound to the audience connoting that the audience
will know what they're in for.
5. The trailer is edited dramatically in that it consists of fast
paced action sequences. This shows that the narrative
therefore will consist of quick transitions and limited slow
cuts to emphasise character study. This also informs the
audience of the genre of the film and what they can
expect. It also attracts action film lovers and people who
enjoy adventure as a way of escapism from reality.
6. The exposition of the trailer revealed to us that the
protagonist James Bond is dead. This immediately informs
the audience that the trailer is in disequilibrium right from the
beginning. This gives the audience the impression that the
narrative will be complex and will keep them on their toes
which many people expect to feel when watching a film
7. Finally although the film does not have a unique selling
point, it is a well known franchise and therefore does not
need it. The trailer does not tell the audience the actors
names or the directors names as the bond name is bigger
than the director and actors themselves.
