A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
1. Film trailer – analysis
Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice
Purpose and content
The product was made to advertise/promote the new Batman vs Superman: Dawn of
Justice film. This is so when it comes out people will buy tickets to watch the new film
and also to make sure that people are aware of the film. The trailer is effective in doing
this as it uses a variety of mise en scene techniques to make the video look dramatic
and exciting and in overall appealing to people. with exception of mise en scene the
trailer uses fast/slow cut editing, special effects/sound effects and transitions. Taking in
consideration that these are scenes from the movie. So most of what the trailer does is
just making a montage of the film and making the trailer look eye-catchy and
remarkable. But to talk about what we see in the trailer the trailer does well to picture
certain locations/settings and lightings. Such as when we see superman he's mostly in a
bright setting as he mostly saves people during the day in metropolis or somewhere
else and when we see batman he's usually in a dark setting as he mostly fights crime
during the nights in Gotham where most crime occur in the city or somewhere else. so
the use of location/setting and lighting is effective as we can tell what type of
superheroes these superheroes are. Batman a vigilante that likes to fight in the nights of
Gotham as he's character is a dark and more menacing character and batman as a
character mostly lurks in the shadows which is shown in the trailer as you can see
strong shadows of batman whenever he appears and superman in the day as he wants
to stand out and be bright and not lurk in the shadows giving superman a more brighter
character. the use of a variety of camera shots are shown in the trailer from wide shots,
close ups, mid shots, cutaways etc. moreover, the use of transitions are used in this
trailer. One in particular the fade to black to show a variety of stories/events that occurs
in this trailer for the advertisement of the film. Also the use of effects are shown in the
trailer. one scene shows superman flying and laser beams coming out from his eyes.
In addition, the treatment of the video is authorative. the video has voice overs from
characters within the trailer and we can understand what the characters are saying
clearly. Also they're are dialogue (scripted) from the likes of famous actors such as
Henry Cavil , Ben Affleck , Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishbourne, Diane Lane, Amy
Adams and Jeremy Irons.

2. The company of this film is warner brothers/Dc comics (warner) and its imprints vertigo
comics. with the debut of the film these companies will hope to make profit from this
Film. in order to do that a trailer is held to make people aware of this film and other
companies to. this is shown in the trailer as we see the warner brothers/dc
comics/vertigo comics logo at the beginning of the trailer.
The meaning of the trailer is to promote the new Batman vs Superman film. beside this
its also used to tell the story of the film as audiences can get a sense of what its about.
with this to put the context of the film short: Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero
(Superman/Henry Cavil) left unchecked, Gotham City's own formidable, forceful
vigilante (Batman/Bruce Wayne) takes on Metropolis' most revered, modern-day savior,
while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and
Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in
greater danger than it's ever known before .Beside this, the trailer/movie also conveys a
variety of themes which is also important in telling the story of the film. Most of the
themes in this trailer promoting the Film are: Power, as From Batman and the world
many see Superman as a God as he posses god-like powers and because of this many
worship Superman and others Fear him as they believe he's a threat to the human race,
one of those people is Batman. Another theme is Fear. Fear is shown as many fear
Superman and his Godly powers and fear that he's the destruction to man-kind and also
that with his power that he's a threat and don't feel that they can fully trust him.in
addition to that trust can be another theme linked to that. Idolization, many people
idolize superman and believe he is the prodigy of the world. Beside Superman other
idols are shown such as Batman/Bruce Wayne , Wonder woman , Lex Luthor and some
others. Responsibility, most of the heroes have a feeling that they're are responsible of
things that happens in the world. In this case both superheroes feel that they have the
responsibility to protect the world.
The purpose of the trailer is to entertain. the trailer wants people to take interest into the
film and want the anticipation of the people so when the film is released, people will go
to cinemas to watch it. in order to do that they do allot of mise en scene techniques and
slow/fast cut editing beside special/sound effects and transitions in the trailer.
