Rough Cut Edit Audience
Feedback

1. Is it clear that it is an opening sequence and the
opening sequence conventions are met? Justify
your answer.
• “Yes
- Ellipses
- Titles”
• “Yes – Titles, establishing shots, characters”
• “Yes, but would be unclear if titles weren’t there”
What I have learnt from this feedback is that although we may be following some
of the conventions of an opening sequence, we still need to be able to make it
clearer for our audience to establish whether they are watching an opening
sequence or trailer. I believe we can do this by changing our sound and adding
some more titles in the correct order.
2. What do you understand about the film from the
opening sequence (i.e. characters, story, genre, etc.)?
• “ - Genre: tension, crime
- Main character is a spy
- Suspense”
• “ Genre: spy thriller, characters background”
• “Something’s been stolen”
What I have learnt from this piece of feedback is that the audience have been
able to understand some of the storyline, but not everything, which is what we
were aiming for as we felt that by holding back on a lot of the storyline makes it
more intriguing for the viewers and hopefully make them want to watch the
movie and find out what happened. However, we could build on making sure it is
clearer for the audience to understand the roles of the characters.

4. What, in your view, are the sequence’s main
strengths? Justify your comments.
• “Continuity, parallel editing, music”
• “Editing font, ident – very good”
• “Build up”
What I have learnt from this piece of feedback is that the audience feel that
the majority of our opening sequence is very good, however there are also
things to change. They seemed to have liked the editing more than the
music so I feel that the sound is something we can definitely improve on.
5. How do you think the sequence could be improved?
• “Clearer storyline”
• “Music’s too loud, felt a bit like a trailer, more titles”
• “Anti-climax”
What I have learnt from this piece of feedback is that we definitely need to take
some time on improving our sound, which was something we were sure on
anyway. However, we may also need to spend some time on how we have
portrayed our storyline and work on how we can make this clearer for the
audience. Hopefully we will be able to complete all of this by the deadline to
ensure our opening sequence is completed and we receive the highest grade
possible.
