Teaching Philosophy
Tim Jauch
I believe that each student has an infinite amount of potential and will approximate the
expectations set through the curriculum, program and instructor. I see my role as an educator
very much as a facilitator of a safe learning environment where students from diverse
backgrounds, belief systems, socioeconomic status, genders, race color and personality can feel
comfortable, respected and supported. The Pygmalion effect and self-fulfilling prophecy are
realities that can be manifested with the appropriate educational model and application.
My educational and experiential background is rooted in the human potential movement with
underpinnings in the belief that all people have the need, the desire and the capability to continue
to develop mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically. In the words of famous author of
The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People stated, we all have inherent needs to:
“Live, Love, Learn and leave a Legacy. These innate drives tap the fire within.” Stephen Covey
I aspire to celebrate differences in hope of learning from others whose worldview is unique to
mine. I personally want to continue to learn, have fun and grow and help others do the same with
a big smile on my face! My enthusiasm and excitement relative to continuous learning and
development serve as inspiration for those who are in the learning mode and motivation for all.
Pursuit of excellence in all our endeavors will be the aspiration and ultimate outcome desired for
the students. Character development will transcend the course work and classes interwoven into
a practical application and ultimately a byproduct of the educational environment. I always seek
to be a model not a critic, a light not a judge when given the sacred responsibility of educating
the students of all ages.
I attempt to create a learning environment where transformation and self-actualization can be
more than textbook terms. A favorite quote from T.S. Eliot summarizes my view on this
approach to growth and development:
“To never cease from exploring and at the end of our exploration will be to arrive where we
began and know the place for the first time.”
I view education and learning as a life long process as a wise lady once told me…. “If you are
not learning you are not growing, if you are not growing you are dying.” Education to me is an
ongoing process of learning, committing and doing. My experiential approach to the classroom
engages all comers in this lifelong pursuit of personal and professional growth and development.
Education is not a filling of a bucket but a lighting of a torch. A lighting of a fire that burns
throughout our life!
