The purpose of this course is to build participant’s professional knowledge so that as educators can be more effectively differentiate instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) in diverse K-12 settings. Instructional  methods will address listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with a primary focus on English language development. This includes increasing participant awareness of ELL differences in home experiences, background knowledge, skills, and linguistic development. The role of culture and heritage languages will also be considered. Participants will learn about teaching strategies and learning activities appropriate for various disciplines across K-12 classrooms and with students of diverse English language proficiency. Participants will learn how to integrate appropriate sheltered English or subject matter strategies for ELLs as well as guidelines for interpreting formal and informal assessments of content knowledge.

Diversity, pluralism, culture, multicultural(ism), ethnicity, race and minority all are terms that are used by different people to mean different things; some of these terms overlap in meaning (culture/ethnicity/race, for example).

Write an essay about the diversity in your classroom.  Be specific with details. Share your essay with others. You can use power point to present your essay.
4 hours Homework Find an article about Diversity. Read I and write a summary (double space).
2 nd  day Find  3 articles about the new ways of teaching English Language Development (listening, writing, reading, speaking). Write a annotated bibliography. Create graphic organizers about the new techniques that you found on the articles
Choose a way of teaching in a diverse classroom.  Develop an outline explain that. Be ready to discuss in class.
Write a final critical essay on diverse setting and about the class.
3 rd  day Create graphic organizers about the new techniques that you found on the articles. Present the new techniques. Write a critical essay on diverse setting and about the class.
4 hours homework Read about Differences in Ways of Knowing and Learning Choose two of those Differences in Ways of Knowing and Learning and write how you can implement it in the classroom. Be ready to discuss and present it in class.
4 th  day Prepare a summary about the article using graphic organizers. (pairs) Present the article.
