QUALITIES OF A GOOD TEACHER.
Teaching may be challenging, surprising, and even exciting. Days
are often filled with unexpected events and are also occasionally
blessed by amazing rewards. These, of course, are what make
teaching worthwhile.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen.
I am Munira Binti Murad. A teacher in a primary school. I am here
to share with you some qualities of a good teacher.
Teachers have the very important responsibility of shaping the lives
of young, impressionable children. With this responsibility comes
great pride and joy. Therefore all teachers should strive for what
can be considered to be a “good teacher.
A good teacher always has objectives. When you start a lesson,
make your students understand clearly what they will learn
today. You should have clear objectives, as such a plan will help
students concentrate and know what they are supposed to do
during this class. You can write something like “do nows” on the
board, or just tell them your plan step by step.
A good teacher is an assertive teacher. Your students can
have problems, bad days, stress, or depressions as well. If you see
that some of your students start to study worse, have no desire to
do all schoolwork you give them, and just want to give up
everything, do not be in a hurry to argue and tell them about how
bad or lazy they become. You can become like a parent to them.
Support your student, ask about what happens to him, push him to
do better. If you see that your student is depressed, maybe it
would be better to meet with him after classes and find out what
exactly is going on.
Make your lesson relevant to their lives. If you want your
students to remember your lessons, just try to connect the
information you provide with some moments of your students' life.
You can use some of them as an example, describing this or that
situation: it would be more interesting for them to visit such lessons,
but not those boring ones where you try to explain them the
importance of differential equations for our science. Just try to
come up with an example, how these differential equations can
help them in the future.
Great teachers form strong relationships with their students
and show that they care about them as people. Great teachers
are warm, accessible, and caring. Teachers with these qualities
are known to stay after school and make themselves available to
students and parents who need them. They are involved in school-
wide committees and activities, and they demonstrate a
commitment to the school.
Be their friend, but don't go too far. Students just don't like
when their teacher starts behaving like a student himself. Stay
professional, help students with schoolwork, listen to them, talk
about their lives, but remember who you are. Even if you are a
young specialist, and you are almost of the same age with your
students, there is no need to use all those slang words (even if you
use them in your everyday life).Your students will find it rude and
unprofessional. As far as you understand, this is not the best
method to get a good reputation. Your students just will not take
you seriously.
In conclusion teaching is hard work and some teachers
never grow to be anything better than mediocre. They do the
bare minimum required and very little more. The great teachers,
however, work tirelessly to create a challenging, nurturing
environment for their students. Great teaching seems to have less
to do with our knowledge and skills than with our attitude toward
our students, our subject, and our work .
Teacher plays an important role in education of every
student. There are many opinions about what are the qualities of
a good teacher. Somebody think that it is knowledge of the
subject , but there are those who claim that charisma is more
important.
In my view, personal qualities of the teacher is importantly than
education. To begin with, teacher must to know how to draw
students’ attention, and charismatic teacher can do it. Also, good
teacher should be able to tell interesting. You know, it is difficult to
assimilate information, if the teacher says without enthusiasm,
boring monotone voice. No doubt that nowadays teacher is not
only a conductor of knowledge but a person who is responsible
for the future of his or her students. That is why teacher must be
reliable and responsible person. Finally, good teacher is that
teacher, who is able to find an individual approach to each
student – it is very important try to find abilities in every child.
In contrast, there are those, who claim that the best teacher is
someone who is very knowledgeable about the subject. They say
that person with great education surely can be great teacher.
They can’t be justified!
To sum up, I strongly believe that goal of the teacher - to find a
common language with the students and instill them a love of
knowledge good. That is why I think that personal qualities is more
important for teacher then his knowledge.
What makes a good teacher? Like all good recipes, the
ingredients for a teacher's success in the classroom are simple,
easy to follow, and allow for personal interpretation to enhance
the result. Primarily, a teacher's goal is to motivate her students to
reach beyond their grasp. Many children are keenly aware of their
weaknesses and special education students are particularly
sensitive to being "different". A good teacher helps the child
realize her strengths and encourages and challenges the student
to learn through those strengths. It is in the day to day process of
reaching this goal that the ingredients for making a good teacher
come into play.
The best teachers are the ones who teach to the whole child.
Their vision of education is not limited to the tangibles of
academic achievement but encompasses daily doses of
compassion, flexibility, communication, humor, imagination, and
the willingness to be open minded. Most importantly, a good
teacher is someone who uses both his head and her heart in
equal measure throughout the school day. Compassion is in
understanding that a student may be frustrated, angry or just
unable to focus on the academics at hand. A little extra attention,
a hug, a query as to how he is feeling today or the simple
expression that the teacher values that student and was glad he
was there today is all it takes to make a potentially negative
situation into a positive, personal learning experience for the child.
Bad days happen to everyone. Deal with the misbehavior, and
move on, but be fair and consistent in your discipline.
Good teachers don't speak negatively about their students to
anyone. Flexibility allows the learning environment to be fluid and
creative. Be upbeat and positive and ready to adapt to students
moods and needs. Maybe the lesson plan can be more
effectively learned if the students stand and move about, play a
game with the information or talk about something else that is
important to them at that moment. Communicate with the
student and his parents on a regular basis. The more open and
direct the dialogue is among all the parties, the more involved
parents and children become in the educational process.
A good teacher is not threatened by parent advocacy.
Remember no one knows the child as well as her parents and they
can become wonderful allies in developing a strong 24/7
educational plan for the child. Listen as well as talk. Humor. Learn
to laugh at yourself, smile and be free to admit mistakes. This
lesson is perhaps the most difficult for LD students to learn. LD is not
funny, but learning to reduce their level of frustration, and be
more accepting of mistakes, allows the students to relax and be
more receptive to trying new things. Imagination is all about
thinking outside the box. Good teachers are always willing to try
new approaches for delivering the information. The
unconventional might just be the ticket for helping the LD student
pay attention or process the information. The end certainly justifies
the means in this case. Along with this is the need to be open
minded and receptive to new methodology, research, and the
acknowledgement that we can all learn new things everyday.
Question the curriculum if it does not benefit your students.
Everything is open to change.
There are many things which make a teacher great and they
all can`t be defined. However i`ve always considered several of
them essential. In my opinion a good teacher is someonewho first
of all creates interest in studying, doesn`t underestimate the
children, has equal expectations of siccess from everyone and last
but not least likes his job.
A good teavher always has a sense of purpose. He chooses very
carefully the teaching programme and adjusts it to the needs of
his students.Children always come first and that`s why the decision
he makes are based on how they will affect them.He shares
experience with other teachers and thus is always learning new
things.
It is very important for a teacher to be a good communicator. He
doesn`t just stand in front of the class and lecture but tries to
establish a dialogue and tofind the best group activities in which
every child to be involved.Discussion,peer-to-peer coaching are
the things which make the process of teaching more interesting
and challenging so that all students attend classes and
participate actively.
The good teacher works with all students.A friend of mine told me
how her maths teacher tolerates only students who are good at
mathematics or those who have special interest in the
subject.Towards the rest of the class my friend says she`s very
exacting. She gives homeworks and tests without bothering to ask
about difficulties. She doesn`t try to explain it and as a result many
students keep getting bad marks.
I firmly believe teachers shouldn`t forget that all students no
matter of their colour, race or gender have equal ability to
study.Different students have different learning systems. Some can
learn things easily while others need to spend more time over a
given task. That`s why it is advisable for a teacher to know his
students individually so that he can remember what kind of
problems they have and find the right way to help them.
There`s no doubt that teachers have immense influence on their
students. That`s why it is their responsibility to find the best
approach of teaching and make classes more amusing and
interesting

I firmly believe teachers shouldn`t forget that all students no matter of their colour, race or gender have equal ability to study.Different students have different learning systems. Some can learn things easily while others need to spend more time over a given task. That`s why it is advisable for a teacher to know his students individually so that he can remember what kind of problems they have and find the right way to help them. There`s no doubt that teachers have immense influence on their students. That`s why it is their responsibility to find the best approach of teaching and make classes more amusing and interesting
