Title: Process of Producing an Attractive Sketch
In this era of globalization, electrical devices had become our best friends.
They bring lots of advantages to us and play an important role in our daily life. For
example, we spend plenty of time in front of a computer surfing internet, playing
games and drawing. Now, we are the generation that needs a ‘mouse’ to accomplish
our tasks. In the middle of this digital era, there are many web designers using
computer to sketch and draw. But, there are some ‘non-digital’ designers using
common tools such as pens, pencils and papers to sketch. Sometimes, their
sketches are better and more attractive than the web designers’ sketches. Now, I will
start to introduce and explain the process of sketching. Sketching is the process of
drawing a rough outline of a final piece of art. Sketching can be used in preparation
of small or huge piece of art. Sketching can also be used for fun during leisure time
in order to kill your time. Before you start sketching, you should learn the proper
techniques of sketching so that you can enjoy it.
First and foremost, you must get the right materials. It is difficult to sketch
when using poor quality materials. For example, if you use low quality stationary, the
sketches produced will be low quality and less attractive. Hence, it is essential to get
proper sketching materials. You can easily find them at the stationary shops and buy
them with a reasonable price. The examples of sketching materials are pencils,
rubbers and fine art papers. There are various types of pencils such as H, 2H, HB, B
and 2B pencils. H pencils can be used for sketching thin, straight and non-blendable
lines while B pencils can be used for making smudged and blurry lines and for
shading your sketch. Besides, by using fine art paper with a bit of texture, you can
save your time and increase the appearance of your sketching. Regular printer paper
can also be used but it is thin and does not hold the pencil well.
Secondly, you should choose your subject. For beginners, the easiest way is
to sketch from a live model or an image, rather than by using your imagination to
create an image to draw. You should find an image of something you like, or look for
an object or person around you to draw. Then, take few minutes to observe and
study the subject before you begin. There are some things you need to pay attention.
You should find the source of light. By locating the light source, you can determine
which part of your sketching is the lightest or darkest. Moreover, you should look for
any movement of the subject. You should capture the best and most awesome
movement of the subject and remember it. You should also pay attention to the
primary shapes of the subject. All objects are made up of a combination of the basic
shapes such as square, circle, triangle, rectangle and the list goes on and you
should sketch them first. You may try different versions of the same object to
brainstorm and later decide which you like most.
Furthermore, you can practise some hand movements before you start
sketching. For instance, you can draw circles on horizontal lines for few minutes to
warm up your hand. Next, you can start with your H pencil. Move your hand quickly
using minimal pressure and sketch over the paper without stopping. You should get
comfortable with the paper you are working with. You can consider this as the
foundation of your sketch. You should not draw too heavily. This is because a sketch
is the base of an image. Hence, you should use a light hand and sketch quickly. By
doing this, it is easier to test out various ways of drawing a particular object and will
allow you to erase mistakes easier. For the next stage, when you achieve the perfect
shape of the object, you can use the darker 6B pencil. You can keep adding details,
inner shapes and make sure they are to scale. For example, when drawing a boy,
you must make sure that it is in an appropriate size. After you have finished using
this pencil, you will notice some smudges on the page because the lead on this
pencil is softer than previous one. You can remove them by using the eraser. When
you are erasing, make sure that you do not rip off the layer of the page.
In a nutshell, you can add further details and perfect your lines until you are
satisfied. This is the process of producing an attractive sketch. An attractive sketch
can be produced if you put in lots of passion, responsibility and love. You can make
an outstanding sketch by applying different techniques and effects on it. As it is said
‘there is always something to learn’. Go ahead and see them through and get started
on your own sketch!
