2. Steps involved in producing an attractive sketch
Sketch usually refers to a quick, informal drawing, and done from our life.
Although it is simple, but a sketch can captures the essentials of a subject. Sketches
are often part of the preparation for a more developed drawing. The steps required to
produce an attractive sketch are material needed, choosing a subject, and also
sketch. Everyone can sketch easily if we know the steps of sketching.
Firstly, we have to ready our material such as sketchbook, different type of
pencil, eraser and others before drawing a sketch. To start drawing an attractive
sketch we must select the right type and also suitable size of sketchbook. There are
many type of sketchbook selling on market nowadays. Sketchbook paper can be
divided into two surfaces which is rougher surfaces and smoother surfaces. Rougher
surfaces are used to draw lower detail works, it is suitable for using charcoal, crayon
and watercolour to draw on it. However smoother surfaces are more suitable for
more detail works. People usually use pencil, coloured pencil, and ink pens to sketch
on it. Therefore, to sketch a building with a lots of details, it is better to choose a
smooth paper than a rough paper.
After have an idea to choose what type of paper, the drawing instrument is the
next step. There are different type of pencil for sketching like pencils, mechanical
pencils, and ink pens. For pencil it is graded by H and also B, the range of it is from
9H to 9B (from hard to soft). H is usually for the starting part of sketching and B is
for the last part of sketching. 2H to 8B is usually chosen for sketching because it is
most suitable in drawing sketch. Mechanical pencils are used to provide lines of
constant thickness without sharpening in technical drawing and writing. So, having a
mechanical pencils is easier for the process of drawing a sketch because it doesn’t
need to sharpen. After chosen the right pen or pencils, we must choose the best
viewpoint to sketch the building. Make sure that we observe from different side of
angle and view, so that we can draw an attractive sketch.
Lastly, the most important step which is to start drawing a sketch. Make sure
that do not be discouraged when sketching because most of them stop their
sketching half way just because it is hard or they are lazy. It is important to use our
eyes to observe different side of the building carefully before the beginning of the
sketch so that we can make a perfect and accurate sketch without sketching the
wrong thing. After that, we should draw out the outline of the building we are
sketching so that we can easy to move onward. When finish the outline of building
then move on to draw the outer covering of a building. But make sure that the outline
of building must be drew perfectly and accurately. At the final part we can add in the
shadow of the building to make our sketch more attractive and nicer.
Sketch is always hard if you never try to do it. In my opinion, before I try to
sketch my thought of sketching, I feel that it is hard and I am not going to try it. The
first time of my sketching was sketch the site chosen for my Element of Build and
Environment’s assignment, before I start to sketch my mind was blank and I not sure
how to start it. But after I try to start and sketch, the process of my sketching was
smooth and easy. Therefore, don’t say it is hard to do sketching if you haven’t try it,
just try it and you will know.
