The document summarizes the key events and figures of the Philippine reformist movement in the late 19th century known as the Propaganda Movement. It discusses the execution of priests known as the Gomburza that helped spark calls for reform, the rise of the ilustrado class who were educated and exposed to liberal ideas abroad, and the founding of cultural organizations like La Solidaridad newspaper and the Liga Filipina society to advocate for reforms through peaceful and intellectual means. Central figures of the movement discussed include Graciano Lopez Jaena, Marcelo H. del Pilar, and Jose Rizal who wrote novels highlighting injustices under Spanish colonial rule. However, the movement ultimately failed to achieve its goals of greater autonomy
Ang Unang Triumvirate (Pagbagsak ng Republika)Rayhanah
Mula 60-53 BC, ang unang triumvirate, o tatlong taong may pantay pantay na kapangyarihan, ay binubuo nina Julius Ceasar, Gnaeus Pompey, at Marcus Crassus.
15. ● “Sobre La Indolencia de los Filipino”
● inilabas sa La Solidaridad
● hinimay ni Rizal ang mga paratang
ukol sa katamaran ng mga Pilipino
● indolencia: little love of work
16. Maaring Rason: Klimang Tropical
“We find in them the tendency to be indolent very natural
and we have to admit it and bless it because we cannot alter
natural laws, and because without it the race would have
disappeared. Man is not brute, he is not a machine...”
“The hot climate requires quiet and rest for the individual, just
as cold incites to work and to action.”
18. ( 1 )
PAKIKIPAGKALAKALAN
“Before the arrival of the Europeans, the
Malayan Filipinos carried on an active
trade, not only among themselves but also
with all the neighboring countries.”
19. ( 2 )
PAGSASAKA
“All live off their husbandry, adds Morga,
their farms, fisheries, and trade, sailing
from island to island and going by land
from one province to another.”
20. ( 3 )
PAGGAWA NG MGA BANGKA
“At that time, that sea where float the
islands like a set of emeralds on a paten of
bright glass, that sea was everywhere
traversed by junks, paraus, barangays,
vintas, vessels swift as shuttles so large that
they could maintain a hundred rowers on
each side; that sea bore everywhere
commerce, industry, agriculture...”
21. ( 4 )
PAGMIMINA
“Further on he speaks of the vessels and
utensils of solid gold that he found in
Butuan where the people worked in mines.
He describes the silk dresses, the daggers
with long gold hilts, the scabbards of
carved wood, the gold sets of teeth, etc.”
22. Tunay na dahilan: Istrukturang Kolonyal
● Pagkamatay ng mga may kasanayan:
Nang sakupin tayo, marami ang
namatay sa mga may kasanayan.
● Encomienda at bandala: Paano
gaganahang magtrabaho kung hindo
mo napakikinabangan ang
pinagtratrabahuhan mo? Pinipili na
lamang ng ibang maging mahirap
kaysa maghirap.
23. Tunay na dahilan: Istrukturang Kolonyal
● Bayaning Juan Tamad: Siya lamang
ang nangahas na hindi magtrabaho
para sa ibang tao.
24. “We must confess that their indolence actually
and positively exists, but instead of regarding it
as the cause of the backwardness and disorder,
we should regard it as the effect of disorder and
backwardness, which fosters the disastrous
predisposition.”
( Rizal )
25. Habitus:
Bahagi na ang katamaran sa habitus o
pinagpipilian ng mga mamamayan sa
sitwasyon.
26. structural - functionism
( Alfred Radcliffe-Brown )
Nakakaapekto sa kilos ng tao ang
istraktura sa kanyang lipunan tulad
ng estado.
solusyon
( Rizal )
Gawing edukado ang mga tao.
27. “Man works for a purpose; remove the purpose
and you reduce him to inaction.”
“Indolence in the Philippines is a chronic
malady, but not a hereditary one. The Filipinos
have not always been what they are, witnesses
hereto are all the historians of the first years
after the discovery of the Islands.”
( Rizal )
28. “We must confess that their indolence actually
and positively exists; but instead of regarding it
as cause of the backwardness and disorder, we
should regard it as the effect of disorder and
backwardness.”
( Rizal )
Library may nakita siyang isang libro...
ngunit nasa wikang Espanyol.
31. ● Rason kaysa sa relihiyon; agham
kaysa superstisyon
● Wasakin ang ideya: awtoridad na
mula sa Diyos ng Hari at mga
dugong bughaw
● Pagkapantay-pantay
● Nagsisilbing paradigm shift
ILUSTRACION O ENLIGHTENMENT
32. ● May iisa tayong kalagayan (one
misfortune)
● May sarili at iisang pagkakailanlan
(one identity)
● Ipinakita ito sa kanilang mga
pananaliksik at mga artikulo
(Diyaryo ng Propaganda at ang La
Solaridad)
ISANG NASYON
33. Isinulat ni Antonio de Morga,
lieutenant general of the
Philippines, noong 1609 at
in-annotate naman ni Jose
Rizal noong 1888.
34. ● Unang Philippine historical work sa
perspektibo ng isang Filipino
● Dapat na popondohan ni Antonio
Regidor ngunit hindi tumupad kaya
si Rizal na lang ang naglimbag
● Binigyang introduksyon ni
Ferdinand Blumentritt (na tingin ni
Rizal ay dapat na sumulat ng
kasaysayan ng Pilipinas)
35. Bakit hindi sikat ang Sucesos de Las
Islas Filipinas? Bakit kabilang ito sa
“minor writings” ni Rizal?
1. Nanguna ang Noli at El Fili
2. Mas pinili ng mga iskolar ang
primary sources (Morga imbis na
kay Rizal)
3. Ipinagbawal ito sa bansa dahil sa
censorship
36. 1.
2.
3.
4. Ang iilang kopya ay kinumpiska
6. Nakasulat ito sa Espanyol, kaya kaunti
lang ang nakabasa
37. “Their daily fare is composed of
rice crushed in wooden pillars
and … beef and dish which they
know is best when it has started
to rot and stink.”
( Morga )
“This is another preoccupation of the
Spaniards, who, like any other nation,
treat food to which they are not
accustomed or is unknown to them
with disgust… The fish that Morga
mentions, that cannot be good until it
begins to rot, is bagoong and those who
have eaten it and tasted it know that
it neither is nor should be rotten.”
( Rizal )
38. “...casting artillery pieces for the
city’s garrison by an old native
foundryman from the province of
Pampanga who, together with his
sons, practiced the profession for
many years until their death”
( Morga )
“That is, an indio who already
know how to make cannons even
before the arrival of the Spaniards,
hence the epithet ‘old.’ In this
difficult branch of metallurgy, as
in others, the present-day
Filipinos… are very much behind
the old Indios.”
( Rizal )
39. Pagsusuri sa akda
● “Committed scholarship” ang ginawa ni
Rizal para patunayan ang
pagkakakilanlang Pilipino
● Posibleng exaggerated ang kanyang mga
tala dahil hindi pa napapatunayan ang
kanyang mga pahayag (e.g. pagkakaroon
ng malalaking kanyon)
ilang historyador
● Tinanggap ni Rizal ang kritisismo dahil
isinama niya ito sa introduksyon ng libro
41. “I never assert anything on my own
authority, I cite texts and when I cite
them, I have them before me”
Rizal 1890C 271
42. Dahil sa pagiging historyador ni Jose
Rizal, nakabuo siya ng isang ideya
ng nasyon.
43. “Everywhere can be found the phenomenon of
a greater number of common words among
peoples who live close to each other than
among those which are distantly separated.”
-Rizal
44. TATLUHANG PANANAW SA
KASAYSAYANG PILIPINO
(1) Mga Pilipino na mayroong kalayaan bago
dumating ang mga Español
(2) Pagkaalipin at kadiliman nang masakop tayo
(3) Muli nating makakamit ang kalayaan at
magkakaroon ng kalinawagan kapag napaalis
natin ang mga Español
45. AMBAG NI RIZAL SA
PAGBUO NG BANSA
● Paglantad ng pang-aapi ng mga prayle
● Naging sanhi ng mga rebolusyon
● Pagmulat ng mga Pilipino sa national
consciousness
46. “He may have had a different and limited goal
at the time, a goal that for us is already passe,
something we take for granted. However, for
his time this limited goal was already a big
step in the right direction. This contribution
was in the realm of Filipino nationhood - the
winning of our name as a race, the recognition
of our people as one, and the elevation of the
indio into Filipino”
(Constantino 1969, 16-17)
47. Pais o naciones sa loob ng
España, hindi Nacion-Estado.
El Amor Patrio - “Pag-ibig sa
Tinubuang Lupa” (Diariong
Tagalog ni Marcelo del Pilar,
1882)
Me Tangere.
are, ano kaya ang maguiguing kalagayan?” (WA w.tn.,
104).
TATLUHANG PANANAW
51. “Hinding-hindi ako magsasawang
ipaalala sa inyo na kayo ang pag-asa
ng bayan. Nasabi ko iyan dahil
sigurado akong may angkin kayong
talento at mga kaalaman. Palawakin
niyo ito at gamitin sa ikauunlad at
ikapupugay ng ating Inang Bayan.”
