Tobacco has the major advantages such as high leaf biomass yield and rapid scale-up through easy seed production, when compared to other plant species. In a recent report, the expression level of recombinant proteins in tobacco stems was similar to that of leaves, thus suggesting that the whole tobacco plant biomass can be used for production of recombinant therapeutic proteins, eventually increasing the upstream production cost efficiency.

 For the biotech and drug industry, biopharming offers tremendous economic
and health benefits once the current cycle of product development reaches the
commercialization stage.
 A combination of strong and adaptable regulatory oversight with technological
solutions are required if the twin goals of realizing the full potential of
biopharming and safeguarding the food system.
 Pharmaceutical crops may not require large amounts of acreage. The area
needed will depend on the potential demand for the pharmaceutical products.

6. Future Direction
.
 The challenge of insuring 100% containment will be daunting.
Consequently, one can expect significant spillover effects on food-crop
markets, in the likelihood of contamination.
 Scientists are using tobacco biopharming for curing life threatening diseases
so it has a very bright future and also biopharma is a promising capital to
invest in.
