• Antibiotics have become one of the most
important medical interventions.
• However, there is marked increase in an
antimicrobial resistance.
• The WHO has named antibiotic resistance as
one of the three most important public health
threats of 21st century.

2. Antibiotic resistance
Anti biotic resistance is defined as
micro-organisms that are not inhibited
by usually achievable systemic
concentration of an antimicrobial agent
with normal dosage schedule and/ or
fall in the minimum inhibitory
concentration (MIC) range.
