On 9 and 10 October, the 2023 Landscape Leadership Workshop was held in Nairobi, Kenya, to set the scene for the GLF Nairobi 2023 Hybrid Conference: A New Vision for Earth. Co-designed by the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF), the Youth in Landscapes Initiative (YIL), and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), the workshop brought together 45 brilliant young minds from Africa and around the world selected from over 700 applicants to drive impactful and transformative change.
Together, we brainstormed out of the box to find landscape solutions to the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, social injustices and other major challenges. We held hands while sharing our feelings about the world. We harnessed the power of art to challenge dominant narratives. We will forever cherish the memories we made, and we will continue to nourish these new relationships with care.

Our planet is experiencing significant and accelerated change caused by greenhouse gases emitted by human activities. We are gathering significant scientific data looking to understand and then seek solutions to the issue. The effects of climate are being felt on all continents and are predicted to become more and more intense, with severe consequences for our economies and societies.
To stop climate change from getting worse, the European Commission confirmed we must take urgent climate action so that we can adapt to the changes happening now, and in the future, to limit the damage. The European Commission has established an “Education for Climate” initiative which promotes education for and about climate change as a flagship initiative of the European Education Area. Developing relevant, high-quality teaching in schools will be fundamental for the future.

On 9 and 10 October, the 2023 Landscape Leadership Workshop was held in Nairobi, Kenya, to set the scene for the GLF Nairobi 2023 Hybrid Conference: A New Vision for Earth. Co-designed by the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF), the Youth in Landscapes Initiative (YIL), and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), the workshop brought together 45 brilliant young minds from Africa and around the world selected from over 700 applicants to drive impactful and transformative change.
Together, we brainstormed out of the box to find landscape solutions to the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, social injustices and other major challenges. We held hands while sharing our feelings about the world. We harnessed the power of art to challenge dominant narratives. We will forever cherish the memories we made, and we will continue to nourish these new relationships with care.

“Climate change concerns all of us, and everyone can take action for the climate” (European Commission, 2020). Our planet is experiencing significant and accelerated change caused by greenhouse gases emitted by human activities. We are gathering significant scientific data looking to understand and then seek solutions to the issue. The effects of climate are being felt on all continents and are predicted to become more and more intense, with severe consequences for our economies and societies.
To stop climate change from getting worse, the European Commission confirmed we must take urgent climate action so that we can adapt to the changes happening now, and in the future, to limit the damage. The European Commission has established an “Education for Climate” initiative which promotes education for and about climate change as a flagship initiative of the European Education Area. Developing relevant, high-quality teaching in schools will be fundamental for the future.

In order to help address this, the ONLIFE project aims to develop a methodology which will support the life adaptability of teachers in the online teaching process in School Education so they can have hybrid competences as teachers.

GEOLAND Presentation UN-GGIM
The GEOLAND Project was presented at the United Nations as part of the twelfth session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). The meeting was held from 3 – 5 August 2022.
GEOLAND deals with the concepts, data, tools and technologies concerning the monitoring of landscapes based on the rules of the European Landscape Convention (ELC). As a result the project aims to inform and advise students and their professors concerning the policy implications of undertaking landscape monitoring and assessment. GEOLAND will help students and professors to comprehend the problems that arise from heterogeneous applications of ELC and suggest possible solutions to these issues.
The GEOLAND project also seeks to reinforce European Policy in landscape conservation as well as national and local actions regarding the implementation of the European Landscape Convention.
It will seek to provide essential recommendations for policy makers and maintain a dialogue with relevant stakeholders, open for future development. The methodology employed is eventually expected to constitute a road map for relevant studies not only in Europe but also worldwide.

What is storytelling? • Storytelling is the art of telling stories • Stories can make difficult and abstract subjects easier to understand. • In education and training, storytelling is a tool for preserving memory, writing history, learning, entertaining, organising and also healing (Raimist, 2010). The purpose of storytelling Through storytelling: • Organisations can build identities, construct meaning and make connections with others and the world • Stories help capitalise on the power of narrative, bring logic, and facilitate access to information. • Storytelling is a social transaction that engages people in communicating by listening and sharing • Storytelling creates a sense of belonging and community building LOGO Partner

Storytelling in fundraising •Storytelling is an approach used in promotion, marketing and fundraising •Storytelling helps to share experiences, explain events and artefacts and transfer knowledge •Stories are engaging and easy to remember •The main strengths are in the appeal, variety and accessibility of the narrative LOGO Partner
- 5. Storytelling elements Storytelling usually involves combining: • The setting, • A plot, • Some characters, • The logical unfolding of events, • A climax, • A conclusion • With a message
- 6. Storytelling elements Topic What topics or issues will be addressed? Characters Who are the people/content/issues involved? Which ones have major roles/are most important? Which ones were minor/less significant? Setting Where and when did this take place? Over what period of time? Plot Problem/Goal: What set events in motion? What problem arose, or what were the key players/areas after? Events/Episodes: what are key steps or events that capture the progress of the situation. Resolution/Outcome: How was the problem solved? Was the goal attained? Theme What is the larger meaning or importance/conclusion to the story
