Tea Chromatography
Introduction
In this lab session, physical transformations were used to separate caffeine content from tea and
separate components by chromatography. The caffeine content was determined by extracting it
from the tea solution by adding sodium carbonate and dichloromethane into the tea and then and
then evaporating the solvent, using a hot plate. By weighing the empty beaker and the beaker after
the solvent has been evaporated on a top loading scale, the mass of caffeine was calculated. In the
second experiment, paper chromatography was used to separate the dyes in colored markers. The
purpose of this experiment is to observe how chromatography can be used to separate mixtures of
chemical substances. Chromatography serves mainly as a tool for ... Show more content on

Methanol(1) Dyes used were blue and yellow : diffused into a lighter shade of the blue and yellow.
Methanol(2) Dyes used were light green and brown: light green diffused into yellow and brown
diffused into a rusty red color.
Water Dyes used were red and green: dyes were slightly spread but did not change much.
Discussion
By calculation, the amount of caffeine contained within 100 mL of the tea solution is
approximately 26.8 mg. This data may be imprecise due to the possible errors during the extraction
of caffeine from the tea. Errors could have been made during phase separation and how vigorously
or gentle the mixture was shook. Also, errors could have been made during the filtration process
and not separating enough of the tea mixture from the dichloromethane, thus causing the calculation

Identify the Forms of Pragmatic Politeness and Impoliteness
Identify Forms of Politeness
Identify the forms of pragmatic politeness and impoliteness used by one of the speakers, De Falco
In the beginning of the rescue, De Falco (the Coast Guard Commander) was talking to the captain
of the cruise ship (i.e. Schettino) about coordinating the rescue. This was accomplished through
using direct positive politeness. Under this kind of approach, De Falco was telling Schettino that
he needed to go to the starboard side of ship and determine how many people were trapped. The
way that this occurred is De Falco told Schettino what need to be done. (Culpeper, 2011)
Evidence of this can be seen with De Falco saying, Schettino? Listen Schettino. There are people
trapped on board. Now you go with your boat under the prow on the starboard side. There is a
pilot ladder. You will climb that ladder and go on board. You go on board and then you will tell
me how many people there are. Is that clear? I m recording this conversation, Cmdr Schettino. (
Costa Concordia Cruise Disaster, 2012) This is showing how De Falco is trying to nicely tell
Schettino that he needs to go back on board the ship immediately (during the middle of a crisis).
(Culpeper, 2011) As Schettino failed to comply with De Falco s instructions, is when he began to
use more direct forms of impoliteness to push him. After refusing to do so, is when the
conversation became more heated between the two parties (with De Falco coming to the point of
threatening the Commander). This

Plagiarism In The Bedford Researcher, By Mike Palmquist
In The Bedford Researcher, Mike Palmquist (2015), identifies the consequences regarding work
that has been plagiarized, and plagiarism is taken very seriously, because it guards intellectual
property, and recognizes academic work has owners, this protects an author s time and energy that
is invested into creating a document (p. 127). Plagiarism can be an accidental or deliberate use of
someone s else s ideas, thoughts, writings, and evidence without giving credit to the
source(Palmquist, 2015, p. 127). According to Palmquist (2015), accidental or unintentional
plagiarism is the most frequent form of plagiarism, which is caused by an author failing to cite the
sources they used within their work correctly, therefore failing to recognize

Summary Of The Red Figure Volute Krater
The Red Figure Volute Krater was made in ca. 310 100 B.C by an unknown Arpi painter. This
mixing vessel was crafted in Apulia, a region near southern Italy. It was made out of ceramic and
was smoothly painted. The mixing vessel/vase is approximately half the height of the average
human, and approximately 20 inches in diameter, making it a rather large piece of art. It had a
solid base, hollowed our center and two handles on either side, for carrying and decoration. Red
Figure Volute Krater is a very intriguing artwork and includes two painted sides that depict
narratives. The artists use of detailed figures, movement, and composition create an emotional
narrative for the viewer of the Red Figure Volute Krater. The Red Figure Volute Krater is located
in the Tampa Museum of Arts. The museum has a modern feel to it and by viewing it from the
outside you will notice its modern architecture. The artwork is located in an exhibit with Greek
and Roman antiquities, which is on the second floor of the museum. When you walk up the
main stair case this is the first exhibit you see, it is not easily hidden, and it is filled with
fascinating objects. This exhibit in particular is located next to an exhibit on animals in ancient
art, which also displays similar artworks. I believe that since the exhibit where this piece is
displayed is front and center so to speak in the museum many people can view it. This work
specifically located in a stand alone display case in the center of the

Unferth s Heroism In Beowulf
from his journey. Unferth debated the merit of heroism with Grendel despite very few responses
from him Unferth believes himself a hero and refuses to think he isn t but Grendel does not give
in just listens unaffected. Unferth states that no one will know that he came to Grendel s cave or
if he fled to hills like a coward claiming that alone shows his inner heroisms. He gave the
ultimatum that either him or Grendel was going to walk out of the cave alive. Grendel highly
disagrees with his statement and believes Unferth to have completely contradicted his earlier
assertions of what a hero is. So Grendel just waits not bothering to fight with Unferth after his
travels and then once Unferth fell asleep Grendel carried him all the way back... Show more content

He explains how he ended up coming to the aid of Hrothgar after hearing of all the disaster and
terror Grendel had wrought upon the mead hall. Quickly at a feast to celebrate the arrival of
Beowulf a dane, Unferth, immediately questions how worthy Beowulf s credentials are and
actually work. To which Beowulf exclaims, quite boastfully, all of his accomplishments and how
they came to be the story of how he escaped several sea monsters. He is so prideful of his
accomplishments that Hrothgar had to give him a couple of reminders that pride, untempered
by humility, will result in the tragic fall . (Christian) Hrothgar also took the time to point out to
Beowulf that even his status as King was achieved through the grace of God. And that all the
success given by God should be handled with humility and a sense of sharing. (Christian) Since
you can t really accomplish anything by yourself especially in that time period. Hrothgar built
his kingdom up by offering protection to others for a price that had to be paid or he would be
attack that kingdom. And then he had a fight will Grendel which showed that Beowulf would
willingly give up one of his crew just to stop him. He laid down pretending to be asleep so he
could see the monsters tactics and the when he came to attack Beowulf that is when he struck.
Beowulf sprung at him with Grendel unknowing that he was being watched was scared and was
easily defeated by Beowulf who ripped his arm off and watched him walk away slowly dying. But

Theme Of Vengeance In Beowulf
Vengeance is an important value that causes many misfortune in the story of Beowulf. It brings
not only Beowulf, but many others, fame and glory, plus, wealth as well. It is not a sustainable
value for it brings everyone in the story only destruction. The tribes that have been bonded together
by this value get destroyed but it. The value of vengeance ties courage to it since it takes courage
to follow through with someone s desire for vengeance. When Beowulfis helping Hrothgar get his
vengeance, he attacks Grendel, saw that his strength was deserting him, his claws, Bound fast,
Higlac s brave follower tearing at his hands. (Beowulf, page 36). Beowulf fights Grendel with his
hands because he promised Hrothgar that he would help him obtain his vengeance. Beowulf get
his fame, wealth and glory for his victory over Grendel which was achievable through Hrothgar s
desire for vengeance against the monster. After the battle with Grendel, Hrothgar spoke to
Beowulf, Glory is now yours, Forever and ever; your courage has earned it, And your strength.
(Beowulf, page 42). Hrothgar praises Beowulf for granting his desire of vengeance on Grendel
and awards him. He tells Beowulf that he has earned glory and wealth by helping him in
destroying Grendel. Grendel s mother is saddened and angered when she finds out her son is dead
and proceeds to Herot: But a monster still lived, and meant revenge. (Beowulf, page 56).
Vengeance is the cause of destruction and that is what Grendel s

Cults In Research Paper
There are close patterns of interaction among cult members, as well as retaliatory actions on the
part of the host culture toward them all of which create an even more clearly defined religiously
deviant subculture for cults. Cults leader is likely to be solitary, powerful, charismatic figure.
Many characterize cults as lacking a formal organizational structure and as largely controlled in an
authoritative manner by their leader. Cults are often defined and identified by the names of their
leaders, at least in the popular media. Barnes and Becker said Charismatic domination is
established through the extraordinary qualities of the leader. Law is not the source of authority; on
the contrary, he or she proclaims new laws on the basis of revelation, oracular utterance, and
inspiration. There is a fact that cults are in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Greil and Rudy have noted that many organizations are best conceived as parareligious or quasi
religious because they have mixed characteristics, some of which are sacred and others secular.
However, as novel forms of religious identity, cults are likely to be severely challenged by
mainstream culture. Pfeifer found that the vast majority of college students in his sample
described an average cult member only in negative terms; not a single student used positive
terms. He divided them into three groups and had them to respond to one of the three vignettes
describing three groups, but each was selected based upon popular notions of alleged
authoritarian structures and near total environmental control of members, who are kept isolated
for the wider society. The vignettes were identical except for the groups specified that were
Marines, Moonies, or priests. The vignette described a typical recruit, Bill, at the relevant group
facility. He said that when Bill was at the facility, he was not allowed very much contact with his
friends or family and he was seldom

Body Dysmorphic Disorder Research Paper
Body dysmorphic disorder is a distinct mental illness, which causes an individual to become
obsessive on focusing on their flaws in appearance, and to others the flaw may be minor or not
visible. It is also known as dysmorphophobia. Patients affected by BDD have deeply negative
thoughts about their appearance. In the limbic system, hyperactivity causes individuals to feel as
if they are constantly being critiqued and negatively judged by others. Individuals diagnosed with
the illness often look into surgery for their physical appearance to enhance. There are more than
200,000 cases a year involving body dysmorphic disorder, and about 1 in 50 people are affected
(Phillips, 2004). Constantly comparing their image to others, frequent looks in... Show more content

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is extremely effective and has techniques that treat those who suffer
from the disorder. Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the primary technique used. It uses a
method called imaginal exposure, which involves writing short stories about the flaws and
obsessions the patient has on their body. Cognitive Restructuring teaches clients to question their
negative view on their body. This allows them to rethink whether or not the flaw is actually
significant. Those with BDD are taught to non judgmentally accept the uncomforted feeling of their
past situations. That is called Mindfulness Based CBT. The goal of mindfulness is for individuals to
accept their past experiences and think about their thoughts, feelings, and avoidance

Trauma And Its Effects On Dominant Or Recessive Genes
Though trauma may be hereditary, it should not be made an excuse of one s actions. I believe that
it only takes one to break the chain of abuse. However, with recent studies, it has come to light that
traumatic events can alter a person s DNA allowing the effects of trauma to be carried throughout
generations. As a result, this could make the breaking the chain incredibly more difficult in that the
future generation is affected by the same trauma. Trauma is passed down through genetic markers
that in the form of tags that form to biologically prepare offspring for an environment similar to
that of the parent. (Yehuda). These tags that can the opposite effect on dominant or recessive genes.
For example, if the geneis dominant, it may become recessive. As a result, the gene s functionality
has been altered thus causing a permanent change in the descendant s DNA. According to Moshe
Szyf, a researcher at McGill University, the genes were switched off in response to a series of
events, such as abuse during childhood . For example, if even one person is traumatized by
experiences, the generations after can acquire the same epigenetic modifications on their DNA. But
this does not mean that only the ancestors trauma can affectthe descendants, new trauma can also
occur at any time in the line and not just a reaction to the original trauma. Therefore, the new
markers that form would be passed down as well. So instead of just one person affected, many are
because if the original

Presidents Power to Persuade Essay
Presidents Power to Persuade The president of the United States of America is seen around the
world to be the most powerful man on Earth. However, many believe that his only real power is
the power to persuade. The checks and balances of congress and the Supreme Court over the
president are great, and without their support he has relatively little power. A president cannot get
any legislation passed if he does not have the support of the senate and or the house of
representatives. If a president wanted the US to sign a new treaty, the senate would have to ratify it
with a 2/3 majority. If a president wanted new legislation, he must submit it to congress and
persuade both houses to vote for it. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The president also has the power to appoint judges at district, appeal and Supreme Court levels.
This is argued as an important power, but it has its limits. After the nomination to the supreme
court which is the most superior of all courts, has been made, then the senate begins it s
confirmation process. If the senate does not reach a simple majority, as seen with Bork for
example in 1987. With this in mind, the president s power comes down to one thing: persuasion.
This may be done in a variety of ways. The most sucessful way is to telephone individual
congressman and try and pursuade them that way. President Raegan was extremely good at this.
Another way is helping with legislation, i.e passing one piece of legislation and not vetoing it if
congress passes his legislation. A simple trade. However, in actual fact the president has much
more than the power to persuade. He has many options in a lot of areas, though one of them is
persuasion, and is the main power under the circumstances of late Clinton for example, the others
play a major part if a president has control of the senate and or the house of representatives. The
most important power a president has is the power to appoint Supreme Court judges. This gives a
president the chance to have their image in place for a long period of time, after they are

The Shawshank Redemption By Frank Darabont And Starred Tim...
Introduction
I selected the 1994 film, The Shawshank Redemption, which was directed by Frank Darabont and
starred Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The central message of this film is the power of hope.
When Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), says to Red (Morgan Freeman) get busy living or get busy
dying, he is saying that it is only when you willingly risk everything, that freedom becomes
possible.
The film, The Shawshank Redemption takes place in the 1940 s and is the story of a Maine
banker, Andy Dufresne who is wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover and is
sentenced to life imprisonment in Shawshank Penitentiary (Representations of Prison in Nineties

The Body of the Term Project
The film talks about the prisoners being institutionalized , and the thought of spending the
majority of one s life inside a penitentiary would scare anyone (Politics and Film). There comes a
time when a prisoner becomes very accustomed to the life they were living inside prison that
they were dreading the day when they had to leave and go back to the society as a reformed
person (Politics and Film). In the film, Brooks tried to hurt a fellow prisoner just so he could
stay in Shawshank. Each of the prisoners inside Shawshank is locked up metaphorically as well
as literally (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). The forms of isolation in
Shawshank range from the large, enclosed recreation yard to the small work crews down to the
cellblock, cells and solitary confinement literally (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in
Film). The bars, strict schedules, heartless prison guards and predatory sisters add a sense of
entrapment to the layers of isolation (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). There are
also examples of socioeconomic diversity in the film. Andy shares an idea with the prison guards
who are unaware of the tax law. Also, when Andy explains to Red about what a rock hammer is or
stones (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). When The Shawshank Redemption was

1000 Words on Accountability
Accountability is defined by department of defense as the obligation imposed by a law or lawful
order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping an accurate record of government
property, documents or funds. The numerical end product of personnel accountability process
reflects the combat power of a unit. So what is Personnel accountability exactly? Personnel
accountability is a by name tracking system that manages the duty status and location of every
single soldier assigned or attached to a unit. This tracking system also tracks the soldiers as they
arrive to the unit, and depart from the unit for duty. Personnel accountability must be maintained at
all times, for an inaccurate count will lead to disastrous outcomes.... Show more content on

Therefore, it reflects poorly on the commander in charge of the task. Which leads to punishment
of the leadership in charge of the soldiers who did not report and were not accurately accounted
for. Accountability for personnel aids in the accessing of a unit s assets and combat readiness is
called personnel strength reporting. Personnel strength reporting is a command function that
enables a unit as a whole, to analyze the manning levels and readiness to provide commanders
with a snapshot of the unit s combat power and capabilities. The formula to achieve a Personnel
Strength report is achieved by comparing the by name data obtained during the Personnel
accountability process and face it against the specified authorizations to determine the percentage
of the slots filled for certain positions within a unit. Even though Strength reporting seems to be
only important for the deployment process one has to think of the capabilities of each and every
by name soldier within the unit, if the soldiers do not report to training how will they every be
prepared for when it comes to combat situations. So therefore even in garrison we need to maintain
accurate numbers on the soldiers accounted for. If the numbers are inaccurate in garrison, what is it
to say when it comes to combat situations? How will soldiers know how to perform their duties
while they are in combat if they did not attend the specified training that is there

The Theory Of Inclusive Fitness
An oxymoron appeared to exist between Darwin s theory of natural selection (1859) and the
definition of altruism (West et al., 2006). Hamilton s theory of inclusive fitness (1964) appeared to
mediate this problem. However, the theory does not explain altruistic acts towards non kin in line
with natural selection. Reciprocal altruism(Trivers, 1971), indirect altruism (Alexander, 1987) and
strong reciprocity (Gintis, 2000) have been proposed to resolve this conflict. It is of note that
behaviour in all theories has been noted in animals, but will not be discussed further. Instead, the
essay will focus on which theories are most relevant when understanding human sociality, with the
author explaining why no sole theory is seen to describe the phenomenon. All theories will be
discussed in relation to evolutionary stable strategies (ESS), which refers to plans that when
adopted by a majority of members in a population that restrict any other action existing, which could
yield higher reproductive success (Smith Price, 1973).
Darwin s (1859) theory of natural selection hypothesised that individual s with traits that increased
their chance of survival would be more likely to reproduce. Such fitness enhancing genes would
thus be passed to their offspring, increasing the trait s frequency in a population. Altruism thus
appears to be an oxymoron to Darwin s (1859) theory. West et al. (2006) defined such social
behaviour that reduces an actor s fitness but increases the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Audio Watermarking
Abstract: With the increasing usage of digital multimedia, the protection of intellectual property
rights problem has become a very important issue. Digital watermarking is now drawing attention
as a new method of protecting multimedia content from unauthorized copying. Over the past two
decades, many digital watermarkingalgorithms have been developed, each with its own advantages
and disadvantages. The main aim of this paper is to present a survey report of recently done work
in audio watermarkingfields.

LITERATURE SURVEY
The audio watermarking has been a hot research area for protection of digital sound content. Many
researchers have suggested algorithms for that. Some has also done a good survey of previous
work done. That helps fellow researchers to work forward. In [1] Komal et. al presented a survey
report on various audio watermarking algorithms. They divided the work into three main
categories: spread spectrum algorithm, amplitude modification, replica method, dither
watermarking and self marking method. As per the author the spread spectrum method has the
problem of synchronisation and time consumed is higher whereas replica is good for
synchronisation but echo handling is worst. Amplitude modification method needs large channel
capacity and introduces noise too. Overall self marking method is good for synchronisation and
robust for watermarking. Ali Al Haj [2] in his paper proposed solution for shortcomings of spread
spectrum method is overcome by combining it with singular value decomposition for high rate of
robustness. To make it more robust the watermark bits are inserted diagonally into wavelet
transformed input audio signals and a controlling gain parameter is introduced. This method also

The Help Character Analysis Essay
The Help Character Analysis
Did you know that when you were a girl, growing up, that one day you d be a maid? Yes ma am.
Yes I did (Stockett 169). The Help by Kathryn Stockett is a story about Aibileen Clark, a black
housemaid, and Eugenia, Skeeter Phelan, coming together to write a novel about how black maids
are treated good and bad by their white employers in their hometown of Jackson, Mississippi.
Aibileen shows a lot of change throughout the story, evolving from reserved, to progressive, and
finally, to content.
The first character trait Aibileen shows is being reserved. Elizabeth Leefolt, who is Aibileen s
employer, was discussing with her best friend, Hilly Holbrook, about how colored people
residing in white households should have to have to use white bathrooms. Aibileen overhears
this, and is angered, she strongly disagrees with segregation. I m surprised by how tight my
throat get. It s a shame I learned to keep down a long time ago (Stockett 10). This quote reveals
how Aibileen has been treated by others in the past. She holds her tongue because she knows that

Motte And Bailey Castles In Europe During The Middle Ages
Motte and bailey castles have been built all over Europe during the Middle Ages, especially in
England, Wales, and Scotland. They were extremely popular for almost 200 years, and motte
castles continued to be built until the 13th century. They were very innovative during the
Medieval time period. Motte and bailey castles were hard work to construct and eventually
evolved into impressive, more advanced fortresses. The original motte and bailey castles were
incredibly cheap to construct. They were built from just earth and wood and didn t require any
special design. A wooden keepcalled a motte sat on an elevated bank of soil and overlooked the
bailey, an enclosed courtyard. Although some cases consisted of the motte sitting upon a hill,
most of the time mottes were on a man made piece of earthwork. Men would pile up dirt and clay
and flatten out the top to create a stable surface for the motte. The keep was the building,
originally made of wood, that sat upon the motte. This is where the lord and his wife lived. It was

Concentric castles were made of stone and built primarily for protection and defense. The building
of these concentric designs began in the 1200s. The castles consisted of thick walls surrounding the
main castle, usually one large wall surrounding a smaller one. The walls were designed to create
obstacles for anyone trying to attack the castle. The hard, tall walls made it difficult for the
attacker to get at the castle and made it easier for the defenders to fire at them from above. Its
symmetrical shape also made it easier for lookout men to see across the surrounding countryside.
The concentric castles, as beneficial as they were, were also extremely expensive and time
consuming to build. As opposed to motte and bailey castles, which only took a few weeks to build,
concentric castles required years of

Physician-Hospital Organizations Case
In early 1990 s, physician hospital organizations (PHO), legal in the United States, developed to
provide attractive one stop shopping for consumers, employers and managed care payors, by
bonding the medical staff to the hospitals within an organization (Daniels 2011). As with the
majority of healthcare decisions, legal issues surfaced among the formation of PHOs, forcing the
Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to closely examine multiple alliances and networks. Examining
the South Georgia PHO, the FTC found per se illegal in multiple areas such as developing the
group in order to obtain higher fees, unlawfully fixed maximum allowable discounts, and restricted
the ability to contract outside the PHO (Creighton 2004). The FTC evaluates PHOs by assessing...

By promoting competiveness, it would limit the per se illegal. In addition, agreement among the
competing providers to share financial risk for services provided via the network would benefit
the PHO providing efficiencies. Exclusive arrangements do not exist as automatically
anticompetitive as specific justifications may ensure the service to the networks consumers. The
rule of reason, an analytical process provided by the FTC, examines various details and aspects to
visualize the competitive significance of the formation of the PHO (FTC 1996). Such as, if
examination proves the integration, of the network, benefits the consumers and the price
agreements are necessary to obtain the benefits for patients. Also, if a hospital decides not to
provide a service that is not profitable, but focus more on a profitable service, the hospital is
allowed to enter into an agreement with an integrated network PHO to provide the less profitable
service. Healthcare reform has created many unique opportunities for the development and
networks of providers. Fortunately, the U.S. legal systems engages plans, forums and laws to

Evaluation Of Sociological Theory
Sociological theory is a set of well defined concepts interrelated and interlinked with each other.
The propositions contain concepts inter related with each other with a logical explanation.
Sociological theories are scientific and systematic symbolic construction which must be valid and
reasonable but subjected to verification in the initial stages. Sociological theories are embedded

For Skidmore, theoretical problems are questions about how we might understand problematic
aspects of the social world. For example, how do we explain social disintegration or the
maintenance of social stability, the persistence of poverty, the rise and fall of the suicide rate or
the birth rate, for example? Skidmore argues that the solutions to these problems usually involve
the creation of additional related concepts through which the first problem can be understood.
Marxism is a philosophy, a world view, a system of social and economic analysis , and it became
political doctrine. In understanding Marxism it is important to understand the time in which
Marxist ideology developed, which was during the culmination of the Enlightenment, the middle
and late 1800s, when America still had slaves, women did not have the right to vote anywhere,
women had very few rights at all in most places, the poor were extremely bad off in Europe,
imperialism and colonialism were the order of the day, the world truly was dominated by a handful
of extremely wealthy men and science was being more widely embraced by average citizens

Northern Economy Vs. Southern Economy
In the beginning of the 1800s, it was kind of easy to tell that the North and the South were not alike
since, in the North, slavery was forbidden, while in the South, it was the most important part of the
community. As years passed by, differences became more evolved, especially when the North
became more industrial, and its economy became a market economy. Though the North and South
both have different economies, and different daily lives, they both have similarities. In the North,
though there were still a few small subsistence farms, industrially mass produced products were the
base of the Northern economy. Money was made in this market economy by selling tons of items

In the North, people determined how long they worked by a clock. Also, when they worked, they
were paid in wages. So pretty much, payment was determined by the hour. In the South it was
different. In the South, payments were determined by how hard a person worked from sunrise to
sunset. If a Southerner worked hard in his job, they had a higher chance of getting more money
than a person who slacks. For the North, living situations, and the environment isn t the best, when
it comes to the Northern cities. In the cities, safety was really bad because the, ...cities expanded
so quickly that municipal services police departments, fire stations, and sanitation works struggled
to keep up. Fire was an ever present danger in the nation s urban areas. ... Mobs and gangs
gathered at local taverns, where young men sometimes attacked each other or turned their violence
against immigrants or nonwhite people. (City danger) Not only are fires and mobs taking over the
city, but disease is too. With the water pollution from feces and more components of an unclean,
over populated environment, sicknesses came frequently and caused a lot of deaths among the
people of the north (Paraphrased Problems). In the south, the general people s environment was far
from city like. Most of the land, due to the fact that the South was mostly agrarian, was full of
continuous farm land. This makes it seem like the air in the South is much cleaner than the air in
the North. Both the north and the south rely on cotton in their daily lives though, the South relies
on cotton as a crop, while the North relies on the cotton for

Introduction. In Contemporary Society, The Boost Number
Introduction
In contemporary society, the boost number of young people choose to go abroad to study. There are
over 7.2 million international students all over the world (Bohm et al., 2002) Because those
students figure out that education abroad is more concerned about personality, and can be
independent of them. However, second language learning has become one of the most serious
problems for international students. Therefore, higher education provides language courses for
international students who are not native tongue. However, many students are not using the foreign
languages fluently yet. If international students want a perfect comprehension of the target

(2010). When the international students talk with the native speaker, they will gain the information
from the conversation which is the cultural exchange. For language learners, they can learn and
summarize cultural elements from the dialogue. Moreover, if they use the cultures in the next
conversation, they will become more confident. They will feel the distance between them and
native speaker become closer, and can they become more confident than before. Thus, you can get
more confident while you use the cultural exchange to learn the language. One major issue in early
diversity class research concerned in a single cultural class, student acceptance will decline, because
of their level thinking is unity and did not let those students feel self confidence from learning
something. (Sleeter, 2001)
Also, the cultural exchange can provide the win win situation for professors and students. For
example, the opportunities to communicate with teachers become more because of the
multilinguistic. (Yang, 2010) The language is different between students and professors. However,
it has become the lubricant between them. People can be more curiosity while they have a different
culture. Moreover, if they want to understand each other, they would like to exchange culture to
achieve the common target. According to Sleeter Preservice students of color bring a richer

The Protection of Consumer Privacy in E-Business
Electronic business, commonly known as eBusiness or e business ,is a business running on the

where the interaction is enabled by information technology . When information technology has

Very often, people commit a crime because they think that the punishment is not harsh enough.
Therefore, to show the determination to protect consumer privacy, the government should impose
harsher punishment that is deterrent enough. Besides, it is essential to allocate more resource to
establish some departments which can help protect people s privacy in e business. In addition to
punishment ad establish departments, the government should educate young people about
importance of respecting people s privacy. The education should be done everywhere, for example,
in school, in public areas, and on television, so that it can uproot young people s wrong values.
Companies also ought to take effective measures to protect consumer privacy. One practical
proposal would be that organizations should establish internal controls and physical safeguard for
information security. On the one hand, company builds up a security system to control their
internal enterprise. Data control and management is a critical issue for corporations. The service
provider should be able to ensure customers information security, especially those important data
such as credit card number, ID number, and email that avoid information falling into the wrong
hands. On the other hand, the e business providers should keep their marketing ethics and social
responsibility during the business operation.
Apart from companies, consumers also

Computers and Human-Level Intelligence Essays
Computers are taking more and more jobs and this trend will accelerate as we approach
technological singularity. This is the event when computers will attain human level intelligence
Natalie Wolchover states. The singularity is projected to arrive sometime around 2030 2040, but it
could occur sooner depending on how computertechnology develops. Wolchover states:
Physicist, author and self described futurist Ray Kurzweil has predicted that computers will come to
par with humans within two decades. He told Time Magazine last year that engineers will
successfully reverse engineer the human brain by the mid 2020s, and by the end of that decade,

Singh, Susheela, and Jacqueline E. Darroch conclude:
The trend toward lower adolescent birthrates and pregnancy rates over the past 25 years is
widespread and is occurring across the industrialized world, suggesting that the reasons for this
general trend are broader than factors limited to any one country: increased importance of
education, increased motivation of young people to achieve higher levels of education and training,
and greater centrality of goals other than motherhood and family formation for young women.
This shows that education and even knowledge of other opportunities, contraception and abortions
can lower the population rate allowing fewer burdens on the government over austerity especially in
countries where financial responsibility is not valued as much.

The Linguistic Situation of Bulgaria
Introduction:
In the field of linguistics language change may be credited to a variety to social, cultural and
geographical factors. However, language also has a temporal variation, which can be either long
term or short term. The study of language over time/history requires the analysis of a broad range
of texts and linguistic aspects. In order to study the history of a language, it is useful to focus on a
particular region.
The linguistic situation of Bulgaria is an immensely fascinating subject when studied in parallel
with the historical events, since languages tend to develop alongside history.
The aim of this paper is to explore the linguistic history for Bulgaria through the study of past
language changes and impact of sociolinguistics, ethnic and religious divide in order to understand
the current linguistic situation. This paper examines text from many sources, including a person
with first hand experience. By being mindful of the context and purpose for which these texts were
written, we are better able to analyze the use to the languages of Bulgarian through time. For the
purpose of this paper I will analyze pages from text that describe the political/natural history and
pages that describe the moral history in order avoid erroneous conclusions involving rhetoric and
style or more seriously a misinterpretation due to political/religious bias.

Exploratons and Colonization of North and South America...
Exploration and colonization of North and South America were ultimately not beneficial in the
15th and 16th centuries because it wiped out many cultures and did more harm than good. First of
all, the Europeans forcibly converted the Natives to Christianity. This had a great negative impact
because it resulted in the loss of native cultures. Over time, many Native American languages
started to disappear from common use and English took over. Many may argue that colonization
and exploration were important because of the Columbian Exchange that arose from it, however
diseases and the slave trade also came from the Columbian exchange. I believe that the death of

Though there were some colonies that did not practice religious tolerance, the majority of the
colonies did practice religious tolerance. The horrible and brutal treatment of the Native Americans
were unnecessary and could have been avoided. Men like Columbus and Cortes treated the Natives
with a cruel and brutal hand. They enslaved a great amount of natives, they brought disease to the
natives and they ruthlessly killed the Natives for no good reason. There could have been other
ways in which the Natives and Europeans could have interacted in order to get what both sides

Europeans and Natives could have respectfully made deals about trade rather than the Europeans

The Economics Of Climate Change
Tristan Ridley
English 102

The Economics of Climate Change
The world economy is a very complex system; in the system harmful externalities disrupt capital
flows and determine economic productivity. Most notable of these externalities is inadvertent
global warming. Spending towards research and regulation of climate change at both the national
and international level are very important in determining current and future business trends.
Economists and scientists worldwide continuously debate the pros and cons of emissions reduction
and what consequences can quickly follow. Though many have different views on the issue, all can
agree that the immediate and long term effects of climate change have become an economic matter
of paramount importance. The sweeping impact from climate change will have important fiscal,
financial, and macroeconomic ramifications that influence global commerce standards.
In the absence of concerted action by the world s governments, anthropogenic greenhouse gas
emissions will cause global temperatures to increase between 3 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit over the
next century (Ranson 2). Gradually, this rise in temperature causes changing precipitation patterns,
rising sea levels, and a decrease in snow cover that enables a broad range of climatic shifts to take
place. Considering such sudden environmental decay, there is a very limited time frame to gather
scientific data that shape public and foreign policy. Therefore,

Functionalism In The Film Mean Girls
Functionalist theory states that everyone in a society serve a purpose that helps that society
function. All individuals of a society have certain social roles that when working together allows
them to form a society, this allows for there to be inequality amongst individuals (Anderson, Para
3). Functionalism also says that social order is maintained through public consensus (Anderson,
Para 4). So in other words the adjustments that some individuals make in response to any behavior
that isn t part or the normal norms or deviant behavior, allows for change. In the film Mean Girls,
functionalist would look at all of the different groups in this movie as important and even necessary
to the proper function of the high school (Anderson, Para 3).

membership revenues. Yet there was a positive rolefor auxiliary activities which were intended to

The museum image, as explained by the director and Ms. Mercer and based on their marketing

Therefore, this issue is a serious one, if people cannot find the museum interesting from the first

Fools Rush In starts out comparing the lives of two very different people. Alex Whitman is a
white, upper class successful New Yorker who has recently been relocated to Las Vegas.
Isabelle Fuentes is a Mexican American woman struggling with her photography career in Las
Vegas. They meet by chance in a restaurant and have a one night stand. Three months later,
Isabelle interrupts Alex s smooth lifestyle with the announcement that she is pregnant. After
meeting Isabelle s very tight knit, very Catholic Hispanic family, Alex decides they should
elope. What follows are many comedic scenarios of both people trying to fit in to the other s
culture. Real problems arise with topics of race, religion, and location. Each family contributes to
the stress of the situation. Isabelle s family thinks that they need to stay in Las Vegas in order to
be closer to family, and that the baby s religion has to be Catholic. Alex s family thinks themselves
superior over Mexican Americans and thinks that economics is more important than being close to
family. Isabelle lies about a miscarriage, and they go their separate ways. The underlying theme of
destiny plays a major part in the movie at this time. Alex relies on his faith to bring him back to
Isabelle, and they decide that despite their differences, they were meant to be together.

The Extinction of Pleistocene Mammals Essay
During the late Pleistocene, a mystery occurred in which large mammals went extinct in North
America while they survived in other parts of the world. Scientists studying the late Pleistocene
extinction provided a plethora of explanations, including overkill by humans, extraterrestrial events,
and climate changes (Faith and Surovell, 2009). However, there was no unified explanation that
they all agreed upon. Taking note of this, J. Tyler Faith and Todd A. Surovell conducted tests to
discover whether the extinction was a single event or a long term process. Their findings were
important to other scientists in the same field, as they served as a guideline for their explanations
of catalysts of the extinction.
Scientists in this field have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some scientists have attributed the extinction to an extraterrestrial event. In 2009, another group of
scientists found nanodiamonds in the sediment layer dating back to the Younger Dryas a period of
glacial dewarming. Because these nanodiamonds needed conditions similar to that of cosmic
impacts to form, they concluded that a large group of comets might have impacted the Earth,
causing the Pleistocene extinction (Kennett et. al, 2009). Although the research done on late
Pleistocene extinctions was extensive, the conclusions for these explanatory models contradicted
one another.
Amid these conclusions, Faith and Surovell derived their question from the fact that one cannot
develop explanations for this phenomenon without knowing whether the extinction was a long term
process or a single event. They hypothesized that the extinction during the North American late
Pleistocene was a single event that occurred between 12,000 and 10,000 radiocarbon years B.P.

Prenatal Contraception And Prenatal Care Essay
The risk of maternal and infant mortality can be significantly reduced by increasing access to early
and adequate prenatal care (Chapman Durham, 2010). The prenatal period provides an opportunity
to make positive changes in all aspects of a women s health status and health maintenance
behaviors. Early and adequate prenatal care provides the opportunity to identify significant risks to
the pregnant women, and develop interventions to reduce or eliminate potential complications
(Chapman Durham, 2010).
Prenatal care encompasses the health care services provided to a women, from the time the women
becomes pregnant until birth. Prenatal care consists of three major components, risk assessment,
treatment of existing medical conditions and/or risk reduction, and patient education (Chapman
Durham, 2010). Current guidelines established by the American College of Obstetrician and
Gynecologists, regarding prenatal care for a low risk, expected full term pregnancy, include at least
thirteen prenatal visits (ACOG, 2016). Recommendations suggest one visit per month for the first
28 weeks of pregnancy, bi monthly during 29 36 weeks and then every week until birth (ACOG,
2016). Evidence based practices emphasize the importance of receiving both early prenatal care,
beginning in the first trimester as well as adequate prenatal care, encompassing all perinatal
education and guidance (ACOG, 2016).

Computer Science Reflection
My undergraduate major is measurement, and I have spent the last three years learning about
optics, mechanics, electric circuits, and coding. Among those courses, and following three years
of training including pieces of research and coursework, I have realized that I am enamored with
coding the most. First of all, I enjoy the process of coding and verifying and adjusting the
program. Taking my digital signal processor coursework as an example, after I finished writing
the code, it appeared that the code might not have been correct because I could not receive the
right temperature. So I set the program to a debug mode and run every single step of my code and
observed the feedback value. This was a very diversion for me. With the criticism comes about
because of single step investigating, I made a couple of theories about the issue, for example, the
time postponed is not sufficiently exact, or I might be coding about the wrong sticks. So I checked
these hypotheses one by one, and for reasons unknown, the issue is the piece of my program
concerning time deferring because the segment I used to quantify temperature which is DS18B20
is extremely strict on timing arrangement. Getting the right outcome is exceptionally fulfilling, so
is the procedure because through speculation autonomously I procure much involvement and
capability. Another thing that intrigues me regarding computer science comes from what I have
learned through our research requirement in theory and technology

Correlation Between Unemployment And Inflation
Kitov Kitov (2011) provided an empirical model to check the impact of inflation and
unemployment reactions to changes in the labor force in Switzerland using data from 1965 to
2010. Their overall, findings established that there exist long term equilibrium relations between the
rate of labor force change and inflationrate.
AMINU (2012) investigated the relationship between unemployment and inflation in Nigeria
economy between 1977 and 2009. The results indicate that inflation had a negative impact on
unemployment. The causality test reveals that there is no causation between unemployment and
inflation in Nigeria during the period of study and a long run relationship exists between them as
confirmed by the co integration test.

it shows that there is negative relationship between inflation and unemployment, which means that
there is trade off between this two variables. The empirical review base on the paper that was
reviewed during the study, most the reviewed paper reached the same conclusion as it was reached
by theoretical model of having a negative or trade off relationship between inflation and
unemployment in their different focused environment. Only two of the researched paper that was
reviewed shows the findings of positive relationship between inflation and unemployment. Meaning
that their study found out that there is no trade off between inflation and unemployment which is
differs from the theoretical model.
Chapter 3
Research Methodology and research techniques
3.1. Introduction
Previous chapter reviewed the theoretical and empirical literature on the trade off between inflation
and unemployment. These couple theoretical and empirical review shed some light on the trade off
between inflation and unemployment. This section will build on that background to set the
analytical framework used in this study.
2. Data sources
The study will employ the annual data over the period of 1991 2014 that will make up the
sample size of 24 years. The main reason why the sample size is small is because Namibia where
the study is concentrating got independence in 1990 and the available and reliable

Recommendation
As the manager of Large Baker s supply chain department, it is recommended by implementing
option 2, a variable lead time, buffering against variation in lead time into the company s supply
chain distribution network that Large Bakers will achieve approximately $194,000 annually.
With this alternative Large Bakers will keep a close eye on production level and order the 25 cars
at variable lead time. As a result, efficient production will allow Large Bakers to save on decreased
inventory costs as well as achieve greater efficiency in utilization of key transport times to align
with consumer demand.

Safety Stock Required Determination
Known Research:
Flour usage to meet demand can be taken at an average of 2,000 tonnes every 2 weeks, with a
standard deviation of 300 tonnes.
Variable order cycle lead time from placement to receiving of the order = 4 days.
If an absolutely regular 14 day shipping cycle is followed the railway will cut its rate by $5.00 per
tonne.
Under the variable order cycle the freight rate saving will be only $4.50 per tonne.
Demand Varies:
Level of production required: 98.5%

Walden, By Henry David Thoreau
The majority of Henry David Thoreau s Walden, concerns the idea of opting out of society. In his
chapter Solitude Thoreau describes how [his] horizon bounded by woods all to [himself] (111) is
beautiful and belongs solely to him. As he is enjoying nature Thoreau states, There can be no very
black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of Nature (111). Thoreau s theme of being alone
and appreciating nature is found throughout his book to such an extent that one can conclude that
he believes the best way to live is without society. Thoreau cannot stand to pay his taxes because he
refuses to, recognize the authority of, the state which buys and sells men, women, and children

People love to have the newest toys, and put great stock in the newest fashion trends. In present
day society, new technology or clothes symbolize status and wealth that separates the social
classes of people. Thoreau shows his readers that this form of separation has existed since the
eighteen hundreds. Thoreau comments on how people would often throw out perfectly good
clothes, because of one little hole, because people are judged by their clothes (20). This upsets
Thoreau because to him, a little bit of damage does not mean something is useless or broken. He
believes that people should just patch the hole, since it is more cost effective and will increase
the duration of the articles lifetime. However, more commonly the piece of clothing is thrown
out to be replaced by a new article. In Thoreau s eyes, people follow such a practice because, Our
outside and often thin and fanciful clothes are our epidermis or false skin (21). Thoreau s dislike
of society stems from the fact that people [Donn] garment after garment (21), taking too much
pride in their outward appearance. The idea that the value of a person s life is dictated by their
possessions is one reason why Thoreau believes that society serves to corrupt and infect everyone
who is a part of it. Society refuses to live by necessity alone, but rather focuses on the accumulation

Addiction Brain Disease Model
To be an addict one must simply depend on a particular substance and upon giving up this
substance, one may experience adverse effects. When I hear the word addiction, my mind
automatically thinks of someone who does drugs. When realistically, addiction doesn t have to be
connected to any type of drugs at all. Personally, I feel as if I struggle with a caffeine addiction.
Since having children, I can t keep count of the number of times I have heard that so many
mothers and fathers begin their mornings with coffee because it gives them the extra push to
wake up and get things done. In result, I have sought after this morning cure and began drinking
a cup every morning. I wonder If things would be different if the same people who pushed me to
give into the wonderful cup of joe, said that water gave them the extra motivation, if I would be
susceptible to having a water addiction instead. I wake up every morning thinking that I would like
to try to not drink coffee so I can find better ways in naturally gaining energy,... Show more content

The National Institute for Drug Abuse agrees by breaking down a more biological understanding
of addiction. Their method is known as a disease model. They believe that it is quite clear that drug
addiction is considered a brain disease because drugs change the brain they change it s structure
and how it works. The disease model consists of some well thought out points. It states that drug
addiction is a brain disease because repeated use and abuse of drugs changes the brain. Drug
addiction alters brain pleasure centers, so that normal happiness requires higher and more frequent
drugs. Brain imaging studies show changes in the brain that are critical to judgement, decision
making, and behavior control. The risk for becoming an addict is greatly dependent on one s
biology, such as gender or ethnicity. The prepondrance of research indicates neurological effects of

The United States As A Christian Nation
Was the United States Founded as a Christian Nation? Have you ever wondered why people in the
American society think any kind of demonstrated behavior is acceptable? The Christian views once
instilled in United States citizens have grown sparse today, in comparison to what they once were.
Opinions of many people have changed concerning multiple issues. Many founding views were
centered on Godly principles as portrayed in the U.S. Constitution, and as well as the Declaration of
Independence. As society continues to argue over the inclusion of religionin politics, members of
society reap the effects in many areas, particularly in the education system. I strongly agree that the
United Stateswas founded as a Christian nation. Religion has been a large part of this country,
starting with the very first people to arrive in America, the Pilgrims. Breaking away from the
Church of England, the Pilgrims settled in what is now known as Massachusetts in 1620, in order
to express religious freedom. They wanted to practice Christian beliefs similar to ones practiced by
earlier Christians. Based on the views of the founding people of America, many would claim this as
support that America was founded as a Christian nation. Fast forward to the late 1700 s, where both
the Declaration of Independence and The United States Constitutionhad been written. These
documents both showed signs of a Christian foundation with multiple references to God. As stated
in the Declaration, [They] hold

Taking a Look at Don Marquis
Don Marquis, born on July 29, 1878 in Walnut, Illinois, United States, was a very dark and
satirical man. Translating his love of the work of Mark Twain, and also taking inspiration from
many tragic events that took most of his family from him, he became the man he is known as today.
Don Marquis worked many jobs before he started writing such as: in a pharmacy, on a chicken
farm, on a railroad, for a county newspaper, and as a schoolteacher (Knight). In 1899 he went to
Washington, D. C., where for a time he was simultaneously a student at the Corcoran School of
Art, a clerk in the Census Bureau, and a reporter for the Washington Times . At this time he was
torn between wanting to act, to paint, and write. Journalism eventually won, and in 1902 he joined
the staff of the Atlanta News, becoming an editorial writer on the Atlanta Journal two years later. In
1909 Marquis moved to New York City, where, after working as a reporter on the American and
the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, he joined the editing staff of the Evening Sun. Next year, in April 1913,
he began the Sun Dial, which was the column he was to make famous (1. Donald ).
Later on he was torn between his desires to act, to paint, and to write. Journalism eventually won
the upper hand, and in 1902 joined staff of the Atlanta (Ga.) News (1. Donald ). Two years later he

Urbanization and Its Effects

Urbanization brings about a social change. This is most prominent in the expansion of

Why Accountants Are Important For The Future Of...
Introduction
Accountants play a very pivotal role in the success of all businesses as they are deemed to be
foundation of business interactions (Malley, 2015). Being professional accountants they have
expertise which helps them provide quality service and advice on business matters. They increase
value of business by implementing accounting systems and rules required by any particular
business and area. Increased business profitability is another factor for which accountants are
important drivers as they provide cost effective measures and unique operating techniques.
Accounting is an old profession which has evolved significantly over time from manual
bookkeeping to complex accounting software (Caulfield, 2016). Accounting is mostly confused
with just data entry and reporting for which accounting software are available that can perform the
function much quicker and efficiently. Now a few questions do pop up in our minds as to what will
be the future of accountants with such technological advancements? How will accountants adapt
themselves with changing needs?
This report will shed light on above mentioned concerns and we will see later that future of

  • 2. Tea Chromatography Introduction In this lab session, physical transformations were used to separate caffeine content from tea and separate components by chromatography. The caffeine content was determined by extracting it from the tea solution by adding sodium carbonate and dichloromethane into the tea and then and then evaporating the solvent, using a hot plate. By weighing the empty beaker and the beaker after the solvent has been evaporated on a top loading scale, the mass of caffeine was calculated. In the second experiment, paper chromatography was used to separate the dyes in colored markers. The purpose of this experiment is to observe how chromatography can be used to separate mixtures of chemical substances. Chromatography serves mainly as a tool for ... Discussion By calculation, the amount of caffeine contained within 100 mL of the tea solution is approximately 26.8 mg. This data may be imprecise due to the possible errors during the extraction of caffeine from the tea. Errors could have been made during phase separation and how vigorously or gentle the mixture was shook. Also, errors could have been made during the filtration process and not separating enough of the tea mixture from the dichloromethane, thus causing the calculation to be ... • 3. Identify the Forms of Pragmatic Politeness and Impoliteness Identify Forms of Politeness Identify the forms of pragmatic politeness and impoliteness used by one of the speakers, De Falco In the beginning of the rescue, De Falco (the Coast Guard Commander) was talking to the captain of the cruise ship (i.e. Schettino) about coordinating the rescue. This was accomplished through using direct positive politeness. Under this kind of approach, De Falco was telling Schettino that he needed to go to the starboard side of ship and determine how many people were trapped. The way that this occurred is De Falco told Schettino what need to be done. (Culpeper, 2011) Evidence of this can be seen with De Falco saying, Schettino? Listen Schettino. There are people trapped on board. Now you go with your boat under the prow on the starboard side. There is a pilot ladder. You will climb that ladder and go on board. You go on board and then you will tell me how many people there are. Is that clear? I m recording this conversation, Cmdr Schettino. ( Costa Concordia Cruise Disaster, 2012) This is showing how De Falco is trying to nicely tell Schettino that he needs to go back on board the ship immediately (during the middle of a crisis). (Culpeper, 2011) As Schettino failed to comply with De Falco s instructions, is when he began to use more direct forms of impoliteness to push him. After refusing to do so, is when the conversation became more heated between the two parties (with De Falco coming to the point of threatening the Commander). This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plagiarism In The Bedford Researcher, By Mike Palmquist In The Bedford Researcher, Mike Palmquist (2015), identifies the consequences regarding work that has been plagiarized, and plagiarism is taken very seriously, because it guards intellectual property, and recognizes academic work has owners, this protects an author s time and energy that is invested into creating a document (p. 127). Plagiarism can be an accidental or deliberate use of someone s else s ideas, thoughts, writings, and evidence without giving credit to the source(Palmquist, 2015, p. 127). • 5. Summary Of The Red Figure Volute Krater The Red Figure Volute Krater was made in ca. 310 100 B.C by an unknown Arpi painter. This mixing vessel was crafted in Apulia, a region near southern Italy. It was made out of ceramic and was smoothly painted. The mixing vessel/vase is approximately half the height of the average human, and approximately 20 inches in diameter, making it a rather large piece of art. It had a solid base, hollowed our center and two handles on either side, for carrying and decoration. Red Figure Volute Krater is a very intriguing artwork and includes two painted sides that depict narratives. The artists use of detailed figures, movement, and composition create an emotional narrative for the viewer of the Red Figure Volute Krater. The Red Figure Volute Krater is located in the Tampa Museum of Arts. The museum has a modern feel to it and by viewing it from the outside you will notice its modern architecture. The artwork is located in an exhibit with Greek and Roman antiquities, which is on the second floor of the museum. When you walk up the main stair case this is the first exhibit you see, it is not easily hidden, and it is filled with fascinating objects. This exhibit in particular is located next to an exhibit on animals in ancient art, which also displays similar artworks. I believe that since the exhibit where this piece is displayed is front and center so to speak in the museum many people can view it. To which Beowulf exclaims, quite boastfully, all of his accomplishments and how they came to be the story of how he escaped several sea monsters. He is so prideful of his accomplishments that Hrothgar had to give him a couple of reminders that pride, untempered by humility, will result in the tragic fall . (Christian) Hrothgar also took the time to point out to Beowulf that even his status as King was achieved through the grace of God. And that all the success given by God should be handled with humility and a sense of sharing. (Christian) Since you can t really accomplish anything by yourself especially in that time period. Hrothgar built his kingdom up by offering protection to others for a price that had to be paid or he would be attack that kingdom. • 7. Theme Of Vengeance In Beowulf Vengeance is an important value that causes many misfortune in the story of Beowulf. It brings not only Beowulf, but many others, fame and glory, plus, wealth as well. It is not a sustainable value for it brings everyone in the story only destruction. The tribes that have been bonded together by this value get destroyed but it. The value of vengeance ties courage to it since it takes courage to follow through with someone s desire for vengeance. When Beowulfis helping Hrothgar get his vengeance, he attacks Grendel, saw that his strength was deserting him, his claws, Bound fast, Higlac s brave follower tearing at his hands. Beowulf get his fame, wealth and glory for his victory over Grendel which was achievable through Hrothgar s desire for vengeance against the monster. After the battle with Grendel, Hrothgar spoke to Beowulf, Glory is now yours, Forever and ever; your courage has earned it, And your strength. (Beowulf, page 42). Cults In Research Paper There are close patterns of interaction among cult members, as well as retaliatory actions on the part of the host culture toward them all of which create an even more clearly defined religiously deviant subculture for cults. Cults leader is likely to be solitary, powerful, charismatic figure. Many characterize cults as lacking a formal organizational structure and as largely controlled in an authoritative manner by their leader. Cults are often defined and identified by the names of their leaders, at least in the popular media. Barnes and Becker said Charismatic domination is established through the extraordinary qualities of the leader. Greil and Rudy have noted that many organizations are best conceived as parareligious or quasi religious because they have mixed characteristics, some of which are sacred and others secular. However, as novel forms of religious identity, cults are likely to be severely challenged by mainstream culture. Pfeifer found that the vast majority of college students in his sample described an average cult member only in negative terms; not a single student used positive terms. He divided them into three groups and had them to respond to one of the three vignettes describing three groups, but each was selected based upon popular notions of alleged authoritarian structures and near total environmental control of members, who are kept isolated for the wider society. The vignettes were identical except for the groups specified that were Marines, Moonies, or priests. The vignette described a typical recruit, Bill, at the relevant group facility. Body Dysmorphic Disorder Research Paper Body dysmorphic disorder is a distinct mental illness, which causes an individual to become obsessive on focusing on their flaws in appearance, and to others the flaw may be minor or not visible. It is also known as dysmorphophobia. Patients affected by BDD have deeply negative thoughts about their appearance. In the limbic system, hyperactivity causes individuals to feel as if they are constantly being critiqued and negatively judged by others. Individuals diagnosed with the illness often look into surgery for their physical appearance to enhance. • 10. Trauma And Its Effects On Dominant Or Recessive Genes Though trauma may be hereditary, it should not be made an excuse of one s actions. I believe that it only takes one to break the chain of abuse. However, with recent studies, it has come to light that traumatic events can alter a person s DNA allowing the effects of trauma to be carried throughout generations. As a result, this could make the breaking the chain incredibly more difficult in that the future generation is affected by the same trauma. Trauma is passed down through genetic markers that in the form of tags that form to biologically prepare offspring for an environment similar to that of the parent. (Yehuda). These tags that can the opposite effect on dominant or recessive genes. For example, if the geneis dominant, it may become recessive. As a result, the gene s functionality has been altered thus causing a permanent change in the descendant s DNA. According to Moshe Szyf, a researcher at McGill University, the genes were switched off in response to a series of events, such as abuse during childhood . For example, if even one person is traumatized by experiences, the generations after can acquire the same epigenetic modifications on their DNA. But this does not mean that only the ancestors trauma can affectthe descendants, new trauma can also occur at any time in the line and not just a reaction to the original trauma. Therefore, the new markers that form would be passed down as well. So instead of just one person affected, many are because if the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Presidents Power to Persuade Essay Presidents Power to Persuade The president of the United States of America is seen around the world to be the most powerful man on Earth. However, many believe that his only real power is the power to persuade. The checks and balances of congress and the Supreme Court over the president are great, and without their support he has relatively little power. A president cannot get any legislation passed if he does not have the support of the senate and or the house of representatives. If a president wanted the US to sign a new treaty, the senate would have to ratify it with a 2/3 majority. If a president wanted new legislation, he must submit it to congress and persuade both houses to vote for it. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The president also has the power to appoint judges at district, appeal and Supreme Court levels. This is argued as an important power, but it has its limits. After the nomination to the supreme court which is the most superior of all courts, has been made, then the senate begins it s confirmation process. If the senate does not reach a simple majority, as seen with Bork for example in 1987. With this in mind, the president s power comes down to one thing: persuasion. This may be done in a variety of ways. The most sucessful way is to telephone individual congressman and try and pursuade them that way. President Raegan was extremely good at this. Another way is helping with legislation, i.e passing one piece of legislation and not vetoing it if congress passes his legislation. A simple trade. However, in actual fact the president has much more than the power to persuade. He has many options in a lot of areas, though one of them is persuasion, and is the main power under the circumstances of late Clinton for example, the others play a major part if a president has control of the senate and or the house of representatives. The most important power a president has is the power to appoint Supreme Court judges. This gives a president the chance to have their image in place for a long period of time, after they are ... Introduction I selected the 1994 film, The Shawshank Redemption, which was directed by Frank Darabont and starred Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The central message of this film is the power of hope. When Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), says to Red (Morgan Freeman) get busy living or get busy dying, he is saying that it is only when you willingly risk everything, that freedom becomes possible. The film, The Shawshank Redemption takes place in the 1940 s and is the story of a Maine banker, Andy Dufresne who is wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover and is sentenced to life imprisonment in Shawshank Penitentiary (Representations of Prison in Nineties Hollywood Cinema). The Body of the Term Project The film talks about the prisoners being institutionalized , and the thought of spending the majority of one s life inside a penitentiary would scare anyone (Politics and Film). There comes a time when a prisoner becomes very accustomed to the life they were living inside prison that they were dreading the day when they had to leave and go back to the society as a reformed person (Politics and Film). In the film, Brooks tried to hurt a fellow prisoner just so he could stay in Shawshank. Each of the prisoners inside Shawshank is locked up metaphorically as well as literally (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). The forms of isolation in Shawshank range from the large, enclosed recreation yard to the small work crews down to the cellblock, cells and solitary confinement literally (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). The bars, strict schedules, heartless prison guards and predatory sisters add a sense of entrapment to the layers of isolation (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). There are also examples of socioeconomic diversity in the film. Andy shares an idea with the prison guards who are unaware of the tax law. • 14. 1000 Words on Accountability Accountability is defined by department of defense as the obligation imposed by a law or lawful order or regulation on an officer or other person for keeping an accurate record of government property, documents or funds. The numerical end product of personnel accountability process reflects the combat power of a unit. So what is Personnel accountability exactly? Personnel accountability is a by name tracking system that manages the duty status and location of every single soldier assigned or attached to a unit. This tracking system also tracks the soldiers as they arrive to the unit, and depart from the unit for duty. Personnel accountability must be maintained at all times, for an inaccurate count will lead to disastrous outcomes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it reflects poorly on the commander in charge of the task. Which leads to punishment of the leadership in charge of the soldiers who did not report and were not accurately accounted for. Accountability for personnel aids in the accessing of a unit s assets and combat readiness is called personnel strength reporting. Personnel strength reporting is a command function that enables a unit as a whole, to analyze the manning levels and readiness to provide commanders with a snapshot of the unit s combat power and capabilities. The formula to achieve a Personnel Strength report is achieved by comparing the by name data obtained during the Personnel accountability process and face it against the specified authorizations to determine the percentage of the slots filled for certain positions within a unit. Even though Strength reporting seems to be only important for the deployment process one has to think of the capabilities of each and every by name soldier within the unit, if the soldiers do not report to training how will they every be prepared for when it comes to combat situations. So therefore even in garrison we need to maintain accurate numbers on the soldiers accounted for. If the numbers are inaccurate in garrison, what is it to say when it comes to combat situations? How will soldiers know how to perform their duties while they are in combat if they did not attend the specified training that is there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Theory Of Inclusive Fitness An oxymoron appeared to exist between Darwin s theory of natural selection (1859) and the definition of altruism (West et al., 2006). Hamilton s theory of inclusive fitness (1964) appeared to mediate this problem. However, the theory does not explain altruistic acts towards non kin in line with natural selection. Reciprocal altruism(Trivers, 1971), indirect altruism (Alexander, 1987) and strong reciprocity (Gintis, 2000) have been proposed to resolve this conflict. It is of note that behaviour in all theories has been noted in animals, but will not be discussed further. Instead, the essay will focus on which theories are most relevant when understanding human sociality, with the author explaining why no sole theory is seen to describe the phenomenon. All theories will be discussed in relation to evolutionary stable strategies (ESS), which refers to plans that when adopted by a majority of members in a population that restrict any other action existing, which could yield higher reproductive success (Smith Price, 1973). Darwin s (1859) theory of natural selection hypothesised that individual s with traits that increased their chance of survival would be more likely to reproduce. Such fitness enhancing genes would thus be passed to their offspring, increasing the trait s frequency in a population. Altruism thus appears to be an oxymoron to Darwin s (1859) theory. West et al. • 16. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Audio Watermarking Abstract: With the increasing usage of digital multimedia, the protection of intellectual property rights problem has become a very important issue. Digital watermarking is now drawing attention as a new method of protecting multimedia content from unauthorized copying. Over the past two decades, many digital watermarkingalgorithms have been developed, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The main aim of this paper is to present a survey report of recently done work in audio watermarkingfields. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LITERATURE SURVEY The audio watermarking has been a hot research area for protection of digital sound content. Many researchers have suggested algorithms for that. Some has also done a good survey of previous work done. That helps fellow researchers to work forward. In [1] Komal et. al presented a survey report on various audio watermarking algorithms. They divided the work into three main categories: spread spectrum algorithm, amplitude modification, replica method, dither watermarking and self marking method. As per the author the spread spectrum method has the problem of synchronisation and time consumed is higher whereas replica is good for synchronisation but echo handling is worst. Amplitude modification method needs large channel capacity and introduces noise too. Overall self marking method is good for synchronisation and robust for watermarking. Ali Al Haj [2] in his paper proposed solution for shortcomings of spread spectrum method is overcome by combining it with singular value decomposition for high rate of robustness. To make it more robust the watermark bits are inserted diagonally into wavelet transformed input audio signals and a controlling gain parameter is introduced. This method also ... They were extremely popular for almost 200 years, and motte castles continued to be built until the 13th century. They were very innovative during the Medieval time period. Motte and bailey castles were hard work to construct and eventually evolved into impressive, more advanced fortresses. The original motte and bailey castles were incredibly cheap to construct. They were built from just earth and wood and didn t require any special design. A wooden keepcalled a motte sat on an elevated bank of soil and overlooked the bailey, an enclosed courtyard. Although some cases consisted of the motte sitting upon a hill, most of the time mottes were on a man made piece of earthwork. Plus, Fools Rush In is my favorite movie so I loved the opportunity to analyze it. I liked writing the paper because I think that it s a topic that a lot of people tend to overlook or think unimportant. The truth is that many people rush in to interracial marriages without stopping to think of the effects on their families. This paper wasn t written to dissuade anyone from marrying someone of a different ethnicity or religion, only to inform them of what could (and does) happen. Fools Rush In starts out comparing the lives of two very different people. Alex Whitman is a white, upper class successful New Yorker who has recently been relocated to Las Vegas. Isabelle Fuentes is a Mexican American woman struggling with her photography career in Las Vegas. They meet by chance in a restaurant and have a one night stand. Three months later, Isabelle interrupts Alex s smooth lifestyle with the announcement that she is pregnant. After meeting Isabelle s very tight knit, very Catholic Hispanic family, Alex decides they should elope. What follows are many comedic scenarios of both people trying to fit in to the other s culture. Real problems arise with topics of race, religion, and location. Each family contributes to the stress of the situation. Isabelle s family thinks that they need to stay in Las Vegas in order to be closer to family, and that the baby s religion has to be Catholic. Alex s family thinks themselves superior over Mexican Americans and thinks that economics is more important than being close to family. Isabelle lies about a miscarriage, and they go their separate ways. The underlying theme of destiny plays a major part in the movie at this time. Alex relies on his faith to bring him back to Isabelle, and they decide that despite their differences, they were meant to be together. The Extinction of Pleistocene Mammals Essay During the late Pleistocene, a mystery occurred in which large mammals went extinct in North America while they survived in other parts of the world. Scientists studying the late Pleistocene extinction provided a plethora of explanations, including overkill by humans, extraterrestrial events, and climate changes (Faith and Surovell, 2009). However, there was no unified explanation that they all agreed upon. Taking note of this, J. Tyler Faith and Todd A. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some scientists have attributed the extinction to an extraterrestrial event. In 2009, another group of scientists found nanodiamonds in the sediment layer dating back to the Younger Dryas a period of glacial dewarming. Because these nanodiamonds needed conditions similar to that of cosmic impacts to form, they concluded that a large group of comets might have impacted the Earth, causing the Pleistocene extinction (Kennett et. al, 2009). Although the research done on late Pleistocene extinctions was extensive, the conclusions for these explanatory models contradicted one another. Amid these conclusions, Faith and Surovell derived their question from the fact that one cannot develop explanations for this phenomenon without knowing whether the extinction was a long term process or a single event. They hypothesized that the extinction during the North American late Pleistocene was a single event that occurred between 12,000 and 10,000 radiocarbon years B.P. (Faith and Surovell, 2009). In order to test their hypothesis, they created a statistical test. The statistical test used data of the occurrences of the fossils of extinct Pleistocene mammals in layers of rock and terminal Pleistocene radiocarbon dates for a given taxon, or taxon dates.
