HOW DO CHILDREN LEARN THEIR MOTHER
TONGUE?
 Continuous listening from birth
 Parents encourage the child
 Repetition, never forget the first word, use it again
and again
 Learn words at an increasing speed
 Single words, sentences, stories...
 Do not read until later
THE MOTHER TONGUE METHOD APPLIED TO
MUSIC
 Start young
 Continuous listening to material
 Watch other children before they start
 Parents come to all classes, take notes, practice with
children and create nurturing atmosphere at home
 Both private lessons and group lessons
 Constant repetion and review
 Music reading taught when technique is secure
SUZUKI TEACHING
 Lenght of lessons depends on the child
 The speed of learning depends on the child
 Children learn by imitation- through their senses
 Suzuki‘s tonalization is essential
 Focus on one point
