5. What do we do?
We plant
TREES
to offset CO2
as the world
travels.
6. Whatâs the Problem?
Travel & Climate Change
⢠Now more than ever, we need to take into consideration the sensitive
link between travel and the environment.
⢠#flightshame & covid-19 highlighted travelâs environmental impact.
⢠Current CO2 offset programs are complicated, poorly marketed and
poorly understood, and can be expensive.
⢠Climate crisis terminology inducing fear & guilt create apathy towards
action & progress.
⢠For a sustainable future, we must adopt a different mindset, and now.
7. Whatâs the CO2 situation today?
We are already way beyond safe
levels of CO2 in our atmosphere.
In 2021, we will reach levels 50%
higher than pre-industrial concentrations.
How is CO2 produced?
⢠Carbon dioxide (CO2) is added to the atmosphere by
human activities. When we burn fuels like wood, coal, natural
gas, gasoline, and oil, carbon dioxide is released. During this
burning, carbon from the fossil fuels combine with oxygen in the
air to form carbon dioxide and water vapor.
⢠CO2 in the atmosphere then traps heat & makes global
temperatures rise. Earth's global average surface temperature
in 2020 was one of the warmest years on record. As levels
rise, floods, droughts, storms & crop failures intensify.
⢠To reduce these levels, we must slow down our consumption,
cut our emissions, and draw existing carbon out of the
atmosphere, we need to restore the planetâs natural balance.

8. The CO2 Culprits
Our actions, at home, at work,
as we travel consume energy &
produce CO2 emissions
⢠It is clear that power generation, deforestation and road
transport are the worst offenders.
⢠Reducing our emissions and drawing existing carbon out of
the atmosphere is a priority, it will require massive efforts from
many different sectors, with a combination of approaches.
⢠Tourism accounts for 8% of annual global CO2
emissions, 3% of which is from air travel.
⢠Travel is a comparatively small contributor, however travel has
high value transactions where offsetting is a relatively small
percentage of the transaction value.
⢠Whilst reducing CO2 is important there is a safe level that we
can achieve quite easily and simply. Itâs all about balance!

9. What is Earth Overshoot Day?
Earth Overshoot Day 1970 to 2020
⢠When there is balance, the Earth does a great
job at absorbing most of our CO2 emissions.
⢠Earthâs overshoot day marks the date
when humanity has exhausted natureâs
budget for the year.
⢠But, it has been struggling to keep up.
⢠Due to the world pandemic, 2020 was the
first time there was a reduction of - 7%
10. Climate Change â Itâs time to act
Working Together
⢠No one country, leader, company or individual can solve the
climate crisis alone â impactful climate action is required in
multiple sectors â itâs now time to all work together.
⢠Climate change is affecting lives all over the world, with
more and more extreme weather events., causing severe
flooding, forest fires - destroying our homes, livelihoods and
environnement.
⢠While the scientists and engineers of the world work on
better solutions for transport and energy, we can start the
process towards positive change through mindful
actions and mindful travel.
⢠Trees4Travel offers a simple, natural, yet powerful way to
help offset emissions and feel a tangible contribution to a
better safer world.
11. Whatâs our mission?
Harmonizing
Business Travel
with the Environment
⢠Travel produces vast amounts of CO2 and although technology
is improving efficiency, emissions are still increasing.
⢠Educating travelers on sustainability, engaging them in planting
projects & focusing on the many positive benefits is key.
⢠Our mission is to harmonize travel with the environment
through clear, positive, engaging travel and environmental
messaging with tangible results.
The Future is Mindful Business Travel
.
12. Working together & shared goals
Committed To Improving The Planet
The Trillion Tree
Community
⢠Trees4Travel is part of the World Economic Forumâs
community-driven initiative led by the United Nations
Environment Program to ensure the conservation &
restoration of one trillion trees within this decade.
⢠As one of the largest industries in the world, the Travel
Industry has the ability to deliver massive, urgently
needed progress against climate change through natural
biodiverse and sustainable development goals.
13. Why Trees?
Trees are the
Best Carbon
Technology
To combat carbon emissions, forest
restoration is âoverwhelmingly more
powerful than all of the other climate
change solutionsâ
Prof. Dr. Thomas Ward Crowther is a British scientist specialising in
ecosystem ecology and the chief scientific advisor to the
UN's Trillion Tree Campaign.
SIMPLE - IMPACTFUL - AFFORDABLE
⢠Scientists âknow of no other current
carbon drawdown solution that is
quantitatively as large in terms of
carbon capture.â (Source Science May 2020)
⢠There used to be 6 trillion trees on Earth,
today only about 3 trillion trees remain
and despite human activities such as
agriculture and urbanisation we still have
900 million hectares of tree restoration
potential in the world.
⢠Currently, tree planting is considered to be
one of the most cost effective methods
of offsetting CO2.
14. Approximate CO2 Absorption - Sapling to Tree

⢠Trees absorb (sequester) CO2 by storing the carbon in their trunks,
branches & roots, and release the oxygen back into the air that we breathe.
⢠CO2 sequestration & growth rates depend on the tree species & location.
⢠Our example below is based on a typical hard wood tree.

Our current forest is an Amazonian conservation project of 40,000 hectares in Acre, Brazil which is validated to a gold level for climate adaptation, as well
as delivering exceptional community and biodiversity benefits, conserving several vulnerable tree species along with numerous bird species. This land was
previously going to be cleared for livestock rearing, however this project is now establishing alternative economic activities for the local communities
including commercializing the collection of medicinal plants and acai (ah-sigh-EE) berries, a superfood, grape-like fruit.

17. How & where do we plant?
The Tree Projects
Our tree planting ethos is based on key
objectives :
⢠working closely with verified tree
planting organisations from around the
world who are experts in their local
environments, involving local
communities and all stakeholders
⢠we plant a variety of tree species that
are indigenous to a region to maximise
biodiversity and restore natural
ecosystems.

28. Sustainable Travel Community
Sharing
Responsibility
⢠We are creating a collaboration of travel suppliers at every
touchpoint of a journey - from TMC to ground transport, to
airports & airlines to hotels & rental accommodation.
⢠Corporates can purchase trees through their TMC to share
responsibility.
⢠Partners can help by allowing travelers to exchange loyalty
points for trees.
⢠Enabling a shared responsibility between the traveler & each
supplier of a trip, ensuring all are on the same page, helping
towards the same goal of carbon neutrality.
29. Airlines Impact
Airline Offsets
⢠4.3 billion airline passengers per year (2019)
⢠880 billion kilos of CO2 produced by air travel (2019)
⢠If passengers purchase just 1.5 trees each time they fly, air
transport could be neutral within 10 years, in fact NEGATIVE after
that, pulling more CO2 out of the air than emitted.
⢠Trees keep absorbing as more flights are made and as more trees
are planted - there will be a point in time when there is more
CO2 being offset than created.

30. Trains
The Most
Sustainable Travel
⢠Travelling 1,000 miles by train produces 41 kgs of
CO2 per passenger.
⢠Rail Transport is currently the most environment -
friendly way to travel other than cycling or walking.
⢠A typical train line can carry 50,000 people per
hour. Compare this with a motorway, which can
move only 2,500 people per hour.

⢠If you travel 1,000 miles by car alone, you would emit
275 kgs of CO2.
⢠1 tree will offset the CO2 from 200 miles of trips â
costing less than a penny per mile.
Motor Vehicle Offsets

32. ⢠Travel needs a new âgreenâ focus - a focus that is integral to health,
wellbeing and the planet.
⢠We are beyond safe levels of carbon in our atmosphere.
⢠The United Nations has stated that we have 10 years to fix this.
⢠Reforestation is overwhelmingly more powerful than all other climate
change solutions.
⢠72% of travelers believe we need to act now and make sustainable travel
