The survey asked participants several questions about music videos and genres. Nearly half of respondents said a good storyline makes a music video interesting and memorable. Most participants' favorite genre was rock/pop, which includes indie music. Responses for favorite music video ranged from recent artists like LMFAO to classic artists like Michael Jackson. Common features identified as stereotypically indie in music videos included fashion and costume choices as well as storylines that match song lyrics.

2. ‘ In your opinion, what makes a music video interesting and memorable?’ For this question we managed to receive a wide range of responses including anything from ‘interesting characters’, a ‘good storyline’ and some humour thrown in. Out of all the people who answered our questionnaire, nearly half of them mentioned having a good storyline making an interesting and memorable music video and so we feel confident about having a storyline already thought out for our production.

3. ‘ What is your favourite genre of music?’ This question was asking the participants what their favourite type of music was. 63.6% of them said their favourite music was Rock/Pop. Indie falls into this category of music making it appear to be a popular choice of people our age group. R&B and Easy listening were the next most popular results while metal and other didn’t get any votes.

4. ‘ What is your favourite music video of all time and why?’ This question also received mixed responses from the participants from LMFAO , a very recent American electro hop duo, to Michael Jackson, the king of pop. The Killers came up a couple of times who are a very popular, well recognised indie band along with Coldplay.

5. We have a wide range of answers for this question. We can look at these answers and then look at the artists music videos of these artists and look to see what features they have used in their music videos. The Vaccines (our chosen music video artist) has also come up in our results which proves it is popular and classed in the indie/rock category. ‘ We have chosen to do an indie rock music video, who is your favourite indie artist?’

6. ‘ What is your favourite indie music video?’ This is also useful for planning our own music video. We each watched some of the videos suggested here by people who took or survey and looked at factors like mise-en-scene, props, costume, lighting, location etc.

7. ‘ What features of the music video you have chosen is stereotypically indie?’ Common answers that have come up in response to this question show that the costume and fashion sense is an important part of being stereotypically indie and making this genre easily recognisable. Other answers include a strong storyline that matches the lyrics of the song and ‘dark and dull’ lighting although this might not be the case for our song as it is an upbeat, happy song.
