3. Summarization is one of the most underused teaching strategies we have today,yet research has shown that it yields some of the greatest leaps in comprehension and long-term retention of information .

To effectively delete, substitute, and keep information, students must analyze the information at a fairly deep level. Being aware of the explicit structure of information is an aid to summarizing.
