What is Success Planning?
Definition
The Success Planning tools in Naviance allow
students to set goals and school/district staff
members to create tangible, action-oriented, and
personalized plans that focus students on the future.
Students can contribute to this plan by creating to-
dos, creating goals, and marking items as
completed.
Success Planning Components
Tasks - A single assignment/activity either built-in or
custom created by school/district staff and assigned
to multiple or individual students.	
  
	
  
Programs - A group of tasks created by	
  
school/district that can be assigned to students.	
  
	
  
Goals - Created by student in a category created by	
  
school/district staff.	
  
	
  
To-Dos - Created by student and can be associated	
  
with a goal or a task.
Getting Started with Success Planner
Identify District/School Goals
●  Do you have a mission statement/vision?
●  What activities are realistic for your counselors/
teachers to complete with students?
●  What types of reporting are you hoping to get out
of Naviance?
●  Do you have mandates you are trying to meet
using Naviance (state mandates, LCAP goals,	
  
etc.)?
Set Parameters Around Goals
●  Specify activities in key areas: career planning,
college planning/applications, course planning.
●  Set due dates: when should these items be

Creating Programs/Tasks
●  Based on the goals and parameters identified,
create new tasks and adjust current tasks to
match
●  Group the tasks into Programs. Ex:

○  10th Grade Program: Complete SE, Add Careers
○  11th Grade Program: Complete College SuperMatch
○  12th Grade Program: Add Colleges to the List I’m

Definition The Success Planning tools in Naviance allow students to set goals and school/district staff members to create tangible, action-oriented, and personalized plans that focus students on the future. Students can contribute to this plan by creating to- dos, creating goals, and marking items as completed.
  • 6. Success Planning Components Tasks - A single assignment/activity either built-in or custom created by school/district staff and assigned to multiple or individual students.     Programs - A group of tasks created by   school/district that can be assigned to students.     Goals - Created by student in a category created by   school/district staff.     To-Dos - Created by student and can be associated   with a goal or a task.

Identify District/School Goals ●  Do you have a mission statement/vision? ●  What activities are realistic for your counselors/ teachers to complete with students? ●  What types of reporting are you hoping to get out of Naviance? ●  Do you have mandates you are trying to meet using Naviance (state mandates, LCAP goals,   etc.)?
