We’re helping schools to close the gap between college eligibility and college readiness
Every high school graduate is technically eligible for post-secondary education. Close the gap between students who are eligible for post-secondary education or a career path, and those who are ready to succeed
We believe that students should have the opportunity to choose their own path so that they are ready to succeed in whatever path they choose by the time they leave 12th grade.
We’re aiming to help schools close the gap between what students aspire to accomplish and what they actually achieve.
Students have high aspirations, and yet many are not actually reaching their goals.
While 93% of middle school students state that college is their goal, only 44% of those students actually enroll.
We see low completion rates across two- and four-year colleges.
Globally, only 1/3 of students will ever graduate college
In the United States, of those that go to college, 1/3 will never graduate
An in 2-year colleges, 50% of students require remediation
A major contributing factor is declining engagement as students progress through school
Many students do not see the relevance of school to their futures. They are asking, how will school help me reach my goals?
If students are not engaged, there is little chance that they will be motivated to put forth their best efforts
When schools focus on student strengths and students have at least one teacher that makes them excited about the future, they are 30x more likely to be engaged in school
A one-percentage-point increase in student engagement is correlated with a 6 percentage point increase in reading achievement and an 8 percentage point increase in math achievement.
Many schools are focused on raising test scores and improving academic achievement. Research shows that that starts by helping students se how their education will help them reach their goals.
Gallup has shown that when you start with strengths, you impact engagement, and ultimately impact outcomes.
This can be a challenge when student to counselor ratios are so high. This ratio is higher in many districts
It’s critical to provide resources for students and families to discover educational and career options. With this information, students can discover paths that get them excited about the future. With the right tools, counselors can be empowered to maximize their effectiveness in supporting students’ reaching their goals.
This is especially true given the New Reality of education…(next slide)
Who are they? What do they want? How can we help them along the way? What are we doing today to serve our students? What impact are we trying to make? How can we scale what works to reach more students, more effectively? How can we get insight into what’s working and what’s not so that we can be more effective as an institution?

Naviance: This is the core set of tools and functionality that all schools have access to when they purchase.
Additional Products: These are our products. Each of these is purchased at an additional cost to a school. Naviance for Districts is only sold to districts; the schools within the districts would have Naviance. Additional reports, district surveying, and management of Success Planning are among the options available within Naviance for Districts.
Naviance Marketplace: We partner with third party vendors to provide additional tools to schools to enhance the Naviance platform and provide more resources to students. These paid services are in addition to other partners that exist in Naviance (Gallup, RTN).
What are some of your top priorities?
Dormant Data: A major pain point for schools is data that is collected but not used to help students. With Naviance, data about students’ interests and aspirations can lead to a meaningful dialogue with a teacher or counselor. With Naviance Alumni Tracker, schools can correlate college enrollment outcomes with specific student groups in Naviance. For instance, schools can answer if students enrolled in AVID enroll in college at a higher rate.
Students are provided with the tools to help with academic, career, and college readiness
Now we’re working even harder to bridge the gapEvent matching has allowed us to use our place in both the higher ed and k-12 space to enhance the college planning experience.
Naviance for Elementary
Naviance allowed Union Mine High School near Sacramento to develop a comprehensive and developmental guidance program that:
Effectively met student needs for career and college planning.
Provided counselors with a wealth of student information regarding student goals, aspirations, and interests (which greatly lent to more powerful individual counselor meetings with students and parents).
Provided a means by which families could see what their students were exploring and planning for as related to post-secondary plans.
Like many districts across the United States, Adams 12 was faced with meeting a Colorado state mandate requiring students to create and manage an Individual Career & Academic Plan (ICAP).
But their results went far beyond just satisfying the state mandate
Since implementing Naviance in 2010, the district increased its graduation rate by 12 percent, and data collected through Naviance helped the district justify spending to restore counseling positions that had been lost due to budget cuts.
