  2. 2. Key Presenters Profile , Dr. Jay Dostal is the Principal of Kearney High School in Kearney, NE. He was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and is a graduate of Omaha Westside High School. His undergraduate degree was obtained at the University of Nebraska at Kearney where he earned teaching endorsements in English and Physical Education. Additionally, Dr. Dostal earned his Master of Science and Doctorate degrees in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Nebraska. His dissertation work was a comparative efficacy study that compared student achievement results for students in a block schedule to those in a traditional seven-period schedule. 2
  3. 3. Key Presenters Profile , Stephanie Calato has been a school counselor and Director of College Counseling for the past ten years at a private school in Rockford, Illinois. She earned a master's degree in Human Services/Counseling and her certification includes being a licensed counselor in private practice. As a college counselor, her goal is to help students to understand who they are as individuals and how their personality, strengths, learning style and values can help guide them to make informed decisions about colleges and careers. With a team of faculty advisers, Naviance Curriculum is used for the entire 6-12 grade school where she serves. 3

  7. 7. RCS is a private, Christian school in Rockford, Illinois serving 1250 students pre-k through high school Rockford Christian School 7 Challenges faced prior to implementing Naviance Curriculum • Did not have a comprehensive, scalable curriculum for school counseling. • Lack of staff resources to create program. • Needed curriculum for Friday Adviser Group Program.

  9. 9. Kearney High School 9 Our Key Takeaways • Sequential nature of lessons was very good • Would like to have the flexibility to move lessons around • Start slow. Don’t try to do everything at once • Kid friendly and easy to use. • Career education needs to start at the middle school level
  10. 10. Rockford Christian School 10 Our Key Takeaways • Adviser Group Implementation. Students worked through the curriculum with faculty advisers. • Group time consisted of Naviance videos, large group discussion and in-class writing reflections. • Booklets. We created student booklets so that students could write and elaborate on the Naviance lesson. Our school does not have 1 to 1 devices or lab space for the entire 6-12 school.
