Sensors Allocation Fault
Introduction
Background
A wireless sensor network (WSN) consists of distributed sensors to monitor environmental
conditions such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or detect dimensions, to pass
their data through the network to a base station for processing. Advantages of WSN over a wired
system considered in elimination of wiring cost, sensors can be installed in harsh environments.
Each sensor node is a combination of Radio transceiver with an internal antenna or connection to an
external antenna micro controller, electronic circuit for interfacing with the sensors, energy source,
usually a battery or an embedded form of energy harvesting. Drawback of using sensors is having
limited power to consume, a memory that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this solution is not optimal neither it is minimal. To provide a better solution a
collaboration of different parameter sensors is used to both minimize and optimize sensor usage.
Figure 2 describes a 3 axis graph of the boxes, the x axis is dimension, the y axis is the color and
the z axis is the weight. Figure 2a, 2b and 2c maps objects by the x y, y z and x z respectively.
There 11 different possible sensor positions using the 3 parameters shown in a light grey dashed
line on figure 2 graphs. Using the code described in section 3, the solution set resulted in using a
total of 3 sensors (d3, w1, c2) shown on a solid line in figure 2 graphs. This subset of sensors
happens to be both the optimal and minimal solution.
Proposed solution:
The following section describes the code developed to find an optimal sensor solution. The first
step is to consider the cost of each sensor used. The minimal sensor subset is the set with the
lowest cost. The equation [1] describes the cost of the sensor, which simply is the summation of
each of the used sensors. As described previously, most sensors used in this technique are simple
and there is no significant difference in their cost. Thereby since sensors of different parameter are
of the same cost, it is more effective to consider the

Main Components Of The Cleveland College Information Systems
Main components of the Cleveland College information systems
Hardware:
The main pieces of hardware that is identified in this study include the desktop computers that is
used by the staff, the four servers that are used for storing data and running the networks, as well as
the fifteen laser printers that are plotted throughout the school that are shared by the staff.
Cleveland College has an internet intranet that students are able to login and access information
provided by their teachers, and an external website which is publically available over the internet,
they have also been given an ultrafast broadband connection due to being linked up to the National
Education Network (NEN). All full time teachers are also issued with a laptop by the Ministry of
Education.
Software:
At present the college has a management system for altering the students records, timetabling,
financial systems and for general use in the office, as well as a learning management system to help
with their teaching. This system contains learning materials that they can make available to the
students if needed. There is also a spreadsheet that is generally used by the financial officer to
record all their spending and keep receipts. The desktop computers run the standard Microsoft
Office suite, which means that the college has general software for word processing, making
powerpoints, and other learning means.
Data:
There are multiple points where data enters the Cleveland College information systems.

Facial Recognition Pros And Cons
Facial recognition is a technological product of the digital age that is continuing to evolve. The
efficiency of the technology is an asset to crime detectives apprehending criminals, or the
government tracking suspected terrorists for the safety of the country. It can also be used on a
corporate level to allow a business to understand their ideal customer, or to increase the
intractability of their website. While these abilities are positives to the people using them, the data
collection may be harming more than it is helping. Considering the benefits of facial recognition, it
is important for people to see what they are giving up for a more efficient experience. Facial
recognition technology forces users to relinquish control of their own... Show more content on

Over the course of this past year, body cameras are becoming increasingly popular with police
officers in the United States. This is in response to the public s outrage with unlawful police
force. Recently, companies that manufacture such bodycams announced plans to include facial
recognition software. The data collected from the cameras would be in the hands of the police for
a minimum of 18 months, depending on the incident recorded (Chapman). While this could
initially be seen as a positive method to identifying and arresting an active suspect, there is a
question of privacy of control when it comes to this matter. This is an invasion of privacy for the
citizens caught on camera that are not involved in an incident nor have a criminal record. These
cameras are often worn during protests, both peaceful and not, capturing everyday citizens
speaking their thoughts and ideas. A concern that exists is if the police will use the data collected
from the cameras to unlawfully monitor participants (Chapman). This would inevitably discourage
participation in these gatherings and take control from peaceful citizens and give too much control
to police officers. There is also no guarantee that the footage will not be used for other purposes
that the public is not yet aware of. There is no U.S. federal law at the moment that directly protects
the privacy of American citizens from the potential surveillance using facial recognition,
(Chapman). The fact that there is no balancing system for the rights of United States citizens may
lead law enforcement to take advantage of their freedom and use the technology inappropriately and
excessively. The development of this technology is growing so quickly that legislature has not

Organizational Systems Theory And The Macro System
Organisational Systems Theory
The macro system is the most prominent and significant theory. The macro system consists of all
the variables in any society. Bronfenbrenner (1979) described the macro system as, The macro
system refers to the consistency observed within a given culture or subculture in the form and
content of its constituent micro , meso , and exosystems, as well as any belief systems or ideology
underlying such consistencies (p. 258). The macro system consists of the following six super
systems, globalisation, government, economy, family, religion and media. These six super systems
all influence the daily life of individuals and contribute to the incidence of drug use in Australia.
The government needs to try to control the incidence of drug use in society. There needs to be
more legislation against the use of drugs and harsher penalties for those caught using drugs.
Globalisation has caused changes in the economy, with changes in trade, money and the mixing of
cultures. With the changes in the economy it has made it harder for some people to survive, as
almost everything has had a dramatic increase in price. This has caused people to turn to dealing
drugs to make money and also turn to using drugs to feel less stress and worry.
Ludwig von Bertalanffy, an Austrian biologist, was the founder of general systems theory.
According to Robbins, Bergman, Stagg Coulter (2008) a system is defined as, a set of interrelated
and interdependent parts arranged in a

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her song ***Flawless, the speech ends with the definition of a
feminist. Feminist: a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the
sexes. As the definition states a feminist is someone who strives for equality, not superiority, and is
not just limited to women. Above all feminist are people who continue their fight no matter who or
what stands in their way. Feminismas a concept dates back to the nineteenth and early twentieth

not make me any less of a feminist. And the female domination is just not feminism. By
definition feminist are fighting for equality not superiority, that is misandry. Misandrist are
simply people who are prejudice against men, like misogynist are prejudice to women. As
feminist we we be completely hypocritical to hate men, because we are working towards equality.
We have to fight to stop both the misogynist and the misandrists. Because of these untrue
stereotypes a lot of women are unaware that they are feminist. And those that are are sometimes
scared to admit their identity because of the reactions we get. When I was in high school I
decided to write an article about double standards in the music industry. When I pitched it to my

Long Beach Erosion
Throughout history, the coastline of Sandy Bay has been subject to erosion. The areas focussed
on in this study are Nutgrove and Long Beach. Erosion was first documented in this area in
1813. Sea level rise and the increase in the frequency and severity of weather events is currently
having an impact on the land cover of both Nutgrove and Long Beach and this is erosion is likely
to increase as time passes and climate change progresses.
In an attempt to combat erosion and interest more people in visiting this area an ongoing project
has been implemented along Long Beach and Nutgrove Beach. The project aims to reduce the
rate of erosion and make the area a desirable place for people to visit for many years to come. One
of the most recent additions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along Nutgrove Beach vegetation management has been implemented to prevent and reduce future
erosion. This has been done by planting plants in the dunes in the hope of the plants trapping the
sand and preventing further erosion. As well as vegetation management to protect the dunes, a
fence has also been assembled in front of the dunes to prevent people from accessing the dunes and
causing further erosion to the dunes and damaging the vegetation. This has been successful and has
significantly reduced the extent of the erosion of the sand dunes at Nutgrove Beach.
Around the foreshore of both Long Beach and Nutgrove Beach, rocks have been added to the
foreshore to prevent further erosion of the beach. This has been successful in reducing the amount
of sand that is drawn out to sea.
The waves flowing up onto the beach have caused sand to wash up into the areas where there are
stairs coming down from the seawall. This clearly highlights the force of the waves and the
movement of the sand that is occurring as a

Blade Faults in Gas Turbines
Gas turbines are often exposed to ingestion of particles suspended in the air such as dust, ash, salt,
ice, water droplets, and sand particles during operation. These particles are the most important
factor that cause blade fault in all types of gas turbines. The most common types of blade fault are
fouling, erosion, tip clearance increase, water ingestion, and foreign object damage (FOD) [1].
Most of mentioned cases cause roughness over the blade surfaces that deteriorate the gas turbine
performance. Different numerical methods were used to solve the gas turbine cascade flow field
in recent years. In most of these studies, the quasi three dimensional Navier Stokes analysis is
used. On the other hand, in some studies the flow fields were experimentally tested. Sheets of
sandpaper with different equivalent sand grain roughness heights have been used by researchers to
produce roughness on surface of gas turbine blades placed in a wind tunnel and applying flow
conditions of their case.
1.1 Experimental work
Yun et al. [2] used sheets of sandpapers with equivalent sand grain roughness heights of 106 and
400 micrometers. The performance tests have been conducted in a low speed, single stage, axial
flow turbine having roughened blades. They showed that for blades with roughnesses of the fully
rough regime (400 ), the normalized efficiency decreases by 11 percent for stator vanes and 8
percent for rotor blades. For blades having a roughness in the transitionally rough regime (106

The Legend Of King Arthur And Le Morte DArthur
Has a book or movie given enjoyment through a hard time? Thomas Malory and Terry Gilliam
have opposing writing styles as a result of the context they wrote their texts in. Thomas Malory,
author of Le Morte d Arthur, writes his book as a compilation of tales and Terry Gilliam writes
his version as a script for a movie. While both Gilliam and Malory use an episodic narrative,
Gilliam writes his movie as a parody to mock old England and other versions of the Legend of
King Arthur, and Malory uses his book as a story that includes immense details about a legend.
While Le Morte d Arthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grailboth share a common plot, the
works differ on intended purpose and tone. The audiences each author tries to appease changes
each author s writing style; Thomas Malory is trying to appease a fifteenth century audience who
is traumatized by numerous uprisings and despair due to a history of atrocious kings, while Terry
Gilliamis trying to entertain a more modern audience that wants a humorous and satirical
movie. The intended purpose of each of the authors, differ in that each are delivering their works to
a situationally different audience. In the fifteenth century, when Le Morte d Arthur was written,
people were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after a history of tyrannical
kings. Even so, one of the worst Kings of England ever was King Richard III who was reigning
just as the book was written. Although King Richard was not the

Teenage And Teenage Driving
Indiana Teenage Driving Teenage driving in the United States has been a large controversial topic
over the years. In the state of Indiana, anyone of fifteen and a half to sixteen may obtain a driving
permit. Indiana recommends early drivers to enroll in the driver education programs to learn the
skills of driving. Young people have created a series of issues that give good reasons to increase the
driver s license age. Underage drunk drivingis a huge discussion in larger cities and the youth have
more access to liquor. According to Robert Little and Kenneth Clontz, Fatal vehicular accidents

Driving instructors, throughout the country, should start to emphasis the importance of
drinking and how hazardous it is. Educating people about the consequences to drunk driving
should be discussed so that it may change the minds of younger people throughout the country.
Even with educating young drivers about drinking and driving, there will be some teens that
still drink and drive. The majority of teenagers in car crashes are caused because of teenage
drunk driving. Young drivers do not realize that not only drinking and driving is dangerous for
them, but also other driver s lives would be in danger too. In Young, Drunk, Dangerous, and
Driving: Underage Drinking and Driving Research Findings points out that 50% have
consumed alcohol while in the act of driving and almost seven of every ten youth have driven a
car after having consumed a couple of drinks (39). With this in mind Indiana, enforcements have
cracked down on drunk drivers trying to eliminate most of them off the road. In the state of
Indiana, the protocols for police officers have the authority to pull over any suspicious drunk
drivers. Positive test results in drunk driving could lead to serious disciplinary actions, especially
for young drivers. You are considered to be over the limit in Indiana if you have a BAC of at least

The Ideology Of Slavery By Drew Gilpin Faust
In The Ideology of Slavery by Drew Gilpin Faust, in Chapter 4 which is James Henry Hammond
that writes a letter to an English Abolitionist, in a section he describes how he believes that
Slavery is not a sin and is approved by Christ. It would seem that while God commanded Moses
to free his people that were slaves to the Pharaoh, man is overlooking these in the Bible and that
they are creating their own law and how their religion differs totally by what they do. I think, then,
I may safely conclude, and I firmly believe, that American Slaveryis not only not a sin, but
especially commanded by God through Moses, and approved by Christ through his apostles (Faust
175). When reasoning between what is right and wrong, Americans only found that what they were
doing was not necessarily evil or wrong just that God permitted it, and also white Americans found
slavery to be very significant for their own lives, due to the fact that their way of making money
and making a living involved the owning of humans to make themselves the most profitable.
While Slavery was against humanity and Abolitionists who believed in abolition of the practice
of slavery, the South had their own reasons why slavery was needed in America and how
basically they supported pro slavery. For instance, some arguments for slavery were, Sudden end
to the slave economy would have had a profound and killing economic impact in the South where
reliance on slave labor was the foundation of their economy. If all

Ancient Greek Art
Throughout the Ancient Greek history the numerous works of art were produced by the ancient
Athenians that are still trending in twenty first century. Ancient Greeks demonstrated their
valuable artistic skills in various fields. Every piece that was created by Ancient Greeks was
more than art, their artistic skills were not only based on visual beautifulness, but on storytelling
also. Ancient Greeks created their works of art as bearers of meaning by giving too much detail
to the form and to the decorations to transmit messages. Type of art that I found quite distinctive
was pottery. These clay forms were more than just plates, vases and water jugs. They were like
canvases for painting on such everyday objects the artist told legends of warriors and gods.
Greek pottery is a general term and could be divided into many works of art. However, the
specific pottery that will be used as an example is Ancient Greek vase Lekythos. By analyzing
different depicted images on these works of art and understanding the painter s messages we
could get a little taste of Ancient Greek culture and the lifestyle of its people. Lekythos is a type
of ancient Greek vessel that was used to store oil at bath, gymnasiums and for funerary offerings.
Lekythos has a narrow body with a handle at the neck of the vessel. It seems as though the
Athenians used a term to mean a small oil flask . The lekythos were used to store all types of oil,
but especially an olive oil. Olive oil had a special

The Ownership of Time Warner
In 50 s, there are over 500 media companies in America, but through many integrations, there are
only 6 major media institutions in America and they dominate nearly 98% of the market in
America. The media monopoly written by Ben Bagdikian in 1983 criticized that the concentration
of the media institution in America is fundamentally anti democratic.
Moreover, In the process of globalisation, people of different countries are becoming world
audiences . The demands for media texts produced by these 6 media institutions are increasing. For
example, In Hong Kong, most of the foreign films shown in cinema are produced from Hollywood.
And the programmes of the popular paid TV channels are bought from these 6 major media
institution such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the above, it is shown that Time Warneris a very powerful media institution which holds all
kind of media. It possibly has great influences in the local US. Firstly, Ben Bagdikian stated that an
impressive picture of diversity that there are different kinds of publishing imprints in the market is
created. Consumers seem to have many selections. But actually, consumers have limited choices
only because many of them are owned by Time Warner and they may consist of similar ideologies
of the institution. Consumers are possibly imbued with the ideologies of Time Warner.
Secondly, Bagdikian questioned the editorial independence because editors may be required to
protect interests of the mother company. For example, a film produced by the studio of Time
Warner is commented from the public in both positive and negative sides. the editor or even the
executive of the magazines of the Time Warner would concern the interests of the Time Warner.
Hence only the positive comments may be selected to inform but neglect the negative comments in
order not to affect the box office. From the above case, the information informed to the public may
not reflect the real case.
Finally, concentrated media ownership can create strong political influences. The owners of the
media institution can also have direct control of over media products in order to create political
influence by promoting ideas that enhance their interests. For example, Time magazine

#8216;Hdi Is a Composite Index That Is a Far Better...
Studying development is essentially about measuring how developed one country is compared to
other countries or to the same country in the past. It is common knowledge that each country is
aiming to be defined as developed. For us is to determine which measure is a better representative
of how country is developed HDI or GNP per capita.
Firstly, we will define what economic development is. Secondly we will compare Gross National
Product and Gross Domestic Product. Thirdly, we will outline the problems with these indicators.
Finally, we will try to find out whether HDI is a solution to the problems identified in GNP/GDP.
What is economic development?

On the other hand we have real GNP which measures the value of output in two or more different
years by valuing the goods and services adjusted for inflation.
Problems with GNP/GDP
GNP is merely a gross measure of market activity which counts only money transactions and
excludes goods and services (like taking care, cleaning, food preparation) that people provide
each other free. In terms of developed economies like United Kingdom it would not be a huge
difference, however in less developed countries much of its production takes place in the household
economy like growing crops and farming animals for the purpose of the household not selling.
Therefore it would not be included in countries GNP/GDP.
The World Bank itself recognizes many of these problems. Although they reflect the average
incomes in a country, GNP per capita and GDP per capita have numerous limitations when it
comes to measuring people #8217;s actual well being. Taking as example countries which dig oil,
where sheikhs earn millions and other live in poverty, the GNP per capita will count them equal
dividing their income and not showing how equitably income is distributed.
They do not account for pollution, environmental degradation, and resource depletion. As a result
of the problems outlined above, much of GDP can be composed of: fixing

Vita Nova Trinity Number 19 Analysis
The Vita Nova has many symbolic themes throughout its structure such as the words vita and nova
themselves. In both Italian and English, vita refers to life and nova in Italian refers to marvelous or
strange, however in English, it refers to brightness (of light). Another symbol in the poem is the
Trinity number nine as Dante refers to it every time he has an encounter with Beatrice. In this essay,
because Vita Nova has 42 chapters, I will discuss how Beatrice represents (and/or mirrors) light
throughout chapters 2 8 (with the definition of Trinity mentioned in chapter 29), through Dante s
actual sight and uncontrollable dreams. Dante s muse represents light in chapter two because she

day, three o clock in the afternoon (III, 2). Although this is the chapter when Beatrice finally

powerful figure holding his muse in one hand and forcing her to eat a burning object in another

lord...look into your heart. In other words, the figure represents light itself (as God) since he
claimed to be the lord and because he came from a cloud the color of fire (III, 3). Beatrice
represents light because the figure forcibly fed her the burning object, Dante s heart, thus, giving
her the ability to see through Dante s most secret chamber as mentioned in chapter two. Although
one can argue that since this human like figure uses force against Beatrice and comes in the form
of a fiery cloud, this figure can be mistaken as a Demon; however, because both the figure and
Beatrice ascent toward the heavens (III, 7), it supports my argument that the figure is actually light

Stereotypes Of Women In Video Games
Throughout the years, society has become more accepting of diverse topics and ideas. As society
continues to evolve, numerous entertainments have turned to displaying a greater amount of
minority groups. Although movies and television shows are rapidly progressing towards this trend,
video games seem to be cautiously starting to accept these ideas. Most of the advertising in video
games are promoted towards the male population. Despite the fact men have previously been the
dominant demographic in this type of entertainment, women have increasingly become a major part
of the video gameaudience. In creating video games in which portray the opposite genderin a
realistic way is beneficial to not only the female players but also to the male. It is important to
promote the creation of gender appropriate video games due to it decreasing the amount of
sexualization and violence against women which assists in women s self confidence and men s
treatment towards women.
Although the video game industries main demographic is geared towards the male population, most
recently, women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

character, Lara Croft, as an intelligent archaeologist who courageously survives on this island
(Parkin). Even the cover art of this game showcases Lara as a real woman rather than a sexualized

These Oakley Women s Unstoppable sunglasses are considered one of the best sunglasses for
UV eye protection. Ultraviolet rays from the sun damages your cornea, lens of the eye, and the

Oakley Unstoppables have the kind of lenses you need. They also have variations that don t have
polarization, so make sure you re aware of that before ordering.
You can mix and match frame and lens colors to give you exactly the style you want for driving,
heading to the beach, or walking around near the water. They re lightweight lenses and frames, so
you can wear them all day while the nose pads will stop the glasses from slipping during any
activity.

While Oakley is based in California, it s a subsidiary of Luxottica. They re an Italian company that
produces luxury sports equipment as well as other accessories like watches, shoes, and backpacks.
The company was created by James Jannard out of his garage. The year was 1975.
In that year, they were revolutionary because of the grips, which were made of a trademarked
material he called Unobtainium. It s still used in the nose piece of the sunglasses, too. Oakleys
have long since been associated with the sports industry as the go to glasses.
Frame and Lens Colors Available
The frames come in a few different colors; black, crystal raspberry, matte brown tortoise, metallic
black, polished black, raspberry spritzer, and tortoise. This gives you enough variety to have a pair

The Debate Of Stem Cell Technology Essay
For my casebook, I decided to focus on the topic of stem cell technology. Stem cells are
nonspecialized cells that have the ability to divide for an indefinite length of time and develop
into a variety of cell types. This process primarily occurs early in a person s life while they are
still growing. Stem cells are also used regularly in some organs to repair damaged or worn out
tissue. Stem cells have been found to have many more clinical uses in recent years, though.
Stem cells have been the subject of much research in the scientific community. They have been
looked at as potential cures for everything from hair loss to paralysis. While many of these
claims are promising looks at what the future may hold, media has a tendency to exaggerate the
current status of what is capable with stem cells. This leaves many people guessing about what
is true, and what is just science fiction. The purpose of this casebook is to look at the gray area
of stem cells and help differentiate fact from fiction. I will do this by looking at three major
media outlets that talk about stem cells, and compare what I find with three definitive sources that
have the true facts about stem cells. From my results, we will be able to see how much major
media stretches the truth about stem cells. I used three popular news sources for my casebook. I
used an article from Men s Journal titled Does Stem CellTherapy Actually Work? . This article

Nursing Home Suicide
Many nursing home residents, including the elderly residents at Hoosier Christian Village, struggle
daily with symptoms of situational depression, anxiety, and various mental illnesses brought on by
inactivity, decline in physical and mental competence, and the unavoidable confrontation with
death. In addition, many residents are admitted to the residence because of previous mental
illnesses; therefore, future development or recurrence of these diseases is nearly inevitable.
Studies at several universities worldwide have concluded that the assertion of youth in local
assisted living residences has aided tremendously in battling these mental illnesses. They have also
conducted research that infers that youth involvement with the elderly in their communities can
combat the persistence and development of depression. Therefore, baking cookies and donating
them to the Hoosier Christian Village can be exceedingly beneficial to the residents. These
cookies would allow the idea of bringing the outside world in and help defeat feelings of

A Career in Social Work
A Career in Social Work
I chose to do research on a career as a social worker because, based on my Holland and MBTI
code, this career best combines the conventional, social, and realistic aspects of my personality. I
also feel that this career choice corresponds with my personal values, as it will allow me to channel
my communication and problem solving skills towards helping disadvantaged individuals and
families.
Entering the social work field requires considerable preparation. In California, as in most states, a
bachelor s degree in social work (BSW), as well as the completion of additional coursework
hours in areas such as child abuse assessment and alcohol/chemical dependency, is the minimum
requirement to become a Licensed Bachelor s Social Worker (LBSW). An LBSW must work
under the supervision of a Licensed Master Social Worker or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker,
licenses which both require a master s degree in social work (MSW). Most California State
University campuses in the southern California area offer accredited degrees in social work. In
particular, the University of Southern California offers a top ranked online MSW program. Full
time social workers must also be prepared to work 40 hours per week, occasionally working
evenings and weekends to meet deadlines, meet with clients, or handle emergencies. In addition to
fulfilling all these preparation requirements, successful social workers must be deeply

Disadvantages Of Pilgrimages
Many pilgrimages test and enhance the faith of each believer, embarking on a once in a lifetime
journey enriched with spiritual fulfillment. Pilgrims commonly seek a specific place that is
associated with a divinity or other holy personage. One of many pilgrimages is the Hajj, located in
Saudi Arabia. It provides Muslims all around the world a sense of spiritual and psychological
nourishment. While it encourages social and cultural mixing, as well as interactions between them,
each Muslim undertakes the pilgrimage with a religious motive and faith, often enabling them to
embrace cultural diversity while seeking a spiritual cleansing of their souls and a fresh start. After
the journey of the pilgrimage, the believers bring back many religious and emotional experience
that would affect them throughout their daily life.
The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam which occurs in the last month on the Islamic Calendar.
The Hajj is a five to six day journey that will challenge Muslims to take part in many celebrations,
sacrificial and spiritual practices, intended to bring about greater humility and unity among the
Muslim community. Giving them a chance to wipe clean their sins and start fresh (Batrawy, 2016).
The pilgrimage is in Mecca as the city is a significant place as the prophet Muhammad was born
there. The journey to Mecca to engage in the Hajj must be performed by every Muslim who is

Taking a Closer Lookt at Our Auditory System Essays
Hello, again. In this section we are going to have a closer look on our auditory system, so as to
understand its basic function. Why should we learn about that? Because as listeners, we owe to
know some basic things about this magnificent human mechanism. Our auditory system is one of
our gates to the outer world. It helps us pick up sound stimuli from our environment, transduce
these stimuli into neural impulses and finally, carry these impulses to specific locations in the
brain. In fact, its basic function, if we could summarize that, is the transduction of mechanical
energy (that is, those sound vibrations in the air) into electrical energy (electrical pulses in the
brain).

This pinna is more or less oval shaped, flexible and can vary in size. Due to the fact that there are
only few muscles in the area of the external ear, humans need to turn their heads towards the
sound source location, in order to achieve a more accurate detection of the position of this sound
source. As far as the middle ear is concerned, its purpose is to transform the energy of a sound
wave into internal vibrations, which take place in the bone structure of the middle ear and
ultimately transform these vibrations into a compressional wave, which will be received by the
inner ear. The middle ear could be described as an air filled cavity that consists of the eardrum and
3 tiny interconnected bones (in fact, they re the smallest bones of our body), the well known the
hammer, anvil, and stirrup, which serve to amplify the vibrations. What actually happens there, is
that the compression of the sound wave forces the eardrum inward, while a rarefaction forces the
eardrum outward, thus vibrating the eardrum at the same frequency of the sound wave. After the
eardrum s vibrations are passed through the middle ear bones, they go on to the cochlea. Basically,
the movements of the eardrum are connected to the hammer and as a result, those movements set
the hammer, anvil and stirrup in motion, at the same frequency of the sound wave, as we said

One thing that the company may face is fraud and in order to reduce fraud, management has to
create and build policies to address those specific risks. Strengths and Recommendations Since
LJB Company is relatively small, they have an advantage over their competitors who are large
companies. Being a small company due to its size of employees, one of the things they are doing
right is being able to set expectations and implement those within the organization. As a smaller
company, the accountant s decision to switch to pre numbered invoices and the purchase of an
indelible ink machine was a good idea and investment. The pre numbered invoices will prevent
transactions from being recorded multiple times. With the internal control system this will require
that the employees forward their source documents for the accounting entries. The indelible ink
machine will help organize all of the accounting duties. We recommended that LJB Company
purchase an indelible ink machine to print all employees and cut checks. With the indelible ink
machine this will make it difficult for unauthorized users to endorse checks and be approved. This
will cut down on fraud and theft within the company. Violations LJB Company is very susceptible
to fraud due the weaknesses and threats presented in the day to day operations. The type of threats
include: no human resource control, lack of cash control, and no duties defined for each individual.

Why Is Steve Jobs The Biggest Innovator

Steve Jobs, the Second Biggest Innovator in the World
Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower (Jobs). I can take a camera and make a
replica of it, but change one thing in it, and I would be considered an inventor. Steve Jobs always
used other products from varieties of different companies to gather up ideas and combine them
into what we now call his invention . The only work Steve Jobs has done was to think of what
device he wants to enhance, something he thought would attract more people to the product.
Innovation has nothing to do with how many R D dollars you have. When Apple came up with
the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R D. It s not about money. It s about the
people you have, how you re led, and how much you get it (Jobs). An inventor, is a person that
creates ideas and products. An innovator is a person that introduces the ideas and products. If
someone created something that can be used by others to make things of their own, they should
be thought of as inventors. Steven Paul Steve Jobs worked for one of the most famous companies

The Movie The Dark Knight Essay
The movie The Dark Knight (2008) is the genre of superhero films. Superhero films are movies
that deal with vigilantes saving the city from criminals. Criminals have become more evil, heroes
have become more violent and victims have become more innocent. Movies have become more
graphic and the crimes have become more unjustifiable. Crime is a key component of superhero
hero films and is often used to show injustice towards the state. To control crime society has to try
and deter crime by adding punishment that outweigh the rewards. Some people are biologically
more crime oriented than others and it constitutes natural born criminals. The Jokeris seen as the
main criminal in the movie challenging the notion of justice. Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman,
is seen as the vigilante. The Joker becomes personal with Batman forcing him to come face to
face with everything he believes and uses technology to try and stop him. Hervey Dent is
considered a symbol of hope because he takes the law and uses against criminals. The Criminal
Justice System is then corrupted by the Joker, which leads to the corruption of two face. Harvey
Dent is angry about Batman letting his one true love (Racheal Dawes) die and seeks revenge upon
him with the help of the Joker s corruption and becomes two face. This demonstrates that even the
most innocent people can be corrupted. The Joker challenges the notion of law and justice by
attempting to destroy Gotham City and all the people in it. The law deals

My Consumption Of Soda By Coca Cola
I grew up in a home where nothing artificial was allowed, only organic and natural. If it came from
a garden or a field it usually made it to our table. We drank hot tea every day, there was never any
popcorn, pizza, or soda. I still remember the first time I had a slice of pizza and an ice cold glass of
Coca Cola in 1990. It was like a whole new world had opened up before me. I had fallen in love
with soda. I loved the sugary sweet stuff, with its carbonation dancing down your throat sip by sip.
It was heavenly. From that day on, no more hot tea, only soda all the way the colder the better. As
the years past my fondness of soda grew into an obsession. Somewhere in a twenty year span it
became normal for me to go to Walmart and buy 14 20 two liters of Coca Cola ever week and yes I
did drink that much soda every week.
My consumption of soda was so extreme that my friends and family regularly made fun of me
for having Coca Cola in my veins instead of blood and teasing me often by asking me if I
wanted water to thin it out some. It all came to ahead in the summer of 2010. I had just finished
mowing the grass and I was worn out and exhausted. I drank my soda with a lot of ice and
started to feel even worse. That is how my family found me on the couch, exhausted and white as

daughters, Jessica and Eileen, insisted I drink the glass of water they had handed to me. My best

Accounting, Accountability And Governance Practices Of...
This thesis sets out to examine the accounting, accountability and governance practices of the
Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (hereafter, NCDMB) and the International
Oil and Gas Companies (hereafter, IOCs) in the implementation of, and compliance with, local
content sustainability rules in petroleumcontracts in Nigeria. The aim is to apply an accountability
based conceptual framework of accounting to address three major accountability issues within the
context of the broader natural resource governance practices. Firstly, to critically establish, within
the context of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, the relationship between local content and the three
tenets of sustainability(social, economic and environmental), the issue that has received relatively
little attention from scholars. Secondly, to evaluate the extent of the NCDMB s accountability by
assessing its ability to enforce compliance with the local content sustainability rules as provided by
the law. Finally, to investigate the extent of accountability of the IOCs operating in Nigeria by their
ability to comply with and align between the mandatory and the voluntary local content reporting
practices in their attempt to support sustainability through oil and gas contracts.
Historically, the Nigerian oil and gas sector like that of many other developing countries, has been
dominated by the powerful IOCs resulting into a massive outflow of resources for the payment of

enforceable unless its subject matter comes within the statute of frauds, an English Law adopted in
the United States, that requires certain contracts to be in writing. For example, a contract to sell
real property, to be enforceable, must be in writing to comply with the statute. An oral contract to
sell Personal Property for an amount less than that set in the statute does not fall within its limits
and, therefore, is enforceable without being reduced to a writing. The Uniform Commercial Code

The Successful Failure Of NASA
A few decades ago, going to the space seemed impossible to man but after many technological
advances, man found a way to get to the space. NASA, NASA primary has improved its space
mission shuttles and on each one, they were getting better and gaining confidence about sending
shuttles to outer space until the thirteenth mission to space, also known as the Successful Failure,
made them realize that going to space is a risk, even with the most advanced technology.
Before NASA started sending astronauts to space, they first sent a chimpanzee because of all the

The Suffrage Of The Nineteenth Amendment
In the 1900 s women did not have the same rights as men. They weren t allowed to do certain
things and are not considered equal. Once women started to protest this, the whole nation got
involved and there were some disagreements. The amendment was first proposed in 1878 to
Congress but not seriously considered. In the early 1900 s a Representative proposed the Susan B.
Anthony Amendment to allow women the right to vote. After the amendment passed in the House
of Representatives, the Senate also passed the amendment. The vote then went to the states and it
was one shy state away from the two thirds requirement and it was all up to Tennessee to break the
vote. The decision was all up to Republican Harry T. Burn who was against the amendment but his
mom was the one to change his mind. With a change in Tennessee s vote the amendment officially
passed the nineteenth amendment on June 4, 1919. The whole question is who supported and who
opposed the passing of the nineteenth amendment? The people who obviously supported the
nineteenth amendment were the women across the nation. Some more than others but in some
way all women wanted to be treated equal. There were even some men who supported the
amendment like Frederick Douglass who was a former African American slave. Even though it
seems like a lot of people want this amendment to pass and agree to equal rights, there were people
who did oppose to the passing of the amendment. Being mostly men, an even bigger group
disagreed with

The Six Essential Nutrients In Mathews Life
Nutrients are essential to our bodies thru our entire lives at different levels. The six essential
nutrients include Protein, Water, Fat, Vitamins, Carbohydrates, and Minerals. These nutrients are
important for our bodies to function. I will be writing about 3 different stages of Mathews life
and the essential nutrients he needs at that stage of his life. Mathew like many 5 year old boys is
a picky eater. Parents can encourage their children to try new foods, but they should not pressure
eating. When children are picky eaters there are some nutrients that are important for the growth
and development that they are consuming less of or none at all. For example, Iron is needed for
growth. The RDA for Iron in Toddlers is 7mg daily and in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He is very active. He is part of a baseball team which has practice twice weekly and he also

to fuel his body. Carbohydrates are the main source of fuel to the human body. Carbs can also
fuel our central nervous system and it could also be stored as glycogen which could be used at a
later time when needed during a physical activity (Diaz, 2015). A good choice for Mathew to
pick would be quinoa which is a good source of good carbs and protein. Fats are also a good
source of fuel to the human body and it also provides essential fatty acids to your body. Healthy
fats such as Omega 3 fats and Unsaturated fats are very important for the transmission of
information to and from brain and spinal cord cells (Grosvenor Smolin, 2015). After one of
Mathew s games or even one of his workout routines at the gym what is going to rebuild and
repair his muscles is Protein. Protein is also just as important before the game or workout. Protein
is also very important for the production of enzymes and hormones. Mathew can eat fresh salmon

Herman Hesse s Well-Known Bildungsroman
In Herman Hesse s well known Bildungsroman, Demian, the novel contains connections to both
the Bible and Nietzsche , The Gay Science. These influences are seen in the chapter, Two Worlds
and its similarity to Genesis; the mark of Cain and its connection to Thus Spoke Zarathustra,
and the preparation for World War 2 to Nietzsche s concept of preparatory human beings. Hesse s
influence from the Bible is seen in chapter one, Two Worlds through the similarity between
Sinclair s childhood life and the story of the Fall in Genesis. Sinclair believes the world is divided
into two, the world of light and the world of darkness. The world of light being love and strict
rules, education and example (Hesse 3) Whereas, the world of dark is comprised... Show more

Demian has major similarities to Nietzsche s, Thus Spoke Zarathustra which is seen through
Hesse s mention of the mark of Cain. In chapter two, Cain , Sinclair and Demian are taught the
story of Cain and Abel in school. As expected, the boys learn the story as it is told in the bible,
Cain receives a mark on his forehead to indicate he is evil. However, Demian explains to Sinclair
that he interpreted (the story) in a completely different way. (Hesse 22) Demian believes that the
mark on Cain s forehead is not an indication of evil rather, it is a mark of power that threatened
and scared everyone. When Sinclair and Demian part different ways after their conversation,
Sinclair questions, he not himself a kind of Cain? (...) Why does he have such a power in his
eyes, and why does he speak so scornfully about the others , the fearful ones, who, after all are
actually pious and pleasing to G d? (Hesse 25) Hesse s inclusion of this quote is to reveal that
Sinclair sees Demian as Cain, due to his sense of power and opposition from the others. Later,
the reader learns that Sinclair also has the mark of Cain. Hesse demonstrates this when Sinclair
and Demian are reunited as teenagers and Demian says, you ve changed. But you have the sign
(...) we used to call it the mark of Cain. (Hesse 109) Demian defines those with the mark as,
considered strange, even crazy and dangerous, by the rest of the world. We were awakened, or at
least awakening; our efforts were directed toward ever more complete awareness, while others
always longed to merge their opinions, ideals, and duties, their lives and their happiness, more and
more closely with those of the herd. (Hesse 117) this quote indicates that having the mark of Cain
implies that one separates oneself from mass thinking, the herd. A further meaning for the mark of
Cain is shown when Demian says, felt that we embodied

Critical Film Review Of Titanic
Critical Film Review Introduction Titanic is an action packed romance and epic piece directed
and written by James Cameron against the unfortunate maiden voyage of RMS Titanic. Without a
doubt, Titanic is considered to be the joy and pride of White Star link and the biggest moving
object at the time that was built. It was most luxurious linear of that era, the ship of dreams that
ultimately carried around 1500 people to the death in North Atlantic s ice cold water in the year

There were various subconscious and social messaged within the film. One major focus was the
concept of class in 20th century. Thus, class is often signified with in extremely clear approach,
from both narrative of Titanic and narrative of characters itself. Thus, the concept and content of
the film is constructed over the character of Rose and Jack. Through positioning the social rules,
Cameron successfully conveys the differences between the social classes and showed concern
over the interaction of the classes. There various examples that infers the class distinction from
starting till the end of the film (Hall, 1986). Class differences can be seen throughout the film, it
was disturbing to see how upper class members were boarding to the lifeboats at the time when
the ship sank whereas the lower class was left to die. Although one cannot claim that Titanic
served any sort of ideology, however it can may refer to the 1912 ideology from the film. As the
unsinkable ship Titanic is the summation of hegemony and capitalism. Cameron also develops a
reference for the defeat and collapse of capitalism against nature when the ship was sinking and
orchestra is still playing the music sinking in the ocean. While reviewing the scene, all valuable

The Inequality Of Women s Leadership
The Inequality of Women in Leadership Throughout history, the United States have overcome a
number of inequalities and discovered our many freedoms. In the modern age we now live, every
individual should have equal rights. Theoretically we do, but technically there are still areas of
inequality, specifically in business management. Women are facing difficulties in advancing to
leadershippositions within most fields, especially in Fortune 500companies. Female leaders
continually face difficulties both when inquiring decision making positions as well as while in
leadership roles. By combining research I ve come across in leadership, genderroles, stereotyping
and management statistics, this paper will consider the barriers, as well as... Show more content on

Chemers perceived that there are three theoretical explanations for the main differences between
male and female leadership. One difference, the most obvious, is biological differences, which is
based around hormones and temperament. The second difference is culturally diversities. This tells
that socialized roles are varied per culture. The final difference is structurally determined. The
different sexs have very diverse organizational structures (Eagly, Makhijani, Klonsky, 1992;
Chemers, 2000). Placing practical differences aside, the essential problem with women leadership
roles is actually seen in the attitudes of those around them. The attitudes people have towards
women when they are the ones making decisions are a perception with no objectivity, formally
known as a stereotype.
Stereotyping is one of the main obstacles women endure in their leadership positions. Gender
Role Theory is the development of expectations people create of their own and others behavior
based on the beliefs about what is appropriate for both male and females. For example, if a female
were to pull out a man s chair at a restaurant before seating herself or open his car door before
getting in the car, that would be found as odd behavior for a women.

My Long Term Goal Is My Life
I would love to get back into running. It used to be a passion of mine, a way to relieve stress,
kept me in shape, and maintained my weight. Since I have stopped running there s no motivation
for physical activity, I m out of shape, and gained weight. My long term goal is to get back into
running everyday. It will put me back into a healthy lifestyle and will make me feel better over all.
If I do not return to running it will affect my physical health by making me gain more weight, and
continue to be out shape. This can make me become lazy. Socially it has affected me because I
pushed the friends I had away that I used to run with. I was ashamed to tell them that I was
getting lazy. Running used to help me clear my mind and allowed me to focus on priorities, but
now that I have stopped, I no longer can fully clear my mind. This is affecting my ability to
perform my best in school. Without running everyday, spiritually I feel like I ve just been going
through the motions of life, but not really living up to my potential. Since I pushed away all my
friend who supported my running, I do not have an environment that is supportive of physical
activity. All of these factors are making me live an unhealthy lifestyle.
If I do return to running I will lose the weight I gained, and be in shape. I would be surrounded with
people who support me living a healthy lifestyle. I would be a lot less stressed and would be
thinking a lot clearer. I will actually be able to remember

Descartes Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God
Section 6
Matthew Shields

Descartes Ontological Argument for the Existence of God
The Ontological Argument for the existence of God is an a priori argument that aims to
demonstrate that God s real world existence follows necessarily from the concept of God. In
Meditation V of Discourse on Methods and Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes presents his
version of the Ontological Argument for the existence of God. In this essay, I will argue that this
argument fails because necessary existence for a concept does not entail its real world existence.
Descartes argument for the existence of God relies on two key assertions:
1. His understanding of God as an infinite, independent being.
2. His claim that existence is a perfection.
In Meditation III, Descartes clarifies his understanding of God to be a substance that is infinite,
eternal, immutable, independent, supremely intelligent, supremely powerful, and which created
both myself and everything else (if anything else there be) that exists. It is important to note that in
speaking of God as infinite, Descartes seems to mean that God is infinitely perfect. He asserts God,
I take to be actually infinite, so that nothing can be added to his perfection. (p. 32) Descartes
understands God as a uniquely infinite and independent entity that exists by its own nature. By
contrast, all other entities are finite and contingent beings that must depend on another entity for
their existence. This

Analysis Of Mirrors By Lucy Grealy
What really determines something to be beautiful. In Lucy Grealy s narrative, Mirrors , she
describes her journey of finding her own idea of beauty. As a child she had cancer in her face so
she had surgery to remove but it caused her face to be deformed. Consequently, she was bullied
because of the way she looked, which caused her self esteem to lower immensely. As a result,
she had undergone many surgeries and even went as far as to travel to another country to try and
fix her face. Therefore, as she gets older she not only alters herself physically but mentally. She
finally realizes that how people see us should not influence how we view ourselves not only
physically but mentally as well. So she decides to never lookat a mirror because she feels she does
not have to to know what she looks like anymore. She finally accepted the way she looks and
started focussing on her personal well being and recognizes that s what is actually important.
Society has a critical impact on the way we see ourselves because of the way social media shows
us that we should look a certain way, people telling us we should look a certain way, your negative
thoughts about how you look, and how society determines your value based on looks.
Social media has a big influence on this generation when it comes to body image. Many women,
or models, will post pictures of themselves showing off their body with thousands of likes and
many comments saying body goals or I wish I looked like that. This

Examples Of Greed In The Pardoner s Tale
There are seven destructive sins that, once dedicated, lessen the possibility of unceasing life and
bliss in paradise. They are alluded to as dangerous in light of the fact that every transgression is
firmly connected to another, prompting other more prominent sins. The seven savage sins are
pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, and greed. Geoffrey Chaucer s gem, The Canterbury Tales, gave
a superb anecdote about the destructive sins. Concentrating essentially on the wrongdoings of pride,
and voracity, the characters found in The Canterbury Tales, especially The Pardoner s Tale, were so
overpowered by their natural cravings and aspirations that they neglected to see the impacts of their
corrupt activities, hence denying themselves of salvation.
Gluttony is characterized as the over liberality of nourishment and beverage. The pardoner said that
greedy was the wrongdoing that defiled the world. The principal type of gluttony is intoxication.

transgressions that he had done. I release my venom under the shade of sacredness, to appear to

his indecency. His improper admission demonstrated that he was liable of stupidity: I lecture, as
you have recently listened, and tell a hundred other falsehoods...my aim is to win cash, not in any

  • 2. Sensors Allocation Fault Introduction Background A wireless sensor network (WSN) consists of distributed sensors to monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or detect dimensions, to pass their data through the network to a base station for processing. Advantages of WSN over a wired system considered in elimination of wiring cost, sensors can be installed in harsh environments. Each sensor node is a combination of Radio transceiver with an internal antenna or connection to an external antenna micro controller, electronic circuit for interfacing with the sensors, energy source, usually a battery or an embedded form of energy harvesting. Drawback of using sensors is having limited power to consume, a memory that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this solution is not optimal neither it is minimal. To provide a better solution a collaboration of different parameter sensors is used to both minimize and optimize sensor usage. Figure 2 describes a 3 axis graph of the boxes, the x axis is dimension, the y axis is the color and the z axis is the weight. Figure 2a, 2b and 2c maps objects by the x y, y z and x z respectively. There 11 different possible sensor positions using the 3 parameters shown in a light grey dashed line on figure 2 graphs. Using the code described in section 3, the solution set resulted in using a total of 3 sensors (d3, w1, c2) shown on a solid line in figure 2 graphs. This subset of sensors happens to be both the optimal and minimal solution. Proposed solution: The following section describes the code developed to find an optimal sensor solution. The first step is to consider the cost of each sensor used. The minimal sensor subset is the set with the lowest cost. The equation [1] describes the cost of the sensor, which simply is the summation of each of the used sensors. As described previously, most sensors used in this technique are simple and there is no significant difference in their cost. Thereby since sensors of different parameter are of the same cost, it is more effective to consider the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The efficiency of the technology is an asset to crime detectives apprehending criminals, or the government tracking suspected terrorists for the safety of the country. It can also be used on a corporate level to allow a business to understand their ideal customer, or to increase the intractability of their website. While these abilities are positives to the people using them, the data collection may be harming more than it is helping. Considering the benefits of facial recognition, it is important for people to see what they are giving up for a more efficient experience. Over the course of this past year, body cameras are becoming increasingly popular with police officers in the United States. This is in response to the public s outrage with unlawful police force. Recently, companies that manufacture such bodycams announced plans to include facial recognition software. The data collected from the cameras would be in the hands of the police for a minimum of 18 months, depending on the incident recorded (Chapman). While this could initially be seen as a positive method to identifying and arresting an active suspect, there is a question of privacy of control when it comes to this matter. This is an invasion of privacy for the citizens caught on camera that are not involved in an incident nor have a criminal record. These cameras are often worn during protests, both peaceful and not, capturing everyday citizens speaking their thoughts and ideas. A concern that exists is if the police will use the data collected from the cameras to unlawfully monitor participants (Chapman). This would inevitably discourage participation in these gatherings and take control from peaceful citizens and give too much control to police officers. There is also no guarantee that the footage will not be used for other purposes that the public is not yet aware of. There is no U.S. federal law at the moment that directly protects the privacy of American citizens from the potential surveillance using facial recognition, (Chapman). The fact that there is no balancing system for the rights of United States citizens may lead law enforcement to take advantage of their freedom and use the technology inappropriately and excessively. The development of this technology is growing so quickly that legislature has not accounted for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Organizational Systems Theory And The Macro System Organisational Systems Theory The macro system is the most prominent and significant theory. The macro system consists of all the variables in any society. Bronfenbrenner (1979) described the macro system as, The macro system refers to the consistency observed within a given culture or subculture in the form and content of its constituent micro , meso , and exosystems, as well as any belief systems or ideology underlying such consistencies (p. 258). The macro system consists of the following six super systems, globalisation, government, economy, family, religion and media. These six super systems all influence the daily life of individuals and contribute to the incidence of drug use in Australia. The government needs to try to control the incidence of drug use in society. There needs to be more legislation against the use of drugs and harsher penalties for those caught using drugs. Globalisation has caused changes in the economy, with changes in trade, money and the mixing of cultures. With the changes in the economy it has made it harder for some people to survive, as almost everything has had a dramatic increase in price. This has caused people to turn to dealing drugs to make money and also turn to using drugs to feel less stress and worry. Ludwig von Bertalanffy, an Austrian biologist, was the founder of general systems theory. According to Robbins, Bergman, Stagg Coulter (2008) a system is defined as, a set of interrelated and interdependent parts arranged in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Long Beach Erosion Throughout history, the coastline of Sandy Bay has been subject to erosion. The areas focussed on in this study are Nutgrove and Long Beach. Erosion was first documented in this area in 1813. Sea level rise and the increase in the frequency and severity of weather events is currently having an impact on the land cover of both Nutgrove and Long Beach and this is erosion is likely to increase as time passes and climate change progresses. In an attempt to combat erosion and interest more people in visiting this area an ongoing project has been implemented along Long Beach and Nutgrove Beach. The project aims to reduce the rate of erosion and make the area a desirable place for people to visit for many years to come. One of the most recent additions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along Nutgrove Beach vegetation management has been implemented to prevent and reduce future erosion. This has been done by planting plants in the dunes in the hope of the plants trapping the sand and preventing further erosion. As well as vegetation management to protect the dunes, a fence has also been assembled in front of the dunes to prevent people from accessing the dunes and causing further erosion to the dunes and damaging the vegetation. This has been successful and has significantly reduced the extent of the erosion of the sand dunes at Nutgrove Beach. Around the foreshore of both Long Beach and Nutgrove Beach, rocks have been added to the foreshore to prevent further erosion of the beach. This has been successful in reducing the amount of sand that is drawn out to sea. The waves flowing up onto the beach have caused sand to wash up into the areas where there are stairs coming down from the seawall. This clearly highlights the force of the waves and the movement of the sand that is occurring as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Blade Faults in Gas Turbines Gas turbines are often exposed to ingestion of particles suspended in the air such as dust, ash, salt, ice, water droplets, and sand particles during operation. These particles are the most important factor that cause blade fault in all types of gas turbines. The most common types of blade fault are fouling, erosion, tip clearance increase, water ingestion, and foreign object damage (FOD) [1]. Most of mentioned cases cause roughness over the blade surfaces that deteriorate the gas turbine performance. Different numerical methods were used to solve the gas turbine cascade flow field in recent years. In most of these studies, the quasi three dimensional Navier Stokes analysis is used. On the other hand, in some studies the flow fields were experimentally tested. Sheets of sandpaper with different equivalent sand grain roughness heights have been used by researchers to produce roughness on surface of gas turbine blades placed in a wind tunnel and applying flow conditions of their case. 1.1 Experimental work Yun et al. [2] used sheets of sandpapers with equivalent sand grain roughness heights of 106 and 400 micrometers. The performance tests have been conducted in a low speed, single stage, axial flow turbine having roughened blades. They showed that for blades with roughnesses of the fully rough regime (400 ), the normalized efficiency decreases by 11 percent for stator vanes and 8 percent for rotor blades. For blades having a roughness in the transitionally rough regime (106 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Legend Of King Arthur And Le Morte DArthur Has a book or movie given enjoyment through a hard time? Thomas Malory and Terry Gilliam have opposing writing styles as a result of the context they wrote their texts in. Thomas Malory, author of Le Morte d Arthur, writes his book as a compilation of tales and Terry Gilliam writes his version as a script for a movie. While both Gilliam and Malory use an episodic narrative, Gilliam writes his movie as a parody to mock old England and other versions of the Legend of King Arthur, and Malory uses his book as a story that includes immense details about a legend. While Le Morte d Arthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grailboth share a common plot, the works differ on intended purpose and tone. The audiences each author tries to appease changes each author s writing style; Thomas Malory is trying to appease a fifteenth century audience who is traumatized by numerous uprisings and despair due to a history of atrocious kings, while Terry Gilliamis trying to entertain a more modern audience that wants a humorous and satirical movie. The intended purpose of each of the authors, differ in that each are delivering their works to a situationally different audience. In the fifteenth century, when Le Morte d Arthur was written, people were just beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel after a history of tyrannical kings. Young people have created a series of issues that give good reasons to increase the driver s license age. Educating people about the consequences to drunk driving should be discussed so that it may change the minds of younger people throughout the country. The majority of teenagers in car crashes are caused because of teenage drunk driving. The Ideology Of Slavery By Drew Gilpin Faust In The Ideology of Slavery by Drew Gilpin Faust, in Chapter 4 which is James Henry Hammond that writes a letter to an English Abolitionist, in a section he describes how he believes that Slavery is not a sin and is approved by Christ. It would seem that while God commanded Moses to free his people that were slaves to the Pharaoh, man is overlooking these in the Bible and that they are creating their own law and how their religion differs totally by what they do. I think, then, I may safely conclude, and I firmly believe, that American Slaveryis not only not a sin, but especially commanded by God through Moses, and approved by Christ through his apostles (Faust 175). When reasoning between what is right and wrong, Americans only found that what they were doing was not necessarily evil or wrong just that God permitted it, and also white Americans found slavery to be very significant for their own lives, due to the fact that their way of making money and making a living involved the owning of humans to make themselves the most profitable. While Slavery was against humanity and Abolitionists who believed in abolition of the practice of slavery, the South had their own reasons why slavery was needed in America and how basically they supported pro slavery. For instance, some arguments for slavery were, Sudden end to the slave economy would have had a profound and killing economic impact in the South where reliance on slave labor was the foundation of their economy. • 14. Ancient Greek Art Throughout the Ancient Greek history the numerous works of art were produced by the ancient Athenians that are still trending in twenty first century. Ancient Greeks demonstrated their valuable artistic skills in various fields. Every piece that was created by Ancient Greeks was more than art, their artistic skills were not only based on visual beautifulness, but on storytelling also. Ancient Greeks created their works of art as bearers of meaning by giving too much detail to the form and to the decorations to transmit messages. Type of art that I found quite distinctive was pottery. These clay forms were more than just plates, vases and water jugs. They were like canvases for painting on such everyday objects the artist told legends of warriors and gods. Greek pottery is a general term and could be divided into many works of art. However, the specific pottery that will be used as an example is Ancient Greek vase Lekythos. By analyzing different depicted images on these works of art and understanding the painter s messages we could get a little taste of Ancient Greek culture and the lifestyle of its people. Lekythos is a type of ancient Greek vessel that was used to store oil at bath, gymnasiums and for funerary offerings. Lekythos has a narrow body with a handle at the neck of the vessel. It seems as though the Athenians used a term to mean a small oil flask . The lekythos were used to store all types of oil, but especially an olive oil. Olive oil had a special ... Moreover, In the process of globalisation, people of different countries are becoming world audiences . The demands for media texts produced by these 6 media institutions are increasing. From the above, it is shown that Time Warneris a very powerful media institution which holds all kind of media. It possibly has great influences in the local US. Firstly, Ben Bagdikian stated that an impressive picture of diversity that there are different kinds of publishing imprints in the market is created. Consumers seem to have many selections. But actually, consumers have limited choices only because many of them are owned by Time Warner and they may consist of similar ideologies of the institution. Consumers are possibly imbued with the ideologies of Time Warner. Secondly, Bagdikian questioned the editorial independence because editors may be required to protect interests of the mother company. For example, a film produced by the studio of Time Warner is commented from the public in both positive and negative sides. the editor or even the executive of the magazines of the Time Warner would concern the interests of the Time Warner. Hence only the positive comments may be selected to inform but neglect the negative comments in order not to affect the box office. From the above case, the information informed to the public may not reflect the real case. Finally, concentrated media ownership can create strong political influences. Studying development is essentially about measuring how developed one country is compared to other countries or to the same country in the past. It is common knowledge that each country is aiming to be defined as developed. For us is to determine which measure is a better representative of how country is developed HDI or GNP per capita. Firstly, we will define what economic development is. Secondly we will compare Gross National Product and Gross Domestic Product. Thirdly, we will outline the problems with these indicators. Finally, we will try to find out whether HDI is a solution to the problems identified in GNP/GDP. What is economic development? On the other hand we have real GNP which measures the value of output in two or more different years by valuing the goods and services adjusted for inflation. Problems with GNP/GDP GNP is merely a gross measure of market activity which counts only money transactions and excludes goods and services (like taking care, cleaning, food preparation) that people provide each other free. In terms of developed economies like United Kingdom it would not be a huge difference, however in less developed countries much of its production takes place in the household economy like growing crops and farming animals for the purpose of the household not selling. Therefore it would not be included in countries GNP/GDP. The World Bank itself recognizes many of these problems. Although they reflect the average incomes in a country, GNP per capita and GDP per capita have numerous limitations when it comes to measuring people #8217;s actual well being. Taking as example countries which dig oil, where sheikhs earn millions and other live in poverty, the GNP per capita will count them equal dividing their income and not showing how equitably income is distributed. They do not account for pollution, environmental degradation, and resource depletion. As a result of the problems outlined above, much of GDP can be composed of: fixing ... • 21. Vita Nova Trinity Number 19 Analysis The Vita Nova has many symbolic themes throughout its structure such as the words vita and nova themselves. In both Italian and English, vita refers to life and nova in Italian refers to marvelous or strange, however in English, it refers to brightness (of light). Another symbol in the poem is the Trinity number nine as Dante refers to it every time he has an encounter with Beatrice. In this essay, because Vita Nova has 42 chapters, I will discuss how Beatrice represents (and/or mirrors) light throughout chapters 2 8 (with the definition of Trinity mentioned in chapter 29), through Dante s actual sight and uncontrollable dreams. Dante s muse represents light in chapter two because she can see all throughout his body as, during his first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Trinity number nine is also found in this chapter, as it was precisely the ninth hour of that day, three o clock in the afternoon (III, 2). Although this is the chapter when Beatrice finally gives Dante her salutation, the chapter s focus is in his dream. In the dream, Dante sees a powerful figure holding his muse in one hand and forcing her to eat a burning object in another (III, 6). As the human like figure came out from a cloud the color of fire (III, 3), it said, ego dominus tuus...vide cor tuum (III, 3; 5) to Dante, the pilgrim, which translates into, I m your lord...look into your heart. In other words, the figure represents light itself (as God) since he claimed to be the lord and because he came from a cloud the color of fire (III, 3). Beatrice represents light because the figure forcibly fed her the burning object, Dante s heart, thus, giving her the ability to see through Dante s most secret chamber as mentioned in chapter two. Although one can argue that since this human like figure uses force against Beatrice and comes in the form of a fiery cloud, this figure can be mistaken as a Demon; however, because both the figure and Beatrice ascent toward the heavens (III, 7), it supports my argument that the figure is actually light ... Stem cells are nonspecialized cells that have the ability to divide for an indefinite length of time and develop into a variety of cell types. This process primarily occurs early in a person s life while they are still growing. Stem cells are also used regularly in some organs to repair damaged or worn out tissue. Stem cells have been found to have many more clinical uses in recent years, though. Stem cells have been the subject of much research in the scientific community. They have been looked at as potential cures for everything from hair loss to paralysis. While many of these claims are promising looks at what the future may hold, media has a tendency to exaggerate the current status of what is capable with stem cells. This leaves many people guessing about what is true, and what is just science fiction. The purpose of this casebook is to look at the gray area of stem cells and help differentiate fact from fiction. I will do this by looking at three major media outlets that talk about stem cells, and compare what I find with three definitive sources that have the true facts about stem cells. Why should we learn about that? Because as listeners, we owe to know some basic things about this magnificent human mechanism. Our auditory system is one of our gates to the outer world. It helps us pick up sound stimuli from our environment, transduce these stimuli into neural impulses and finally, carry these impulses to specific locations in the brain. In fact, its basic function, if we could summarize that, is the transduction of mechanical energy (that is, those sound vibrations in the air) into electrical energy (electrical pulses in the brain). Now... When we say mechanical energy we mean a sound wave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This pinna is more or less oval shaped, flexible and can vary in size. Due to the fact that there are only few muscles in the area of the external ear, humans need to turn their heads towards the sound source location, in order to achieve a more accurate detection of the position of this sound source. As far as the middle ear is concerned, its purpose is to transform the energy of a sound wave into internal vibrations, which take place in the bone structure of the middle ear and ultimately transform these vibrations into a compressional wave, which will be received by the inner ear. The middle ear could be described as an air filled cavity that consists of the eardrum and 3 tiny interconnected bones (in fact, they re the smallest bones of our body), the well known the hammer, anvil, and stirrup, which serve to amplify the vibrations. What actually happens there, is that the compression of the sound wave forces the eardrum inward, while a rarefaction forces the eardrum outward, thus vibrating the eardrum at the same frequency of the sound wave. After the eardrum s vibrations are passed through the middle ear bones, they go on to the cochlea. Basically, the movements of the eardrum are connected to the hammer and as a result, those movements set the hammer, anvil and stirrup in motion, at the same frequency of the sound wave, as we said ... • 41. Accounting, Accountability And Governance Practices Of... This thesis sets out to examine the accounting, accountability and governance practices of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (hereafter, NCDMB) and the International Oil and Gas Companies (hereafter, IOCs) in the implementation of, and compliance with, local content sustainability rules in petroleumcontracts in Nigeria. The aim is to apply an accountability based conceptual framework of accounting to address three major accountability issues within the context of the broader natural resource governance practices. Firstly, to critically establish, within the context of the Nigerian oil and gas industry, the relationship between local content and the three tenets of sustainability(social, economic and environmental), the issue that has received relatively little attention from scholars. Secondly, to evaluate the extent of the NCDMB s accountability by assessing its ability to enforce compliance with the local content sustainability rules as provided by the law. Finally, to investigate the extent of accountability of the IOCs operating in Nigeria by their ability to comply with and align between the mandatory and the voluntary local content reporting practices in their attempt to support sustainability through oil and gas contracts. Historically, the Nigerian oil and gas sector like that of many other developing countries, has been dominated by the powerful IOCs resulting into a massive outflow of resources for the payment of training and procurement ... Oral Contract And Uniform Commercial Law Task1.2 Oral contract An agreement between parties that is either partly in writing and partly dependent on spoken words or that is entirely dependent on spoken words. An oral contract is enforceable unless its subject matter comes within the statute of frauds, an English Law adopted in the United States, that requires certain contracts to be in writing. For example, a contract to sell real property, to be enforceable, must be in writing to comply with the statute. An oral contract to sell Personal Property for an amount less than that set in the statute does not fall within its limits and, therefore, is enforceable without being reduced to a writing. • 44. The Suffrage Of The Nineteenth Amendment In the 1900 s women did not have the same rights as men. They weren t allowed to do certain things and are not considered equal. Once women started to protest this, the whole nation got involved and there were some disagreements. The amendment was first proposed in 1878 to Congress but not seriously considered. In the early 1900 s a Representative proposed the Susan B. Anthony Amendment to allow women the right to vote. After the amendment passed in the House of Representatives, the Senate also passed the amendment. The vote then went to the states and it was one shy state away from the two thirds requirement and it was all up to Tennessee to break the vote. The decision was all up to Republican Harry T. Burn who was against the amendment but his mom was the one to change his mind. With a change in Tennessee s vote the amendment officially passed the nineteenth amendment on June 4, 1919. The whole question is who supported and who opposed the passing of the nineteenth amendment? The people who obviously supported the nineteenth amendment were the women across the nation. Some more than others but in some way all women wanted to be treated equal. There were even some men who supported the amendment like Frederick Douglass who was a former African American slave. Even though it seems like a lot of people want this amendment to pass and agree to equal rights, there were people who did oppose to the passing of the amendment. These influences are seen in the chapter, Two Worlds and its similarity to Genesis; the mark of Cain and its connection to Thus Spoke Zarathustra, and the preparation for World War 2 to Nietzsche s concept of preparatory human beings. Hesse s influence from the Bible is seen in chapter one, Two Worlds through the similarity between Sinclair s childhood life and the story of the Fall in Genesis. Sinclair believes the world is divided into two, the world of light and the world of darkness. Demian has major similarities to Nietzsche s, Thus Spoke Zarathustra which is seen through Hesse s mention of the mark of Cain. In chapter two, Cain , Sinclair and Demian are taught the story of Cain and Abel in school. As expected, the boys learn the story as it is told in the bible, Cain receives a mark on his forehead to indicate he is evil. However, Demian explains to Sinclair that he interpreted (the story) in a completely different way. (Hesse 22) Demian believes that the mark on Cain s forehead is not an indication of evil rather, it is a mark of power that threatened and scared everyone. When Sinclair and Demian part different ways after their conversation, Sinclair questions, he not himself a kind of Cain? (...) Why does he have such a power in his eyes, and why does he speak so scornfully about the others , the fearful ones, who, after all are actually pious and pleasing to G d? (Hesse 25) Hesse s inclusion of this quote is to reveal that Sinclair sees Demian as Cain, due to his sense of power and opposition from the others. Later, the reader learns that Sinclair also has the mark of Cain. Hesse demonstrates this when Sinclair and Demian are reunited as teenagers and Demian says, you ve changed. But you have the sign (...) we used to call it the mark of Cain. (Hesse 109) Demian defines those with the mark as, considered strange, even crazy and dangerous, by the rest of the world. We were awakened, or at least awakening; our efforts were directed toward ever more complete awareness, while others always longed to merge their opinions, ideals, and duties, their lives and their happiness, more and more closely with those of the herd. (Hesse 117) this quote indicates that having the mark of Cain implies that one separates oneself from mass thinking, the herd. One difference, the most obvious, is biological differences, which is based around hormones and temperament. The second difference is culturally diversities. This tells that socialized roles are varied per culture. The final difference is structurally determined. The different sexs have very diverse organizational structures (Eagly, Makhijani, Klonsky, 1992; Chemers, 2000). Placing practical differences aside, the essential problem with women leadership roles is actually seen in the attitudes of those around them. The attitudes people have towards women when they are the ones making decisions are a perception with no objectivity, formally known as a stereotype. Stereotyping is one of the main obstacles women endure in their leadership positions. Gender Role Theory is the development of expectations people create of their own and others behavior based on the beliefs about what is appropriate for both male and females. • 52. Descartes Ontological Argument For The Existence Of God Section 6 Matthew Shields Word Count: 10/30/2014 Descartes Ontological Argument for the Existence of God The Ontological Argument for the existence of God is an a priori argument that aims to demonstrate that God s real world existence follows necessarily from the concept of God. In Meditation V of Discourse on Methods and Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes presents his version of the Ontological Argument for the existence of God. In this essay, I will argue that this argument fails because necessary existence for a concept does not entail its real world existence. Descartes argument for the existence of God relies on two key assertions: 1. His understanding of God as an infinite, independent being. 2. His claim that existence is a perfection. In Meditation III, Descartes clarifies his understanding of God to be a substance that is infinite, eternal, immutable, independent, supremely intelligent, supremely powerful, and which created both myself and everything else (if anything else there be) that exists. It is important to note that in speaking of God as infinite, Descartes seems to mean that God is infinitely perfect. He asserts God, I take to be actually infinite, so that nothing can be added to his perfection. (p. 32) Descartes understands God as a uniquely infinite and independent entity that exists by its own nature. By contrast, all other entities are finite and contingent beings that must depend on another entity for their existence. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
