European Sourcing in Asia: Key Benefits & Challenges (and How You Can Overcom...Cedric Brusselmans
Asia represents substantial sourcing opportunities for the Western professionals who know how to navigate the different business cultures and local customs.
Those opportunities go beyond sourcing in China. Indeed, a number of ASEAN countries and India are attractive for European medium-sized countries as the limited purchasing volumes of those SMEs can represent a barrier to access the Chinese sourcing market where the Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ) are sometimes too high for them.
In this short presentation, we walk the reader through the main benefits as well as the challenges to overcome for a European professional who want to start buying goods in Asia. The report also lists a number of solutions to mitigate the risks of European sourcing in Asia.

Indeed, the fear of the unknown, the cultural differences, the prospects (real or not) of competing internally for work, etc. are some of the main reasons why employees will consciously or unconsciously fight such change.

This document discusses how to demonstrate the worth of extension programs to stakeholders using evaluation data. It recommends measuring program outcomes accurately and conservatively, and describing results in terms of public value. Examples are given of how to calculate cost savings and other benefits to society from programs in areas like teen pregnancy prevention, dropout prevention, incarceration reduction, nutrition education, and childhood obesity prevention. The document encourages extension agents to continue finding ways to show the value of their work through evaluation.

The document outlines an outreach agenda for the DOE Student Ambassadors Program. It proposes that student ambassadors organize and conduct outreach activities on their campuses and in local communities to increase awareness and knowledge of DOE programs and careers. It provides examples of different outreach activities, including energy tours, a sustainable film series, a green expo, and a "Kill-a-Watt" student energy competition where dorms compete to reduce their energy consumption the most over several months. The document describes how student ambassadors could implement a Kill-a-Watt competition on their own campus through stakeholder engagement, educational seminars, energy monitoring, and incentives.
This document summarizes a program that used education rather than money as the "currency" to promote safe water practices. It found that providing more extensive education to beneficiaries, such as individual instruction lasting 45 minutes to 1 hour per person and requiring a diploma, led to higher sustained use of water purification technologies over 12 months compared to less education. The benefits of education are that it is a sound investment, never gets lost or wasted, and can produce health gains and jobs on its own. The conclusion is that more time spent educating beneficiaries directly correlates with sustained, long-term use of safe water practices.
The document summarizes a presentation given by Dean Louie on bridging the technology gap between traditional culinary education and modern needs. It discusses mapping learning objectives across programs, courses, and accreditation standards. It also covers using online assessment platforms and learning management systems to more effectively collect student performance data and improve instruction. Specific tools mentioned include LiveText, Laulima, and Zoho. The presentation shows how incorporating mobile devices, videos, and social media into classrooms can help engage today's learners.
The Acara Institute aims to create practical business solutions for social change. It connects students and organizations to develop businesses addressing issues like energy, health, environment and water. Its programs include the Acara Challenge, where student teams develop business plans, and the Summer Institute, where the best plans transition to proto-businesses. In 2010, 25 business plans were developed addressing clean water and energy in India. Several teams have continued developing their concepts, with some receiving funding or piloting their solutions in communities. Acara is building online communities and mentor networks to support its programs going forward.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Building on the Success of UH’s Student MovementThis program builds on the successful Sustainable Saunders initiative that strove to transform one building, Saunders Hall, into a model of sustainability for the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus, Hawaii and beyond. A passionate team of students delamped (removed) 50% of the lightbulbs in Saunders, greatly reducing headaches and eyestrains reported by occupants. Combined with timed air conditioning shut downs, they were able to reduce Saunder’s energy use by 24% in one year, saving $149,900 annually without spending a cent.
