The villus is a small finger-like projection present in the small intestine that aids in absorption. It is located in the infoldings of the small intestine within the abdominal cavity. The villus has a central lymph vessel called a lacteal surrounded by blood capillaries. These structures absorb nutrients like glucose, amino acids, glycerol and fatty acids from digested food and transport them to tissues through the bloodstream and lacteals.
