Ideas have been the driving force of humanity. From a simple circular wheel carved from rock back in the stone ages to the first airplanes and telephones, innovative ideas have sparked off revolutionary changes in society. Now in this competitive world, ideas have become more important to us than actions. Companies have begun asking designers to generate solutions that meet the needs and desires of the consumer.
As such, there was a need to streamline and increase the efficiency of producing and sharing ideas within teams. This gave birth to several idea generation techniques, which allowed everyone to play a part in the creative process, a role allotted strictly to designers and engineers for the last few years.
Idea generation techniques meant anyone could participate in creating new ideas. It allowed people to share and build up on existing solutions, to foresee future problems, and essentially, to think big in terms of design. It brought different specializations together to create a more diverse think-tank that can tackle problems from several perspectives.
This report is divided into three parts.
First, we shall look into several idea generation techniques, both popular ones and the uncommon ones, question their uses and value by providing examples of products developed using the specific techniques.
Second, we discuss whether idea generation methods and techniques are important in coming up with new ideas? Are they the driving factor in generating ideas?
Lastly, we conclude with our personal view on idea generation techniques, along with stating which methods, if any, would we prefer to use.
Towards the end we aim to achieve a better understand of the creative thinking process as a whole and how to effectively solve all issues, design or otherwise.

Various researches have shown that the majority of organizations, especially in the developing countries, have more of operational thinking rather than strategic thinking at the core of its management approach. Strategy has become an overused and at the same time, misused world in management world where we take it as obvious statement for something important we say about our management and business. In the face of the competition and change that exists in today’s market, organizations and their leadership must take strategic thinking approach in order to move the organization forward toward a new and more successful future. This session starts with an exercise of test of strategic thinking level of the participants and thus explains the meaning of strategy and being strategic. It exposes the difference between operational thinker, strategic planner and strategic thinker. The disciplines, approaches, competencies, critical areas and personal attributes of strategic thinker will be introduced with along with the explanation of topic ‘what limits our strategic thinking’. The session ends with the explanation of the methods of developing strategic thinking among the managers and leaders of the organization and how we can utilize such strategic thinking in our business in order to achieve higher goals of the organization.

For some, “strategic planning” is a series
of formulaic meetings that result in a report
that ends up on a shelf, rarely referred to or
used until the next cycle. For a select few,
however, it is a crucial part of the organiza-
tion’s sustainability—a road map used to guide
decisions.
Organizational strategic planning sets pri-
orities and goals for the future. An Employee
Benefit Strategic Plan employs the same
approach but is specific to the total compensa-
tion approach of the organization. Simply put,
in an environment of consistently rising health-
care costs and shifting healthcare regulations,
it is essential for organizations to create long-
term strategies with short-term objectives and
have a quick-response review process in place.
The fiscal realities of increasing healthcare
costs mixed with ACA unknowns can impact
your organization’s financial performance in
several ways. It may drag down shareholder
value, become a drain on company perfor-
mance, or negatively impact the culture and
human capital within a business. Yet, with all
these negative impacts, most organizations still
do only a superficial short-term employee ben-
efits plan for themselves.
What constitutes a strategy and how do
we actually build a plan? A good definition of
strategy is “… choosing to perform different
activities that will provide a sustainable compet-
itive advantage.” It is a way of thinking about
the world and approaching business. Strategic
planning is a process to produce innovative and
creative ideas that serve as the core framework
for the organization and design its future.
By adopting a strategic employee benefit
planning process, organizations can make deci-
sions regarding their benefits with significantly
less stress for all involved.
How to Create a Strategic Plan
Most strategic planning models share a com-
mon discover/analyze/design/build/review struc-
ture. This process appears to be simple, but it
does have complex and powerful components
within each category.
First, confirm that the organization is ready.
Building a comprehensive plan requires com-
mitment from the top down.
Next, make sure all stakeholders are repre-
sented. In addition to the C-Suite and human
resources (HR), the committee should include
representatives of all major employee groups
and functions. It is not uncommon for a stra-
tegic planning committee to have 12 or.
